The Minister of Environment and Water Asen Lichev signed orders for updating the areas of two protected territories – the Mantaritsa Reserve and the maintained Varbov Dol Reserve
The two protected areas were declared in 1968 by order of the Minister of Forestry and Forest Industry
the map material for the initial delineation of their boundaries was not clear enough
which required updating their area given that more accurate map material is currently available in digital form
which meets modern requirements for accuracy
as well as the normative requirements of the Cadastre and Property Register Act
The area of the Mantaritsa Reserve has been updated from 10,692 decares to 10,887,946 decares
while the maintained Varbov Dol Reserve - from 706 decares to 716,654 decares
The updated data on the area of the two reserves will be entered in the State Register of Protected Areas maintained by the MOEW
The publication of the orders in the State Gazette is forthcoming
The Mantaritsa Reserve is located on the land of the town of Rakitovo
It was created to preserve the habitats of capercaillies and the pristine nature of coniferous forests
It covers areas with an altitude between 1200 and 1900 meters
Maintained reserve “Varbov dol” in the land of the village of Debelets
was declared in protection of mixed plantations of blackthorn
