The building of the kindergarten interweaves in the morphology of the street. The building tries to fit in with the existing row houses. The facade bends with the curvature of the street and connects to the adjacent building on both sides. The kindergarten consists of 2 floors and fits in height between the other houses in the street. The facades in the street are characterized by traditional masonry within which architectural elements are stacked. This is repeated in a contemporary way at the school. The rhythm in the facade is completely taken over from the existing school The masonry then searches for connections to the surrounding buildings You'll now receive updates based on what you follow Personalize your stream and start following your favorite authors If you have done all of this and still can't find the email This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed triggered the security solution There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase You can email the site owner to let them know you were blocked Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page   an ambitious redevelopment project is underway POLO Architects and partners are creating a new residential site next to the Hof ter Linden castle The car-free neighborhood boasts a vast parkland which connects to the adjacent castle grounds and is open to the public The Elysia Park project contains 345 residential units from apartments to assisted living facilities attracting residents of different generations Every building offers views on the gardens thanks to clever planning and large panoramic windows one of Belgium’s leading architecture firms Founded by Mauro Poponcini and Patrick Lootens in 1991 POLO architects has grown to become a multidisciplinary team of over 100 creative professionals with offices in Antwerp and Brussels Over the years POLO Architects has built up a national and international portfolio Communication between both clients (different colors) and architect using remarks on the pdfs of the plans during a ‘review’ The Elysia Park project is divided into four building clusters the teams did not use a collaboration platform “The BIM model used to live on our company server and we would export it whenever we needed to share it with external parties,” explains Laura Rombaut Architect and BIM model manager on the project at POLO Architects “We would send the model through WeTransfer and wouldn’t know when it is used The partner would take one or two weeks to get back to us The customer would often make remarks by hand on a printout and these would need to be transferred to Revit Or someone would take notes in a meeting and incorporate them into the model later with potential omissions or misunderstandings POLO Architects were keen to help their projects run more smoothly and started looking into collaboration software Since they were already using Revit for modeling “We did not look on the market for different solutions we wanted to stay with Autodesk,” says Rudi Van Thienen “There was not much discussion; we just went for BIM Collaborate Pro” we persuaded our customer and our subcontractors to sign up for BIM Collaborate Pro The firm tried out BIM Collaborate Pro on several smaller projects and was impressed with the results So they decided to implement the solution at scale And this is what they did for phases 3 and 4 of the Elysia project The project involves four key parties: the architects All are now collaborating on the BIM Collaborate Pro platform When the building contractors join at a later stage in the project “It was very clear to us that every other discipline working on this project had to use the same platform,” says Jan Cant we persuaded our customer and our sub-contractors to sign up for BIM Collaborate Pro POLO Architects even created a tailored manual for the customer Online architectural 3D model with comments Having all the parties work together on one platform on such a large project for the first time has made a big difference “The time we used to lose waiting for other modelers no more uploading and downloading,” says Rombaut All parties always work on the latest version of the model which prevents a lot of mistakes and misunderstandings “It gives us a much clearer overview,” says Van Thienen If there were issues marked on a model in Revit the client makes a remark intended for stability engineers “We used to have so many meetings and so many mistakes,” says Cant You can look at the same thing on the screen It’s very different from the old way of working.” “We estimate a 50% reduction in the number of mistakes and in the time needed to complete some project stages,” says Cant “BIM Collaborate Pro gives us the ability to look over the shoulder of the architects and engineering partners while they are designing We get a better feeling about the work that has been done and that needs to be done at any given moment with the ability to make remarks and follow up on those remarks It gives us better confidence as we plan towards construction,” says Jan Van Tilborgh Project Manager at Cornerstones Development “It’s easier to communicate with different partners and study teams when we’re in the same platform.” “It can become very easy to communicate at a distance with different partners and study teams when we’re all in the same cloud platform,” adds Alexandra Dierick “It is helpful to keep an overview and it facilitates the follow up of the ongoing issues during different stages of a project the advantages will only become more important especially now that teleworking is becoming the new way of working.” There used to be a regular meeting at the client’s place Soon after we started using BIM Collaborate Pro because we could easily address the issues through the platform.” And as coronavirus-related restrictions were introduced in Belgium the team could continue their work uninterrupted from home thanks to BIM Collaborate Pro POLO Architects now plans to use BIM Collaborate Pro on all new projects that have external parties See all Autodesk products Learn more about POLO Architects Watch POLO present in BIM 360 Design Webinar "Getting Started" © Dennis de SmetThe building is designed to be future-proof. Bookshelves can be replaced by audio visual media and hybrid forms of working-, reading- and meeting spaces. Through this investment in community infrastructure, the aim was to maintain the livability and viability of Edegem's historic center as an inclusive place for all ages. © Dennis de SmetThanks to their support, an innovative design for a public building has been realised. Text description provided by the architects. This project is framed within a wider masterplan for the Fort V site, aiming to strengthen the current function of public park. The 'bioclass' is known to locals, but needs a new infrastructure. It is conceived as a new reception centre for education of nature and ecology for the region. The design interprets the existing warehouse as a Hortus Conclusus, in which the existing walls are considered as garden walls. The warehouse will be opened up in certain area's to allow vegetation to grow in a controlled way. Zones will be installed which house rare plant species, a swamp, or a summer bar reception area. The hall is the first place to start excursions for fauna and flora, which can extend into the park of Fort V. and 312 m2 of hempcrete was installed in a 2 week workshop: together more than 150 volunteers worked on and learned with this project the design strives to become the region's cultural hub and form a cohesive connection between its established public spaces Courtesy of Marc Koehler ArchitectsIn addition to the competition's prescribed program, the leisure center incorporates a residential element to boost the value of the region. Located in a privileged section of Edegem, the funds obtained by selling these properties can be funneled back into the project, allowing it to meet sustainable and energy-efficient goals. Courtesy of Marc Koehler ArchitectsA central part of the community, the leisure center places the public at its heart, working closely with Edegem inhabitants from the start of the design process. As plans are solidified, the design team will continue its partnership with local residents to ensure the new center best caters to its occupants' needs.
