A weather system combined with the typical Barnegat Bay seabreeze to bring southerlies of 20 knots with gusts well into the mid -20s on the first two days of the event
placing a premium on keeping the low-bowed Sunfish moving
The top American finisher was Conner Blouin in fifth
The top female was Fernanda Higueras of Peru
and top Youth was Miles Diekmann of the US

Jean Paul De Trazegnies of Peru won his third Sunfish Worlds title at the 2023 Class World Championship on December 5-9 in Miami
He finished with five points ahead of Jonathan Martinetti of Ecuador and with 10 fewer points than Conner Blouin (USA)
while Bernardo Fernandez of Ecuador was top youth
One hundred boats competed in the 12-race regatta
with the final race triggering a second throw-out which allowed De Trazegnies to discard a DNF when he had a breakdown on the first day
with a strong northwesterly bringing gusts into the 20s
with gusts typically up to 12 knots or a bit higher each day
but provided almost perfect surfing conditions offwind

topping the results overall along with victories in the women’s and grand masters’ classifications
with racing held September 6-10 in Torbole sul Garda
Jean Paul De Trazegnies easily won the World title
posting all top ten scores to take victory by 32 points over David Hernandez (GUA)
Caterina Romero was second for much of the event before slipping to fourth but easily outdistancing the next woman
Alex Zimmermann won a race en route to his victory
Ninety-four competitors completed 10 races in very varied conditions
first with medium-light southerly winds and then with gusty
discarding a tenth while winning three races
The northerly wind of the last two days compromised the final overall result of the other Peruvian
but with the violent gusts from the north she was unable to maintain the pace of the first days
