Brazilian pilots have triumphed at the sixth FAI Pan-American Paragliding championships
which were held 15-22 September in Andradas
Brazil’s Rafael Barros won the overall competition
with Argentina’s Hernán Pitocco coming second and Ronnie Koerich (BRA) taking third
There were five valid tasks of about 80km each (407km in total) flown at the competition
The first task was cancelled due to weather
The main rivalry throughout the event was between Ronnie and Rafael
In the women’s competition the top finishers were Marcella Uchoa (BRA)
which theoretically is not enough to make a valid women’s championship – usually eight are required
CIVL over-ruled this requirement and medals and titles were awarded
Marcella claimed first place in three out of five tasks
but Daria’s victory in the final task secured her the second spot among the women
Brazil dominated from the start and never relinquished the lead
Argentina and the USA vied for the remaining podium spots
Argentina’s advantage became insurmountable
In total 125 pilots from 17 countries competed at the 6th FAI Pan-American Paragliding Championships
The event also acted as the test event for the 19th FAI World Paragliding Championships which are planned to be held next year in Andradas
so there were participants from all over the world
Pico Do Gavião is a well-known site in Brazil and is popular with weekend pilots thanks to its proximity to São Paulo
Andradas has good infrastructure and the launches on top of the mountain accommodate a wide wind window
But it’s the largest peak in the immediate area so pilots need to be prepared to deploy those flatland flying skills to make distance.RESULTS

Tins of Heinz Beans first went on sale at Fortnum & Mason in 1886
But the history of tin dates back 3,500 years
when Turkish farmers discovered that if they blended the metal with copper
more resilient compound than anyone had ever known
Tin's status as a critical metal lasted for millennia – used in coins
ships and industry as well as food preservation
tin is a critical component of all things electronic
including data centres – the backbone of the internet
Soaring interest in artificial intelligence has fuelled demand for these facilities and recent forecasts suggest numbers could soar by 50 per cent or more over the next three years
Some of the more extravagant predictions were thrown into doubt last week
following news that the Chinese had developed DeepSeek
a cheap and cheerful version of America's ChatGPT
US tech stocks floundered and questions were raised about the future of AI and any industry related to it
Critical: Tin plays a vital role in many electronic products including data centres and servers
But price competition is a natural by-product of any market
lower costs may well provoke increased use of AI and even sceptics acknowledge that data centres will be needed in abundance
as supply is constrained across the world and investment has been limited for decades
which remains largely in force today and new mines elsewhere are thin on the ground
Africa-based Andrada Mining is an exception. The only listed tin producer on the London stock market, Andrada floated in 2017 and now has a fully functioning mine in Namibia, a country known for its political stability and mining expertise.
Andrada delivered 885 tons of tin in the year to February 2024, production of around 1,000 tons is expected this year, and chief executive Anthony Viljoen intends to ramp up output to 1,600 tons in 2026.
Viljoen has mining in his blood. His father Richard and uncle Morris were renowned geologists with a host of mining discoveries to their name. The twins helped set up Andrada and secure mining licences to a vast 75 square-mile plot, the size of Manchester and Brighton combined.
Once owned by the South African state, the area had been dormant for around 30 years but the Viljoens recognised its potential and brought it back to life.
Today, the site, known as Uis, is home to one of the largest hard rock open pit mines in the world, with sufficient tin resources to last into the 22nd century. Tin is not just a must-have for data centres.
The metal plays a vital role in many day-to-day products, from mobile phones and TVs to washing machines and fridge-freezers.
Also deployed in solar panels and electric vehicles, tin is a flag-bearer for the green revolution and widely used in traditional industries too.
Geopolitical tensions have accentuated concerns about future supplies. China is the largest producer of tin in the world but America and Europe are keen to source the metal from elsewhere and Andrada should benefit.
Uis does not just contain thousands of tons of tin but two other valuable metals as well: tantalum and lithium.
All smartphones contain around 0.1g of tantalum and with prices topping $100,000 (£80,000) per ton, even small quantities can make a big difference to Andrada's bottom line.
Lithium was almost a by-product of the mine but Viljoen is keen to start commercial sales and hopes to take production up to at least 50,000 tons annually within the next two to three years.
Andrada has made healthy progress since floating on Aim in 2017 but the stock has had a rough ride, slumping from 7.4p to 2.25p in the past 18 months alone after some production challenges.
suggesting that Andrada shares are fundamentally undervalued at current levels and should rebound this year and beyond
Tin prices soared to almost $50,000 (£40,000) a ton in 2022 but tumbled to below $20,000 (£16,000) as economic conditions shifted
There has been some recovery since those lows
with prices hovering just below $30,000 (£24,000) a ton but many forecasters believe tin is ready to soar again
Lithium Ridge has secured funding from Chilean lithium giant
which has agreed to finance the site's development
with tens of millions of dollars in exchange for a stake in the mine
Midas verdict: Viljoen has been investing heavily in Andrada's acreage and his work should bear fruit this year and beyond

Andrada Mining Ltd. has secured a US$2.5 million loan from its largest shareholder, The Orange Trust, to fund the construction of a new tin processing plant at its Uis mine in Namibia.
The new plant will operate independently from the existing facility, allowing Andrada to expand production without disrupting current operations.
The additional plant will process up to 100 tonnes of tin ore per hour, significantly increasing output.
Andrada expects this expansion to enhance cash flow by extracting value from existing stockpiles and new high-grade ore sources.
Discussions are ongoing with regional tin miners in Namibia’s Erongo region to secure additional ore supply.
CEO Anthony Viljoen said the investment reflects confidence in Namibia’s tin resources and growing global demand.
Andrada’s long-term strategy involves scaling up operations while expanding tantalum and lithium production at its primary plant.
“We anticipate a surge in tin demand over the year which, when combined with Andrada’s entrenched position in the global tin supply chain, creates a unique competitive advantage for the company,” said Viljoen.
“The additional plant provides a modular pathway to scale up operations within our existing mining footprint as we evaluate new pits and validate historical resources.
“Importantly, the new plant will operate independently, ensuring there is no disruption to current mining activities or to the ongoing expansion aimed at boosting tantalum and lithium revenues at our primary plant.”
The six-month loan has no interest payments but includes a US$50,000 monthly facility fee, totalling US$300,000 over the term.
The new processing plant itself will serve as security for the loan.
Andrada will repay the full US$2.5 million principal at the end of the term, alongside a US$100,000 cumulative facility fee in the third month.
The company sees this funding as the fastest and most flexible way to accelerate its tin expansion strategy, ensuring it can increase production quickly while maintaining financial stability.

sabbaticals offer numerous benefits for that extend far beyond the individual taking the time off
Senior Associate and Labor Law Expert at Noerr
we will focus on the transformative power of sabbaticals
as well as the legal aspects employers need to be aware of when deciding to implement a sabbatical programme
The concept of sabbaticals is not regulated by Romanian law. Therefore, it is up to the employers to decide whether and how they grant sabbaticals to their employees. In practice, we have identified three major types of sabbaticals:
BENEFITS OF SABBATICALS FOR EMPLOYERS
While the benefits for employees are clear
savvy employers should recognise that sabbaticals also have significant benefits for the organisation as a whole
translating into a more resilient and competitive workforce
Here are some benefits for the employers implementing sabbatical programmes:
they can also present challenges for both employees and employers
Understanding and addressing these challenges is essential to ensure the success and effectiveness of sabbatical programmes
Here are some common challenges to consider:
While the benefits of sabbaticals are clear
implementing a successful sabbatical programme requires careful planning and consideration of various legal factors
Here are some key considerations for organisations looking to implement a sabbatical programme:
The policy must be communicated to and acknowledged by all the employees
Employers should also regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the sabbatical programme and solicit feedback from employees to identify areas for improvement
the addendum to the employment agreement should reflect the reduction in working hours and the corresponding reduction in salary for the partial sabbatical period
an addendum to the employment agreement should be concluded specifying how the employee will be paid during the leave
the employer and the employee may agree that the entire sabbatical will be paid for in one instalment at the beginning of the sabbatical or in several instalments throughout the sabbatical
certain risks from a fiscal perspective should also be assessed by the employer
By offering employees the opportunity to recharge
it’s crucial for employers to be aware of the practical challenges and the legal aspects associated with implementing sabbatical programmes
clear policies and thorough legal considerations are essential to ensure the programme’s success and compliance

Andrada Mining Ltd (AIM:ATM, OTC:AFTTF) has updated the resource estimates for its Uis mine
The new estimate covered the mine’s V1V2 pegmatite
updating for the final batch of drill results from 2022 and depletion from the surface (up to August 2024)
Andrada said the average lithium oxide ((Li₂O) grade has increased to 0.79% from 0.73%
and contained lithium oxide increased to 610,000 from 587,000
Its measured resource tonnage meanwhile grew 30% to 27.33 million tonnes (mt)
and the indicated resource tonnage increased 2% to 17.50 million tonnes
The total resource tonnage declined to 77.51 million tonnes
Chief executive Anthony Viljoen described it as “another positive step” as Andrada moves closer to becoming “a premiere African producer of tin
“Our exploration team has once again demonstrated that the V1V2 pegmatite has significant lithium potential, shown by increases in both the average lithium grade and contained metal tonnage,” he said in a statement.
this updated resource also allows us to better quantify the potential lithium concentrate credits we can generate alongside our tin production
the updated MRE further enhances the project economics of the Uis mine operations and will enable the determination of a lithium mineral reserve.”

Andrada Mining Ltd (AIM:ATM, OTC:AFTTF) is a buying opportunity after today’s trading update
Results were a mixed bag, said the broker, with tin production of 232t below the broker’s expectation of 285t as ore processed and grades undershot
Management added that ore processed during the period was impacted by increased maintenance on the crushing section of the plant
while feed grade was lower due to the processing of blended ore
Berenberg added it was a challenging quarter for Andrada
but the effort to improve plant efficiency should result in a better performance in the current three months
adding that management remains focused on reducing its operational costs while strengthening the economic fundamentals of its tin operations
but this is reliant on operational delivery
“We are constructive on the Andrada story and expect a buying opportunity if the shares experience softness today
The stock is trading on 0.23 times NAV and we maintain our buy rating."

The Lithium Ridge licence is claimed to host several pegmatites with mineralisation including lithium (spodumene dominant)
Recent exploration has revealed continuous mineralisation along a 6km strike
with high-grade lithium intercepts up to 2.13% Li₂O
Andrada CEO Anthony Viljoen said: “This partnership solidifies our belief in the Lithium Ridge asset as a potential world-class resource
and further establishes Andrada as a multiasset
We believe this partnership also significantly enhances the value of our entire asset portfolio
partnering with SQM provides the ideal partner to unlock the full potential of Lithium Ridge
while allowing continuation of the development of Uis through our existing financing relationships
“The SQM partnership aligns perfectly with our strategic objectives
enabling us to develop our neighbouring lithium asset
“The introduction of a substantial player in the global lithium market will also place Namibia at the forefront of the African lithium development trajectory and unlock value for the Namibian mining industry.”
In June 2024, Talga Group and SQM joined forces to advance the Aero Lithium Project in northern Sweden

Andrada Mining has partnered leading lithium producer, Sociedad Química y Minera (SQM), to develop the Lithium Ridge project in Namibia. SQM
a Chilean chemical company and supplier of plant nutrients
The Andrada deal is SQM’s first venture into Africa
and the partnership is expected to unlock the potential of Lithium Ridge as SQM will fund exploration and a feasibility study
SQM agreed to pay Andrada a N$9.2 million participation fee on signing and a further N$27.6 million upon satisfaction of set conditions
Lithium Ridge is located 35 kilometres from Andrada’s Uis Mine and covers approximately 3 300 hectares
the agreement is subject to conditions precedent
including getting approval from the Namibian Competition Commission
formerly the world’s largest open-cast hard rock tin mine
and has three mining licences: ML134 (Uis)
The main minerals for these licences are tin
expressed excitement about the partnership
stating that the agreement is of strategic importance for both partners
“This partnership solidifies our belief in the Lithium Ridge asset as a potential world-class resource and further establishes Andrada as a multi-asset
We believe this partnership also significantly enhances the value of our entire asset portfolio,” Viljoen said
He said the collaboration with SQM will provide the expertise and resources needed to fully unlock the potential of Lithium Ridge
while allowing the continuation of the development of Uis through existing financing relationships
The statement released by Andrada also indicated that the terms of the deal allow SQM to earn up to a 50% interest in Lithium Ridge through fully funding exploration and the definitive feasibility study (DFS)
SQM has committed to paying Andrada a total of N$36.8 million in initial payments
with an additional option to invest N$368.4 million over three-and-a-half years
highlighted Namibia’s potential in terms of its abundant mineral resources
adding that they are excited to partner Andrada Mining
“We are excited to announce the completion of this agreement
which confirms our commitment to finding the best lithium assets in the world that efficiently diversify our portfolio
Namibia is among the top mining jurisdictions in the region
and we are pleased to begin exploration with a proven partner like Andrada Mining,” he said
A report released last year by stock brokerage
indicated that Namibia’s lithium revenues could exceed all other commodities combined
and could therefore improve the domestic trade and current account balances as well as gross domestic product growth rates
the local lithium sector’s revenue to government would be the largest
compared to all other commodity mining operations in Namibia”
SS cautioned about a long-term view on lithium
given a threat of new entrants to the battery and Electric Vehicle (EV) market
“It can well be that lithium is not the preferred mineral for battery
equipment and electronic consumer goods production in the long run,” Simonis Storm observed
The report further noted that restarting lithium production in Namibia after 1998 can be a good development for the local mining industry and the country’s economy in general
pointed out that given the capital-intensive nature of mining
it was not expected for lithium to contribute to major boosts in socio-economic indicators such as employment
but does view the renewed interest in Namibian lithium mining as a positive for export earnings and government revenue
“It is important to note that Namibia’s estimated lithium reserves have grade concentrates far below the global standard of 6%
Namibia’s lithium exports will fetch a lower global price per tonne and so the estimates above could be overstated
unless better grade concentrates can be discovered,” the SS report continued

FILIPINOS have certain associations when it comes to Filipiniana clothing: that it is stiff
Happy Andrada subverted all these with a thoroughly wearable Filipiniana collection that was Pinoy without all the kitsch
The show started quite early (when she said 6 p.m
Andrada’s show was one segment at the Pinoy Playlist Music Festival 2024
Andrada’s clothing presentation was accompanied onstage by Dyandi Percussion Djembe Ph and Anima Tierra
actress Glaiza de Castro flounced onto the stage in a puffy Filipiniana look
The show also showed amazingly youthful looking menswear pieces such as a bomber barong with pinilian (an indigenous fabric resembling a cotton brocade) stretch pants
Other menswear looks we saw included a hybrid barong-guayabera (a Latin American shirt)
worn with a stylish salakot (gourd or woven hat)
binakol pants (a fabric whose pattern has an op-art effect) with an embroidered piña (pineapple fabric) jacket embroidered with Filipino symbols like palms and Jose Rizal’s silhouette
A baro (a woman’s blouse) was shown on the runway
Another look was a cream jacket with extra-wide lapels worn over a barong (a traditional embroidered shirt
usually formal) topped with a luxurious straw hat
A baro’t saya (a traditional blouse-skirt combo) was made with several layers of cloth
A find we envy was a chore jacket-barong hybrid
Beauty queen Nicole Cordoves closed the show with a pageant-ready blue gown dyed to look like waves
Think a preppy girlish cleanliness with just a hint of editorial excess
“It was so much fun just collecting the fabrics.”
and despite the girlishness of her clothes
The finale dress is named “West Philippine Sea,” alluding to the Philippine territory that China is claiming as its own
The dress was featured in the Fashion Art Biennale in Seoul last September
“I was the only representative of the Philippines,” she said

"I think it’s harder to defend the title kasi everyone is watching your back
So every team we will face either in the first round or the second round
they will go as hard as they can kasi they know we’re the champions," Andrada told GMA News Online.
"It will be harder for us to defend the title pero we’re not gonna back down from everyone and we’ll do our best to win every game."

Andrada's optimism about the upcoming season comes from the much-awaited debut of their prized recruits like Bryan Sajonia
they will form a deadly roster with reigning Finals MVP James Payosing and high-flying sophomore Jomel Puno.
"They’ve been blending really well
The way I see it from the past couple of games that we’ve played in our tuneup games
they’ve been accepting their roles," Andrada added
"I think all of them are great additions to us and a big help for us to defend the title."

The United Kingdom’s Andrada Mining has secured about N$48 million to build an additional tin processing plant at Uis
boosting production capacity and supporting future growth in the Erongo region
Andrada has obtained the loan from LC Abelheim Limited (LCA) as trustee of The Orange Trust
Andrada is a tin producer with a portfolio of critical raw materials
Andrada spokesperson Elizabeth Manasse says the N$48 million would help ensure an additional processing capacity of 100 tonnes per hour at Uis
Andrada chief executive Anthony Viljoen says discussions continue for higher-grade tin ore supply from miners in the Erongo region
“This strategic investment reflects our confidence in the abundant tin resources of Namibia’s Erongo region
and particularly in the Uis mining licence
“We anticipate a surge in tin demand over the year
when combined with Andrada’s entrenched position in the global tin supply chain
creates a unique competitive advantage for the company
“The additional plant provides a modular pathway to scale up operations within our existing mining footprint as we evaluate new pits and validate historical resources
ensuring there is no disruption to current mining activities or to the ongoing expansion aimed at boosting tantalum and lithium revenues at our primary plant,” he says
This expansion also enables Andrada to explore and initiate production from other high-grade ore bodies across the Erongo region
“Our integrated approach of expanding tin output while advancing the polymetallic potential of our ore body should significantly enhance cash flow and improve profit margins
“The strong support from our existing shareholder
underscores the broad confidence in our growth strategy and reinforces our commitment to sustainable
scalable production and expansion,” he adds

The exclusive showcase aims to celebrate the fusion of tradition and contemporary style
Held at Tesoros’ flagship store in Makati
the event is deemed by its collaborators not just as a display of fashion but a statement on Filipino artistry
sustainability and modern cultural expression
the country’s pioneer exponent of homegrown fashion and handicrafts
is celebrating its 80th year in 2025 with one eye looking back at its rich past and another trained on its glowing future
And this is emblematic with its choice of Happy Andrada as its featured guest designer
Having earned a reputation in the industry for designing native finery that’s brimming with youthful fun while still cognizant and respectful of traditions
Andrada recently presented a 15-look collection of modern Filipiniana pieces for his and hers at Tesoros’ flagship store in Makati
Andrada used a range of native handwoven textiles such as piña cocoon
which she mixed and matched with Tesoros’ existing inventory of handwoven tablecloths and even placemats to produce avant-garde and sometimes whimsical dresses
barong-and-pants ensembles and various resort and everyday wear
Several tops were also embellished with hand-stitched calado embroidery
“I guess they chose me based on my past creations,” said Andrada soon after the show
“They probably felt my work appeals to a younger and broader market
They’re probably a tad different from everyone’s idea of Filipiniana.”
The designer nevertheless “stayed true to my style” by making sure her pieces
could be mixed and matched and dressed down with existing pieces in one’s wardrobe as well as used for everyday wear
Providing pops of color to the predominantly ecru shade that’s a signature of undyed natural piña fiber were handwoven tablecloths and placemats from all over the country
Andrada combined them with piña either as skirts
the resourceful designer doubled as her own stylist
as she sourced for various native woven hats
some of which she embellished with faux bulbs of garlic
Her collection’s silhouettes were decidedly a bit loose in keeping with the trend
but fall under the category of ready-to-wear
(Beng) Tesoro (Tesoros CEO) saw my outfit earlier
she appreciated what I did with the tablecloth.”
Since it takes a while to order handwoven fabrics from the provinces
Andrada basically made do with what was available at Tesoros
it was mostly woven plaids in pastel shades
which she combined with piña cocoon and piña suksok tops
vests and double-breasted and varsity jackets
a unisex varsity jacket made of piña and combined with handwoven material comes in black
Both jacket’s front panels were embroidered with iconic symbols like national hero Jose Rizal
horse-drawn caritelas and the Rizal monument
I got inspired with the weavers and with what they have
The results surprised me and a good number of people in a pleasant way,” says Andrada
Isabel “Beng” Tesoro said that the partnership reflects the brand’s unwavering mission
Tesoros has been dedicated to preserving and promoting Filipino craftsmanship,” she continued
“Our artisans pour generations of skill into their work
we ensure that these traditions evolve while staying rooted in their authentic origins.”
the collaboration brings attention to the evolving landscape of Filipino design—where heritage is actively preserved for today’s market
“We see this as part of a movement where young designers take inspiration from the past and bring it into the future,” Tesoro added
who has been in the fashion business since the early 2000s
“It’s a celebration of who we are as Filipinos
we make sure that Filipino artistry continues to thrive

Andrada Mining has transformed itself into a multi-mineral producer during the 2024 financial year
achieving a remarkable double-digit increase in tin concentrate production and successfully produced its first commercial batch of tantalum
solidifying our position as a key player in the critical metals space
Andrada has implemented a water recycling programme that reduced its environmental impact
“We also maintained a 99% Namibian workforce
demonstrating our commitment to the local community
Andrada’s vision is deeply intertwined with our identity as a proudly Namibian company with significant future growth and value potential,” said Parsons
The company managed to unlock additional value through exploration milestones at Lithium Ridge and Spodumene Hill
This development approach has enabled the production of tantalum and lithium concentrates
establishing additional revenue streams that will significantly mitigate single product price and demand volatility risks
“Multi-mineral production at Uis Mine will also drive down overall costs to the benefit of the bottom line
The ability to increase revenue and cash flow while managing costs remains imperative to improving profitability.”
The period saw increased tin production and commencement of tantalum production
which saw 50% annual volume increases in both tin concentrate and tin metal production
“This was mainly due to the plant expansion implemented towards the end of the prior financial year
The expanded plant is now in stable production
we successfully produced our first consignment of tantalum at the end of the 2024 financial year
This proved our ability to meet the AfriMet supply agreement and marked a key milestone in Andrada’s goal of being a multi-mineral producer.”
the company forged new global and local funding partnerships with the Development Bank of Namibia
and Orion Resource Partners while nurturing existing relationships
Parsons said the company is confident that the ring-fenced US$12.5 million Orion tin royalty
combined with the continuous improvement programme launched during the year at Uis Mine
will enable the company to realise this objective
Andrada spent just over N$505 million (US$27 million) through procurement from Namibian suppliers in the 2024 financial year
Anthony Villjoen added that bringing a lithium concentrate to market will be the first step to validating the lithium potential of the Erongo Region and unlocking the significant potential of the company’s large mineral resource
He said annual ore processing now stands at approximately one million tonnes
and tin concentrate production at approximately 1 500 tonnes
“This takes us a step closer to our goal of producing 2 600 tonnes of tin concentrate (1 600 tonnes of contained tin)
in line with the Orion royalty agreement.”

Big man Yukien Andrada had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds in leading the Red Lions’ emphatic win just four days after being ambushed by Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals in a 68-55 upset
Bryan Sajonia also made up for his shooting struggles the previous game by finishing with 14 points
while James Payosing and Jomel Puno each had 13 for the Mendiola-based school which hiked back its record to 3-2 and tied University of Perpetual Help at third place
“I told them na as defending champions
So we have to stay humble and just focus on the next game,” said coach Yuri Escueta of San Beda’s 13-point loss to EAC
“alam ko masakit yung talo namin sa EAC
