A 17-year-old at Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School (BKWHS) is proving that sometimes
our perceived weaknesses can actually be our biggest strengths
Dayne Coates was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome—a neurological disorder characterized by sudden and repetitive movements or vocalizations called “tics”—at 3 years old
the basketball player has struggled with extreme frustration over how the syndrome impacts his game
After years of determination and concentration
his right shooting hand separates from the ball; his left hand guides the ball up his right elbow to his shooting hand; then he launches it
Coates’ unique shot gained national attention at the Bulldogs’ game against Whitehall in February
in which he scored four three-pointers and reached a game-high of 16 points
BKWHS emerged from the season undefeated (26-0) and earned a spot at the Class C state title game (which they won
and teammates have long recognized his potential for exceptional performance
it’s been a slower process for Coates himself to truly feel confident in his abilities
it seems he’s finally coming into his own thanks to his support system’s belief in him

‘I think that competition suits me perfectly’: Westerlo defender eyeing Bundesliga move in the summer | OneFootballGet Belgian & Dutch Football News
In an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, Westerlo defender Tuur Rommens has revealed he wants to move to the Bundesliga in the summer
The defender made it clear that he feels he is ready to take a step up in his career and would like to leave the club when the transfer window begins
Rommens said ‘I think that competition suits me perfectly…The atmosphere
the stadiums and the supporters also appeal to me’
No clubs have been named as of yet, but there have reportedly been German sides, alongside clubs from the other top European leagues interested in the former Genk man. The 22-year-old could have moved to Saudi Arabia in the summer
He also revealed how he does not see the prospect of moving to a bigger club in Belgium because most clubs already have players that can play at left-back
Asked if he had to choose this summer between a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia and a Bundesliga side, the defender said that he prefers to move to Germany because of the level of football. Rommens has played 36 games for Westerlo this season

there is nothing that I love to do more than cover local sports. On Tuesday night I had an awesome road trip to cover some boys and girls high school basketball. The gym was packed and the community was so bought in for both teams. It is always an amazing sight that gives me so much joy. Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:
Berne-Knox-Westerlo boys' basketball team completed an undefeated 20-0 regular season on Tuesday when they won the WAC conference championship with a win over Duanesburg
Undefeated seasons are rare in any sport and BKW the number one ranked Class C team in the State were able to accomplish an incredible feat
Let's see how far they can go in the postseason
They will be favored to win the Section II Championship but it's possible they would need to beat Duanesburg for a third time this season to reach the top
Nobody can sleep on Spa Catholic because they are a very dangerous team entering the Class C playoffs
Now the brackets and seedings are coming out on both the boys and girls side for the brackets. It is the best time of year for local high school basketball. They should call it February Madness even though it ends up finishing in March. There are so many good teams in all of the classes that will make it that much more compelling this year. Let the local high school basketball madness begin

The success of Alfie Devine and Luka Vuskovic will likely mean Spurs will send more young players to Belgium in the future
This summer, Tottenham Hotspur sent two of its young players — 20-year-old midfielder Alfie Devine and 17-year-old central defender Luka Vuskovic — on loan to Belgium Jupiler League club Westerlo for the season
who will technically join Spurs this summer from Croatian side Hajduk Split when he turns 18
Vuskovic has been a revelation for Westerlo
locking down a starting position and scoring four goals so far from the back line
Now, according to a press release from Westerlo
things have gone so well with both sides pleased with the loans that the two clubs are working towards arranging a future partnership that will continue to see Spurs send promising young talent to the Belgian club
officials from both clubs met recently “to explore deeper and more extensive collaboration opportunities in the future.”
KVC Westerlo’s sports department and Tottenham Hotspur’s have maintained close contact
Thanks to Tottenham’s careful monitoring of their loaned talents
a monthly review meeting is scheduled to go over Luka and Alfie’s performance reports

The impressive performances of Vuskovic and Devine on the field for Westerlo have proven to be a catalyst for strengthening future collaborations between KVC Westerlo and Tottenham Hotspur off the field as well
As a first gesture of appreciation for the current partnership
This may be the first step toward a future exchange of ideas
exchanging team jerseys doesn’t seem like a very big deal
a first step towards establishing a more robust relationship between the clubs that will hopefully be more beneficial
We don’t know yet what a future collaboration will look like
More youngsters heading to Belgium for development is almost certain
but who knows what else — possible preseason friendlies
Right of first refusal for any Westerlo talent that may be Premier League level
Other Premier League clubs have had relationships with continental clubs in smaller leagues — think of Chelsea’s now-defunct relationship with Dutch side Vitesse that saw many of their fringe and academy players shipped there on loan
I doubt we’ll see something that extensive
but having a few clubs like Westerlo in your back pocket that would be interested in developing young players for some mutual benefit is always a good idea
We’ll have to see if anything develops from this new relationship in the future
Vuskovic and Devine both look like solid talents that will help Spurs in the future
and you can draw a line between that development and their loan experience in Belgium this season
