At children's farm d' Oude Smelterij in Torhout (West Flanders) they are celebrating their extremely productive ram No fewer than 4 triplets have been born at the West Flemish petting zoo during the past few days They all belong to the ‘Flemish Sheep’ breed Sheep of the ‘Flemish Sheep’ breed are large long-legged sheep usually with white wool that completely covers their body ‘This is a high-yielding breed,’ explains animal keeper Frauke Hoorelbeke ‘The breed is known for multiple gestations yielding several lambs in each pregnancy But the fact that all the ewes now had triplets is pretty exceptional we are experiencing a real baby boom here at the minute!’ Our ram is the proud father of all the lambs We only put one single ram with all our ewes A total of 12 sheep are lambing as a result of the endeavours of the single ram.’ "I hope whoever secures the winning bid will appreciate her Sending out so much love to everyone in LA affected by the fires." Garbage‘s Shirley Manson has shared that she is auctioning off the dress she wore in the ‘I Think I’m Paranoid’ music video for LA wildfire relief All proceeds from the “Give A Frock” auction will go towards helping those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires, which began on January 7 and have left 28 people dead, more than 12,000 structures destroyed and the forced evacuation of more than 150,000 residents. A post shared by 🩸garbage🩸 (@garbage) She continued: “Bidding on this dress and other amazing pop culture items has already begun @juliens_auctions . The auction closes on February 25th. All proceeds to go to helping those affected by the LA Wildfires. Thank you for your support in advance. We love you Los Angeles.” A post shared by 🩸garbage🩸 (@garbage) Previously announcing the donation of the dress in a separate Instagram post Manson wrote: “I’m really hoping it goes to someone wonderful Someone who will give generously for a good cause I want you to know that it was hard to let this wee dress of mine go It’s a tiny little whiff of a thing but it symbolises so much for me.” She continued: “I hope whoever secures the winning bid will appreciate her Sending out so much love to everyone in LA affected by the fires Gratitude to everyone who has organised or participated in events and collections for those who need help so urgently So many amazing people and organisations in this wild and wonderful city and the gorgeous sprawling state of California The current bid for Manson’s dress is going for $5,000. An item description read: “A black and tan polka dot, strapless ribbed mini dress, worn by Shirley Manson of Garbage in the band’s 1998 music video for “I Think I’m Paranoid.” Together with a note handwritten by Manson to the winning bidder, as well as a Hotel Al Moudira Luxor bag with a handwritten message that reads “For Shirley – From Shirley – With Love x.” A post shared by 🩸garbage🩸 (@garbage) In other Garbage news, Mansion previously sat down with NME for a chat and opened up about how the band’s relationship with their 2005 LP ‘Bleed Like Me’ has changed over time I never had a particularly good relationship with that record until relatively recently,” Manson told NME “We released it at a time of immense strife within the band and dwindling interest from our record label and the general public.” “We were stuck without an A&R that was interested in us,” she added They kept on pushing for us to work with people that we didn’t feel were the right fit they decided that we were being really difficult It was at a time in the entertainment industry when people were much more pliable than we were.” Garbage’s last album, ‘No Gods No Masters’ arrived in 2021, and later in the NME interview, Manson opened up about how the hugely positive response to the project has left her feeling inspired for its soon-to-be-announced follow-up. “I was really delighted that ‘No Gods No Masters’ was received so well because we had no expectations whatsoever. Going into this next record, I feel a shift. I’m trying to dampen my outrage,” she explained. “It’s a searchlight, this record. After scorching the earth, we’re coming out of a filthy cave with a searchlight. We’re looking for shards of life and humanity.” While no further details about the project have been announced, Manson did tell NME that she predicted the writing and recording process would be completed by the end of May. Text description provided by the architects. We were commissioned to build Infrax West’s new offices after winning a competition in which Infrax’s high degree of ambition had to be expressed in a strong conceptual design that matched and enhanced its corporate identity. Their characteristic ecological and sustainable values were given expression in this project by using a metaphor for a forest in which a host of slender concrete trunks were topped with a broad green ‘crown’. As a utilities service provider (electricity, natural gas, cable television and sewerage), Infrax sets an important example concerning sustainability and energy efficient building. Infrax has drawn up a program of requirements with very challenging objectives concerning energy efficiency, comfort and flexibility for their new regional office in Torhout. Courtesy of Crepain Binst ArchitectureDiverse eco-innovative techniques such as a technical front wall with integrated photovoltaic panels, a borehole energy storage field (BEO field) and core concrete activation (BKA) have been applied throughout the building. The use of these technologies has yielded primary energy savings of 42% and a significant improvement in comfort. The calculated value of the building’s E-standard is E60 and the K value is K44. The drop in energy use will save around €30,000 each year. Courtesy of Crepain Binst ArchitectureThe central pillar of the design is the creation of an innovative wall that is both literally and metaphorically green The outer skin consists of screen printed glass panels in 3 colours and three degrees of transparency The mosaic formed by all these elements and the wall’s ingenious construction have made an unmistakable contribution to the building’s expressive and dynamic character The project receives a subsidy from the European Fund for Regional Development because of its advanced eco-innovative technologies and importance for local and regional economic development The new Infrax office building’s low energy concept was also made possible by co-financing by the Flemish Energy Agency and the Flemish government’s Environment You'll now receive updates based on what you follow Personalize your stream and start following your favorite authors If you have done all of this and still can't find the email the Vanhaerents Art Collection will celebrate its 15th anniversary since it first opened its doors to the public in Rue Anneessens in Brussels on March 16 This anniversary is an excellent opportunity to rediscover the collection and look back at the evolution it has undergone has made in recent years while developing into one of the most established Belgian institutions for contemporary art The origins of the collection go back to the 1970s when a young Walter Vanhaerents (°1945 Torhout) started purchasing his first works of art With a preference for radical and groundbreaking art the foundation of the current collection was laid The collection reflects the dynamism and diversity of contemporary art practice She brings together work by various artists Vanhaerents is the only Belgian collector to be listed in ARTNET's prestigious Top 200 Collectors which recognizes and honors international art collectors for their unlimited dedication to art The exhibitions were heavily influenced by pop culture for the first ten years but in 2018 the VanhaerentsArtCollection introduced a new way of exhibiting The museum has since been combined with a painting and viewing depot It is the first Belgian institution to introduce the progressive Schaulager concept and is fully committed to stocking works of art so that they remain accessible for study purposes and conservation it can be replaced without undermining the essence of the exhibition the collection has developed many close collaborations with international museums The international recognition of the collection is mainly due to its contributions to the 56th and 58th editions of the Venice Biennale The Death of James Lee Byars (2019) was part of the official Collateral Events program and welcomed 130,000 visitors The progressive character of the collection is still present after 15 years The current exhibition VIEWING DEPOT EX#02 - which includes work by Bruce Nauman Anne Imhof and Zhang Huan - has a complementary exhibition SPOTLIGHT that highlights the work of established and emerging black artists in the recent events of the Black Lives Matter movement "a private collection has more freedom to go against the canons and consensus that public museums often struggle with it can express itself more freely and is not tied to the recognized historical centers of gravity." I had just flown in from covering the war in El Salvador and was shattered What we both needed was a good night’s sleep instead we were having lunch at some trendy yuppie restaurant called “America” on 18th Street with my agent Susan was the only happy one at our table, as both Sinéad and I were ready to collapse. We both ordered fluffernutters and barely had the strength to get them up to our mouths, but Susan was beaming as the yuppies from the surrounding tables stared at Sinéad’s bald head as she wasn’t yet that well known in America “The Lion and The Cobra,” had only been released the year before and Sinéad was just gathering the attention she deserved I met Sinéad while during an interview with her for a Spin magazine cover story I was marveling at all the beautiful receptionists inside Sinéad’s record company office—and then she trudged in wearing combat boots and an Elmer Fudd cap with the flaps down over her ears and she took off the cap and I saw the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen Her bald head seemed to emphasize her stunning face and she kept asking me throughout the interview what I was staring at—and all I could say was After the interview Sinéad invited me to hang out with her and we talked about the Catholic Church in Ireland and the most gorgeous creature I’d ever seen Sinead O'Connor on stage at the Olympic Ballroom in 1988 I thought Sinéad was extremely normal, especially compared to my other friends; Joey and Dee Dee Ramone, and Nancy Spungen and Sable Starr Since I’d just come from covering the war in Northern Ireland for the past month that was also a large part of conversation but I had to catch a flight back to New York in the morning to make my deadline and we agreed to continue our conversation over the phone She was the first person I called when I got back home and Sinéad was upset that she was scheduled to do a live CBS or NBC interview in the States the next morning and she was furious that the powers that be insisted she take a car to the interview instead of the subway that she preferred as well as a very strong will and bravery she possessed that the world would soon come to know—and condemn Sinéad’s big problem was that she thought people were smarter than they were So I’d take any assignment as long as it didn’t have to do with music; wars or crack cocaine that was then reaching epidemic proportions “I was flattered that Sinéad picked me over Kennedy knowing that every girl in Manhattan would’ve given John-John her left ankle tattoo in favor of a date with him.”When I returned after six weeks in El Salvador Sinéad flew over from London and stayed at my studio apartment on St and Sinéad fell in love with New York City The day Sinéad flew over was when we had our lunch with my agent who remembered the restaurant “America” as being this cavernous up-scale cafeteria with murals of the Statue of Liberty and a bald eagle on the walls Jake’s tiny sweatshirt wrapped around her waist and Sinéad only told me when we got home to my apartment on St was that when she left the table to go to the ladies’ room John-John Kennedy handed her a piece of paper and pencil and asked for her phone number The arrogance of John-John earned the wrath of Sinéad and she broke his pencil and told him to “Fuck off!” I was flattered that Sinéad picked me over Kennedy knowing that every girl in Manhattan would’ve given John-John her left ankle tattoo in favor of a date with him Such is the power of “guppy love,” as my agent told me we reminded her of I’d make bubble-baths for Sinéad in my tiny apartment and when the tub filled up with bubbles and she climbed in I’d scoop the soap suds up in my hand and start sculpting different hair styles on top of her bald head “You don’t like the way I look?” she pouted “Because I was wondering if hair would detract from your natural beauty...” Sinéad smiled that smile that could melt an iceberg and we continued our affair until Spin came out with the cover story a few months later I knew our affair wouldn’t last and enjoyed it until it came to an end but we remained friends even when the “troubles” started during America’s first Gulf War when Sinéad refused to let some New Jersey patriots play the National Anthem at some outdoor stadium before her performance “What band or singer wants to listen to the National Anthem before they go onstage When was the last time you heard someone sing the Star-Spangled Banner before a rock & roll show Why someone in Sinéad’s entourage did not explain to her that the Pope in America was thought of as just a nice old guy instead of the fascist dictator he was in Ireland the shamed women were warehoused by Catholic religious institutions after 155 bodies were discovered in an unmarked grave at one of the “Magdalene Laundries,” an investigation was launched and a £50 million compensation scheme for survivors was set up by the Irish Government Sinéad was right to stand up against the Catholic Church since she had been committed to one of the “Magdalene Laundries” for five years for shoplifting and being incorrigible and had witnessed the horrors firsthand and right about the Grammy Award members being slaves to fame and fortune and cowards for not speaking out on America’s ills What broke my heart was when I saw Kris Kristofferson take her in his arms when she was booed off the stage during a Bob Dylan Tribute concert at Madison Square Garden two weeks after the Saturday Night Live Pope scandal but I couldn’t hear what he whispered in her ear Eventually it wasn’t the bastards that destroyed her, but when her second son Shane escaped from a hospital after being put on a suicide watch to F*ck Beginning as a one-day event in 1977 the festival has gradually grown throughout its history to include four days When you factor in its 85,000 daily ticket holders that expansion seems only natural and organiser Herman Schueremans has been fidgeting with the scale of the event since its explosion in popularity It evolved to the scale of double festival with the municipality of Torhout included as the second festival site That was until 1999 when it reverted back to the single location of Werchter Given its popularity though it might seem a little surprising that a double festival wasn’t viable. Especially when you consider, that much like Tomorrowland the majority of festival punters come from outside of Belgium However given that the festival shares acts with Roskilde and Arras Main Square Festival in France a double event seems hardly necessary Those events are held on the same weekend with Glastonbury sometimes also clashing with Rock Werchter Much like the aforementioned festivals this Belgium event shares the same reverence in its beautiful setting top notch facilities and for its ability to run smoothly year in year out And you’d expect as much for a festival that has run for nearly 40 years The organisers capacity to deal with around 139,000 attendees every year is integral to its success but its past lineups have helped forge this festival ahead into the future Having David Bowie headline two years in a row probably doesn’t hurt and nor does booking the likes of Iggy Pop Oasis and The Chemical Brothers just to name a few Much like its contemporaries that run every year you can expect Rock Werchter to be drawing big name acts and international revellers for many more years The 2014 Rock Werchter lineup is easily one of the event’s best bills in its history Just mention the first six headliners in Metallica Placebo and The Black Keys and you should be sold What about when we add in Scottish indie rockers Fran Ferdinand New York three-piece Interpol and the legendary Pixies Even if rock isn’t your thing the likes of Skrillex SBTRKT and Metronomy ensures that a broad range of listeners can enjoy this event To see the full extent of this massive lineup follow this link View Larger Map This rock music event will take over the Belgium village of Werchter from the 3rd to the 6th of July Ticketholders will first have to organize flights to Belgium with the capital of Brussels your likely destination KLM and Singapore Airlines amongst others can take you there The following are a list of estimated return airfares that were available at the time of writing Adelaide: Two-stop flights are valued upwards of $2400 Brisbane: Two-stop flights are valued upwards of $1700 Melbourne: Two-stop flights are valued upwards of $2000 Perth: Two-stop flights are valued upwards of $2000 Sydney: Two-stop flights are valued upwards of $1900 At the basement of Brussels Airport punters can take a train to the nearby town Leuven However to travel from Leuven Railway Station to Werchter’s Festival Park you’re encouraged to use De Lijn’s special shuttle service You can claim one free and nominative E-Train Ticket from here.
