Wouter Vrancken’s appointment elevates Sint Truiden’s chances of avoiding relegation from the Belgian Pro League | OneFootballGet Belgian & Dutch Football News
Sint Truiden have had a crazy week on and off the pitch. The side sacked head coach Felice Mazzu
tried and failed to get Hernan Losada to join and then went and beat Cercle Brugge 3-1 in what could be a defining moment of the relegation play-offs
they also managed to secure a new head coach in Wouter Vrancken before that game
yet as he was currently away he will only take charge on Tuesday
plus the appointment of a talented coach like Vrancken
surely now makes Sint Truiden the favourites to finish top of the four team group and avoid relegation
Vrancken may not have been as successful as he would have liked with Gent
but he did almost win the league with Genk and was highly rated during his time at Mechelen
and there are plenty of players in the side that he can use to play entertaining football
Vrancken’s first game in charge will be away to Cercle Brugge
The home victory means that the side will remain top of the table with a draw
Having already faced Sint Truiden a number of times while at Gent
Vrancken will also be familiar with the side
so any settling in period should not take too long
Following the sides 3-0 home defeat to Kortrijk just over a week ago now
everything looked to be falling apart at the club
with an important three points secured and a top manager about to take over
things are suddenly looking much better for the Canaries

Stal Gravenhof in Sint-Truiden (BEL) has been host to the CDI Sint-Truiden
a small one-ring international which provides a familiar atmosphere and early date on the outdoor season calendar
Sint-Truiden is known for its low-key environment
making the show a magnet for horses and riders with low mileage from pony level to Grand Prix
The owners of the stable spare no effort to provide good catering throughout the weekend
The 2025 edition took place during Easter weekend and while the numbers of entries was slightly lower compared to last year (an Olympic year is always busier and the CDI Tolbert the week before snagged entries) the programme still had classes running from 9 AM in the morning till 8 PM
Eurodressage skipped Thursday as annoying rain showers spoiled the party
but Friday and Saturday it was full sunshine and spring was certainly in the air
The show is set in the middle of the apple and pear orchards in the renowned Haspengauw fruit district

Adriano Bertaccini: The Sint Truiden striker who can’t stop scoring | OneFootballGet Belgian & Dutch Football News
After 11 goals in 18 games for RFC Liege in the Belgian second tier, Sint Truiden snapped up Adriano Bertaccini in January
Many felt that this would be an ideal partnership between the player and the club under then head coach Thorsten Fink
the German felt that the striker was not ready to be a major part of his side
given the way that Fink’s team were set up in terms of pressing and moving the ball
Fink wanted to be patient with the forward
Bertaccini scored four times but struggled to force his way into Fink’s starting XI
Fast forward a few months, Fink has since gone and Felice Mazzu has taken over. Bertaccini is now the main man for the Canaries. After a brace against Westerlo on Saturday night
the striker has scored an impressive five goals in just three games
propelling the 24-year-old to top scorer in the Pro League for now
The former Belgian youth international has spent most of his time in the lower reaches of Belgian football
but last season was a real breakout year in the second tier for Bertaccini
he is starting to show what he can do at the top level
– Tuesday
Yet he could have even more goals to his name
The striker’s excellent movement means he is able to find himself in positions to score more often than not
and with some improved efficiency he could really start to challenge for the top scoring title this season
His work rate will endear him to any fanbase
and it is clear he is quickly becoming a fan favourite amongst the Sint Truiden faithful
Bertaccini channels this energy into constantly harassing defenders and playing off the shoulder
he celebrates every goal like he has never scored one before
Mazzu has led a mini revival at a Sint Truiden side who looked dead and buried after a humiliating defeat to Antwerp in August
They have now lost just once in nine games
while upfront he has the likes of Bertaccini finding the net regularly
It should not be long before the Canaries are starting to build a gap to the relegation places
The Tesla Owners Club of Belgium and the Netherlands broke the world record for the largest simultaneous light and drone show in Sint-Truiden (Limburg) on Sunday evening. Some 1,150 enthusiasts of the car brand, gathered on the runway of Droneport in Sint-Truiden. Three cyber-trucks also participated in the world record attempt.
The annual event brings Tesla owners from across Europe together for a light and drone show. All Tesla owners from across the continent of Europe are welcome, but those with a Model S or X could only participate if the Tesla was produced after 2022.
This year, the organisers were aiming for a world record and that was an attempt that met with success. Some 1,150 Teslas had registered for the event at the Droneport airstrip in Sint-Truiden.
‘Each car participating in the light show was given a unique USB stick, so that the car knows perfectly when which lights should be on,’ co-organiser Sven van Passel of Electrify Europe explains. ‘In that way you get a synchronised light and drone show, a real spectacle in other words. The show was created by renowned light artist Simon Pollock.’
Tesla also arranged for 3 cyber-trucks to participate in the world record.
The previous world record was set in South Korea. 952 Teslas gathered for a light show. The European record was held by Finland, where 902 Teslas took part.

Westerlo is playing home against St.Truiden at Het Kuipje on Sat
The latter are all but mathematically down
but will be able to play spoiler against the other three teams
Cercle had the hardest game on paper against a top six side in Anderlecht
They fell behind early and could never quite get the equaliser
despite the fact that if they had managed to secure a point they would have swapped places with Dender and been guaranteed to play Pro League football next season
and faced an OH Leuven side who would have switched places with them if they had managed to do so
they fell behind to a fantastic strike from Siebe Schrijvers and ended up losing 3-2
They will certainly be frustrated with some of the decisions that went against them
with the deciding penalty being quite a controversial decision
by that point they had already been down to 10 men for 20 or so minutes after Rein Van Helden was sent off
The bottom four now looks like this. Cercle Brugge are ‘top’ of the mini league with a one point advantage over Sint Truiden
They then have a gap of five points to Kortrijk
who kept their slim hopes of survival alive with a win over top six side Gent
Finishing first in the mini group means survival
while finishing second would see that side face off against the side who win the second tier’s play off system

Aiming to continue their formidable home record from last season, Anderlecht will welcome Sint-Truiden to Lotto Park for an opening-weekend clash in the Belgian Pro League
The Purple & White will be thriving to compete for the league title once again this term
whilst De Kanaries could make an unlikely push for a European spot
Following a disastrous 11th-placed finish during the 2022-23 campaign
Anderlecht returned to the conversation in the upper echelons of the Belgian Pro League last season
but Saturday's hosts were unable to lift their first league crown after seven years off the top of the podium
The Purple & White ended up finishing third in the top-flight standings
three points behind Union SG in second and four points behind title holders Club Brugge
meaning that the 34-time champions will be featuring in the qualifying stages of the Europa League later in the year
Before any attention turns to an imminent continental adventure
Anderlecht must focus on replicating their exceptional home form in the Pro League from last season
with the Belgian giants boasting the best home record in the division
winning 15 and losing only two of their 20 fixtures at Lotto Park
Taking the reins of a club in the midst of a full-blown crisis in December 2022, Brian Riemer has steadied the Purple & White ship as they look to challenge for the Pro League crown this term
with the former Brentford assistant coach winning 34 of his 67 matches in charge so far
As well as in the managerial hotseat, there is also a large Danish influence at the top end of the pitch for Anderlecht, with compatriots Anders Dreyer (19) and Kasper Dolberg (15) bagging 34 Pro League goals between them last season
representing one of the division's deadliest forward lines
Sint-Truiden will be celebrating a decade of Pro League football this season following their title-winning campaign of 2014-15 in the Challenger League
with Saturday's visitors experiencing little danger of losing their first-tier spot during the 2023-24 edition
11 points clear of 13th-placed Sporting Charleroi
with Sint-Truiden eventually finishing ninth in the Pro League overall at the conclusion of the 40-match term
15 points behind Gent in the Conference League playoff spot
Christian Lattanzio will realise that his side needs to improve their less-than-inspiring away form should they wish to fight for a spot on the continental stage this campaign
with Sint-Truiden tasting victory in just three of their 20 away Pro League fixtures during 2023-24
Unlike Anderlecht, De Kanaries have lost the services of their talismanic striker ahead of the new campaign and season opener on the weekend, with Mauritania international Aboubakary Koita moving to Greek giants AEK Athens after bagging 15 goals in the Belgian top flight last term
Sint-Truiden have fared woefully during away trips to Anderlecht in recent years, with De Kanaries in the midst of an eight-game losing streak at Lotto Park, with their most recent match at the venue ending in a 4-1 defeat, despite a Jarne Steuckers strike handing the visitors an early lead back in February
Anderlecht are without the services of Marco Kana for the first match of the season
with the 21-year-old midfielder still recovering from an injury sustained in May
The Purple & White are unable to call upon the talents of Thorgan Hazard
who is out until the end of the calendar year due to a cruciate ligament injury
After netting a sensational hat-trick in a pre-season thrashing of Amiens, Robbie Ure could be in line for a shock start at Lotto Park this weekend
With no major injury issues to contend with
Sint-Truiden could field an identical side to the one which lost their latest friendly against Ajax on July 9
That being said, De Kanaries have welcomed two new faces to their ranks following that clash, with centre-back Shogo Taniguchi and goalkeeper Leo Kokubo hoping for their debuts on Saturday
Anderlecht possible starting lineup:Coosemans; Patris
Sint-Truiden possible starting lineup:Coppens; Van Helden
Anderlecht were sensational on home soil last season and should be very confident of continuing that form against a Sint-Truiden outfit who struggle on the road
De Kanaries' pre-season has been impacted by a number of cancellations to recent friendlies, and we feel that could hinder their chances of success on the opening day at Lotto Park. For data analysis of the most likely results, scorelines and more for this match please click here

Both searching for their first points of the Belgian Pro League season, Sint-Truiden and Charleroi will square off at the Daio Wasabi Stayen Stadium on Saturday
The two teams both suffered narrow defeats in the opening round of fixtures of the new term last weekend and will bid to get their campaigns up and running
Sint-Truiden will play their first game of the season at the Daio Wasabi Stayen Stadium on Saturday in search of a first victory of the Belgian Pro League term
in their bid to build on last season's display in the domestic top flight
De Kanaries finished the regular season in ninth spot with 40 points from their 30 outings
seeing them begin in the Conference League playoff group on a halved tally of 20 points
four behind Gent with a single domestic European playoff tie place on the line in the second phase of the campaign
eventually third in the group and ninth overall in Belgium's top flight
having added 13 more points to their tally in 10 second-phase outings
falling six behind Mechelen and 15 behind Gent as a result
Left wounded by that defeat but with positives to take from an encouraging away display
Sint-Truiden will now look to put their first points on the board on Saturday before visiting Royal Antwerp next week
Their visitors also head into the contest in search of a first victory on Saturday
in their bid for a much-improved campaign after struggling last term
A 13th-placed finish in the 2023-24 regular season saw Charleroi drop into the relegation playoff group for the second phase of the campaign
able to take the only guaranteed survival spot in that group with a pleasing end
their safety was mathematically certain after four of the six games in the group
having gone on to pick up five victories and one draw to end on 45 points
14 points clear of the promotion/relegation playoff place and 15 above the automatic drop zone
Now setting out to enjoy a stronger campaign and avoid the threat of relegation, Rik De Mil's side began at home to Royal Antwerp on Sunday but failed to get off the mark, falling to a 1-0 defeat at the Stade du Pays de Charleroi having failed to find a leveller after Vincent Janssen put their visitors ahead inside 10 minutes
Charleroi will now travel to the Daio Wasabi Stayen Stadium on Saturday in search of a victory to get up and running and avoid immediately finding themselves at the bottom end of the table again in the coming weeks
Sint-Truiden will remain without goalkeeper Leo Kokubo and midfielders Rihito Yamamoto and Joel Chima Fujita for Saturday's trip
with the trio away on international duty at the Olympic Games with Japan
Following the summer departure of last season's top scorer Aboubakary Koita, Kahveh Zahiroleslam should again be relied upon to lead the attack, with Olivier Dumont and 18-year-old Adam Nhaili likely to join him on a front three
Charleroi are dealing with an absence of their own due to the Olympic Games, with defender Mehdi Boukamir on duty for Belgium in France
They may be unchanged from last weekend's narrow defeat to Royal Antwerp, with Mohamed Kone having arrived from Le Havre over the summer to replace the departed Herve Koffi between the sticks
Charleroi possible starting lineup:Kone; Petris
With both teams keen to get off the mark at the second time of asking in the Belgian Pro League, we anticipate a tight encounter on Saturday and cannot quite pick a winner between two sides with similar quality, instead opting for a share of the spoils. For data analysis of the most likely results, scorelines and more for this match please click here

The team consists Japanese players such as Shinji Okazaki (formerly of FC Cartagena)

Burnley are making progress in their efforts to sign Sint-Truiden defender Ameen Al-Dakhil
is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days ahead of his proposed move to Turf Moor
The centre-back has made 16 Belgian Pro League appearances for Sint-Truiden so far this season
Al-Dakhil has been capped once by the Belgium Under-21 side and previously played for their other age group sides
Burnley have not yet made any signings this transfer window, but have seen Ashley Westwood and Kevin Long depart on permanent deals
while Will Norris and Matthew Lowton have left on loan
But manager Vincent Kompany hinted earlier in the week that Burnley were looking to make additions to the squad as they look to maintain their promotion push
“I know how fragile these moments are but if everything goes to plan we might see a few arrivals,” Kompany said
“But the key thing for me is to not upset the balance of the team
“The reason (for arrivals) is we have five players on loan and that will create a gap no matter whether we are in the Premier League or the Championship and we have to anticipate a little bit on this and the winter could be a period where we could add a few players for that reason
“It’s impossible to open discussions with loan players when they’re with you
so we’ve got to plan as if everybody is going
Whether it’s the Championship or the Premier League it doesn’t really matter
“If we find the right players we will look to improve
but it’s important to take into account the bigger picture as well.”

Sint-Truiden will look to end their three-game losing streak and get their 2024-25 campaign up and running when they play host to Dender in round four of the Belgian Pro League on Saturday
who have hit the ground running in the big leagues
will journey to the Daio Wasabi Stayen Stadium seeking to make it three wins from three games and climb to the top of the standings
Sint-Truiden were left empty handed yet again as they suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat at the hands of Royal Antwerp when the two sides squared off last Sunday
Swedish forward Jacob Ondrejka grabbed the headlines at the Bosuilstadion as he scored a second-half hat-trick to inspire the hosts to their second win of the campaign, with Ryoya Ogawa getting on the scoresheet for the visitors in the 54th minute
Christian Lattanzio's men have now lost each of their first three games this season
kicking off the campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Anderlecht on July 27
one week before suffering a 4-1 home loss at the hands of Sporting Charleroi
Sint-Truiden's stuttering start to the season has been owing to their defensive vulnerability
an issue that Lattanzio will need to fix sooner rather than later
as they have shipped 11 goals already — four more than any other side in the division
turned in another impressive team display last Saturday as they cruised to a 4-1 victory over 10-man Kortrijk at the Van Roystadion
This was a second consecutive victory for Dender
who secured automatic promotion to the top Belgian flight last season after picking up 54 points from 30 games to finish second in the Challenger Pro League
Vincent Euvrard's men kicked off the campaign with a goalless draw against Union Saint-Gilloise on July 27, one week before edging out Gent 2-1 at the Planet Group Arena courtesy of goals from Jordy Soladio and Berte
Dender are currently on a run of four back-to-back competitive away wins
scoring seven goals and keeping three clean sheets since the start of March
and could move top of the table with all three points this weekend
Sint-Truiden defender Rein Van Helden was forced off injured late in the game against Antwerp last weekend and the 22-year-old is a doubt for Saturday's tie
Should he fail to shake off the injury, Zineddine Belaid should return to the XI for his third start of the season, forming the three-man defence with Bruno Godeau and Shogo Taniguchi
Isaias Delpupo recently completed a move from Serie A side Cagliari and the Argentine midfielder could be handed his debut this weekend
Meanwhile, Dender will take to the pitch without the duo of Jasper Van Oudenhove and 22-year-old Abdoulaye Yahaya
who have been ruled out through muscle injuries
Experienced forward Michael Lallemand
who scored four goals in the Challenger Pro League last season
is also recuperating from an ankle injury and will play no part in Saturday's game
Sint-Truiden possible starting lineup:Coppens; Belaid
Dender possible starting lineup:Verrips; Hrncar
Still reeling from their humiliating defeat against Antwerp
Sint-Truiden will head into the weekend looking to restore some pride and end their poor run of results
Dender have hit their stride early and we predict that they will do just enough to secure the win on Saturday

The target striker has found his way into regular playing time
While the college route has declined in importance as a development pathway
there are still several players who pursue academic studies before embarking on a professional career
talent will always take precedence for scouts and decision makers
particularly for those who can contribute on the attacking side of the game
Kahveh Zahiroleslam recently made the jump to Europe
joining Sint-Truiden after three seasons at Yale University
The 21-year-old target striker hit the ground running in Belgium and could enjoy a quick ascendency
Born in Saratoga, California and introduced to the game at the age of two by his father, Zahiroleslam competed with Prospect High School for a single season, lining up at left fullback. At the club level, he played for De Anza Force, claiming the Northwest Division of the USSDA league and finishing in sixth in the National Premier League national tournament. Coaches noted his “great frame” and movement
using his size to attract attention while opening up space for teammates
putting up nine goals and three assists in 12 matches
In his third and final fall at the collegiate level
the attacker maintained his production with six goals and two assists in 12 appearances
“I come from college football in the United States, the step to the Belgian competition is a big one,” said Zahiroleslam
I hope to get playing opportunities in the competition as soon as possible..
I can continue to build towards my best form.”
After not being able to train for a month due to work permit issues
Zahiroleslam made his first-team debut in a 3-3 draw with KRC Genk
netting the eventual game winner in a 3-0 victory over second-division side Francs Borains in the seventh round of the Belgian Cup
he has become a regular in the starting lineup
adding an assist brought about purely from hustle against KVC Westerlo; however
the club continues to search for consistent production from the striker core
De Kanaries (The Canaries) are currently at eighth in the table with 22 points from 16 matches and pushing to qualify for the next edition of the Europa Conference League
you will not have to worry about any pressure on your shoulders
I want to make a career in football and I am happy to have this opportunity..
so I still need to get a better idea of the competition
The football here is already faster and stronger.”
At the international level, Zahiroleslam is eligible to compete for the United States but has yet to receive a call-up at any level of the USMNT system. He also reportedly has an Iran passport
the dual-national attacker would be eligible to participate with the U-23 team in the upcoming Olympic Games
using his imposing frame and athleticism to rise above defenders while also employing a surprising fluidity of movement that allows for him to set-up his dominant right foot
Zahiroleslam cleared the first hurdle face by most American players moving abroad: reaching the first team and securing a spot in the rotation
He has broken into the squad and even become a regular starter in the Belgian First Division A
The next step is to establish himself as a reliable goal scorer
after which there could be interest from multiple national team programs
as a productive striker is a welcome addition to any depth chart
after seven months I was able to go to an international dressage competition again
Due to the prolonged corona lockdown and travel restrictions in Belgium and across the globe
international competition went up in smoke this winter
no Global Dressage Festival to warm your body
"Hunger is the best sauce" they say in Belgium and only the day before the kick off of the CDI Sint-Truiden on 16 April 2021 I realised I was famished
and off I went on a 50 minute drive to the south of Limburg province
Stal Gravenhof is located in the apple orchards of Haspengauw
the area where the biggest amount of apples and pears are grown
It was a chilly morning, so I put my outfit on for cold weather: woollen socks, UGGs, a recycled cashmere sweater from the clothes collection of Belgian Grand Prix rider Alexa Fairchild
I was ready to brave Siberia again for a day of shooting in early morning temperatures that felt like freezing
I mimicked an Eskimo instead of a typical glammed up social media dressage influencer with tattooed eye brows
and lips stuffer with so much filler they look like a hotdog bun
I went back into the trenches in my horse show survival outfit
Apple as treat for Morgensterns DakarStanding on your legs for eight hours non-stop after having sat on my bum in my office chair for the past half year means a big change for my body
In 2020 I turned 40 and I'm finally coming to terms with the fact that I'm no longer "the youngest" journalist/photographer in the crowd
I did my first international show as press at the age of 17
but you are much younger than I expected" for at least a decade
which always made me chuckle as they expected a 60 year old lady to run Eurodressage
Aside from a short rain shower during the lunch break before the junior riders' team test
The CDI Sint-Truiden has a small field of competitors this year with around 65 pairs competing from pony to Under 25 level
The morning started with a big pony delegation and so many newcomers I had never seen before
Whisker beard on point! The FEI steward I stood next to for the majority of the day hit the nail on the head when she said: "it looks like the horses are still plugged into the electricity." The lack of show routine for the horses and ring rust on the riders were more than apparent
either for fun or looking like a deer in headlights
Interestingly there were no tears from riders coming out of the ring; well aware that the long break from CDI showing meant setting different goals for oneself
I also noticed that fly caps are no longer checked
I was told that the FEI decided to no longer check them this year as there is too much risk for pulling off the bridle
Lots of fresh horses and ponies in Sint-TruidenThe day was finished round 17h30 so it was a short one
I drove home with my seat heating full blast so I arrived home defrosted
I was so surprised how fatiguing one day was after such a long time off
I ate some hot tomato soup and sat down on the sofa for an hour
facing only a short night sleep to be ready again for day two
On Friday I went back to the show for the Young Riders and Under 25 class as my plan was to photograph every rider at least once
Georges level and that's a big step-up from Junior M-level
Their warm-up painted quite a different picture from the day before
There was much more pulling left-right and spur jabbing on those fresh horses than the day before
My general impression of the day was that mega quality horses were to be seen
but also a huge difference in the quality of riding
who are pursuing a professional career in riding
but find it challenging or lack the skill and knowledge to bolster all that energy
came from less spectacular pairs who showed a quiet hand
better straightness in their horses and an overall more sympathetic picture
Those with their fabulous horses and ridden with the hand-brake on ended up placing higher on the board
I couldn't help but wonder: shouldn't judges reward good riding (= dressage) more than high scoring the quality of basic gaits on a not so elegantly presented horse..
The young team of runners and gate keepers are excited the show is onI totally understand that if you arrive at a show and your horse is fresher and more distracted than expected
you're in a pickle and have to make the best of the cards that were dealt that day
However it is the way you handle such situations that shows true greatness and skill in dressage riding and training
My Friday closed with the Under 25 class which had just four pair
and already eager for next week to arrive when the CDI Opglabbeek and CDI Hagen take place

Pony riders Georgina Kraft and Elin Ullmann showed power and promise in the pony division at the 2021 CDI Sint-Truiden on 16 - 18 April 2021
hosted at Stable Gravenhof in the apple orchard district of Belgium
This first outdoor international spring competition after a long lockdown from showing due to Covid-19 and EHV-1
proved to be a challenge for many ponies and kids
The energy levels of the ponies were high in the sunny but windy cold and there were plenty of distractions around the arena to put the young riders to the test
Germany's Paulina Kraft trailered two ponies to Belgium and took home two trophies
Aboard the 8-year old German riding pony stallion Daily Challenge (by Dressman I x Kaiserwalzer)
she won the team champion test on Thursday with 74.00% and the Individual test on Saturday with 73.405%
The dark bay stallion has a long show name
carrying the DSP prefix because he's a licensed breeding stallion and in addition the TI prefix to indicate the breeder and owner Tahani Ibrahim
Daily Challenge was previously ridden by Berlin based riders Melanie Gensig
and Nele Lieberknecht before Kraft took over in 2020 and brought the pony to her home base in Krefeld at the other side of the country
Elin Ullman on Morgensterns DakarKraft twice had countrymate Jona-Emily Bomberg on her heels. In her last year on ponies, Bomberg is giving it her all and has leased the German team pony routinier NK Cyrill (by Champion de Luxe x Power Boy) in the hopes of achieving a German pony team spot
The palomino proved reliability and helped her score 72.81% in the team test and 71.784% in the individual test
Swedish Elin Ullman acquired the 2020 Danish pony champion Morgensterns Dakar from Danish Tilde Rude Hare autumn last year
The 12-year old Rhinelander bred pony (by FS Don't Worry x The Breas My Mobility) was able to give his rider confidence in the 15-year old's first international competition in her life
