“MOL”) announced today that the two companies have entered into a shareholders agreement to jointly establish a new company
and retire*2 nature-based carbon removal credits.*3
will operate under the philosophy: “Open the way to a sustainable future through the power of people and forests.” The company aims to contribute to global environmental preservation and sustainable societal development through the creation
and proxy retirement of nature-based carbon removal credits
it plans to establish new forests covering 10,000 hectares in India
aiming to start handling carbon credits from 2028 onwards
The acceleration of the global movement toward decarbonization in recent years
along with intensified efforts at the corporate and national level
has put the spotlight on nature-based carbon removal credits based on methods that directly remove CO2 from the atmosphere (“carbon removal credits”)
which utilize carbon sequestration by new afforestation and carbon capture and storage technologies such as carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS)
is expected to further expand in the future as an indispensable tool for achieving the “net zero” goal
which is difficult to achieve by emission reductions alone
nature-based carbon removal credits not only absorb CO2
These approaches make it possible to simultaneously combat climate change and protect the natural environment
contributing to nature revitalization.
Marubeni and MOL will create and supply nature-based carbon removal credits through this project to strengthen initiatives to realize a decarbonized society and contribute to global environmental conservation and the development of a sustainable society
・ Marubeni’s initiatives toward decarbonizationMarubeni formulated its long-term vision for climate change in March 2021
and in its Mid-term Management Strategy “GC2024”
it has positioned its green strategy as one of its basic policies for enhancing corporate value
The company is focusing on renewable energy
new energy businesses such as hydrogen and ammonia
and sustainable forest management projects in Indonesia and Australia for CO2 sequestration and biodiversity conservation
Marubeni is also generating and trading carbon credits through GHG reduction activities and support in collaboration with businesses in Japan and overseas
Marubeni aims to contribute to decarbonization and realize a sustainable society
The two companies will strive to create a bright future by harnessing the power of forests and combining their respective strengths
*2 “Retire” refers to the process of cancelling carbon credit rights on behalf of customers
*3 Nature-based carbon removal credits are carbon credits based on the direct removal of CO2 from the atmosphere through the use of natural ecosystems

Edward Burns made quite the impression after winning the Best Picture prize at the Sundance Film Festival with his 1995 masterpiece THE BROTHERS MCMULLEN

The plot synopsis for the film was "Three Irish Catholic brothers from Long Island struggle to deal with love

I'm not here to say that Edward Burns is a one-trick pony or that MILLERS IN MARRIAGE is recycled and tired
The cast is impeccable and the narrative kept me interested
even when I thought some plot points were a bit contrived or predictable
Burns crafts characters that we want to care about
Burns' gift of character and dialogue is that we are drawn into the maw of the devouring devils of his narratives.
fresh off a separation from his wife Tina (Morena Baccarin) and now dating one of her former colleagues Renee (Minnie Driver)
Maggie is an active novelist married to inert novelist Nick (Campbell Scott)

Benjamin Bratt plays a journalist writing about the 90s rock scene vying to talk with either Scott or Eve about their experiences
and Brian D'arcy James rounds out the cast as a groundskeeper in the New York state hamlet where they all escape the bustle of The City
Each of these characters has their charms and their demons
who is given one screeching note of distaste that he blows every moment he is onscreen
as even the novelists throw around profanities when their ire is rankled
giving an authenticity to the struggles onscreen
While their lifestyle may appear beyond the average viewer
the emotional highs and lows they must traverse ring as universal
I was able to speak with Juliana Margulies ("The Good Wife," "ER") and Gretchen Mol ("Boardwalk Empire," THE LAST TIME I COMMITTED SUICIDE) about joining the cast and making a story about artistic elites accessible to the average viewer

Hungarian oil and gas company MOL and Turkish peer TPAO are partnering on hydrocarbon exploration and production in the west of Hungary
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said after a meeting with Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar in Budapest
Szijjarto said the partners had established a joint venture for the purpose and signed two concession contracts in southern Hungary (Tamasi and Buzsak)
TPAO will invest around HUF6bn (€15mn) there
MOL and TPAO have worked together for a decade already
operating a gas field in Russia and establishing long-term cooperation in Azerbaijan
Szijjarto acknowledged Turkey's role in ensuring Hungary's secure energy supply and said gas volume delivered through the TurkStream pipeline was close to 2.5bcm in 2025
roughly 30% of the country's gas needs. He added that the pipeline had put Hungary's gas supply on sure footing
allowing the continuation of the regulated utilities price scheme for households
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar called the agreement a "milestone" in a long-standing energy partnership between the two countries
The collaboration is expected to extend beyond Hungary to third countries
"Both Turkey and Hungary face similar challenges as import-dependent countries," Bayraktar said
pointing to recent European power outages as a reminder of the urgency of energy security
Turkey's first gas export to a non-neighbouring country was based on an agreement signed in 2023 and finalised in February 2024 between Turkish state oil and gas company BOTAS and Hungarian utility giant MVM
In a separate statement, MOL said that the sides had signed an MoU in October 2024 on cooperating in upstream activities in the Caspian Sea region
the Middle East and Central and Eastern Europe
The concession contracts were signed by MOL chairman-CEO Zsolt Hernadi and his counterpart at TPAO
MOL remains the dominant force in the country’s hydrocarbon sector
accounting for 47% of domestic crude oil production and nearly 90% of natural gas output in 2024
Operating some 1,300 production wells across Hungary
the company delivered almost 600,000 tonnes of crude and 1.5bn cubic metres of gas last year
Hungary continues to serve as MOL’s most important upstream base
representing roughly 39% of the group’s total production
Recent exploration successes has pushed its local production to a five-year high
MOL has drilled 24 successful shallow gas wells in recent years and expanded its footprint in eastern Hungary through acquisitions covering a 1,000-sq km area with 29 producing wells and further exploration potential
the group maintains exploration and production assets in nine countries and is active in eight
Average daily production reached 93,800 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) in 2024
As part of its push to deepen its international footprint
MOL has signed cooperation agreements with national oil companies in Kazakhstan (KazMunayGas)
Turkey’s Calik Holding has recently signed the contract with state-owned energy group MVM on the construction of a 1,000-MW combined cycle gas-fired power plant (CCGT) in northeastern Hungary from a HUF500bn investment partnering with Italy’s Ansaldo Energia in the consortium
The plant will generate 7,500 GWh of energy a year when it is completed in three to three-and-a-half years
Energy Minister Csaba Lantos hailed the project as a step toward reducing Hungary’s energy dependence
Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced two years ago that Hungary would build three CCGTs with a total 1,650-MW capacity to meet the rising energy demands of new industrial sites and to provide reliable backup energy sources
will be constructed at the MVM Tisza Power Plant in Tiszaujvaros in northeastern Hungary
The third power plant will be built by a consortium led by Status KPRIA, a company owned by Lorinc Meszaros for a €14.7mn
The other members include Hungarian-owned WHB and Egyptian-based Elsewedy Electric for Power System
The new facility will be located adjacent to Matrai Eromu
Hungary's largest lignite-fuelled power plant and second-largest electricity generator

Gretchen Mol and Campbell Scott in a reading of “Love Letters” at the Sharon Playhouse
The Sharon Playhouse held a one night showing of the play “Love Letters” by A.R
though only partially attended due to the weather
performance was held in the Bok Gallery and starred Gretchen Mol and Campbell Scott
meaning the story is conveyed through the letters exchanged between the two main characters: Melissa Gardener
The play begins at childhood and lasts until the characters are about sixty years old
With the performers reading letters back and forth
the staging is minimal—intimate lighting casts a warm glow over the two actors seated at a single table
where they remain for the entire performance
The Bok Gallery’s cozy setting enhances the play’s simplicity
making for an intimate and engaging experience
Perhaps the most striking aspect of “Love Letters” is its pacing and flow
which Mol and Scott brought out fantastically
the actors simply trade lines back and forth as they read their letters
This back and forth is broken up through occasional bits of quick
long monologues and gut wrenching silence as
a character goes five or six letters without writing back
This difference in pacing is extremely effective
and ensures that the audience does not feel any sort of stagnation
Of course this pacing methodology would mean nothing if not brought out and explored by the performers
who both tackled their respective roles with gusto
is a very highly spirited individual who is often finding herself in trouble and living loose
is an English major who is quickly established as a bit more rigid and only able to accurately speak his mind through writing
As their lives develop and life’s many joys and tragedies hit them through the years
both performers brought out their personality shifts and outbursts wonderfully while ensuring they remained true to their original selves
Although Gardener finds herself weary and lost as her art career fades and addiction rears its ugly head
Mol preserves a hint of the character’s former free-spirited playfulness in her letters
Scott balanced Ladd’s rigid and stiff demeanor with moments of openness in some of Ladd’s longer and more heartfelt letters
“Love Letters” at the Sharon Playhouse was a one night only performance
is slated for performance at the Playhouse August 29 to Sept 7

While this allows MOL to avoid sanctions imposed by Ukraine on the Russian oil producer
it undermines Europe’s collective action against Russia’s aggression in Ukraine
The European Union and Ukraine must act decisively to prevent such flagrant violations of the spirit of the sanctions regime
bringing approximately $6 billion to Russia’s war chest
which will make more seaborne oil supplies available to the landlocked country
exceeding the annual needs of MOL’s refineries in Hungary and Slovakia
as Moscow continues its military aggression against Ukraine and poses a threat to the NATO alliance
Allowing individual member states to circumvent the spirit of sanctions could play into Russia’s strategy to weaken EU solidarity
in line with the Kremlin’s historical “divide and conquer” tactics to exploit intra-European divisions
The EU’s sanctions aim to diminish Russia’s ability to finance its military operations
Hungary’s disinterest in developing alternative supplies—creating a workaround to continue importing Russian oil instead—undermines these collective efforts
it is crucial for the European Commission to reassess the current sanctions on Russian pipeline oil
Closing loopholes that permit Hungary and Slovakia to continue importing Russian oil is essential for maintaining the integrity of the EU’s sanctions regime and the unity of its members
Implementing mandatory changes over a six-to-nine-month period would allow affected countries reasonable time to secure alternative supplies through existing infrastructure
Hungary’s actions present a critical test for EU unity and the effectiveness of its sanctions regime
Hungary risks undermining not only the collective response to Russia’s aggression
but also the foundational principles of EU solidarity
The situation highlights the delicate balance that the EU must strike between respecting individual member states’ interests and upholding collective commitments to international security
A decisive response from the European Commission by cancelling exemptions for Russian pipeline oil would reinforce the EU’s dedication to solidarity and its resolve in confronting global challenges
Failure to act now could not only weaken the effectiveness of sanctions against Russia—it risks setting a concerning precedent for EU unity in future crises

These STS transfer trials were part of a GCMD-led initiative in collaboration with Partners to enable ammonia as a marine fuel
The consortium conducted risks and safety studies and develop emergency response procedures for the transfers based on the findings and recommendation from GCMD's 2023 safety study on piloting ammonia bunkering and its plans for actual operations
GCMD said: "Translating the recommendations from our 2023 safety study into action through this pair of STS transfers demonstrates the essence of GCMD - operationalising pilots and trials to accelerate maritime decarbonisation
We are deeply grateful to all our partners for their support
without which this pioneering effort would not have been possible
This pilot marks a crucial step towards preparing the ecosystem for the use of ammonia as a marine fuel
paving the way for eventual bunkering when ammonia-fueled vessels become available."
Senior Vice president and Commercial Head of YCA said: "International shipping account for approximately 3% of the global GHG-emissions and we see clean ammonia as the zero-emission fuel to decarbonize the shipping industry and meet the IMO targets
For more than a century we have been producing and shipping ammonia with the highest safety standards and with efficient ammonia operations
Collaboration on safety is innate to our thinking and we are grateful to all partners contributing to the successful completion of this ammonia STS trial
The successful ship-to-ship transfer of ammonia is a critical learning step forward in enabling ammonia bunkering operations in a port environment as global shipping moves to effective use of clean ammonia as a fuel
Senior Managing Executive Officer of MOL said: "As one of the major shipping companies operating about 880 vessels
we are very proud to be part of this Ammonia STS trial which will bring a significant progress in the Ammonia Bunkering
This will be a great example of a collaboration between cargo owners

We appreciate the collaborative organizing and planning by GCMD and Yara Group as well as the partners involved for the success of this trial
saying Croatia had failed to invest in capacity building and questioned the published maximum capacity of the pipeline
Croatia dismissed as "deeply offensive" the suggestion it was not a reliable supplier."It isn't politicians but the management of MOL that decides where to buy oil from," Hernadi said."If we decided to halt (Russian oil) supply from Druzhba..
Hungary would be left with only one route of supply (Adria pipeline)
Which gives more security (of supply)?"Hungary receives 2 million metric tons of oil from the Russian group annually
around a third of its total oil imports.Slovakia's Slovnaft refinery
which is owned by Hungarian oil and gas group MOL
was expected to receive 40% less oil for processing than needed
the Slovakian government said earlier in July. When asked about the possibility of fuel shortages by September if the issue is not resolved
and assured the audience that "until they (MOL) don't ring the bells there is nothing to worry about."Reporting by Boldizsar Gyori; Editing by Conor Humphries

- Enhancing Maintenance Quality through Big Data Utilization -
TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Takeshi Hashimoto) released an application called "Fouling Analysis" as part of the big data utilization project "FOCUS"
This application uses big data to analyze in detail the state and causes of marine biofouling (fouling) on the underwater surfaces of ships and proposes optimal maintenance (such as hull cleaning during operation and painting work during docking)
it significantly reduces unnecessary fuel consumption caused by propulsion performance degradation due to biofouling
contributing to the reduction of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
In "Fouling Analysis," the state and cause of fouling are analyzed using sensor data collected at intervals of several minutes and voyage data recorded daily since the ship's delivery
it is possible to monitor the degradation of propulsion performance from the time of ship's delivery to the present
By displaying the docking periods in bands
color-coding based on phytoplankton concentration
and considering the type of paint and the amount of speed deterioration
it is possible to analyze the causes of performance degradation and evaluate antifouling paints
Based on the accumulated data and analysis results
selection of the best antifouling paint according to the ship's operation
and high-quality painting work can be carried out
thereby suppressing propulsion performance degradation and achieving efficient ship operation without unnecessary fuel consumption
it is possible to calculate the fouling areas and their sizes
This information is used to select the optimal paint
