Nys fails to clip in after run-up and can't contest the victory
Laurens Sweeck (Crelan-Corendon) prevailed in a fantastic last-lap battle to claim the victory in the Superprestige in Diegem
Niels Vandeputte extended his lead in the series with second place while European champion Thibau Nys (Baloise Trek) couldn't clip in after the run-up just before the sprint and faded to third
"Yesterday in Besançon I had a really bad day - today it's a big difference and I'm really happy to take the victory."
Nys and Sweeck traded blows in the fiercely contested final lap
each rider making multiple passes to try to hold the lead
but Sweeck won out heading into the run-up that came just before the paved finishing straight
"I knew you had to be at the front in the last lap," Sweeck said
"We were just sprinting the whole lap - it was a crazy last two minutes."
There was a fierce battle for the hole shot that left Lars van der Haar nearly missing the turn on the slick pavement
A crash behind him held up Thibau Nys as the charging bunch was led onto the dirt by Tibor del Grosso (Alpecin-Deceuninck)
US champion Andrew Strohmeyer had a terrific start and showed off his technical skills with a daring attack in the tricky off-camber section
An attack from Sweeck pulled away a group with Michael Vanthourenhout
but more riders latched on by the end of lap 3
Series leader Niels Vandeputte (Alpecin-Deceuninck) joined teammate Del Grosso and Sweeck in bridging across to Vanthourenhout - but then Vanthourenhout had to stop in the pits after having a problem with his shoes
Vandeputte moved to the front with Sweeck and Nys as the chasing group started to show cracks
Del Grosso and Orts lost ground on the climbing section but were still only a few seconds behind as Nys led across the line with four laps to go
Vanthourenhout made an impressive chase back into seventh place
latching onto Ryan Kamp (Alpecin-Deceuninck Devo) and getting to the front group before the end of the lap - making a lead group of six with Orts fighting to get on the wheels just behind
The sand pit divided the leaders into two groups
Nys began pushing the pace in earnest with three to go
Vandeputte made it across to the trio first
led by Eli Iserbyt (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal) bridged up
making it ten lead riders heading into the penultimate lap with the addition of Vandeputte
Orts and Jente Michels (Alpecin-Deceuninck)
Vanthourenhout looked as if he crashed off-camera and Sweeck opened up a sizeable gap on the rest of the group
Nys led the chase and was just about on the wheel of the Crelan-Corendon rider by the bell lap along with Vandeputte
It was Vandeputte's turn to attack at the start of the lap in defence of his lead in the series
He briefly opened up a gap on Sweeck on the paved climb where Nys sprinted across the gap to join them
Nys made a beautiful pass on Sweeck heading into the dirt climb - a move his father would be proud of - and then attacked out of the sand pit to try to hold a gap
Sweeck made a pass on the flyover but Nys got back around only to have Sweeck get in front again before the run-up
Nys couldn't clip in and not only lost the sprint to Sweeck
but also had to watch as Vandeputte came past to steal second.

Alvarado and Van der Heijden established a gap
leaving Bentveld and Cant chasing as a light rain began to fall
making the already cold weather more brutal
lost touch with Brand and Alvarado and was five seconds behind at the end of the third lap but she persisted and caught back up to the leaders for a moment on the next lap
An attack by Alvarado sent Van der Heijden out the back again and put Brand into difficulty with three laps to go

who moved into the series' overall lead ahead of the final round in Noordzeecross
Inge van der Heijden (Crelan-Corendon) finished in third place more than 34 seconds back
The penultimate round of the Superprestige series in Diegem was held under the evening floodlights in front of massive crowds who came out to watch the nighttime race
Zoe Backstedt (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) was the fastest off the start line and led the field into the uphill first section of the course and onto the grass
She was quickly passed in the first off-camber banking by Inge van der Heijden (Crelan-Corendon) and Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck)
Van der Heijden and Pieterse gained a small gap as Backstedt lost ground and joined a chase group with series leader Annemarie Worst (Cyclocross Reds)
series runner-up Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Alpecin-Deceuninck)
Pieterse carried speed and flawless technique across the opening lap of racing
and quickly shedding Van der Heijden from her wheel
Pieterse extended her lead out to 17 seconds over Van der Heijden by the start of the third lap of racing.
Alvarado soon connected with Van der Heijden in the hunt for series points and for solo leader Pieterse
Backstedt led a group of four that also included Vas
Pieterse entered the fourth of six laps with a 21-second lead over Alvarado
who had already distanced Van der Heijden by an additional six seconds

Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado and her Alpecin-Deceuninck teammate Puck Pieterse took off onto the highly-technical and well-lit circuit that was held in the darkness of the early evening in front of hundreds of local fans
opened an early lead on the first lap as the field behind powered through the mud in a heated chase
Inge van der Heijden (777) raced through the end of the first lap at 16 seconds back
Shirin van Anrooij (Baloise Trek Lions) at 19 seconds
Kata Vas (SD Worx) at 24 seconds and Denise Betsema (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal) at 26 seconds
On lap two, new chasers Betsema and Alvarado reconnected along the circuit as Zoe Backstedt (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) desperately tried to close the gap
Pieterse maintained a 10-second lead ahead of lone chaser Van Anrooij
who almost flawlessly glided along the trickier sections of the circuit.
Alvarado and Van der Heijden settled into a two-rider rhythm while Betsema struggled to stay with the pair
Backstedt and Silvia Persico (Valcar Travel & Service)

Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) quickly connected with the back of that group before the circuit’s climb

carrying speed out of the sandpit on the third lap
The Ineos Grenadiers rider put pressure on to try and reduce the group to just five riders including Van der Poel
Van der Poel made a blistering attack through the sandpit and carried so much speed coming out of it that he had already opened a small gap.

Van der Poel hit the sandpit with a 10-second margin on Iserbyt and Pidcock and gained an additional three seconds coming out of the pit

Briton hopes to find better form to take on Mathieu van der Poel
Van der Poel dominated yet again to win his fifth consecutive race of Kerstperiode of cyclocross racing but Pidcock battled to finish second
“It was nice that he waited so long,” Pidcock joked about Van der Poel's tactic of waiting for the fifth lap before making his blistering attack in the sand.
“Everyone knew that Mathieu was going to attack in the sand
the left and then the right to find the right line but never found it
Mathieu is a step above everyone this year.”
Pidcock kept his best for the last lap and his final shot at passing Iserbyt
He was a few lengths behind before the bridge but used a sprint and speed on the descent to close the gap
He then dived down Iserbyt’s left on the final muddy straight
The two bumped shoulders as they fought for the front but Pidcock had slightly more speed and more bravado and got in front
He ran up the last flight of steps and sprinted to the finish line
“I really fought with Eli Iserbyt until the last metres

The duo separated themselves from the field along with Yara Kastelijn as the lead group slowly whittled down over the race's five laps. The trio got away with one to go, but Kastelijn lost contact with Worst and Alvarado as the pace picked up to a near sprint with half a lap remaining.
In the end, it was Worst who outlasted Alvardo as she crossed the line to take the emphatic victory.
Former world champion Pauline Ferrand Prevot finished outside the top 10 in her return to cyclo-cross racing.
World champion places second behind Van Aert on Wednesday
“Honestly, I think this was the easiest race of the last three,” Pidcock told Sporza
It’s just a shame I couldn’t pull it off.”
Pidcock placed third behind a rampant Van der Poel at the Gavere World Cup on December 26 before taking fourth as Van Aert won Superprestige Heusden-Zolder the following day
In Diegem late on Wednesday evening – the race was scheduled to avoid a broadcasting clash with Flemish soap opera ‘Thuis’ – the world champion had the look of a man hitting his stride
The Ineos Grenadiers rider pushed Van Aert all the way to the finish after they distanced Van der Poel as the final lap got underway
but the Briton surrendered his advantage just before the final steps
I was a bit complacent,” Pidcock said
“I thought I had the lead into the final stairs
but Wout just came past me on that last bit before the final bridge
He just ran up the steps and jumped back on his bike before I even looked up.”
Pidcock declared himself satisfied with how he navigated the sand in Diegem
noting that he had chosen his line after watching the women’s race
“It paid off because I think I rode the sand pretty good today,” said the Briton
who is set to return to action at Friday’s Exact Cross Loenhout before he lines up at X2O Trofee Baal on New Year’s Day.
“We’ll have to see what [coach] Kurt Bogaerts says
maybe I’ll be motor-pacing,” Pidcock said when asked how he would spend a rare rest day on Thursday
Puck Pieterse victorious in women’s race in Diegem
Wout van Aert emerged victorious from another battle of the cyclocross ‘big three’ at the Superprestige Diegem night race in Belgium on Wednesday evening.
It was Van Aert’s second victory in a matter of days over his rivals after winning the Superprestige Heusden-Zolder on Tuesday.
The British rider led Van Aert into the course's final lap as the two were locked head to head
with barely anything appearing to separate them.
In the end it came down to a slight error from Pidcock which gave Van Aert a decisive gap to then push on for the victory.
After coming across the line in first place
Van Aert explained that earlier moves from his rival Mathieu van der Poel had left him thinking the victory was out of reach.
“Today has shown again that it is close together,” Van Aert said
“The sand was my pain point in the beginning and that started playing in my head
I actually gave up and thought Mathieu had gone flying
But after that I still had Mathieu in sight
The race started back and I started to believe in it again.”
Pidcock admitted that he could only marvel at Van Aert’s speed in the closing stages as the Belgian disappeared up the stairs before sprinting to victory.
and Wout came passed me in that last bit before the final bridge
He ran up those stairs and jumped on his bike before I even looked up
It was a shame I couldn't pull it off," Pidcock said
Pieterse pushed on in the first lap of the course and never let up to take a resounding win
Shirin van Anrooij of Baloise Trek Lions finished in second
30 seconds back on Pieterse with Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado in third place.
Pieterse admitted that at one point she felt Van Anrooij was a little too close for comfort.
and I started to stress...I decided to go full steam ahead," she said
“I decided not to hesitate anymore and to go into the last two laps full gas
But then I was able to pull away again.”
then you just have to keep going,” she added
Great Britain’s Zoe Bäckstedt came home in seventh place
just under two minutes behind Pieterse.

Company adding more than 6,000 sqm across two sites
Belgian data center operator LCL is investing €120 million ($127.6m) in expanding its facilities in Brussels
the company said it will invest €100 million ($106m) in two expansion projects in Aalst and Diegem – both in the north of the Belgian capital – and €20 million ($21.2m) in sustainability efforts
Work on the Aalst expansion has already begun; the company will add 2,367 sqm (25,480 sq ft) across multiple data rooms
Work on expanding the data center in Diegem will start in December 2023 and continue until October 2025
The company said four floors will be added to the building
adding an additional 24MW and 4,000 sqm (43,055 sq ft)
LCL will also install solar panels on the façade of LCL Brussels-North facility in Diegem
The company also aims to invest in more efficient cooling systems to reduce facility PUEs
“To maintain our leading position in the Belgian data center sector
we need to continue to expand our existing data centers and equip them with sustainable innovations
This is essential if we are to host and serve as many customers as possible
The investments we will make represent a step forward for our company and for existing and future customers,” said Laurens van Reijen
LCL began in 2002 when CEO van Reijen acquired a former Ebone data center in Diegem, and operated it under the name LCL Telehousing. Today the company operates in five locations including Brussels, Antwerp, and Gembloux

Company says racks have already been reserved
Belgian data center operator LCL Data Centers is investing €30 million ($32.6m) into the expansion of its Brussels-North facility
The company will be building a data center at its Brussels-North site
The company has not disclosed the specifications of the planned expansion
the building will not be fully equipped at first
so the facility can be adjusted to the specific needs of customers
LCL Data Centers said several customers have already reserved racks at the new facility
said: “LCL Brussels-North is a hub through which all Belgian internet traffic flows and that makes it the region’s best-connected data center complex
Adding another data center will enable us to continue to support society’s growing digitalization.”
The company said the design of its new facility has been certified as Tier III by Uptime Institute
The facility will also prioritize sustainability with the data center operator upgrading cooling installations and considering alternative cooling methods
LCL Data Centers currently uses free-cooling to cool its data center spaces
but said it is looking into liquid cooling
Plans to expand the Brussels-North facility in Diegem were originally announced late last year
It’s unclear if this is the same expansion re-announced or another new facility
the company said work on expanding the site would start in December 2023 and continue until October 2025; four floors were set to be added to the building
LCL also planned on installing solar panels on the facade of the new facility
The company acquired the former Ebone data center in Diegem in 2002, operating under the name TCL telehousing. The company now operates in five locations, including Brussels, Antwerp, and Gembloux

'Big three' put on a show for the crowds in midweek night race in Belgium
The Belgian Champion capitalized off a last-minute error from Pidcock through the last corner into the bottom of the circuit's decisive staircase to take the victory
as Van der Poel finished 33 seconds back in third place
"This can't be healthy," an exhausted but triumphant Van Aert said in a post-race interview
The blistering race between the three top riders swung back and forth on each lap
but with Van der Poel distanced on the final lap
the race for the win was between Van Aert and Pidcock
The two leaders fought for the first position into the final steps
but Pidcock was forced off his bike to run through the mud in the last left-hand turn while Van Aert raced into the lead out of the corner
clipped in and sprinted for the day's victory
Superprestige Diegem offered a night race in its return to the calendar since 2019.
Headling the start line were the 'big three' of cyclocross; Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma)
Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers)
A crash off the start line caught out about half a dozen of the 92 starters as Kevin Kuhn (Tormans) led the race onto the grass.
The Swiss champion was followed by Pidcock
along with Eli Iserbyt (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal)
Toon Vandebosch (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Michael Vanthourenhout (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal)
Vanthourenhout crashed over the barriers after colliding with Sweeck
and the European Champion remained sat at the side of the circuit for several seconds
later remounting his bike and finishing fifth
the lead was swapping back and forth between Pidcock and Iserbyt
with Van Aert and Van der Poel following close behind
and then seven seconds back to Van der Haar and 14 seconds to Kuhn and Sweeck
A strong start for Pidcock saw the world champion set a quick pace that allowed him to open a small gap over his rivals
forcing Van der Poel and Van Aert to chase at a pace that Iserbyt appeared unable to hold
The four riders regrouped ahead of the run-up
but their cooperation didn't last long as Van der Poel attacked through the sand pit and gained a slight lead on the chasing trio
Van der Poel had a four-second lead on Van Aert at the start of the third lap (of eight)
Van Aert and Pidcock regained contact with Van der Poel on the pavement section of the course
with the 'big three' once again racing for the victory
Van der Haar and Vanthourenhout reunited slightly further back in their race for fourth place
Van Aert put pressure on his rivals along the side of the pitch
and while Van der Poel was quick to respond

The move forced Van Aert to do the bulk of the work
Van der Poel had four seconds in hand at the start of lap five and extended his lead through the sand pit again
A determined Pidcock pushed ahead in pursuit of Van der Poel while Van Aert
Van der Poel had nine seconds on Pidcock and 13 seconds to Van Aert at the start of lap six
Pidcock and Van Aert opted not to enter the mechanic pits but instead picked up speed
Van der Poel looked back over his shoulder on the pavement to see both Pidcock and Van Aert right on his wheel
Van Aert was the next to make his move through the sand pit and over the barriers
appearing to have recovered from his previous effort and putting pressure on Van der Poel and Pidcock
Seven seconds separated Van Aert from his two biggest rivals with two laps to go
and as the pair sat up in a tactical battle
Pidcock appeared to gain a second wind and picked up speed heading into the last lap with Van Aert on his wheel
The pair dropped Van der Poel in the process
forcing the Dutchman to settle for third place
Van Aert remained in the lead until Pidcock overtook him through the technical turns
both riders wanting the first position into the final steps
as Pidcock had to get off his bike and run through the final corner

Mathieu van der Poel has won on sandy courses
muddy courses and fast courses this season
and on Thursday the world champion triumphed in the Superprestige Diegem’s unique race under lights
He took the Diegem race six times in a row in the latter half of last decade
Eli Iserbyt wrapped up his second Superprestige title with a race to spare
Jayden McMullen was the top Canadian in the Junior men’s race at 49th
Wout van Aert claimed his second triumph of the season in Wednesday’s sixth Superprestige round in Heusden-Zolder; Cody Scott was top Canadian in 51st
Wednesday’s runner-up Eli Iserbyt led third-place Joris Nieuwenhuis by 25 points at the top of the table
was not racing under the lights on Wednesday
Onge and Fabian Merino made up the Canadian contingent
The selection came early in the first circuit
Thibau Nys and Michael Vanthourenhout formed the lead group
The artificially-illuminated Pidcock tried to shake van der Poel and company on Lap 2 but to no avail
The quartet was not far ahead of a chase trio containing Nieuwenhuis
A few lesser-known riders reinforced the front group on Lap 3
Vanthourenhout and Pidcock were the closest chasers
Vanthourenhout and Iserbyt were eight seconds behind
This time van der Poel didn’t have to shove riders to lap them
Nys abandoned the race after crashing with two others
On the penultimate lap Eli and Tom fought a spirited battle for second place 38 seconds behind the man in the rainbow jersey
Iserbyt’s acceleration at the start of the bell lap dislodged the 2022 world champion
and the Brit won the contest for the second step
Ellen Van Loy (Young Telenet-Fidea) had to wait a long time but on Sunday afternoon
she finally grabbed the first big win of her career
The 35-year-old Belgian rider completed a long solo ride at the sixth Superprestige round of the season in Diegem
Belgium to top Sanne Cant (Enertherm-BKCP)
Cant took over the lead in the Ladies Trophy from Jolien Verschueren (Young Telenet-Fidea) who placed seventh in Diegem
“The poor form I had a few weeks ago is clearly gone
I’m pleased with how I’m riding
It’s fine that I’m able to show off my form,” Van Loy told Telenet Play Sports
where Van Loy immediately took the initiative
Italian champion Eva Lechner (Colnago-SudTirol)
Sabrina Stultiens (Liv-Plantur) and British champion Helen Wyman (Kona Factory Team) were trying to keep up with the pace set by Van Loy
Ladies Trophy leader Jolien Verschueren had her typical poor start and never got back in touch with the front of the race
That’s partly because Van Loy never took her foot off the gas
Van Loy managed to create the first gap on Cant and Lechner
which quickly turned into an advantage of 10 seconds
By the time Wyman and Stultiens bridged up with Cant
they were trailing leader Van Loy by 20 seconds
four riders were battling for second place
Cant was the first to reach her favourite terrain
Van Loy grabbed her second win of the season but the first major win of her career
On Saturday she also finished on the World Cup podium for the first time
Cant now tops the classification in the Ladies Trophy with 74 points
holding a one-point bonus over Verschueren

Read on for more on the resolutions of this urban plan after the break.
The site, Machelen-Diegem, presents itself as a series of contrasts. It is located in the large urban area; yet often is reminiscent of a small community. It is divided by a series of imposed infrastructural lines (rail, highway and international airport); while its long term economic vitality hinges upon the proximity to these networks. Historically it is two distinct villages; that now function under one governmental body. These potentials and problems present a rich set of questions.
site 03The preliminary designs focus on the current realities and long term futures of residents of the villages. Firstly, it addresses the specific impacts of the regional infrastructure that have been rolled out over the villages without much consideration. The work seeks to both remedy the unresolved spaces that have emerged and to harness the economic potential that being tied to these large networks offer.

Wout Van Aert won the Superprestige race in Diegem yesterday evening
In a special night edition held in floodlights
and despite being "completely dead" as he told reporters after the finish
the Belgian champion Van Aert beat world champion Britain's Tom Pidcock after a long
the cyclocross race in Diegem attracted about 20,000 enthusiasts
The cyclocross classic in Diegem (near Brussels) is a technical race with a stretch through an artificial sand section in each of the 8 laps
muddy sections and also two hurdles in the form of upright planks where riders can choose to jump across or to get off the bike to get past it
it first looked as if Van der Poel had the best cards
He accelerated halfway in the sand section and set up a solo effort
But he didn't have the legs to stay in front: his eternal rival Van Aert caught him back; the two hesitated and let Briton Tom Pidcock come back
Pidcock next turned the tables and escaped; Van Aert found it hard to close the gap but managed to return in the end
Van Aert got the better of Pidcock in the final lap
the Belgian from Herentals made a gesture to say he was completely exhausted
"This cannot be healthy," Van Aert said about the tough race where he had to dig very
Tom Pidcock smiled and said: "A hard race
this was the easiest of the last three we did." (a reference to the race in Gavere
which included a lot of mud and hard climbs
The trio Wout Van Aert - Tom Pidcock - Mathieu Van der Poel also makes the headlines in the road races during the road season
