The armed robbery took place in March 2024
believed to be a man and disguised as a woman

He then locked up the employee and fled the scene with jewellery and foreign currency
Police have released following description of the culprit: ‘The suspect is a man
He was carrying a black handbag and a knife with a red blade.’

Situated in the center of Dilbeek – the unofficial cultural capital of the Flemish-speaking belt of Brussels –
the building faces contrasting situations: to the south
the Westrand Cultural Center; to the north
the forest area of Wolfsputten; and to the east
a compact group of typical suburban homes with pitched roofs
To take stock of this diversity of surroundings
the building simultaneously adopts various strategies
with volume: the new building – which is to be the seat of an Academy of Music
Drama and Dance – is conceived to be a soft transition between the scale of the one-family houses on one hand and the imposing presence of CC Westrand on the other
with form: the large sloping roof reflects those of the traditional dwellings on one side
to then on the other side open up to the CC Westrand itself
with function: a covered public space has been created to give access to the academy
with iconry: a dynamic facade is conceived as an op-art piece
The passer-by walking towards the trees of the Wolfsputten park perceives a facade with trees
while one going in the opposite direction discerns a sequence of pure colors that combine to evoke the chromatic compositions of Alfons Hoppenbrouwers

has officially joined the High Council for Artisanal Lambic Beers (HORAL)
12 other lambic brewers and gueuze blenders from the Pajottenland and the Senne Valley are HORAL members and together they represent more than 80% of traditional lambic production
which aims to promote and protect traditional lambic beers
particularly the Oude Geuze and Oude Kriek
also organises the Toer de Geuze – a weekend event which sees each brewery open its doors to the public
The next Toer de Geuze will take place from 4-5 May 2024 and will include all HOREL members as well as newcomer Kestemont
the Kestemont family bought the partially restored buildings of the former Goossens brewery in Sint-Gertrudis-Pede
a hamlet in Dilbeek and in 2019 Lias Kestemont and his brother-in-law Wim Krieckemans ordered their first shipment of wort at the Den Herberg brewery
Kestemont said: “We let it mature in oak barrels in the large barn
with which we can brew 1,500 litres at a time.”
He explained: “Our lambic stock currently amounts to around 700 hectolitres
one will find French wine barrels of approximately 200 litres
and even various cognac barrels in which between 400 and 600 litres of lambic can mature
Krieckemans explained: “Although we are one of the youngest lambic producers
Lias and I hold tradition and authenticity of paramount importance
we offer Oude Lambiek in bag-in-box through specialised retailers
intended for pub owners and lambic enthusiasts
awarded a silver medal at the Brussels Beer Challenge 2023
made with home-grown red and other berries.”
Krieckemans revealed: “Towards the Toer de Geuze 2024
we will release a lambic beer with blood orange and another with bergamot
We are looking forward to making this biennial lambic event a great success with all other HORAL members.”
Speaking about the newcomers to the lambic scene
HORAL chairman Gert Christiaens said: “Kestemont’s accession to our non-profit organisation was unanimously approved by the General Assembly.”
Christiaens added: “The Lambicland landscape is becoming more diverse
It contributes to the greater attraction that the Pajottenland and the Senne Valley exert on beer lovers from our country and far beyond
HORAL will again celebrate the high mass of the Oude Geuze and Oude Kriek
but I am convinced that the upcoming Toer de Geuze will surpass all previous editions regarding visitor numbers.”
The non-profit organisation has united most Geuze blenders and lambic breweries in Flemish and Walloon Brabant
These include: Boon; De Oude Cam; De Troch; Den Herberg; Eylenbosch; Hanssens; Kestemont; Lambiek Fabriek; Lindemans; Mort Subite; Oud Beersel; Tilquin and Timmermans

the flemish region that inspired painter pieter bruegel the elder
it is said that bruegel traveled several times from brussels to the countryside to sketch views of this typical flemish landscape
‘study for a windmill’ recalls the atmosphere of bruegel’s works
which often depict the iconic windmill within the dilbeek landscape
and freely reimagines this iconic landmark

with its study for a windmill, gijs van vaerenbergh hybridizes the spontaneity and ephemerality of drawing and the tangible and monumental nature of architecture
the sculpture depicts a half-scale model of a post mill
the three dimensional line work of reinforcing steel evoking a playful hand-sketch
the work seems to disappear almost entirely
‘study for a windmill’ stands out against the open skies and shifts with the viewer’s perspective
‘study for a windmill’ evokes gijs van vaerenbergh’s characteristic play with references — not only references to art history
but also allusions to the meaning of a place
the duo further develops an oeuvre of spatial installations that harken the site-specific qualities of a place
this is achieved through the novel interpretation of such foundational architectural elements as the gate
‘study for a windmill’ is not only a tribute to bruegel’s mill
but also a reference to its significance in the region’s productive landscape
a recognizable landmark that has long since disappeared

Text description provided by the architects. The existing house in the middle of the fields is very charming. It’s architecture does not interact with it’s context so it seems as if the house accidentally ended up there.
This unique image was preserved. Some subtle interventions on the existing facade show that the house has been given a second life.
These were repeated in a new concrete volume that was built next to the house
The new volume is half-sunk into the hill so an enclosed yard at the back of the house is created
Only this part of the garden is finished en provides a private outdoor space

As part of this masterplan PLUSOFFICE renovated "Gaudium". This former coach house was used as a novices' residence. The historic facades are restored, the annexes replaced and the design is based on a nearly energy-neutral technology concept. The re-adapted residence will accommodate nine residents, each of whom will have a fully equipped care room and share some special living areas.
© Dennis De SmetPLUSOFFICE's intervention revalues the original main volume
and places a "twin-sister" as an extension next to the original building
The new roof form blends seamlessly with the historic building and is made of clay roof tiles in harmony with the existing brick façade
The annex replicates this use of materials and extends it with contemporary window openings
The balustrades in front of these windows are figuratively detailed inspired by the fine wooden cut-outs of the main building

American YouTuber Randy Santel has eaten two giant burgers in record time at Flemish burger restaurant Plein 12 in Dilbeek (Flemish Brabant)
The celebrated American vlogger is currently travelling across the Benelux to break eating records at various restaurants
who dedicates his channel to various grotesque eating challenges
He and his girlfriend are currently travelling through the Benelux and were looking for eateries in Belgium
the Netherlands and Luxembourg that could offer an "eating challenge"
Stijn Tiebout of burger restaurant Plein 12 in Dilbeek immediately responded to the call
"We have a big Godzilla burger," says Stijn
five pieces of bacon and five pieces of cheese on it
The idea is really just to eat the burger within half an hour
Then you will be featured on our Wall of Fame," says Stijn
But when regular customer Maxim Wauters from Aalst ate the burger in 13 minutes and 22 seconds
the restaurant decided that was the record time to beat
The American YouTuber smashed Maxime's record
but not before his wife Katina did the same: "She took 8 minutes and 42 seconds
Then Randy shaved a further second off the record
He ate his burger in 8 minutes and 41 seconds," says Stijn
He ate a second giant burger in less than half an hour
"He actually ate double what somebody else would eat in the same time," says Stijn
Has Stijn made a record attempt in his own restaurant
I hardly get to finish our burger with two pieces of meat," he laughs

but he still needs to win his first Tour de France - he may have a go at it next year
For the first time since 2018 the international geuze and kriek beer festival will be held on Friday 21 April
As was the case 5 years ago the festival will be held in the centre of Itterbeek
a village that is part of the Flemish Brabant municipality of Dilbeek
De Nacht Van De Grote Dorst (The Night of Great Thirst) as the festival is known features brings together fans of lambic and geuze beer from both Belgium and abroad
The location of the festival is in the very heart of the region in which lambic based beers are produced: the Pajottenland and Zenne Valley areas of Flemish Brabant and Brussels that has one such brewery in the municipality of Anderlecht
The Gueuze Society that organises the festival was founded in 2012
It promotes the regional produce of the Pajottenland area
more specifically beers from the region that are brewed via spontaneous fermentation such as lambic
In addition to the organisation of what prior to the coronavirus pandemic had been a biannual festival
the Geuze society also organises other smaller festivals and events such as lecturers
The Gueuze Society aims to bring gueuze enthusiasts together
At the last festival in 2018 more than a quarter of the 2,500 visitors at the festival came from abroad
The first International Gueuze and Kriek Festival
