an Austrian company controlled by Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund through Amber Infrastructure
already operates one of the three biggest photovoltaic facilities in Bulgaria
In 2020 it bought a solar park on 100 hectares with a 60.4 MW peak and 50 MW in connection power in Karadzhalovo near Plovdiv. The other one, Pobeda, with a matching capacity, is in Aytos near the Black Sea Coast, according to a public register. Separately, SENS LSG finished a solar power plant of 66 MW in peak capacity last year in Dalgo Pole in the Plovdiv area
Nikola Gazdov, who manages Enery’s Chirpan project of 160 MW, told Divident.EU that if the permitting process proceeds as planned
the installation can start before the end of the year
He also estimated that the photovoltaic park would be built within one year
Of note, Eurohold is rushing in the meantime to complete a solar power plant of 124 MW in peak capacity south of Sofia while developing the project for another 50 MW segment
Eurohold is set to soon take over the title of the holder of the largest photovoltaic facility in Bulgaria from Enery
Gazdov estimated the investment at more than EUR 102 million
but added that the exact sum and the capacity would be known when the documentation is complete
Chirpan is named after a nearby town in the Stara Zagora region
In 2020, Enery secured a preliminary approval from the Municipality of Haskovo in southern Bulgaria for its 400 MW solar park project
The Austrian company recently bought renewable electricity plants in Romania with 81 MW in total capacity
wind and hydropower plants with 268 MW in total capacity in Bulgaria
The company has 3 GW in its renewable energy project pipeline
In November, Enery completed the acquisition of Jade Power Trust’s 81 MW portfolio in Romania
It consists of two wind farms in the Dobrogea region
two photovoltaic systems and two micro hydropower plants
the Austrian firm boosted its operating capacity in the country to 273 MW

Bulgaria (Reuters) - A team of excavators in Bulgaria has resumed a search for fossils of an ape-like creature which may be the oldest-known direct ancestor of man and whose discovery has challenged the central hypothesis that humankind originated in Africa. The Graecopithecus freybergi
found in 2009 near the Bulgarian town of Chirpan
where excavations have now restarted."It would be great to find a whole skeleton but a thigh would also help us a lot," Professor Nikolai Spassov
head of Bulgaria's National Museum of Natural History
told Reuters. The scientific consensus long has been that humanity's ape-like ancestors
the oldest-known hominin was Sahelanthropus
which lived 6-7 million years ago in Chad. But Spassov hopes new fossils will back up the theory that hominins originated in the Eastern Mediterranean."They have most probably migrated to Africa due to climate change," he said.Surrounded by dangerous predators in a savannah-type environment
life would have been hard for a Graecopithecus freybergi
A male would have weighed around 40 kg and a female around 30 kg
Spassov said.Scientists in Greece are also expected to resume the search for remains of the hominin
and excavation work will begin in neighbouring Macedonia in September.Reporting by Angel Krasimirov; Editing by Raissa Kasolowsky

Peyo Kracholov Yavorov was born 136 years ago in the town of Chirpan (Central Bulgaria)
He was destined to become one of the greatest Bulgarian poets
we are to mark the 100th anniversary since his tragic death
we can definitely say that Yavorov’s pieces are the most captivating ones in this country
Todor Ivanov who is the keeper of the museum of Peyo Yavorov in his home town of Chirpan and Chairman of the Yavorov Foundation told us about the life of this great Bulgarian poet
Peyo started to write poetry when he was only seven-years-old
His literature teacher was highly impressed by his poetry
At the insistence of his father who believed that men had to earn money and women had to stay at home and take care of the family
Peyo Yavorov left school and became a telegraph operator in the coastal town of Pomorie
a book of his poetry was published in the city of Varna including poems such as Calliope
In 1902 Yavorov departed with the revolutionary detachment headed by Mihail Chakov to fight for the liberation of the region of Macedonia which was still under the Ottoman rule
Mihail Chakov himself wrote later in his memoirs
“In 1903 he spent time in Macedonia with the revolutionary detachment led by Gotse Delchev
After the uprising of 1903 was crushed and Gotse Delchev was killed
Yavorov was in deep crisis and wrote the biography of the revolutionary
He also published a second collection of poems.”
the sister of writer Petko Todorov was the biggest love of Peyo Yavorov
The poet dedicated his poem Fair Pair of Eyes to her
The woman died from tuberculosis at the age of 20
After her death Yavorov temporarily stopped writing poetry
He spent half a year in Paris in 1910 bringing red roses to the grave of his beloved every single day
Later Yavorov met the daughter of politician Petko Karavelov at a trip near Sofia
“Lora Karavelova had just returned from a catholic school in France
She knew 4 languages and played the piano but was engaged to a boring man for her – Dr
The power of attraction between the two was so strong that after their first meeting Yavorov wrote a poem that he was to dedicate to her 8 years later
before committing suicide with a bullet and poison
In 1908 Peyo Yavorov became playwright in the National Theatre in Sofia and was loved by everyone
Lora sent him flowers and postcards but he tried to avoid her
He had a bad feeling that this woman would bring him sadness
However they eventually became a couple and on August 19
During that time Yavorov was a representative of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization
He used to keep weapons and money of the organization
After yet another family row on November 30
1913 Lora snatched a gun out of Yavorov’s hands and shot herself in the heart
Half an hour later he tried to follow her but only lost his sight.”
The relatives of Lora thought Yavorov shot her
1914 is the last year of the poet’s life
People called him murderer and he was fired from the theatre
Yavorov told his few left friends: “I Swear I did not kill Lora
On October 29 Yavorov took his own life using poison and a gun to make sure
The whole of Sofia that previously called him a killer went to his funeral
Literary critic Boyan Penev said at his funeral: “Currently we do not realize what we lose but decades or a century would pass and Bulgarians would find out what a genius he had.”
"You must have strong faith and pray - then the saint will help you and carry your prayer to God," says Father Georgi Markov of the Church of St

The poet crafts the lyrics for the song "Letter to Mom"
he is inspired by the fragrance of lilacs and the beauty of roses
Mirela Kostadinova You probably remember that unforgettable song that Emil Dimitrov sang in the 70s - "Letter to Mom"
It is set to music by the famous performer and lyrics by Pavel Matev
The poet writes the lyrics based on a real-life story
He had just finished middle school in his hometown of Orizovo
but the situation in his family is difficult
His brother is in prison and his father has sold their fields and sheep to save him
There is no bread in the house and it is impossible for young Pavel to continue in high school
The boy cries because his father is adamant - they have no financial means to send him to high school in Chirpan
a large sum for those times. Then in the poet's hometown
people came who would buy traditional costumes but also hair for wigs
The first years of Bulgarian cinema were probably its discovery phase
His mother Zlata sold her thick black hair
as Pavel Matev describes in his moving poem "Letter to Mom"
the necessary amount for the boy to enroll in high school
At this moment the son is deeply moved by this gesture
I can't even express with words what I feel
she can just lightly touch you with her worn-out hand but when she says "son"... She is illiterate back then "teachers didn't want girls" in school
But Zlata listened to her husband's stories and lamented her illiteracy
The mother of the future poet was a modest person - she always measured her words before saying something
She was hardworking - she worked in the fields and took care of household chores she even wove reeds from the cornfield into strong and beautiful rugs
The future poet resembled her physically. Although he spent his entire high school years without a jacket
wearing only a secondhand coat and his mother's knitted sweaters
Pavel Matev managed to graduate from high school
Throughout his life the poet writes about what he truly loves
yet it still seems to me that I haven't done the most beautiful and worthy thing..." Even as a child
Once while digging through the trash with friends
"What are you doing here?" Little Pavel replied
"We're collecting colorful bottles." And who knows why the man said
"Whoever collects bottles their mother will die." The child burst into tears and ran home to see if his mother was alive
but the boy's heart could not stop beating..
The saddest moment of his life was actually when she left this world
He dedicates a series of poems to his mother
Among them is "Return": Evening. And nothing can be heard
but I don't understand and I'm speechless
I thought that I knew well the Bulgarian word
yet I can't quite grasp this strange speech of a person overwhelmed with happiness
As a child Pavel Matel possessed a sharp sensitivity
While walking behind the plow on the fields
Hristo Nedelkov took them along with other students
who told them stories about her brother and showed them pictures
Their teacher also introduced them to Yavorov's brother
It was the same Atanas who would walk his blinded brother Peyo Yavorov through the streets after the tragedy with Lora
or if he had already developed other feelings
or perhaps for some 'Chirpan' reasons
But I must admit he treated me with affection like a child like his little brother
and he couldn't hide his love for me." Yavorov remains forever one of his favorite poets
Pavel Matev's mother remains a young widow
her husband passed away at the age of 58 from kidney disease
His mother-in-law was a harsh woman very strict with all her daughters-in-law even going as far as to beat them
would run away when she saw her grand-mother-in-law reach for a stick
The others were not allowed to move and she would beat them
until one of them called out: "You don't hit Zlata
because he is the youngest." The grand-mother-in-law replied: "Look at this
not Bejanova's." Zlata carried a real burden on her back from hardships
Pavel Matev's family lived in a one-storey house with two rooms
In the yard they had a barn and a long corridor
The house was about 300 meters from the center of the village
was a self-taught violinist and often played at weddings
and his son knew all the songs he performed
He had a passion for roosters and his roosters sang the most beautiful in the whole village
He was a hunter shooting rabbits and ducks and had a weakness for hunting dogs which he raised and trained
He was one of four sons of Grandfather Matyo who was a miller
but the mill belonged to some village leader or headman. The future poet was named after his grandfather
the father of his mother - a colorful and hardworking man who lived to be 106 years old
his mother was burned alive by the Turks and his father was killed before his eyes
He suffered greatly from this throughout his life
Near his home there was a mound and in his old age he would climb it to watch the sunset and the world around him
To this day it is known as Grandfather Pavel's Mound
The old man loved his grandson Pavel very much because he bore his name
Pavel Matev survived the powerful Chirpan earthquake
"My mother used to tell me that at this time I was at the sawmill and was chopping wood with a small axe because I saw my father doing the same
Others were able to save themselves." At that time a school and a clock tower were being built in the village
but the earthquake destroyed them to their foundations
The Tsar arrived by train and impressed the boy
He headed towards the school with the children following him
his bare feet covered in dust from the rough road
The villagers took off their aprons and laid them on the streets for the Tsar to pass. The boy wandered along the village roads swam in the Maritsa river went to the mill with his father and while they waited for their turn
his father taught him to recognize the Evening Star
He especially liked the faint ridge of the Milky Way and the story about it - how a peasant had been carrying straw and it spilled across the sky
twirling their mustaches around the night fires
the boy and his father loaded the sacks and went back to Orizovo
the child watched the horses grazing in the meadows. In the poems of Pavel Matev
the image of this strong and beautiful animal is present in his most powerful works
The horses inspire him in his entire body of work
It is difficult to forget these lines: "From the great night grass
do not die on the white snow!" - poetic words that have become one of the most popular and unforgettable songs by "Sturchte"
As a child he was particularly fascinated by little horses later he wrote the poem "Young horses drink water"
He considers them to be the most beautiful creatures
But his family due to financial difficulties
"We had only once acquired a mare for one or two years
The horse is an example of perfection for me of movement and harmony..
it is like a stretched bowstring and possesses one of the most beautiful proportions in nature
He seems to be constantly preparing for a flight..
"Pavel Matev never learns to ride a horse he only watches and enjoys it
he spends around two months as commander of a mine clearance unit
and is then called to the guards in Haskovo
"I once asked them to give me a calmer horse because it was a question of real riding
Riding is a skill that is difficult to achieve
And they gave me the wildest horse that when he starts running
It was like an amusement park for the city but now it's filled with villas
We went with our horses in that area and they shouted: let's go a little faster
And when my horse started running!" It turned out that they gave me a stallion who cannot stand being in the middle but insists on being first
And it's clear that you are torturing the horse because you don't know how to sit on its back
" In 1949 he graduated with a degree in Slavic Philology from Sofia University
who was his strictest judge in poetry and her evaluations often coincided with those of the writer Vesselin Andreev
who was a friend of Pavel Matev. He worked for some time in the Cinematography Committee
was deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine "Plamak"
and later editor-in-chief of the magazine "Septemvri"
He was chairman of the Committee for Art and Culture for nine years
The first book of poems "In the Ranks" is released
At that time Pavel Matev was published in various editions but he dreams of being published in "Literary Front"
which determines the recognition of the author
the writer has already received his baptism
The editor of the newspaper at that time is Nikola Furnadzhiev and the editor is Radoy Ralin
he personally takes his poems and Furnadzhiev prints a few of them
Pavel Matev gathered courage and entered with a scroll of poems to the editor-in-chief
Furnadzhiev told him to come back in ten days
Pavel Matev fulfilled the task and appeared after two weeks. Furnadzhiev took the folder and slowly unfolded page by page: "This poem works
In the end he threw out a few told him to take the folder and write ten new poems and bring them to him after six months
Furnadzhiev read the poems again and announced: "A book will be released"
Pavel Matev experienced the joy of his first poetry collection
The books that give him confidence as a poet are: "Debt" (1955) and "Genealogy" (1963)
Throughout his creative journey he was inspired by the scent of lilacs and the beauty of roses
For him the most valuable virtue is honesty
His ideal for earthly happiness is goodness
"I recognize no superiority other than kindness towards people," he used to say
His greatest hope was to write a poem that would never be forgotten
A series of his poetic miniatures become the lyrics of some of the most beloved songs for Bulgarians
"Are you in a dream?" performed by the one and only Lili Ivanova
all of which tell stories of a rich creative world filled with images that leave a mark on the human soul

In 2019 we mark the 141st anniversary since the birth of Bulgaria’s world poet Peyo Totev Hadzhiivanov Kracholov, best known under his penname Peyo Yavorov given to him by renowned Bulgarian writer Pencho Slaveykov in 1899
curator of the poet’s birth house-museum in the town of Chirpan
describes Yavorov as a world poet may be that his works have been translated into 13 languages
and also because of the periods of his life Yavorov spent in Austria
which had a significant impact on his writing
The poetry and prose that Yavorov left behind were significantly influenced also by his participation in the national liberation struggles in Macedonia as well as by his own social and existential ideas and perceptions of the world
An important part of his lyrical works belongs to the poems dedicated to the two women in the poet’s life: Mina Todorova
and the daughter of the Bulgarian statesman Petko Karavelov – Lora Karavelova
and an active participant in the struggles for the liberation of Macedonia
Yavorov first revealed his poetic talent in his school years
stopped his son from school and they both started work in the telegraph service in Chirpan
his passion for poetry was not quenched - Yavorov used to spend entire nights reading
and so at one point light started to irritate him
His request to close one of the windows in his room surprised his parents
The years went by yet Yavorov's desire to stay away from the light seemed to grow more and more
when he was transferred to work in the coastal town of Pomorie in 1900
the locals began to call him “the shadow” as he moved away from anything that could damage his eyes
The fear of losing his sight seems to have been justified as14 years later he really went blind
which she committed in front of his very eyes
Yavorov lost the meaning of his life and tried to put an end to it
The first attempt proved unsuccessful but the shot in the temple blinded him forever
Crushed by this as well as by the slanders and accusations which spread like lightning across Sofia that he was guilty of Lora's death
The reason we go back to those stormy days of the poet’s life full of dramatic losses and frustrations are the January Days dedicated to the poet which begin on the day of his birth
The tradition of this literary event dates back 51 years ago
More about this year’s edition and why it puts the highlight on the Armenian community in Bulgaria
we learn from the chairman of the Yavorov Foundation
„This year we will once again put ablaze the symbolic flame of Yavor's poetry in front of his monument erected in October 1933 with the support of Chirpan residents and the Armenian community of Plovdiv
The flame will be ignited by Yavorov's prominent researcher Tsvetan Rakyovski
This year we also mark 120 years since the writing of Yavorov’s poem Armenci (Armenians)
influenced by his meetings with Armenians who described to him the heinous destiny of their people
In the evening of the opening day there will be a poetic recitation by poets Kamelia Kondova
The evening will end with a concert of Svetoglas Quartet
The next day we will unveil an exhibition of Plovdiv-based Armenian artists
which will be followed by the premiere of the Kostadin Bonev’s film “Izkorenyavane” (Uprooting) dedicated to the Armenian Genocide
we will present a new volume dedicated to Yavorov
comprising 400 pages of academic papers on the poet's life
They are authored by researchers from major Bulgarian universities as well as from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.”
An integral part of Yavorov’s Days is the bestowing of the National Poetry Prize named after the poet
it is awarded every five years and constitutes a plaque made by sculptor Vladimir Kondarev
Among its holders are distinguished Bulgarian poets such as Pavel Matev
Yavorov’s January Days are hosted by the home of the poet
as 2019 also marks 65 years since the opening of Peyo Yavorov’s birth house-museum in Chirpan

Renowned Bulgarian artist Nikola Manev passed away on August 23in Paris
The artist felt ill and went alone to the hospital
At the entrance he lost consciousness and doctors diagnosed with aneurysm
Nikola Manev was born in the town of Pazardzhik
but he used to live in Chirpan and graduated from the high school of art in Sofia
In 1962 he enrolled in the French Academy of Fine Arts
where he graduated in painting in the class of Professor Maurice Brianchon
At that time he settled in Paris but he had been travelling a lot in order to find inspiration for his paintings
Manev had more than 137 one-man exhibitions and participated in a number of joint exhibitions and biennales
More than 3000 of his works are part of private and museum collections all across the world
“In Bulgaria I received poor marks for painting and in Paris I received a gold medal
There is no firm truth and everything is subjective
But one thing can put you in despair and the other can give you wings
We are looking for gold but we do not know how to find it
That is why we dig constantly until gold emerges from somewhere
An artists wants to create something different
That is why each painting is a new world and each painting is a product of different inspiration
”Nikola Manev once said in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio
His son Alexander Manev said the artist’s wish was to be buried in “Chirpan ground.” The town of Chirpan is where the artist grew as a child and the place where his gallery is situated
According to Manev’s will the gallery is left to the town
The gallery shares a yard with the PeyoYavorov Museum
teacher and musician Petko Radev who died a few months ago his friends and colleagues jointly with the Municipality of Chirpan organize a concert on 13 April
The event is on the occasion of his 85th birth anniversary
Slavyani and Konush will take part in the concert
Only few musicians boast equally great accomplishments in both classical music and music based on folklore
The career of world-acclaimed clarinetist Petko Radev is a rare example of this combination
During his lifetime he worked to promote the prestige of folk musicians
He advised them how to manage their repertoire
encouraged them to respect the purity of Thracian folklore and to stick to the sound of clarinetists from the past
For many years he was a special guest at all folklore events and festivals in Thrace (Trakiya)
and inherited the musicality genes from his father
As a child he learned to play his dad’s clarinet
Young Petko was fascinated by wedding music when he first listened to the Parvomay band and its clarinetist Stoycho Kuzmov
His decision to choose the clarinet took him to the High School of Music in Sofia
and he later continued his studies at the National Academy of Music “Pancho Vladigerov” in the class of prof
As a student (1957) Petko Radev won the First Prize at the International music competition for wind instruments in Geneva
He worked as first clarinetist in leading symphony orchestras – the Symphony Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio
In the course of eleven years he was soloist in the orchestra of Teatro alla Scala in Milan under the baton of great conductors – Claudio Abbado
he always gave time to his beloved Thracian music
Petko Radev founded a band for which he arranged and recorded his folklore-based instrumental music and songs for celebrated folk singers like Penka Pavlova
He spent a lot of time teaching as clarinet professor in the Sofia and Plovdiv music academies
“My entire creative life is associated with Petko Radev
I was a pupil in Sadovo when I started playing the clarinet
I heard some of his recordings on the radio and was so impressed that I wanted to imitate him
Apart from a brilliant technique he also produced a wonderful sound playing the instrument
He heard about me and came to the technical school in Sadovo
I played the clarinet for him and this was the beginning of our friendship
He told me that I had to study music and develop my skills
His advice was that I should not limit myself to folklore-based music
I enrolled in the High School of Music in Plovdiv and then in the National Academy of Music in Sofia under his leadership
I am very happy with everything that I learned there
Petko Radev was my teacher not only in music but in life as well
He used to say that there should be an ongoing friendly competition and fellow-feeling; that one should opt for lifelong learning expending one’s scope in music
In fact he gave me an instrument as a present
I cannot find the right words to describe this wonderful man
Both my sons graduated the Academy in Sofia in his class and went for post-graduate studies to Juilliard School
Regarding my compositions he advised me to arrange the motifs in a way that would make the work melodious and pleasant to the ear of listeners; to avoid blabbering
Everything should be worthy and meaningful
A musician should not get detached from the style of his or her native region and his or her music should be an expression of his or her soul
This was precious advice from my teacher and friend Petko Radev.”

we mark 143 years since the birth of Bulgaria’s great poet Peyo Yavorov whose life and work are closely connected with the liberation movement Internal Adrianople Revolutionary Organization in Macedonia
Yavorov was born in 1878 in the town of Chirpan (Central South Bulgaria)
like an entire generation of Bulgarians born shortly before and after the Liberation of Bulgaria in 1878
Peyo was obsessed with the idea of liberating Bulgarian land in Macedonia
which remained part of the Ottoman Empire under the Treaty of Berlin of July 13
It was the aspiration for unification of his fragmented homeland that made Yavorov join the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization in 1897
Peyo Yavorov was editor of various publications of the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization
He became one of Gotse Delchev's closest comrades and his first biographer
Yavorov volunteered in a Macedonia-Edirne military unit
conquered the town of Kavala without a single bullet being fired
Yavorov's work and poetry are imbued with tragic lyricism caused by his dramatic life
Yavorov is remembered for the finesse of his love poetry
Most of his masterpieces were written in Nancy
the poet's second great love and inspiration
Literary critics often compare Yavorov to Charles Baudelaire because of the strong emotions the French poet puts into his poems
Others find Paul Verlaine's finesse in his lyrics
but there is no trace of imitation in Yavorov’s poetry
