A 14-year-old girl has died in a road accident while she was on her way to school in Kapellen
The girl was crossing the Klinkaardstraat on her bicycle when she was hit by a bus
The Klinkaardstraat that is part of the N111
the main road between Antwerp and Wuustwezel (Antwerp Province) has been closed to traffic to allow and accident investigation to take place
Tom De Gent of the Noord Local Police Service told VRT News “That the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is still ongoing
While she was crossing the road she was hit by a bus
Although the emergency services were at the scene quickly attempts to save her were in vain”
"We are now above all focusing on the victim’s family
The bus driver will also be offered help from victim support”
The N111 was closed in both direction for a time between the Dreihoevenseweg and the Canadezenlaan
By 10.30am the road had reopened for traffic heading south towards Antwerp
Plymouth — Steve Kapellen has what some might consider a dream job: He tastes cheese for a living
bends it and crumples it between his fingers
Kapellen is a cheese grader specialist at Sargento
the Plymouth-based cheese processing company that makes products for retail stores as well as for other food companies and food service businesses
Kapellen and his team decide whether a block of cheese is worthy to be turned into a Sargento product
But Kapellen says the snacking opportunity isn't what's kept him at Sargento for 41 years
Sargento's culture of respect and flexibility is what won the family-owned business the top ranking among large employers in the Journal Sentinel's "Top 100 Workplaces" in southeastern Wisconsin
"It's very humbling and it means a lot to us," said Lou Gentine
chief executive officer of the company his father founded
"Hire good people and treat them like family is really the base of the culture," Gentine said
Lou and his family realized that they needed to put his ideas in writing to make sure they were carried on
They created a brochure that is still used today to explain the company's values and culture
Sargento puts the values into practice in many ways
• Work/life balance: Sargento allows production workers a certain amount of time each year to tend to family matters such as school events
• Social: The company sponsors a Christmas party and an annual recognition event to celebrate service milestones in five-year increments
at places such as the American Club at Kohler and The Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake
There's a big summer picnic for workers and their families
workers also enjoy smaller events involving bowling and fishing
the Gentine family is there with the employees
enjoying the event," a worker wrote in an evaluation of the company
• Financial: Sargento holds a meeting every year to explain the company's financial situation and to discuss political and economic events that affect its performance
Employees get profit-sharing bonuses when the company does well
"In years when the company has not performed to its financial targets
the less bonus is paid," another employee wrote
• Opportunities: Sargento pays for college tuition for its full-time employees who pursue bachelor's or master's degrees
even if the degree is not directly linked to the job
• Health: Sargento has a nurse practitioner and a physical therapist on the premises several days a week at its Plymouth headquarters and Kiel plants
Workers and their families pay $10 per visit for routine care
• Job security: Employees whose jobs are replaced by automation are not fired
they are transferred to other jobs within the company
"That really helps our employees engage in helping us to improve," Rhyan said
• Community service: Sargento was the first southeastern Wisconsin company to "blitz build" two houses for Habitat for Humanity
Each year a few dozen employees spend a week working for Habitat instead of doing their regular jobs
Groups of workers also participate in the St
Benedict the Moor meal program in Milwaukee
A singing group performs for residents of nursing homes
is one of 10 people who has worked at Sargento for 40 or more years
and 20% of the company's 1,400 employees have been there for more than 20 years
An employee who was hired in 1998 wrote anonymously of Sargento's effect on his life: "Prior to joining Sargento
Being employed at Sargento has made my family stronger and appreciative for the finer things in life
and I have the Gentine and Sargento family to thank for that."
The name Sargento is a combination of Gentine and Sartori
Leonard Gentine's business partner when he started the cheese business in 1953
Joseph Sartori eventually left the partnership to start his own cheese business
Totilas returned to the competition arena Thursday for the first time in two years to be ridden by Matthias Alexander Rath to score 78.680 per cent in the Grand Prix at the Kapellen
Belgium CDI3* with a high of 82.900 per cent and a low of 73.700 per cent
The 14-year-old black stallion looked fit and muscled
showing off piaffe/passage and extended trot that have made Totilas perhaps the most famous dressage horse in history
but there were mistakes in the one-tempi changes and completing the second pirouette
The video, from Hoefslag, can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzOwt7upnm0
Sweden’s Jennie Larssn on Zircoon Spring Flower was the only other combination to score 70 per cent
Belgium’s Laurence Vanommeslaghe on Avec Plaisir was third on 69.420 per cent
The highest scores for the German victors came from Irina McNamee of Russia at E awarding Totilas 82.900 per cent and Leif Törnblad of Denmark at C scoring it 82.200 per cent
Dietrich Plewa of Germany at H gave the pair 79.500 per cent
The two Belgian judges gave the lowest scores: Freddy Leyman at M on 75.100 per cent and Geert Lemmens at B 73.700
The gap between the highest and lowest scores–at E and B that are in the center of the arena directly across from each other–was a whopping 9.200 per cent
well outside the six percentage point spread that most top judges regard as reasonable differences
as many in the dressage community believe should happen
the final result would not have been much different–78.933 per cent
Leif Törnblad and and Dietrich Plewa are rated FEI 5*
while Freddy Leyman and Irina McNamee are 4* judges and Geert Lemmens 3*
The result was shy of their best of 83.809 per cent in the pair’s last CDI Grand Prix
to put the result into current perspective the score of 78.680 per cent has been surpassed by only three other combinations in the world in 2014–Great Britain’s Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro
Helen Langehanenberg of Germany and Damon Hill NRW and Edward Gal of the Netherlands and Glock’s Undercover
Totilas (Gribaldi x Glendale) became perhaps the most famous dressage horse in history when ridden by Edward Gal of the Netherlands
Their last appearance was almost exactly four years ago
at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky where the pair won all three gold medals available–team and two individual
Totilas was then sold to Paul Schockemöhle and Ann-Katrin Linsenhof to be ridden by Matthias
The horse’s schedule was marred by injuries and Matthias struggled to achieve the same level of success enjoyed by Edward
three weeks before the start of the Normandy WEG
coaching was switched from Matthias’s father to Sjef Janssen
who was also coach of the Dutch team when Edward and Totilas were partnered
Kapellen CDI3 GP
German duo Matthias Alexander Rath and the 14-year old Dutch warmblood stallion Totilas made a long awaited
smooth come back to the show ring at the 2014 CDI Kapellen on Thursday 21 May 2014
but as soon as the black stallion appeared on the show grounds
the media buzzed with the news and a fairly large crowd gathered at the normally low-key CDI in Belgium
Rath and Totilas topped the leader board with a 78.680% earning test
The horse looked very relaxed in the show ring
showing very positive developments as well as a few negative points that need working on
more length in the neck and soft in the bridle
even though the contact with the curb could be lighter
The horse looked less jittery and electric in his movements and more supple and athletic overall
while they did show improved overtrack (something which never happened under Gal!)
the horse was visibly very irregular in front
lifting the left front leg much higher than the right
The pair scored an average 7.1 for the trot extensions
which was overrated due to the unevenness in the steps
the second piaffe was the best one of the three shown
The transition out of the first piaffe was a bit wobbly
Throughout the test the horse needed to be more up in the bridle in the piaffe and passage as he often became deep
The extended walk had very good relaxation and nice overtrack
In the canter tour the two tempi changes were big but the horse swung too much in the hindquarters losing the straightness on the diagonal
There were two mistakes in the one tempi changes
the right one was smaller but Totilas blocked behind right before the exit
In the final passage on the centreline the stallion anticipated the halt and braked a bit early
It was very interesting to see how the judges would assess this test as their score would set the tone for future results
The fact that the panel of five disagreed and marked the ride between 73.700% (Lemmens) and 82.900% (Maknami) spoke words
Their marks averaged a fairly generous 78.680% which immediately made them competitive for a spot on the German 2014 World Equestrian Games team
German team trainer Monica Theodorescu drove to Kapellen last minute to see the pair with her own eyes
Last time she had seen the duo train was at the Preis der Besten Qualifier at Schafhof in April
Rath and Totilas have only been back in full training since February 2014
Rath will have to compete at the mandatory selection trials in Perl (26 - 29 June) and Aachen (17 - 21 July)
"His neck is more nicely muscled and the trot is no longer so hectic," she told Reiter Revue
The horse is in good condition and performed very happily
You can see that the horse has the willingness and eagerness
After winning the test Rath confessed he was very relieved
"The nerves and emotions were very intense today," Rath stated
"I can hardly describe in words the burden that has fallen off my shoulders
(...) This show was not about placing well
but that Toto can show in the ring what we have noticed in training: his fun at going to shows and the joy he has in his work
which I feel and hopefully the audience can see too
I couldn't have longed for more than what he gave me today."
It was first organized last year at the same time as the World Young Horse Championships in Verden
For 2014 the date was pushed forward to May and the event was able to attract a huge field of riders with action non-stop in the main show arena
the main ring beautiful and serene with top footing
There are two 20 x 60 m warm up rings with excellent footing
The runner up in the Grand Prix was Swedish Jennie Larsson on the 10-year old Dutch bred Zircoon Spring Flower (by Painted Black x Armstrong)
They posted a score of 70.760% and left French based Belgian Grand Prix rider Laurence Vanommeslaghe behind them
Laurence is a newcomer on the Belgian A-team and has proven her A-status in Kapellen by scoring 69.420% on the chestnut Hanoverian Avec Plaisir
The combination stood out with its very accurate riding and a lovely
Finnish routinier Terhi Stegars and her 15-year old Trakehner stallion Axis (by Sixtus x Angard) were fourth with 68.380%
She had newly engaged Belgian Grand Prix rider Julie de Deken right on her heels with 68.060%
De Deken and her Hessian stallion Lucky Dance (by Lucky Lionell) showed massive improvement in the top line
with a lighter contact and more supple stretch in the frame
the piaffe still a bit forward and could have been more settled

In Antwerp an examining magistrate has arrested a suspect in connection with an attempted burglary at footballer Toby Alderweireld’s
thieves tried to break into the footballer's villa in Kapellen (Antwerp Province) while he was due to play with FC Antwerp
the two burglars fell into Alderweireld's swimming pool and during the subsequent police chase crashed their car
The Antwerp public prosecutor's office is attempting to track down several suspects involved in the attempted break-in
Several burglars were recorded on CCTV footage at the former Spurs player’s home
The thieves wanted to break into Alderweireld's villa in Kapellen while the footballer was playing for Antwerp
Alderweireld purchased a Dobermann guard dog named Darco
Presumably its presence deterred the thieves
two burglars fell into the footballer's swimming pool
Police were also able to chase the burglars during their getaway until their car crashed
He has now been formally arrested by an examining judge
I photograph objects found in people's basements
A surprising collection of prosthetic devices
Through these kept items a portrait of an era emerges
everyday objects as a capsule of time of society
remnants of social aspiration and technological development
and yet we all somehow share an emotional connection
as we evolve further into our throwaway society
'98 objects found in my mother-in-law's-basement' offers an almost forensic photographic record of an era
By isolating the objects away from the basement and its clutter
Claude Lévi-Strauss is validated: ’Objects are what matter
Only they carry the evidence that throughout the centuries
something really happened among human beings'
The project originally started out in the basement of my mother-in-law and expanded from there (hence the title)
Images of 450 objects from over 20 basements (at various locations in Belgium) are available
The Belgian FEI Dresage team pony Don't Dream WE has been sold to a new rider
Don't Dream is a 13-year old Weser Ems bred gelding by Don't Worry out of Daria (by Dressman)
The bright bay Don't Dream WE was originally owned by Marc Idelmann
He was approved for breeding at the 2010 ZvDP/Sachsen-Thuringen Stallion Licensing in Lentföhrden
Don't Dream WE was only competed lightly in Germany
In 2010 Wenke Kraus rode him at the Bundeschampionate in Warendorf
but they finished last (20th) in the 3-year old stallion class with 6.75
In 2011 he showed only twice: once under Kirstin Klepin and three months later by Lara Idelmann
Initially Louise Mourlon Beernaert took on the ride and she made her CDI debut on the stallion at the 2013 CDI Saumur
The pair competed consistently at internationals in Moorsele
and Kapellen but the results were mixed as the pony was often a handful as a stallion
In 2014 Louise and Don't Dream went to Nieuw en St
Clara and Don't Dream at the 2017 European Pony Championships in Kaposvar (Photo © L.Kowalski)In 2015 younger sister Clara took over the ride and the pair also needed time to grow together
and their efforts finally started to pay off in 2017 after the pony was gelded
Clara and Don't Dream WE found their groove and were selected on the Belgium team for the 2017 European Pony Championships in Kaposvar
where they finished 12th in the Kur to Music finals
They won the 2017 Belgian Pony Championships
Diepenbeek and Leudelange and won bronze at the 2018 Belgian Pony Championships
The Europeans was Don't Dream's last international start as Clara moved to junior level in 2019
The new owner and rider of Don't Dream is Belgian Emilie Herweyers. Don't Dream was listed for sale on Eurodressage's Equimarket and most recently stabled at Coby van Baalen's in Holland
Emilie and her schoolmaster Don't Dream at Coby van Baalen's yardThe 13-year old Stekene based Herweyers is only at the beginning of her dressage career and has sought out training with Coby and Marlies van Baalen
She also relies on Marrigje van Baalen for lessons at home
Emilie also owns the Belgian bred KWPN mare Kalegra C-Two DVB (by Negro x Charmeur) as well as the 6-year old pony mare Die Goldmarie (by Danny Gold x Naron)
"Dreamy is such a cool pony," Emilie told Eurodressage
"I train with Coby or Marlies every week with my horse
The plan is to ride Children with Kalegra next year
As soon as the borders reopen due to the corona lockdown
but the lessons at Coby's are excellent so I don't mind at all," said Emilie

the president of the FEI for the past five years
from where he has to captain international equestrian sport through the turbulent waters of the corona pandemic
Nine years ago FEI president Princess Haya asked Ingmar de Vos
then secretary-general of the Belgian Equestrian Federation
to become her wingman at the FEI in Lausanne
Haya put De Vos forward as the new FEI president
In 2014 the Belgian won the vote and he has been heading the international equestrian federation since then
A former local politician for the Belgian liberal party (VLD)
Ingmar knows the reeling and dealing as well as the lobbying that goes on in management of a corporate style sports federation
Ingmar has climbed up to the highest echelon of international sport and had a front-row seat in the discussions for the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games
This seat was his office chair from his home in Kapellen
where Ingmar has been stuck since the Belgian lockdown
For his wife Sabine it is a welcome change
he initially planned on commuting back and forth between Belgium and Switzerland
but there have been plenty of periods that her husband was stuck in Lausanne for four to five weeks in a row
Instead of spending his time on a Swiss apartment or in the FEI headquarters
Ingmar is now back with his wife and managing the FEI from the comfort of his home
"Force majeure indeed has led to me being home with my family for the past two weeks," said Ingmar
Right before the strict measurements were instated in Belgium I was here my accident and decided not to return to Switzerland
I rather do it from my house here than all by myself in my apartment in Lausanne."
Princess Haya and Ingmar de Vos in 2013One of the biggest consequences of the corona pandemic is that the entire sports calendar of 2020
The decision to wait four weeks to announce the postponement of the Olympics was curtailed to one day due to the corona rampage
"Especially when things got serious in the United States (with the corona infection) - one of the biggest sports countries in the world - the IOC decided at the start of last week to postpone the Olympics to 2021," said De Vos
For horse sport the impact on its international show calendar has been enormous
"To this date no less than 397 international horse shows have been cancelled
Now there are a bunch of organizers who are asking for their show to take place on a different date later this year
We can't allocate dates on the calendar when we don't even know yet with things will sort of turn back to normal
It is possible that this might happen faster in Europe than anywhere else
In certain parts of the world it has only just started
The FEI has set up discipline-specific task forces to evaluate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the FEI Calendar and propose recommendations to the FEI Board and the relevant Technical Committees on multiple issues
The rescheduling of events is an important part of the remit for the task forces
president of the Belgian Equestrian Federation
who launched De Vos' career in politics as well as with the KBRSF"For instance
we are reinvestigating the Olympic minimum criteria for riders and horses," said Ingmar
"What to do with riders who achieve the minimum Olympic age of 18 in 2012; or with show jumping horses the minimum age of 9 and for dressage and eventing that is 8 years old
They couldn't participate at the Games of 2020 but next year they can."
The FEI is now dealing with an avalanche of date change requests and is also facing a terrible scheduling conflict between the 2021 Olympics and European Championships
In August 2021 the European Championships for dressage and show jumping are taking place in Budapest (23 - 30 August) and in Haras du Pin in France the European Eventing Championships are organized (11 - 15 August)
This is of course way too early after the Olympics that end on 8 August
Can the European Championships change their date
Move to a date in spring would probably be too early because one also needs to achieve qualification marks for those championships
After the Games riders will be resting their Olympic horses
You can hardly expect to go full throttle at the Europeans two weeks after the Games
In Budapest the Championships take place on a race track
The Hungarian government is putting a lot of money on the table at the moment for big sport events in all disciplines
The cancellation of the shows has a major financial impact on the FEI and global organizing committees
"We are already missing 4 to 5 million euros of income due to the corona crisis and this will grow
Show organizers have to pay the FEI for calendar rights and we decided not to claim those for competitions that have been cancelled due to corona
And we'll certainly have to jump in for other matters."
Ingmar de Vos at the 2000 Olympics in SydneySince the retirement of Belgian Jacques Rogge as president of the IOC
Ingmar de Vos is the only Belgian on the frontline in the international sport world
Hardly anyone knows that Ingmar is Belgian though
It's not about Ingmar de Vos but about the sport and its athletes," Ingmar concluded
"I won't attract any youth to the sport with my age (56)
Pieter de Vos (Belgian show jumpers) and so many others: they are the stars
They have to sell themselves and the sport
I'm at the service of the sport and horse sport in particular with the hope that equestrian sport gains popularity
Let's keep Ingmar simply as his humble self."

Christmas started the day after Thanksgiving
but not with Black Friday or a rush to buy from all the stores
It began at the Door County Brewery Music Hall right here in Baileys Harbor
2- and 1-year-old children and because of those little ones
we found ourselves at the brewery taproom to see
there were lots of folks enjoying food and drinks but we were all there for Santa
The 3-year-old didn’t sit on Santa’s lap but he told Santa what he wanted for Christmas
The 2-year-old was on Santa’s lap but he wanted nothing to do with that and the 1-year-old was sleeping and didn’t see him at all
We found ourselves outside the taproom sitting around the fire pit along with some other folks who had visitors from Minnesota
Tom Kapellen who lives on Red Cherry Road in Baileys Harbor was spending time with son Matt and grandkids Thomas and Lucy who live in Minnesota
Thomas is a Packer fan as you can see in the picture
It was so enjoyable having this time and sitting around the fire just happy to be together and enjoying the company of others around us
Happiness abounds and that’s what was happening at the Door County Brewery that evening.
Congratulations to Brad and Alyssa Rasmusson on the birth of a son

Mathieu van der Poel was destined for a career in the saddle
was a professional cyclist and a multiple Dutch national champion
the renowned French cyclist Raymond Poulidor
including winning the 1964 Vuelta a España and achieving runner-up and third-place finishes multiple times in the Tour de France
Van der Poel initially started his sports career in football and was even on track to join the first-division Dutch club Willem II
he decided to follow in his father's footsteps and pursue cyclo-cross instead
The young Van der Poel made an early mark in the sport with a host of victories at the junior level
signalling his impending dominance in the sport
he signed his first professional contract with BKCP-Powerplus
He didn't take long to make an impact
becoming the youngest cyclo-cross world champion at the age of 20 in his debut season in 2015
The rising cycling star then suffered a blow
which restricted his participation in the following season
Van der Poel brushed the setback aside, making a promising return to the cyclo-cross scene in 2016, finishing fifth at the World Championship behind a triumphant Wout van Aert
Another injury and a subsequent knee surgery kept him out for the 2016-2017 season
The Flying Dutchman bounced back with aplomb during the 2017-2018 season
winning the overall ranking of the Cyclo-cross World Cup
He won 32 races and reached the podium 38 times during this season
Van der Poel has achieved several significant victories in road cycling
including winning the Amstel Gold Race in 2019
He is the first Dutch rider to become a champion in cyclo-cross
Van der Poel and Van Aert had one of the most intense rivalries in cyclo-cross history
Their battles took place at various locations
from Tábor in the Czech Republic to the sandy shores of Ostend in Belgium
The two rivals almost completely dominated the cyclo-cross world championships for nine consecutive years
the Dutch ace won his first of five cyclo-cross world titles in the Czech Republic before Van Aert dominated the event
winning the world title for three years on the trot
claiming the world cyclo-cross crown in 2019
Tom Pidcock of Great Britain upset the duo to take the spoils before Van der Poel reclaimed his title in 2023 for his fifth gold in the event
While he was a strong contender for the** Tokyo 2020 Olympics** in mountain biking
a nightmarish crash forced him to withdraw from the competition

The former Dutch FEI Dresage team pony Charina du Bois has passed away at age 16
Under Jitske Prosman the Dutch Welsh mare Charina du Bois (by Danny Gold x Idzard) competed at international FEI pony level from 2014 till 2016
The pair was a member of the Dutch B-team in 2014 and of the A-team in 2016
They won team bronze at the 2016 European Pony Championships in Vilhelmsborg

In December 2017 Charina du Bois became a schoolmaster for the then 11-year old Dutch pony rider Welmoed Smals
Prosman moved to junior level aboard Rom Vermunt's KWPN bred Gio (by Bretton Woods)
Charina du Bois was twice operated on for colic
She developed complications and got pleurisy from the anaesthesia
Unfortunately Charina succumbed to another bout of colic in the night to 12 February 2019
but despite the fact that she is incredibly string
she didn't win the battle against colic," said Prosman

The KWPN licensed breeding stallion Zhivago has been sold to Canada
Marie-Josee Proulx has acquired the 14-year old Zhivago to set up a breeding programme at her yard Canadream Farm in Ottawa
Zhivago is a 2004 born KWPN stallion by Krack C out of Orendy (by Jazz)
and was owned by Joop van Uytert in partnership with De Radstake
Zhivago was the reserve champion of the 2007 KWPN Stallion Licensing
the year that the international Grand Prix horse Blue Hors Zack was named Licensing Champion
He also became the winner of the 2007 KWPN Autumn Stallion performance testing
Edward Gal briefly rode Zhivago at the start
but in the winter of 2009 Zhivago moved to Theo Hanzon
who took over the ride and brought him to Intermediaire II level
The pair won the 2010 and 2011 KWPN Stallion Competition and 2009 Pavo Cup Finals
They represented the KWPN breed at the 2010 World Young Horse Championships in Verden
John Tijssen rode the stallion briefly and then there was Dinja van Liere who competed him in his only international CDI at small tour level in Ermelo during the 2016 World Young Horse Championships
Although Zhivago impressed and scored as a talented young dressage stallion
he did not make a break through at FEI level
Zhivago has now been sold and will continue his breeding career in Canada
At the 2022 KWPN Stallion Licensing in Ermelo
Dream Boy and Charmeur were proclaimed Keur stallion
A licensed stallion can be proclaimed "Keur" when his first crop of offspring has reached the age of seven or older
The Keur predicate is awarded to stallions that stand out in sport and pass on their confirmation to offspring
This year three stallions were named Keur: Bretton Woods
Dream Boy (by Vivaldi x Ferro) competed at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo under Hans Peter Minderhoud
He is ranked 10th on the FEI World Ranking
He has several offspring competing at Grand Prix level and small tour
Bretton Woods (by Johnson x De Niro) stood out as a youngster under Emmelie Scholtens
finishing second in the Pavo Cup and winning bronze at the World Young Horse Championships
He sold to Ann-Kathrin Linsenhoff in Germany and was briefly competed by Matthias Rath at international small tour level
His offspring at Grand Prix level include Great Lady TC and Golden Dancer de la Fazenda
Canadian stallion keeper Proulx has more reason to celebrate as a second KWPN stallion of hers got decorated with the highest predicate
Wynton at the 2013 CDIO RotterdamThe preferent title is awarded to stallion who improves his offspring in movement and conformation
The offspring needs to be at least 11 years of age or older and have a sport index higher than 140 (with a reliability of 85%)
For the preferent predicate it is important that a stallion especially improves the male offspring
Wynton (by Jazz x Matador) won the 2008 Pavo Cup Finals
and competed at the 2008 and 2009 World Young Horse Championships in Verden
Madeleine Witte-Vrees took him to international Grand Prix level
He was retired from sport due to an injury and sold to Canada in 2018
"Wynton was first awarded the Keur predicate in 2018 before I purchased him and 4 years later he receives the highest honor he could possibly get
Wynton is the sixth dressage bred Preferent KWPN sire still alive today
Anna Zibrandtsen's Under 25 Grand Prix horse Rentino has been sold to Sweden as a schoolmaster for sisters Matilda and Ellen Stymne
Rentino is a 16-year old Hanoverian by Rosario out of Diva (by De Niro x Walt Disney x Akzent I)
Purchased by the Bergstrom-Kallstrom family as a foal at the Hanoverian auction
the black colt moved to Sweden and became co-owned by Kan Brink as a youngster
He was first competed in 2008 as a 4-year old by Sara Henriette Bergstrom-Kallstrom
That same year Rentino was licensed for the Swedish warmblood society and did his performance test
He only bred one year in Sweden with 6 offspring registered born in 2009
In 2011 the pair finished 11th at the Swedish Championships for 7-year olds in Helsingborg
Between 2012 and 2013 Brink moved the stallion up from small tour to Grand Prix with a few competition starts
In 2014 Rentino sold to Zibrandtsen's yard Bregnerødgaard in Denmark
who has been a long-time student of Jan Brink
acquired him as her Under 25 mount to make the transition from Young Riders to Grand Prix
The pair made its national show debut in Denmark in April 2014 and one month later did their first international at the CDI Kapellen in Belgium
Anna competed the black just three seasons
They represented Sweden at the inaugural European Under 25 Championships in Hagen in 2016
where they were 8th in the Kur to Music finals
Their last show together was the 2016 CDI Falsterbo
In 2017 Rentino was briefly ridden by Diederik van Silfhout
who competed the stallion at the Dutch Dressage Championships
Then the horse disappeared from the show scene for two years
to return to the show ring in 2019 under Portuguese Frederico Mexia de Almeida
The pair competed in five national shows in Denmark that season
Rentino has now been sold as a schoolmaster for young rider Matilda and junior rider Ellen Stymne
Ellen has previously competed at national FEI pony level with the 10-year old Westfalian pony Tanzbar T (by Timberland x Golden Dancer)
Matilda has been riding the KWPN bred Grand Prix horse Crescendo (by Tolando x Cocktail)
which her family bought from Katja Gevers in 2019
"It would be super fun to compete internationally
but first we have to get to know each other and do some national shows," Matilda told Eurodressage about her brand new partnership with Rentino
With the opening of the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale comes a look at the first ever contribution by the Holy See
an exhibition that brings together architects to design chapels that
can be relocated to sites around the globe
Located in a wooded area on the Venetian island of San Giorgio Maggiore, 10 chapels by architects including Norman Foster, Eduardo Souto de Moura, and Smiljan Radic
are joined by the Asplund Chapel by MAP Architects
This 11th structure serves as a prelude to the other chapels
while reflecting on Gunnar Asplund's 1920 design for the Woodland Chapel
Below, we present new photographs of the 11 completed structures comprising the first Holy See Pavilion.

Rath and Totilas’ score easily topped the class over Sweden’s Jennie Larsson on Zircoon Spring Flower (70.76%)
The stallion displayed the extravagant extended trot and metronomic passage that initially made him famous with the Netherlands’ Edward Gal
His extended walk showed great relaxation and reach.
Judge Geert Lemmens awarded the horse the lowest score of the panel, a 73.70 percent, while Irina McNamee scored him an 82.90 percent as the highest mark. Rath, 29, also topped today’s Prix St. Georges aboard Bretton Woods. See the full scores on the Kapellen website.

Belgium has been on the front line in Europe’s war against drugs
Officials have said more than 100 of Europe’s most dangerous criminal networks operate in Belgium
with drug gangs blamed for a rise in street shootings in Brussels
The convictions resulted from the earlier takedown by law enforcement authorities of the Sky ECC encrypted messaging service that had been widely used by drugs traffickers
“More than 100 people were convicted today during a massive drug trafficking trial in Brussels,” said the Belgian federal police
119 people were sentenced to prison terms ranging between 14 months and 17 years
The biggest sentence was handed out to an Algerian identified by the authorities as Abdelwahab Guerni
An Albanian called Eridan Munoz-Guerrero was convicted to 14 years in prison
“This marks a real turning point in the battle against organised crime and against criminality related to drugs,” said Belgian Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden
The Sky ECC encrypted messaging service was cracked by the U.S
Federal Bureau of Investigation and Australian and European law enforcement agencies in 2021
Europol said at the time that the operation “provided invaluable insights into hundreds of millions of messages exchanged between criminals”

Where to find tulip fields in Germany this springBookmarkBookmarkBy Olivia LoganMar 16, 2025Tulip fields in Germany can’t quite hold a candle to the likes of the world-famous Keukenhof or other similar spots in the Netherlands
but they are still worth a visit if you’re looking to fill a spring day with colour
Tulip bloom comes in three different stages in Germany
depending on the flower species: the early tulip species
which flower in March; the mid-spring species
which flower in early May; and the late tulips
The specific names of these tulips are so excellent they are worth mentioning individually
followed by the camply-named Purple Prince and Baby Queen species
orange and yellow Triumph and Darwin Hybrid tulips follow in May
It is easy to locate flower picking fields across Germany by googling “Blumen selbst schneiden” ("cut flowers yourself") or “Blumen selbst pflücken” ("pick flowers yourself")
but it can be harder to track down fields rowed with tulips specifically
Here are some fields we can recommend for a stroll
you will have to leave the plants in peace; in others you are welcome to pay to pick a bunch and take them home

Around 40 minutes from Cologne and Düsseldorf lies one of Germany’s most popular tulip fields
Visitors to Tulpenhof Francken can walk through the fields
visitors have been limited to looking at the tulips from the field perimeter
after guests repeatedly caused significant damage to the flowers
Tulpenhof Francken says that photo shoots and other similar activities are expressly forbidden on the fields
The nearest train station to Tulpenhof Francken is Kapellen-Wevelinghoven
from which a 20-minute walk will take you to the field on Talstraße
This field isn't commercial in the sense that there are no shops and staff on site
but you can pick your own flowers and pay for them
Flower farms like Berges tulip field operate on an honour system
Visitors should be careful while walking among the plants and pay fairly for whatever they pick
You will usually find an unstaffed payment point at the edge of the field where you can pay in cash
Prices can vary between 50 cents and three euros per tulip

this island sits in Germany’s largest lake
Flower Island is home to a dahlia garden and tropical fern garden
but its tulip garden along Frühlingsallee (Spring Alley) is the highlight and a previous winner of the World Tulip Award
From the end of March to the beginning of April
450 tulip species turn the banks of Flühlingsallee into a kaleidoscope of colours
A top tip: you don’t even have to venture beyond the boundaries of the largest German city to enjoy everything tulip season has to offer. Head to Britzer Garten in southeastern Berlin
where over 100.000 tulips bloom every year
True tulip enthusiasts can also take part in a tulip tour
to learn about the flower’s history in the Middle East
“tulip mania” of 1637 and the different species
By mid-March, when the tulip bulbs spurt their green heads through the earth, you can check the Blütenbarometer (bloom barometer) on Britzer Garten’s website to see if the fields have bloomed ahead of your visit
Tulip fields can be elusive. Have you spotted an excellent spot while driving through the countryside and think it's worth a mention in our list
