The driver had lost control of his vehicle after it had been involved in a collision with a car driven by a pregnant woman. The woman had been distracted by a 6-year-old child that was crying on the back seat. She turned round to see what was wrong with the child and while doing swerved off course, hitting the truck. The lorry driver lost control of his vehicle and smashed through the crash barrier and into the River Leie. The driver of the lorry, a 34-year-old Polish man drowned in the river. The accident happened at around 6.10pm on Tuesday evening in Wielsbeke (West Flanders). The lorry was driving from Wielsbeke to Waregem (West Flanders). The car driver is a 30-year-old woman from Ingelmunster.    Tom Janssens of the West Flanders public prosecutor's office department told VRT News that "She had her 6-year-old child on the back seat of the car. Suddenly the child started crying. She turned to the child, and this distracted her from the road. She deviated from her lane and drove into the left-hand front wheel of the truck coming in the opposite direction. The truck became out of control, and it drove through the crash barriers, into the Leie." Three bystanders jumped into the river to try to free the driver from his cab. However, they were unsuccessful. It was only over an hour and a half after the accident that divers were able to retrieve the driver’s body. Text description provided by the architects. How do you create a future-proof corporate HQ for hundreds of employees, a car park, and a new green space on a fairly modest plot of land? In 2018 OYO won the pitch (and is nominated for the BREEAM EXCELLENT accreditation) by asking and answering this question for Agristo, one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of potato products in the world. Our concept involved concentrating all 3 elements into 1 structure, maximizing the available space for development, and at the same time separating this from busy factory workflows. To do this, the design had to break with conventional square/rectangular layouts. We created an organic shape to take full advantage of the designated plot and manipulated the volumetry to provide all staff with natural light throughout the day. © Tim Van de VeldeSecondly, seeing the company’s desire for a “green space” for what it really was (an investment in employee wellbeing) OYO decided to make green spaces an important and considered feature of the building itself. Terraces on each level of the building provide employees with equal and easy access to the outdoors, getting everyone closer to nature. Flora also encircles the building, providing more visible greenery and encouraging greater biodiversity. it’s still a family-run business and it likes to think of its employees as family members It believes it has a genuine responsibility to look after its staff which it sees as an extension of that family That’s why we designed a singular human-centered structure that encourages people to move between different spaces ignore departmental silos and come together Its huge atrium fills the building with natural light and makes staff feel a part of something large and green terraces add up to a natural and healthy home for the Agristo family You'll now receive updates based on what you follow Personalize your stream and start following your favorite authors If you have done all of this and still can't find the email Receive our weekly Newsletterand set tailored daily news alerts Beaulieu International Group’s (B.I.G.) industrial property and business interruption insurer Industrial, Transport/Aerospace, Interiors, Agriculture Representatives of FM Global Management and Beaulieu Fibres International at the Award ceremony on 20 February 2019 a leading polyolefin staple fibre producer has been awarded a Highly Protected Risk (HPR) status for its production site in Wielsbeke a designation that means a facility meets the highest industry standards for property protection Beaulieu International Group’s (B.I.G.) industrial property and business interruption insurer for the past three years a unique concept that supports the Group in reducing its exposure to loss and increasing its business resilience A dedicated worldwide team of engineers focuses on providing assistance and protection of its assets helping the Group to achieve a higher level of risk protection The BFI site produces high-performance fibres for a large variety of applications and market segments It scored well in its FM Global assessment which focused on aspects including fire protection cyber risks and consequent business interruption Beaulieu Fibres International Project Team at the Award ceremony on 20 February 2019 Its overall risk mark of 83 ranks it within the top 25% of its industry for fire risk prevention and protection “This HPR fibre production site reinforces strongly our supply chain security and demonstrates our engagement towards our customers and partners Our contingency planning and risk management are essential well-considered elements within our long-term business strategy to demanding sectors such as Automotive Flooring industries,” said Maria Teresa Tomaselli BFI Wielsbeke is the fourth facility in the Group to attain HPR status Fire risk prevention is a part of the Group’s broader risk management activities is investing in increasing the level of protection at all its plants to protect business continuity Beaulieu Fibres International received the Highly Protected Risk (HPR) Award at a ceremony on 20 February 2019 are also implementing a number of safety programmes to maintain strong safety records and further raise awareness of workplace safety “I am proud of Beaulieu Fibres International for achieving the highly-regarded FM Global HPR Award and setting an example for the whole Beaulieu International Group This positive step reflects the strong commitment of the Engineered Products business unit and the rest of the Group to improve safety and protect our staff workplaces and production facilitie,” commented Karena Cancilleri www.beaulieufibres.com Beaulieu Yarns awarded FM Global HPR status Americhem China named High-Tech Enterprise
