(ANS – Vielsalm) – An exciting project is taking shape in Farnières
It is a spiritual centre for young people and families and the main place of welcome for the Salesian Family of Don Bosco in French-speaking Belgium
Every year it welcomes hundreds of young people and adults for retreats and special events
Two communities of Salesians and FMA live here
right in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes
At the request of the Salesian France-Belgium South Province
two years ago a group of religious and lay people began to consider the possibility of building a community of Salesian life at the service of the Christian spiritual life of the area
Accommodation is available on site and the Diocese of Namur has offered a place as a parish assistant
as part of a mission carried out in collaboration with the parish itself
in order to be able to adhere to the project of the Salesian Farnières community
The appeal is addressed to anyone who is passionate about the spirituality and pedagogy of St John Bosco
to those who want to guide others through play
to those who have a sense of relationship and are naturally joyful
to those who want to make their time and abilities available
"If you have the desire to live these values and to live them with others
in the service of an exciting project" the article reads "the project of the Salesian Farnières community is for you
In the evocative setting of the Farnières estate in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes
this invitation to contribute to the Christian life of the Don Bosco Farnières Centre was born
The opportunities offered are many: welcoming and accompanying groups of children
being involved in the preparation of celebrations and moments of prayer
helping guide pastoral unity in Vielsalm and much more

The King and Queen of the Belgians closed their workweek by travelling in the South of Belgium, in the Luxembourg Province, for a series of visits.

A post shared by Belgian Royal Palace (@belgianroyalpalace)
the King and Queen made the trip to Marche-en-Famenne
where Comptoir Forestier has its headquarters
The company makes sure to collect seeds from the most prolific forest environments in Wallonia and sell them so that vegetation can have a better chance of surviving natural disasters and climate change
This also increases biodiversity among the province’s plants
striking a delicate balance between increasing biodiversity and sticking to local flora
the royal couple concluded their visit at Jadot Castle
where they were welcomed by local authorities and had a chance to meet the population of locals
This is a typical visit for royals that includes a lot of the topics that they care about (disabilities and inclusion
the fight for the survival of local environmental characteristics
and the promotion of functional relations between local and central powers)
and King Philippe and Queen Mathilde have carried out numerous visits such as this one throughout their time as active members of the Royal Family
Luxembourg Province is the most southern of the five provinces that constitute the region of Wallonia
The Province is called “Luxembourg” because
it was a part of the namesake Grand Duchy that still exists today
The conference established that the “Wallonian area” and the Pays d’Arlon should go to Belgium
despite both areas speaking a precursor of modern Luxembourgish
The Luxembourg Province borders the homonym nation

2 $1 million Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1)
"I don't really get to do the shopping," Hronis said
and he puts the stuff in and I go to the register
Five-year-old Full Serrano came available this year
and Sadler quickly developed him into a horse who could be competitive at the top level
Full Serrano tackled what would be the same surface and distance he would encounter at the Breeders' Cup
He won a mile allowance optional claimer at Del Mar Aug
3 and then ran a terrific second in the 1 1/4-mile Pacific Classic Stakes (G1)
"He trained really well here (at Del Mar) this summer," Sadler said
"He got back to Santa Anita and he got a little fever."
That caused Full Serrano to miss the 1 1/8-mile California Crown Stakes (G1) Sept
"He shed that quickly and trained up good for this race," Sadler said
trained by Brittany Russell and ridden by her husband
He also received a new jockey in Joel Rosario
While Rosario had never before piloted Full Serrano
he and Sadler had been a terrific team when the jockey used to ride the Southern California circuit regularly
"I cannot thank him enough for everything that he has done for me in my career," Rosario said
That included the two collaborating to win the 2018 Breeders' Cup Classic with Accelerate at Churchill Downs
Though Rosario now rides in the East most of the year
he and Sadler quickly resumed their teamwork with Full Serrano
"I just told him the horse was really doing well—he'd had a lot of training and was fit and ready to go," Sadler said
"Ride him aggressively into the first turn
I thought the tactics would be key with a 14-horse field at Del Mar."
Rosario put Full Serrano into the race early. T O Saint Denis of Japan set the early pace
with Full Serrano racing a length behind in second
T O Saint Denis was responsible for fractions of :22.30
which as it turned out set the race up for Full Serrano
did an amazing job up there," Rosario said
Full Serrano took command just past the quarter pole
and Domestic Product also came from well back
who hit the wire 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Post Time
with Domestic Product 2 1/4 lengths back in third
Full Serrano ($28.80) stopped the clock in 1:35.48
Full Mast retired to stud at Haras Chenaut in Argentina
Won Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere-Grand Criterium (G1)
Prix La Rochette (G3); 2nd Prix Paul de Moussac (G3); 3rd Fasig-Tipton Lure S (RT)
At 5: Won Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1)

(ANS - Vielsalm) - Located in the middle of a forest
the Domaine de Farnières is an enchanting place naturally deputed to hospitality
Two religious communities - the Salesians of Don Bosco and the "Notre-Dame au Bois" house of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians - reside there and contribute
along with their lay collaborators and several volunteers
the papal encyclical Laudato Sì cannot but elicit an immediate call to action; and in recent weeks
Farnières has experienced a real "ecological transition."
Each year 60,000 liters of diesel fuel are needed to heat the halls
It has been ten years since the center's managers have been thinking about the future
photovoltaic panels were installed (a rare project at the time) that produced 10,000 kW of the 110,000 consumed
an even more important new step was taken: the installation of a new biomass heating system for all buildings - a much more environmentally friendly system - and this month the two boilers using wood chips went into operation
This is the largest investment made by the house since the major renovation 25 years ago
Another operation that testifies to the attention paid to the care of the Common Home had also taken place shortly before
when a "tree planting" weekend was held on the grounds of the house
more than 1,000 trees and shrubs were planted
The goal was to transform the large lawn bordering the left side of the main access path to the center into a welcoming place: small green areas for picnics surrounded by bushes
spaces for sharing in small groups bordered by hedges
in addition to improving the appearance and functionality of the services offered
the safety of the center has also benefited: the hedge planted on the edge of the road leading to the parking lot prevents children from accessing the driveway
which can contribute to the food supply of the house in the future
And one must also consider the organic and educational apiary
which has been under construction for several years and has been delayed due to the health crisis
thanks mainly to the contribution of students from the "Don Bosco" school in Verviers - in a process
that directly involves young people in the implementation of beneficial projects

Belgian newspaper “l'avenir” reported on Friday that sheep had been bitten and killed in the woods between La-Roche-en-Ardenne and Vielsalm.
The first incident already dates back to the end of August. The affected shepherd told the newspaper that his herd had already been attacked by wild dogs before, however the recent attacks didn't compare.
“This animal was hungry,” he explained. “It bit the sheep in the throat and ate the rear parts.”
The dead animals were brought to special laboratories in France for further examination. The area where the attacks happened was also searched for traces of wolf-like droppings or fur, however nothing was discovered so far.
DNA analysis of the bite marks are made in order to clarify if the attackers were simple wolfhounds or real wolves. Both animals have strong similarities.
Only days ago, the response to a parliamentary question in the Walloon regional parliament confirmed that three hunters saw a wolf in Nassogne on October 22.
The observation was considered as viable, among other reasons because one of the hunters is a taxidermist and had already prepared a wolf before.

completing the 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.93 over a turf course rated good
Trained by Bernie Flint for L. T. B. Inc. and Hillerich Racing, Mizz Money paid $11.80, $6.60, and $4.60, with Vielsalm paying $51.20 and $17.00. Heath finished a nose behind the runner-up and paid $4.40
The victory was the fifth in 13 starts for Mizz Money
who was coming off a March 26 New Orleans Ladies Stakes win over a good turf course at Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots

Mizz Money was bred in Kentucky by Flint and her co-owners

BrutPop and La "S" Grand Atelier are joining forces for the second edition of the nomadic festival What Is It?
it aims to change our perspective on artists with a mental disability and
"We expect people with a mental disability to try and be as normal as possible
and to keep their symptoms as hidden and repressed as they can
we expect artists to distinguish themselves and present themselves to the world in the most special and unique way possible
It is this paradox that we seek to question," says Antoine Capet
this Paris-based platform forges unexpected relationships between art and disabilities
and at the same time involves the outside world in what is usually a private affair
it brought the first edition of the traveling festival What Is It
on the road to a different mind-set for the world
the duo is joining forces with La "S" Grand Atelier
which was already part of the first edition
The artistic laboratory based in Vielsalm organises workshops for artists with a mental disability and tries to build bridges through a residency programme through which external artists cooperate with in-house talent
One of their most striking realisations is a formidable
the Brussels-based comics platform that presents an incomparable vision of comics and their experimental potential
and the power of their poetic and human expression
Thierry Van Hasselt: "The work that La 'S' does transforms its residents
and the way they interact with other people
But it also changes the way we look at them
This city – and the friendship and journeys it has brought about – is an incredible gift
and a positive kind of nonchalance to my drawings
That never would have happened without Marcel
Meeting him has unleashed a real transformative power."
and the transformative potential of art through shared experiences
is a leitmotif that runs all the way through What Is It
and if they suffered that would be all the better
But I simply didn't know why I should deprive them of the opportunity to meet people
and these collaborations only seem to nourish the artists.' Now they embrace this mixity as a way of practising art brut
This stimulates us to continue the project."
and react artistically to the same stimuli that we experience
They listen to Maître Gims and Michael Jackson
We're particularly interested in the filter they use to sieve through daily existence in consumer society
it is just that they interpret them slightly differently."
also aims to shift our perspective in order to expand our horizons and possibilities
"I have always wondered why we should impose norms on people who do not have the required baggage to comply with those norms," Anne-Françoise Rouche says
of which a considerable number have a light disability
think that 'being normal' is the only way to be accepted by society
Part of our work is to show them that they can create a positive identity for themselves and their work outside this so-called 'normality'
David Lemoine: "I think our society is ready for a different attitude towards people with disabilities
We have reached such a pivotal moment in contemporary art: there is a growing desire for artistic sincerity and spontaneity
And that is precisely what this festival provides."
when we made fanzines and exhibitions from stuff we found in the bin or that were tucked away in a desk in an institution somewhere
who could ever have expected that cultural centres in Brussels would be so enthusiastic and would fight to be part of this story
Representations of people with a disability are shifting and evolving in society
If we can manage to do that without the usual pathos
It is not a coincidence that the poster shows happy disabled people who proudly raise their clenched fists."
"When you see The Choolers Division going at it on stage
while to them an audience of underground artists trying to be as punk as possible are immediately reduced to being a group of has-beens
Their natural way of being in the world deconstructs all the things we try so hard to construct."
when I first organised the workshops at La 'S'
I realised very quickly that I should shelve my own artistic aspirations because I encountered people who were exploding with talent
I could only try to valorise that by focusing on what they can do
instead of traveling the same old route and focusing on all the things they are unable or are not allowed to do
The realisation that you are not only perceived as being a person with a disability
Art is an incredible means to enable them to develop a positive identity."

Huy: Belgian territory was hit this week by dramatic floods
which caused 7 deaths and 100 people missing in the provinces of Liège and Namur
cities where the Salesian works and houses are numerous

Raphael” institute suffered serious damage
especially in the welding workshop with damage estimated at over 100,000 euros
the refectory and the kitchen were also flooded
A team of about ten people took up the challenge of removing it and I was able to see the result of their efforts in the last two days," explained Fr Luc Herpoel
a Salesian from the Don Bosco community in Liege
The Don Bosco school in Verviers was also seriously damaged
all the machinery in the workshops has been lost
An appeal was therefore made for volunteers to help clear the area and clean up
At the spiritual center of Farnières
the community immediately mobilized to prepare meals for the victims of these serious floods and to host
with the games room and storage totally flooded
"The water reached us up to mid-calf and so we had to leave," says Sister Joëlle Drouin
the games and other materials were stored on the shelves and can be recovered

The animators were very creative and the children had a lot of fun
were happy to entrust their children to us
especially to their farms,” adds Sister Joëlle
which is located in the highest part of the city
"The young people were frightened and we received warning messages
even if it was a difficult moment," continues Fr Luc

to commemorate those who died in the floods
Post Time wins the Carter Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack
The $279,000 Carter Handicap (G2) was a doppelganger of sorts for trainer Brittany Russell
though there were a couple of noticeable differences
Post Time also received credit for only a grade 2 win as the 126th edition of a race that produced the famed 1944 triple-dead-heat for first was downgraded from its 2023 grade 1 status
"How rude that they downgraded it after Doppelganger won it. How rude!" Russell said through a laugh after her husband, Sheldon Russell, guided Post Time to a neck victory over Castle Chaos
"I can't believe we did it two years in a row."
While Russell would not commit to what's next for Post Time, the prospect of a start in the prestigious one-mile Metropolitan Handicap (G1) June 8 at Saratoga Race Course surely is something to consider
It's something to think about," she said
"(Charles) loves to race in Maryland and race at home but we need to think of other things now."
Post Time has produced some of the greatest thrills in the sport for a woman who has been associated with racing for most of her life
"I was born in New York but grew up in Maryland
These beautiful animals can make you so proud
I'm very fortunate to (work with) people like Brittany and Sheldon."
but the favorite edged away to cover the seven furlongs in 1:24

Reasoned Analysis entered the Bay Shore off his maiden win Feb
That race was his first in which he did not get bumped at the break.
"I just wanted to leave my horse very comfortable," Cancel said
Brown gave credit to his assistant trainer Dan Stupp for recognizing the horse was ready
"Eric was patient and timed it just right to start his run."
The colt was purchased for $100,000 as a short yearling during the 2022 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale by Sand Hill Bloodstock
