Second victory of the month for the young Belgian
Leander Van Hautegem delivered Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team’s tenth success of the season in Dwars door Wingene
the 156.1km one-day race held on Belgian soil Saturday afternoon
Ten days after capturing his first victory of the year at Course de côte Herbeumont
The 21-year-old attacked with a couple of laps to go and opened what looked to be a comfortable lead over the chasers
but on the final lap another rider joined him
The two worked well together as the group behind was closing in
Van Hautegem surprised his opponent by launching the sprint from the distance
and kept the power all the way to the line
where he put his arms in the air to celebrate the win
“I am incredibly happy with this victory
I felt good today and was part of a very strong team
I was confident enough to make a move early
and although I was joined by another rider in the final kilometers
I had enough left to open my sprint early and leave everything out there on my way to this win”
who was joined on the podium by teammate Senne Hulsmans

a processing company from Wingene in West Flanders
has celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special brew
Wingene is the capital of Flemish pig-rearing and appropriately Veos’s birthday beer was made from pig's blood
One of the company’s core businesses is converting pig's blood into potable water
During the open day to mark their anniversary visitors had an opportunity to taste the beer
Veos specialises in processing by-products from the food industry
the company installed a water treatment plant that converts pigs’ blood into potable water
This saves 150,000 litres of water per day
workers at the company developed the Veoske
“Our beer team put their shoulders to the wheel and after a lot of tasting came up with a fresh summer beer that still has quite a lot of power
but we are not ruling out another stunt next year," says Veos co-CEO of Robert Slee
The beer was popular with visitors at the open day
easy-to-drink beer," says Lorenz Lambrecht
"A nice blonde beer that still has some spice
They say it's made from pig's blood

BRUSSELS — It seems a mystery worthy of Hercule Poirot
Agatha Christie’s fictional Belgian detective: A lord goes missing from his château
leaving behind a spent cartridge and a trail of blood
Belgian newspapers Saturday were chewing over what’s being called the “Murder at the Castle” — the case of 34-year-old Stijn Saelens
a large turreted affair about 50 miles northwest of Brussels
Foul play was suspected immediately: Newspapers and broadcasters have reported that blood was found inside the house and along the driveway
buried in a forest about a 15-minute drive away — a day after police arrested three people
including the lord’s father-in-law and brother-in-law
identified by a major Belgian news website as Andre and Peter Gyselbrecht
They were arrested along with a friend of the father-in-law’s named Pierre Serry
The broadcaster RTL reported that investigators had discovered that Saelens was in debt and planned to take his family to Australia to live in a Russian community called Ringing Cedars
A lawyer for the father-in-law said he was innocent and had a “perfect alibi.”
Three were detained and questioned Thursday
RTL reported that a plan of the lord’s château was found in their car
A crime reporter for the broadcaster VRT said the detentions made it appear that investigators suspected a contract killing
a mediator and the people who committed the slaying
“It’s not clear why these people have been detained,” the reporter
“But it is a meaningful development.”
The newspaper La Capitale focused Saturday on the story it said Saelens’s wife
had given to investigators — that her husband told her he wanted to be alone in the château the morning he disappeared
The newspaper also reported that Elysabeth Gyselbrecht told investigators that she went to Pierre Serry’s home the day after her husband’s disappearance and confronted him
“Do you have something to do with the disappearance of my husband?” she told investigators she asked Serry
To which Serry is reported to have replied
accompanied by the presence of a police crane in the area
that the police had received specific information about the location
That only heightened media interest in the case
Two journalists were detained after entering the area that had been cordoned off by police

The men finished ahead of the University of North Carolina (127)
“It feels pretty good,” said Duane Ross
“Any time you can come into someone else's house and get a win is impressive by any means
To come in and square off with these teams such as UNC
what I've been trying to instill in our student-athletes from day one is
believing that we can compete with the best in the country at any time
we have the training now we just have to have the belief.”
The first-place win for the men came down to the last event
the men were down by three points against UNC
With the 4x4 A-team not being complete because some of the runners were sore from previous events during the day
The relay team knew that they could not place any lower than second in order to win the meet. The team of Barry Harris, Darius Bogertey
Jeffrey Lewis and Josiah Elliott earned second-place in 3:19.96
“I think this one was a big one and this was one of the reasons I wanted to come to this competition,” said Ross
these teams here that you see competing on television during the NCAA Final Four and football bowl games and what not we can go into their house and be just as good as they are.”
The meet came down to the final race because the Aggie men were able to obtain a number of first-place finishes. Junior Marquis Noble had an outstanding performance today placing top three in three different events
Noble got first in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 22.10
He also got first in the long jump with a personal best jump of 23-feet
Both first-place finishes scored 10 points for the Aggie
In the 60 meter dash Noble placed second running 6.92 also bringing in eight points for the team

“Right now our athletes have to train their bodies to respond on demand
Here we are leaving and have to get right back up tomorrow morning and come back and hit it again
They have to be able to do this at these championship meets at a very high level so this is all about preparation for the future.”

According to Belgian broadcasters RTBF, the communes of Wingene and Lichtervelde in western Flanders introduced the blanket ban.
The mayors of these communes suggest that throwing snowballs is potentially as dangerous as throwing stones. Not all communes have embraced the ban, however.
Courtrai mayor Vincent Van Quickenborne posted a picture on Facebook on Monday of himself covered with snow. The mayor made it clear he had no plans to ban snowballs in his commune.

A Belgian judge has arrested three suspects in connection the murder of the lord of Wingene Castle
his brother-in-law and a 61 year-old man from Aalter have been arrested and stand accused of murder
but blood was found in the castle hall and along the drive
Detectives have also recovered a spent cartridge fuelling speculation that Mr Saelens has been murdered by relatives unhappy with his plans to emigrate to Australia
On Wednesday the police detained six people
They include four suspects who have been detained at an earlier occasion
There are the estate agent's father-in-law and brother-in-law as well as a number of Chechen nationals known to the police
Prosecutors are now believed to be thinking that Stijn Saelens is the victim of a contract killing
Four of the suspects were first detained on 4 February but later freed due to lack of evidence
Public prosecutors were only prepared to say that the detentions now were the result of new elements in the investigation
VRT crime reporter Philip Heymans suggests that it looks like investigators are thinking along the lines of a contract killing involving somebody who ordered the killing
a mediator and the people who committed the murder: "It's not clear why these people have been detained
The six people detained were questioned overnight and appeared before a judge in the course of Thursday
34-year-old Stijn Saelens (photo) disappeared on 31 January from Wingene Castle where he was living with wife and children

Police are still searching for the remains of Stijn Saelens and are searching the chalet that is located in the hamlet of Maria-Aalter and its surrounding woodland
counsel for the missing estate agent's father-in-law
told reporters he still believes in his client’s innocence
"He says that he's totally innocent" the renowned lawyer told VRT News
"I believe him until the contrary is proved
Experience tells me that killers are very nervous or that they try to repress things and that shows in their body language
but of course I cannot look into his soul"
