Those who have not already left Grindavík warned nearby eruption could be much bigger than previous 10 since 2021
The Icelandic town of Grindavík and the nearby Blue Lagoon tourist attraction have been evacuated after the area was hit by another volcanic eruption
The Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) said an “earthquake swarm” started at about 6.30am on the Sundhnúkur crater row in a similar place to previous eruptions
before erupting at 9.45am local time just north of the protective barrier near Grindavík
quickly spread southward and by 10am local time it had already reached through the defence walls north of Grindavík
By 12.35pm local time it was estimated to be 1,200 metres long
A second fissure has also opened between Grindavík’s protective barriers and the town
View image in fullscreenAn ‘earthquake swarm’ was observed near Grindavík before an eruption on Tuesday morning
This photo shows a previous eruption in November
Photograph: Marco di Marco/APDramatic video footage showed magma spewing up on the Grindavík side of the defence barrier
and it cannot be ruled out that it may continue to open further south,” the IMO said
The IMO later said it had received a report of a broken hot water pipeline in northern Grindavík
which it said “confirms that significant fault movements have occurred within the town”
Later in the afternoon it said that while volcanic activity appeared to have significantly decreased
has been largely uninhabited since 10 November 2023
when an eruption resulted in the town cracking open with fissures reaching a depth of 20 metres
Although some of the town’s 3,800 residents and some of its businesses returned
most dispersed to other parts of the country after the state bought up most of its buildings because they were uninhabitable
Regional police said they had completed the evacuation of Grindavík
with the exception of a small number of residents who refused to leave
one of Iceland’s most popular tourist attractions
said it had successfully evacuated the thermal spa

Photograph: Marco di Marco/APRunólfur Þórhallsson
urged those who had chosen not to leave the town to evacuate
saying the eruption could be much larger than recent ones because the magma tunnel is longer and a lot of magma has accumulated
The Blue Lagoon said it was temporarily closed due to the volcanic eruption and that it would provide more information as it became available
the IMO said the signals it was picking up were stronger than those recently on Sundhnúkur crater row
indicating that “a considerable amount of magma is currently on the move”
“Emergency responders in Grindavík have reported that earthquakes can be felt in the town
and signs of deformation are also visible there
suggesting that fault movements could occur within the town itself,” it added
View image in fullscreenMost residents have already left Grindavík
Photograph: Marco di Marco/APThe Icelandic tourist board said there was “no threat to the population” and that flights were operating as usual at Keflavík airport
said: “The area has been closed off and is completely closed until further notice
Gas pollution might form in isolated areas around the eruption depending on wind direction and is closely monitored.”
Valsson added: “The eruption is still developing and we will publish further information when gathered.”
Although there was an initial effect on tourist numbers after the November 2023 eruption – which the tourism board in part blamed on international reporting – numbers have since slightly increased
The number of foreign nationals coming through Keflavík airport rose by 2% to 2,261,391 in 2023-24 compared with the same period the year before
The 383,963 overnight hotel stays recorded in November 2024 were also up compared with the number in November 2023
For an outfit celebrating its 25th birthday this year
JOTA Sport has made countless memories in motorsport over the past quarter-of-a-century
On the eve of the forthcoming TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (8-10 May)
Sam Hignett reflects that victory in last year’s race was one of the standout highlights..
Hertz Team JOTA made history 12 months ago as first privateer to triumph outright in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Hypercar era
the #12 entry piloted by Will Stevens and Callum Ilott was a factor throughout
and benefitted from a red flag stoppage due to a crash with just under two hours left on the clock
JOTA had already pitted when the action was halted
whereas many of its rivals still needed to stop for fuel
enabling Ilott to take the lead four laps after the re-start
The Briton thereafter expertly fended off Porsche factory driver Kévin Estre in the closing stages to seal a famous success
it was one of our greatest wins as we didn’t have the fastest car that day
which is what won us the race,” recollected JOTA Sport founder and director
having since joined forces with American automotive giant General Motors to form Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA
Alex Lynn put the V-Series.R second on the grid at Spa last year
only for its challenge to be ended by the accident that brought out the red flag
Twice an FIA WEC class-winner in the Ardennes – in LMP2 and LMGTE Pro – the Briton is confident that the legendary Belgian circuit’s fast
flowing nature should play to the Cadillac’s strengths once again
“We know we have a lot of tracks coming up that suit our car and package,” commented Lynn
who has advanced to Hyperpole on all-bar two of the occasions that he has qualified the V-Series.R
“I think for any race driver to go to Spa is an honour and a privilege
and it’s a track where I personally have always done well
so we’ll continue to work hard and look forward to going back.”
Team-mate Jenson Button made his endurance racing debut at Spa in the 1999 24-hour race at the circuit
and the former Formula 1 World Champion won the Belgian Grand Prix from pole position in 2012
The #38 entry that he shares with Bamber and Sébastien Bourdais has yet to trouble the scorers in 2025
but he is optimistic of reversing that trend this weekend.
“There was lots of information from [the last round at] Imola to take on-board and use to come out swinging and stronger at Spa,” Button remarked
“The car seemed to work well there last year
and JOTA did a great job in winning the race
so hopefully we can bring that all together and have a good event.”“We tend to do better where the grip is higher
so hopefully we can find something,” added Bourdais
“Imola is a very specific track with kerb-riding and you have to make a lot of compromises on set-up
so we’ll look to find a happy balance for everybody and get a clean weekend where we can go race.”
family and clients Emma Hetnar cut the ribbon on Revitalize Holistic Spa in her home in Highland Park on May 4
In the Highland Park neighborhood of West Seattle, Emma Hetnar has opened Revitalize Holistic Spa in her home
celebrating a grand opening for a space born directly from her personal health journey
The spa offers a range of therapies aimed at supporting healing and wellness
a mission Emma understands deeply from her own experience with Lyme disease and co-infections
A Decade-Long Health Battle Leading to a New Path
Emma's story began in 2003 while she was studying abroad in Brazil
Diagnosis of Lyme disease proved difficult; tests available at the time were not highly accurate (cited as 30-50% accuracy) and
did not even test for the specific strain she was bitten by
showing up a few years later when she was in her 20s
initially dismissed as simple fatigue by doctors who suggested she wasn't getting enough sleep or was doing too much
She experienced fatigue that affected her brain function
leading to issues at work like having trouble proofreading documents
Other symptoms included trouble swallowing
which were sometimes mistaken for allergy symptoms
The severity escalated dramatically after she moved to Seattle in 2015
when she started passing out and having non-epileptic seizures
The breakthrough in her diagnosis came unexpectedly from an intuitive member of the Buy Nothing community who visited her home and
Although Emma had previously tested negative
she felt compelled to follow the woman's advice and see her doctor
a practitioner who also specializes in chronic fatigue
This doctor immediately suspected Lyme disease based on her symptoms and subsequent tests confirmed she had Lyme disease
along with co-infections Babesia and Bartonella
With a background in biology and environmental science
Emma drew on her knowledge to research treatment options
she was motivated to find ways to speed up her recovery
Her treatment approach involved a combination of therapies
She described her method as trying "a little bit of everything," even giving herself fevers in a hot tub to help kill the bacteria
taking them for two years was "awful" and it "destroys your immune system," requiring subsequent gut healing
But the experience led her to bring those healing modalities to others and she founded Revitalize Holistic spa for that primary reason
Services Offered: A Suite of Therapeutic Equipment
Revitalize Holistic Spa centers around three key pieces of equipment that Emma found most effective
particularly for pain and inflammation which are significant issues with Lyme
the PEMF (Pulsing Electromagnetic Frequency) mat
• The G Force Vibrational Plate moves both back and forth and in a triplanar motion
allowing for movement and exercise even with fatigue
• The PEMF Mat promotes healing on a cellular level
Emma notes it can help with conditions like restless leg syndrome
although treating severe issues like neuropathy could take months
It also has the added benefit of improving sleep
• The Infrared Sauna Wrap allows the user's head to remain outside while the body is fully clothed within the wrap
Sessions typically last 20 minutes for Emma
She finds it especially helpful for the pain and inflammation associated with Lyme
and overall well-being while also being affordable."
Emma offers Reiki energy work and has added a Contour Light system
This equipment is used for body contouring
heating fat cells (adipocytes) to release their contents which are then processed and excreted by the lymphatic system
The system includes pads that act as "light wraps" for areas like the arms
There is also a facial plate for treating fine lines
A typical full-body contour light session is 25 minutes and is followed by 10 minutes on the vibrational plate to assist with lymphatic drainage
Emma notes that the contour light therapy "actually works," having personally lost over 10 lbs using it
The specific frequencies used are believed to be 635 and 880
"The new red light therapy is a more luxurious treatment that I’m excited to offer
but it is separate from the treatments that have helped me heal
This treatment is intended for people who are looking to lose weight and reduce inches."
Emma has structured her pricing to be affordable
The use of the three main pieces of equipment is charged at a dollar per minute
there is an initial consult fee of $79 to determine if it's a good fit
The contour light itself is offered as a package deal: 12 sessions for $1500 or 16 sessions for $2000
recommending coming in two times a week for maximum benefit
Initial 90-minute sessions introduce clients to the equipment and allow maximum use time
followed by a check-in to discuss wellness goals and tailor future sessions
Choosing to open the spa in her home was a deliberate decision driven by her health
Having the spa downstairs allows her to continue helping people heal even if she's not feeling well enough to drive or leave the house
This setup provides a controlled space where she can manage her hours
Reflecting on the impact of these therapies
Emma sees them as curative rather than merely palliative
She explains that she has gone from a place of significant impairment—having trouble speaking
and being unable to drive for over five years—to doing "really well" and driving all the time now
While she still experiences lingering symptoms like brain fog and pain flares
She feels she is "still healing" and continues to use the equipment for this reason
Her doctors suggest that her lingering symptoms are likely due to how the Lyme infection permanently altered her brain and body function
It's in her home because "it’s a solution I’ve created for myself as I re-enter the workforce and pursue my business."
and other wellness-focused local businesses
I’ve partnered with Rhodies FC and Junction FC soccer teams
Players from both teams come in weekly to Revitalize Spa to support their recovery and healing throughout the season
I continue to look for opportunities to partner with other local businesses
and many other local women in business were at the open house supporting me—just as I have supported and partnered with them."
Emma Hetnar is sharing the tools that were instrumental in her own recovery journey
offering a space for others in West Seattle to explore complementary therapies for pain
"The main focus of Revitalize Spa is creating a space for healing and wellness."

Rejuvenation Foot Spa Massage on Bryant Irvin Road in Fort Worth is the latest in a series of abrupt closures initiated by the Fort Worth Police Department and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
“We’re going in there to shut down a business that is doing illegal activity and help the victims that are inside,” said FWPD officer Buddy Calzada
The department took to social media to announce the 60-day emergency closure of the first illicit spa several months ago.
Calzada says they have received many tips from the public and legitimate massage businesses pointing police to businesses allegedly involved in illicit activity and sex trafficking

The two agencies then team up to investigate claims
conducting surprise visits to businesses in question
TDLR representatives look to confirm all employees have proper licensing to work
Changes to state law allow TDLR to issue a temporary closure if violations are found
it allows TDLR to go in there almost like code compliance checking on a restaurant,” he said
making sure everybody has everything they’re supposed to do and not doing the things that they should be doing.”
Police reportedly confirmed Rejuvenation Spa was offering illicit sex services online and to customers and that employees were working without proper licensing
Calzada says he was present for the investigation and can only say the employees are all adults
The employees are from another country and were flown to Waco and brought to Fort Worth to work under unknown conditions
“They’re not wanting to do what is taking place
TDLR is offering the employees access to resources and help

SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has ordered a six-month emergency shutdown of a North Side massage business over suspicions of human trafficking
was forced to close its operations at 12255 West Avenue on April 22
The agency said it began an investigation after receiving images and videos of sexual encounters at the business
TDLR’s investigation found that there were several unlicensed employees and other indicators of possible human trafficking
including lingerie and excessive security cameras
employees ran out of the building during TDLR’s site visit
TDLR issued the emergency closure to Guixan Han and Golden Phoenix Holdings LLC and prohibited them from operating a different massage establishment at that location

If you’ve ever had a professional pedicure
you know the indulgent delight they bring: the warm water circulating between your toes
the tingly feeling of epsom salts dissolving
the sinister satisfaction you derive from watching a blizzard of dead skin fall off your feet
After trying four popular at-home foot spas
I concluded that they are generally not worth the roughly $50 investment: A bathtub or a bucket of heated water will work just fine to soothe and soften your feet
evaluating the (subjective) usefulness of features such as water circulation
The best feature these baths can offer is sustained heat and the fleeting thrill of some bubbles
only the MaxKare models were able to genuinely produce heat
whereas the Conair and Kendal foot baths could only maintain the initial water temperature
which can be uncomfortable—if not searingly painful—on the insides of your feet
even with the bubbles circulating the water more evenly
the minimum heated water temperature is 95 °F
It provides consistent water heating and a halfway-decent foot massage
which the bucket you might also use to mop with likely does not
this powered bath provides consistent water heating
I struggle with plantar fasciitis and was personally seeking a solid set of massage rollers that could offer intense pressure
This MaxKare foot spa is the only option I tried that offers the best of both worlds: a legitimate heater that keeps the water warm and a decent set of rollers to engage the muscles in your foot
(The MaxKare model with four rollers I tested offers the same heat settings but fewer rollers
Although the rollers on the Kendal model also offered decent pressure on the muscly parts of the sole of the foot
each foot bath’s removable rollers can be attached in only one fixed spot; if your sore feet aren’t the exact right size for the rollers to hit that sweet spot
If you can handle trading in the ethereal spa music of your local salon for a laughably loud hum (video)
and you want a shallow basin perfectly shaped for feet
I’m holding on to my money and sticking with my cheap bucket

The Cottage had various family-friendly flourishes
Parenting mode to pampering mode: the tranquil spa at Calcot Manor
With its Ofsted-registered creche and tranquil spa
this country house hotel is big on relaxation
but I for one wasn't sure that 'luxury spa' and 'family-friendly fun' could peacefully coexist
I happened upon Calcot & Spa – a blissful
hybrid space nestled in the reliably gorgeous Cotswolds countryside
When the opportunity to visit the hotel presented itself
my partner and I were firmly in the grip of first-time parenthood
Eight weeks into the whirlwind of life with our baby girl
we set out for Calcot Manor – our car boot crammed with infinite baby supplies and ourselves sorely in need of some R&R
The first impression of Calcot & Spa is quintessential Cotswolds – crunchy gravel paths
manicured gardens and honey-coloured limestone dwellings
including the Grain Store (a gym and fitness sanctuary)
the Playbarn (an Ofsted-registered creche) and
From our morning news briefing to a weekly Good News Newsletter

I began hauling the aforementioned mountain of baby supplies out of the boot
only to be swiftly rescued by the friendly hotel staff
who took my keys and parked the car in the guest parking spot just around the corner
The whole thing felt delightfully like a US-style valet service and set the tone for the next couple of days
We were then introduced to our home for the following two nights: The Cottage
two-bathroom family suite was filled with luxurious grown-up features – a sprawling king-size bed
a private garden terrace for soaking up the unseasonably warm spring rays
a cosy lounge with its very own log burner – and complimentary sourdough loaf and Tony's Chocolonely snacks
The Cottage was also furnished with various family-friendly flourishes
including a storage box filled with all sorts of essential odds and sods such as toys
Upstairs there was similarly useful kit: a deep cot in the master bedroom
a mini bathtub set up in the bathroom and a separate nappy bin
Sticking with the theme of kiddy comforts and the most extraordinary feature of Calcot & Spa: the on-site Ofsted-registered creche that's run by a team of experienced nannies
Guests are offered up to four hours of free childcare in the Playbarn per day
and you can choose between a morning or afternoon slot
Having never once left our baby's side since the day she was born
my partner and I were apprehensive about taking up the service
But after umming and ahhing for the appropriate amount of time
we bit the bullet and guiltily dropped off our little bundle of noisy joy
along with a bottle of milk and a few spare nappies
'So near and yet so far' is a phrase usually steeped in disappointment – but in this case
the creche is just a two-minute walk from the hotel spa
which allowed us to slip seamlessly from parenting mode to pampering mode
we lapped up the spa facilities from the sauna and steam room to the outdoor hot tub
There's a specific window of time during the day when kids are allowed to join the grown-ups in the pool but outside of that the spa is a sumptuous
the lovely nannies gave us a full update on her activities over the past few hours
our little family – topped up on some much-needed
marvellous relaxation was free to enjoy the evening
Calcot & Spa boasts two eateries: The Hive
both in terms of the food – I loved the Severn & Wye smoked kipper with parsley butter and lemon
according to my partner – and the staff
When our baby decided that a restful start to the day was not on the menu
our lovely waitress offered to hold her while we finished our food
That's what you'd call going above and beyond
Following the topsy-turvy early weeks of parenthood (think poonamis
I only wish my bank balance would allow for regular visits and the offer of much-needed respite from the frantic juggling act and unprecedented exhaustion of new motherhood

massage therapist faces sexual assault charges involving two former customers
police are investigating a case involving a third woman they expect to take to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office for consideration of criminal charges
We decided to show his mug shot in this story because police are asking any additional alleged victims to contact them
the massage spa where the man worked is still open
We want to warn you that the following content in this story could be triggering for some and contains mature
The women we talked to felt strongly that we should not sanitize their allegations
Natasha Culp was no stranger to massages when she walked into Fusion Spa in August 2023 in Kansas City
she booked a last-minute couple's massage with her boyfriend
They were both on separate tables in the same room when she says things with her male masseuse took a turn for the worse
"He had pulled my arm off to the side of the table and was massaging the back of my arm
but before he put my arm back on the table
he rubbed it on his body," Natasha recalled
Police Department detective noted the massage therapist "put his penis in Natasha's hand" and rubbed himself with her hand a couple times."
Natasha said she initially tried to convince herself it was unintentional
But she says as the massage therapist's hands kept getting closer and closer to her genitals
she froze before he placed a finger inside her
That's when she recalls jumping up from the table
first person I called was my mom," Natasha said
and I think it’s because I was afraid of not being believed," she admits while choking back a sob
"I got home and jumped in the shower immediately because I just felt disgusting
I grabbed his hand and showed him what (the masseuse) did
we’re calling the police and we’re going to file a report."'
Natasha's boyfriend drove her to the police station where she filed a report
She said that did little to bring her comfort
"I quit going to the gym because I didn’t want to be looked at."
Natasha identified the masseuse as Gui Jin Jiang
only to learn he wasn't even licensed as a massage therapist in Missouri
Shumate said he immediately felt compelled to help her
'What will these people think of me if I speak up right now?"' "And that’s what hit it for me
that we had to get involved," Shumate said
Shumate filed a civil suit on Natasha's behalf and helped her file a complaint with the Missouri Massage Licensing Board against Fusion Spa and its owner for allowing Jiang to perform massages without a license
had filed a similar police report that named Jiang more than a year earlier
I don’t know how I feel about that,'" Lila said
"He kind of just kept getting closer and inching closer
and I just really tried to convince myself that nothing was inappropriate or wrong," Lila said
"I really wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt
he just crossed the line into my underwear and went under my underwear," Lila said
and didn't know how to react," even "attempting to close her legs to get him to stop," but Lila said he didn't
Lila recalls leaving the spa as quickly as possible
prompting her mom to call and check on her
"I basically broke down and told her he had put his fingers inside of me
We need to go call the police!'" Lila said
instead of first going to the police station
her Mom took her to the hospital to get checked out with a rape kit
who represented her in a civil suit similar to Natasha's against the masseuse and Fusion Spa
along with four other women who later came forward
The six women settled their civil suits for undisclosed amounts
the ones who want to speak up have a voice
and the ones that don’t want to speak up have someone to fight for them," Shumate said
In addition to the six women Shumate has represented
he says he's personally talked to three others whose cases remain under investigation at this time
Jiang is only charged in the cases involving Lila and Natasha
But KCPD detectives say they are finishing up a separate investigation involving a third woman they expect to take to the prosecutor's office for consideration of additional charges
The alleged sexual assault is something Lila has spoken openly about on social media
and I found a lot of healing through TikTok and social media and hearing what other people said about their experiences
And so I wanted to be able to do that for other people," Lila said
Prosecutors filed two counts of second-degree sodomy charges against Jiang in July 2024
He was arrested in January and arraigned on April 14th
The women say the wait for a trial has been agonizing
along with knowing the massage parlor was still open
That's why Lila says she ultimately confronted the spa owner
who was married to Jiang at the time of the incidents
captured in a video she shared on social media
and so I just decided I need to go in and really give her a piece of my mind and tell her how she really affected my life completely
It felt like I had found my voice again," Lila emphasizes
In addition to encouraging other alleged victims of abuse in any form to come forward
the women we spoke to want to see Jiang behind bars and see Fusion Spa shut down
they're also trying to move on with their lives
Lila used her settlement money to move to California
where she's focused on finding joy in life again by skydiving
Natasha used her money to pay for therapy and went back to school at Johnson County Community College to become a therapist
The boyfriend who stood by her after the massage is now her fiance'
They both say they feel stronger for coming forward
finding solace in sharing their voices and reclaiming their power
and I think that's where the healing comes from
we are doing now the thing we wish we would've done in that moment," Natasha said
We reached out to the public defender representing Jiang for an interview
noting it's generally their policy to not comment on pending cases
We also contacted the Missouri Board of Therapeutic Massage to ask why Fusion Spa is still allowed to operate
and their spokesperson shared that "the board does not comment on pending litigation
nor can (they) discuss whether or not a complaint has been filed or is being investigated."
records they provided us showed the business was on probation for three years starting in 2016 after a different unlicensed employee was "improperly allowed to operate (there) as a massage therapist."

Cadillac’s Will Stevens sets sights on returning to Spa after character-building weekend at Imola…
Will Stevens is optimistic that Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA “should be in a better place” heading to the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Spa-Francorchamps after the team came away with just a single point from a challenging Imola weekend
Alex Lynn and Norman Nato finished tenth during the 6 Hours of Imola
picking up the British squad’s sole point while the sister Cadillac V-Series.R
38 car in particular endured an eventful race that featured skirmishes with each of the Peugeot 9X8s
with Bamber eventually receiving a drivethrough penalty for tagging Paul di Resta into a spin at Tosa
12 crew had a challenging weekend of its own
with mechanics carrying our significant repairs on the car between Free Practice 3 and qualifying after Lynn went off at Rivazza
said after the race that the way the Imola weekend played out came as no surprise to the team
but that it was happy about collecting points as it continues to work through its first season as a factory squad
“There’s no question that we knew this would be a more difficult weekend than Qatar,” Stevens said
“I think we shouldn’t forget it was still our second race with this car
very different track to what we’ve had
So I think it’s good that we’ve now had two extremes of that
“The reality is now the competition is super tough
that’s ultimately where you’re going to end up
we’re still scoring some points which I think at the end of the day in situations like this you’ve always got to try and get the maximum of what we could and I think we did
“Obviously moving forward that’s not where we want to be and we want to be further up front and hopefully Spa we can make some improvements and make that happen.”
Spa proved to be the site of JOTA’s breakthrough triumph with its customer Porsche 963
when Stevens and Callum Ilott took victory in the red-flagged and lengthened race
Stevens looked forward to returning to Spa with optimism
saying he expects the Cadillac package to be “in a better place” at the Ardennes circuit
“I think even looking to last year with the Cadillac and I think generally higher grip tracks seem to suit us more like we saw in Qatar,” Stevens said
“Obviously Spa has just been resurfaced not too long ago and I know their track grip is pretty good
So I’m more optimistic for our package going to Spa that we should be in a better place
“Obviously we look at what Cadillac was doing last year in terms of results coming into this year
“So I think looking forward to the Spa and the races ahead
I would like to think we can go in confident
we also know what we want to be doing from a car setup point of view as well
“So even though [Imola was] disappointing
I think we should still be positive for the remainder of the year that we can still get some strong with us.”

Richardson of Ballston Spa was arrested on Sunday by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office
after being detained by Ballston Spa Police on warrants from the Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police
She was detained on these warrants after a report was made of a suspicious person at the Dunkin’ Donuts location on Doubleday Avenue in Ballston Spa
The Sheriff’s Office says she was allegedly found to be in possession of 360 milligrams or more of methadone and crack cocaine from a search incident coinciding with the arrest
Authorities say Richardson was charged with fourth and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
She was arraigned in Milton Town Court and released on her own recognizance pending further proceedings in the Ballston Spa Village Court on the charges within that jurisdiction
The Sheriff’s Office says Richardson was released on an appearance ticket from Corinth Town Court on the seventh-degree charge
Officials say Richardson was turned over to State Police on their warrants upon her release
An 83-count indictment filed in Trumbull County accuses eight people of operating a human trafficking ring that compelled women into prostitution at illegal massage parlors in the Mahoning Valley
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene announced Wednesday that the indictment alleges that the defendants ran the Tiger Spa and Sunny Spa
both located on West Market Street in Warren
as fronts for sex trafficking and money laundering
The crime ring purportedly held Korean women at the establishments for periods of up to three months
requiring them to live on the premises and engage in sex acts for payment
are the result of an ongoing investigation by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force
which operates under the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission
the task force and partner agencies executed search warrants at the businesses as part of "Operation Saving Daylight," a coordinated effort that led to the seizure of significant amounts of cash
The investigation culminated in this week’s indictment
covering alleged criminal activity spanning more than five years
Many of the 83 counts name multiple defendants
Michigan: charged with one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity
one count of trafficking in persons – commercial sex acts
Georgia: charged with one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity
Texas: charged with one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity
Ohio: charged with one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity
Georgia: charged with one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and three counts of promoting prostitution
Ohio: charged with two counts of promoting prostitution
of Dallas: charged with one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and one count of promoting prostitution
also known as “Young Crazy,” 61
More than two dozen of the charges include additional specifications for the forfeiture of assets
Yost’s Special Prosecutions Section is prosecuting the case in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court
Investigators also executed another search warrant at the Sunny Spa on Wednesday
Normal Police Department [NPD] and Illinois State Police [ISP] found a human trafficking victim at a local massage spa on Wednesday
they found someone identifying as a victim of sexual trafficking and in need of assistance
ISP’s Criminal Investigation Task Force 6 responded
and the two departments executed a search warrant and got the victim to safety
State Police declined to share the name of the local massage spa
"The investigation remains open and ongoing and we are unable to share that information at this time," a spokesperson said
ISP reports that it often collaborates with other departments on these cases
and will “provide essential services to victims
“There is no one size fits all option when it comes to assisting people who have been trafficked and significant time and resources are dedicated to developing the best plan for each person,” ISP said in a release
as well as information about identifying these types of situations
While the Bloomington Police Department was not involved in this effort
ISP reports it has been doing its own work to stop human trafficking and other illicit crime
For those who suspect human trafficking is occurring in their area
ISP recommends contacting the National hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or text *233733
