limited to up to 20 seconds of video at 1080p it brings improved realism and motion compared to others. The platform enables users to create videos from text prompts offering a suite of features designed to enhance creativity and streamline the video production process Numerous key features include the ability to remix meaning users can modify elements within a video using natural language commands allowing for intuitive adjustments and creative experimentation The re-cut feature allows users to isolate impactful frames and extend them to build complete scenes providing greater control over pacing and emphasis.Users can also create loops ideal for dynamic visuals or background animations users can combine two videos into one cohesive clip enabling unique compositions and transitions The Storyboard feature gives users the opportunity to organize and edit sequences on a personal timeline facilitating structured storytelling and project planning Style presents are predefined aesthetic templates to achieve specific looks such as "Cardboard & Papercraft" or "Film Noir," enhancing the visual appeal of videos There are some limitations to the Sora rollout though Unless you want to spend $200 per month on ChatGPT Pro you'll only get 50 videos per month for $20 per month and they will be limited to 720p and 5 seconds duration You can't create video of people without a Pro plan and it isn't available in the EU or UK Sora is currently available to ChatGPT subscribers in the U.S. and many other countries. However, it is not yet accessible in the European Union, United Kingdom, or Switzerland due to regulatory considerations. OpenAI has implemented safeguards to prevent misuse including visible watermarks and metadata to indicate AI-generated content as well as restrictions on uploading certain types of content The release of Sora represents a significant advancement in AI-driven content creation providing users with powerful tools to transform their creative visions into dynamic video content Since Sora was first announced the entire AI video landscape has changed with the launch of three big Chinese models and major upgrades to the likes of Runway and Pika Labs We've also seen newcomers like Haiper and Luma Labs Dream Machine enter the space All of the platforms have their own unique features models have their own quirks and capabilities and they all come at different price points Some are almost indistinguishable in performance to what we're seeing from Sora Turbo Runway is one of the biggest players in this space It was the first to launch a commercial synthetic video model and has been adding new features and improvements ever since motion control and the recently launched Act-1 for 'puppetering AI people' providing the studio with access to its generative AI tools This collaboration aims to integrate AI into the creative process thereby streamlining production workflows and reducing costs In an increasingly crowded market Runway is still one of the best AI video platforms and on top of generative content it has good collaboration tools and other image-based AI features such as upscaling and text-to-image Runway has a free plan with 125 credits natural coherent motion and physics," providing users with more realistic and fluid video outputs Trained with ten times more computational power than its predecessor Ray2 significantly increases the success rate of producing usable making video storytelling more accessible.Last year Dream Machine seemingly came out of nowhere earlier this year offering impressive levels of realism It also has an initial 5-second video generation The latest version goes beyond simple video generation turning Dream Machine into a creative partner It is a chatbot-style interface where you can collaborate with the AI on creating images The quality is just as good as its always been with a significant improvement in visual realism thanks to the new Photon AI image generator It can use this to create the videos or you can still give it an image of your own Other features such as prompt enhancement and keyframes are still very much in place allowing you to use images at different points in the generation process Being able to extend clips is also particularly powerful in Dream Machine as this allows for character following and fresh scenes It continues from the final frame of your last video and you can change the motion description for each extension Dream Machine has a free plan with 30 generations per month Lite Plan is $9 per month for 3,200 credits 1080p video and high-resolution images but it is non-commercial Kling AI is a Chinese generative video product from video platform company Kuaishou its features include longer video generations better prompt following and multi-shot sequences offering image-to-video and text-to-video with automatic upscaling options and clips starting at 5 or 10 seconds I've used it to make multiple videos and in every case it captures human and animal motion in a way no other platform I've tried has achieved It also seems to be able to depict emotion with both camera movement and within the characters it generates The company recently added lip-syncing and clip extensions you can define how to extend the clip or leave it automatic There are also new community features to showcase the best output.Building upon the previous version Kling AI released version 1.6 in January 2025 Enhanced Realism: The new model delivers more lifelike visuals with smoother motion and more accurate representations of subjects and environments Extended Video Length: Users can now create videos up to 10 seconds long providing more flexibility for storytelling Improved Character Consistency: The update includes features that significantly enhance character consistency across frames ensuring coherent and stable representations throughout the video Advanced Camera Movements: The platform now supports more dynamic and realistic camera movements adding a cinematic quality to the generated videos Kling is free to use with 66 credits per day and between 5 and 10 credits per generation There isn't a subscription plan as such but it offers memberships starting at $10 per month for 660 monthly credits offering realistic motion and high-quality video rendering text and sound generation models as well as a fresh interface It has been continuously improved since it launched and in a short time has quickly become one of the most realistic models on the market It is particularly good at depicting human emotion The new interface includes a side menu with options to explore other users' clips as well as a simple way to generate videos One of my favorite features is image-to-video live which allows you to generate animations and anime. In January 2025 MiniMax released and open-sourced the MiniMax-01 series MiniMax-Text-01: A foundational large language model (LLM) capable of processing up to 4 million tokens in its context window equivalent to a small library's worth of books MiniMax-VL-01: A visual multimodal model designed to handle both text and visual inputs The base plan is $9 per month for 1,m000 credits no watermarks and bonus credits for daily login Haiper takes a slightly different approach from other AI video tools building out an underlying model and training dataset that is better at following the prompt rather than offering fine-tuned control over the motion Haiper released the Haiper AI Video Art Generator app on the App Store This application enables users to transform their videos into artistic creations using Haiper's AI technology providing a new avenue for creative expression These updates reflect Haiper's commitment to advancing its platform and providing users with enhanced tools for creating high-quality AI-generated videos Prompting is easy and it was the first to add a floating prompt box over the top of the underlying videos — something copied by OpenAI with Sora image-to-video and templates where you can meme-ify your ideas including a kissing and Great Gatsby offering Haiper You get 100 credits for free and for $10 per month you get 1,500 credits to use on the latest model as well as unlimited generations on the previous model allowing for the addition of surprising and fantastical components to enhance creativity Each video generation consumes a specific number of credits, depending on the model and features used. For example, using the Turbo model for image or text-to-video generation costs 5 credits per video. Pika You get 150 credits for free and for $8 per month (billed yearly) you get 700 monthly credits with the ability to roll-over video credits and access to Pika 1.0 Users also have the option to download videos without watermarks All of the models above are their own dedicated platforms with additional features and pricing structures. Mochi-1 is an open-source model that has been adapted and refined by the community since released by Genmo The model allows for fairly quick video generation and can run on a high-end gaming PC — the others all run on the cloud It can also be customized and adapted to work for specific brands and requirements.Genmo plans to release Mochi 1 HD before the end of the year which will support 720p video generation with enhanced fidelity and even smoother motion they are working on image-to-video capabilities and improving the controllability and steerability of the models to provide users with more precise control over their outputs For those interested in exploring Mochi 1's capabilities Genmo offers a hosted playground where users can generate videos from their own prompts Developers can also access the model's weights and source code through platforms like Hugging Face and GitHub These developments position Mochi 1 as a leading tool in AI-driven video generation, providing users with powerful resources to create high-quality, realistic videos efficiently.Mochi-1 is available for free at Genmo.ai or to download and run yourself you will then be prompted to enter your display name The act is part of the broader Farm Bill which is an omnibus legislation passed every five years and covers all aspects of food production The senators’ proposed Advancing Research on Agricultural Climate Impacts (ARACI) Act presents a roadmap for research and data infrastructure investments needed to maximize agricultural climate benefits The act itself follows a blueprint created by climate NGO Carbon180’s recommendations about the ways to invest in agricultural carbon sequestration using a science-based approach for soil carbon measurement deputy director of policy at Carbon180 and agriculture policy lead commented on the introduction of the act by saying: “Senator Smith and Senator Young’s vision for the ARACI act can help radically transform agriculture’s relationship to climate change by making critical investments in soil carbon sequestration This legislation recognizes that American farmers and ranchers are managing their land and feeding the country while at the frontlines of climate change and offers regionally-relevant data insights and on-the-ground support to retool long-standing practices this legislation makes measuring soil carbon more transparent We believe this legislation can help usher in the next generation of soil carbon measurement tools so farmers and ranchers can showcase their contributions to climate mitigation.” This is not the first effort to bridge the gap between voluntary carbon markets (VCMs) and farmers. The Growing Climate Solutions Act was passed last year and provides support for farmers and ranchers who want to take part in VCMs One of the issues for broadscale participation has been the aforementioned lack of reliable measurement and verification of soil carbon sequestration By creating an extensive soil science database that is readily available to US farmers bottlenecks around transparency and the utility of carbon credits could be removed According to Zoebisch the ARACI Act (and the Farm Bill as a whole) can provide the framework for strategic investments in innovative methodologies and tools to more accurately and cost-effectively quantify soil carbon outcomes through standardized sampling Relevant: Carbon180 Issues Policy Recommendations On Ocean Carbon Removal But there are other barriers that need addressing. “The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is really understaffed which makes it difficult for farmers and ranchers to receive the necessary support to determine best practices for sequestering carbon based on their unique operation and soil types some of the practices that have the highest carbon sequestration potential require specialized knowledge that most NRCS staff currently lack,” she points out In terms of solutions for these challenges Zoebisch thinks that efforts should be focused on the translation of regionally-relevant research to NRCS field staff and increasing the availability of specialized technical assistance so farmers and ranchers can receive comprehensive support when they embark on their journey to activate their operations as carbon sinks Read more: 2023 Farm Bill Represents A Tremendous Opportunity For Carbon Removal – Carbon Business Council CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE TDN FOR FREE! after all it was at the Rowley Mile during Guineas Weekend that their involvement in horseracing began was blissfully unaware as his daughter Pinar cheered home Cockney Rebel (Ire) (Val Royal) to win the colts' Classic in 2007 sparking an interest that would become an expensive hobby for years to come “When I was at Reading University my best friend owned an arable farm just outside Newmarket and I went over to visit,” says Pinar Araci “She invited me for the weekend and told me there was great racing I had no idea that it was Guineas weekend or even what the Guineas were but she took me racing and I absolutely loved it I visited Tattersalls and stud farms nearby and by the time I left “Later that year we decided to get involved because by then I had managed to convince Dad that it was a good idea we came to Tattersalls and bought our first mares just four years after Pinar's first encounter they were back at the Rowley Mile but this time as owners and with a runner in the Newmarket Classic ran a highly creditable third that day to a horse you may have heard of: Frankel (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) Native Khan (Fr) is now one of five stallions that Araci stands in Turkey where the family's breeding operation has quadrupled in size since 2008 With 44 mares to breed from and a second farm under construction they are leading owner-breeders in the region Araci's first horses in the UK was Native Khan,” says Speers “He was really the horse that helped cement his interest in British racing Native Khan came from the Craven Breeze-up Sale and he won the Solario was third to Frankel in the Guineas and fifth in the Derby The day before Native Khan won the Craven S the Aracis returned to the Craven Breeze-up to purchase an Oasis Dream (GB) filly they would later name Chigun (GB) she won three times at two and was the last group winner he would train “We didn't get to work with Sir Henry for as long as we'd have liked,” says Pinar He understood the horses so well and I had so much to learn from him He picked Chigun and he always said we have to breed from her and we did We have named her 3-year-old Dansili (GB) filly “We actually reserved the name and were waiting for the right filly out of Chigun to come along to use it,” adds Speers “[Warren Rose] is still pretty much untried but everyone that has ridden her has really liked her and it will be a poignant moment if she could be a success because Mr Araci and Pinar were very fond of Sir Henry.” Chigun continues to keep very good company as a member of the select broodmare band at Old Mill Stud which Speers has high hopes for “We have 13 mares on the farm at the moment,” he says “I would say that we could take up to somewhere between 15 and 20 but any more than that and we'd be looking to expand I really believe in all of the mares we have walking the farm at the moment though The three mares we bought at the sales and the other younger mares that we have would all have a right on pedigree looks and racing performance to turn into blue hens; it wouldn't be a big surprise.” Among the haul from Tattersalls last December was Group 3-placed Galileo (Ire) mare sold in foal to American Triple Crown winner Justify for 700,000gns “Butterscotch has had a wonderful Justify foal who we're absolutely delighted with and she visits Kingman (GB) in 2020,” says Speers “She's a mare that I have a lot of faith in she was a stakes filly over seven furlongs and she is sister to Coach House (Ire) who was a very fast horse She is a daughter of Lesson In Humility (Ire) (Mudadil) placed at Royal Ascot in the Golden Jubilee She's got a fast family so the Oasis Dream " class="horse-link" target="_blank">Kingman line should really suit her.” a full-sister to Oaks winner Qualify (Ire) bought in foal to No Nay Never for 600,000gns and due to visit Lope De Vega (Ire) this year Completing the well-bred triumvirate is Guerriere (Ire) the listed-placed Invincible Spirit mare currently in foal to Lope De Vega (Ire) who had a price tag of 825,000gns “Guierriere was the most expensive of the three mares she visits Blue Point (Ire),” says Speers “She is by Invincible Spirit who's obviously a speed influence and she has a pedigree that would suit Shamardal Shamardal is not available to outside breeders this year and Mr Araci was hugely taken by his son Blue Point's performances at Royal Ascot and really liked him as an individual Where most of the time we'll be looking to use proven sires on our young mares Blue Point has all of the attributes to be a very exciting stallion and we wanted to cover one our best mares with him.” “As well as the mares that we bought we have Bella Nostalgia (Ire) who's a stakes-placed Raven's Pass filly We have She's Mine (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) we have Vasilia (GB) (Dansili {GB}) who is the dam of three stakes horses including Dream of Dreams (Ire) (Dream Ahead) there's Chigun who's a Group 3-winning daughter of Oasis Dream (GB) All of them have the potential to be great mares We hope to race their daughters and their daughters' daughters Building families might be the long-term aim at Old Mill Stud but in the meantime “Given all of the investment into development there is a high chance that we'll be consigning horses in between times,” confirms Speers “We will focus on having good quality horses racing and developing our young families but we'll also be selling quality stock and raising the awareness of Old Mill we need to make it pay and build a business for the long term.” The size of Old Mill Stud means that it will only ever be a boutique operation but Pinar hopes that in addition to her father having success on the racecourse they will develop 'must-see' consignments at the sales I would love to get to the point where everyone comes to look at our lots first,” says Pinar “I would like to be firmly on the map but we don't want to go crazy with numbers and we'll always be boutique I want our bloodlines to go on forever so that when you look at a page and you see that family The 'Araci families' are already well established in their homeland of Turkey where in a relatively short amount of time they have got to the stage of breeding their homebred mares to their homebred stallions Bridging the gap between the two nations is another aim for the future “I would like to increase the relationship between Turkey and England,” says Pinar “We want to be able to breed horses in Turkey that are good enough to perform in England but there are a lot of regulations that we need to overcome first.” “At the moment it's purely just an import market into Turkey,” reiterates Speers Araci would take huge pleasure in seeing Turkish-bred and -owned horses being successful in the UK and globally By raising the quality of horse in Turkey and hopefully by having the stud here in the UK we'll help him to achieve that.” As they settle into their base at Old Mill Stud it's fair to say that we're likely to see a few more homebreds in the Aracis' silks Be sure to keep an eye out for the odd Turkish suffix too Not a subscriber? We have been to Hades and lived to tell the tale.” “No one connected to Luton Town Football Club fears relegation Kevin Rouse, chairman of Loyal Luton Supporters Club, is hardly exaggerating. Luton may be the modern messiahs on how to run a sustainable football club endless administrations and the infamous ‘Manager Idol’ characterised the club’s turbulent years throughout the 1990s and 2000s “When we so nearly didn’t have a club to support then just being here at times is a miracle in itself.” Rouse explains It is hard to imagine a more remarkable comeback story. Non-league to Premier League in just ten years few are fully aware the true depths of despair that many Hatters fans have been through in the last 30 years it has been an unmatched emotional journey he has become the cities one-man travelling band for a club most Americans never knew existed until the last year “I made the point of telling everybody everything about Luton I even made the team I play football with play in Orange.” When Luton won the playoff final last year Araci was at Wembley but had left a sea of orange behind him in Chicago Friends going wild in bemused North American bars as Luton overcame Coventry 6-5 on penalties The day started with a trip to Luton’s own: The Bricklayers Arms Next it was a train to London and a limo to Wembley “I got into the stadium and suddenly realized what we were there for Araci recalls the moment Coventry’s Fankaty Dabo stepped up to take the decisive penalty knowing he had to score to keep his side in it The sun finally disappeared behind the stadium as he did: “The temperature dropped and it was like a cold shiver I remember looking up and going ‘Dad he’s gonna miss it isn’t he?’ He went wide of the goal and high and I just went absolutely f***ing crazy.” It was everything that had been bad for the past 30 odd years just expelled.” Most football fans can talk of experience with questionable owners the memory of one probably sticking in their mind A man who splits opinion amongst Hatters fans to this day he presided over an incredibly successful period during the 1980s winning the League Cup and spending a decade in the First Division he left Luton one of the most hated sides in the country Banning away fans for four seasons in response to the notorious 1985 FA Cup clash with Millwall A game that quickly turned into a violent riot wrecking Kenilworth Road and the neighbourhoods surrounding it Araci hated it but did manage to find one upside “I saw an opportunity to make some money with my friends We got loads of additional members and would sell them on the day of the game to visiting fans all highly illegal and all that but a handy way for a teenager to make a little bit of extra money.” It was Evans £3.25 million sale of their stadium Kenilworth Road to the local council that would be his real legacy Leaving the club in uncertain financial territory having to lease their own ground to this day We should never have been relegated in the 1991/92 season but the owners just did not invest in the team.” Despite being one of the founding members of the Premier League Luton were relegated before they could partake in it Araci thought it would only be a short-term setback:   I thought we’d be back within a year or two I never thought it would be 31 years before we played a game in the topflight.” What followed instead was years of underinvestment His self-centred proposals like a new 20,000-seater stadium titled the “Kohlerdome” did little to help Neither did the club dropping down to the third division under his ownership By 1999, things had gotten toxic. Kohler reported being abused in the street, attacked in his car and having his home graffiti’d by fans. The final straw: an alleged petrol bomb and matches being posted through his letterbox. He reacted furiously: "What happened is an act that any reasonable person must deplore The police have viewed this petrol bomb as a warning I am not prepared to use my family as a shield or place them in any circumstances that could endanger them.” They claim he left under the orders of a receiver from fellow director Cliff Bassett he left the club in administration and in their first fight for survival In the backroom of the Brickies (The Bricklayers Arms) twenty or so fans met up to discuss buying the club for £1: It was the first time that all the supporter groups had come together and basically said enough was enough.” “We needed to start doing something about this We need to start securing the future of the club because it means so much to the town.” They wouldn’t win the bid but sowed the seeds of supporter unity that would be crucial when dealing with the calamity that was to come: John Gurney so-called businessman Gurney and a mysterious consortium of ‘international investors’ acquired the club for £4 from previous owner Mike Watson-Challice Fan favorites manager Joe Kinnear and his assistant Mick Harford were quickly dismissed and a peculiar manifesto was published on the club website The famous ground on stilts (on top of the M1 motorway) with a 70,000 capacity and an F1 track running around it He said that NFL and NBA games could be played there and would make the club £350 million a year from it.” “He wanted to change our name to London Luton FC and use a Pop Idol style poll to vote in a new manager.” when his flatmate handed him the manifesto “There was this stack of papers on the table You start going through it and you’re like ‘What the hell is he talking about It quickly became apparent something was wrong. Staff wages were not being paid, fans began to revolt and then there was the notorious 'Manager Idol' Hatters fans were told to vote for their desired next coach in a poll The just fired Joe Kinnear was on the list the winner was the only man who turned up on the day of the announcement: Newell A man who would ironically long outlast Gurney at Luton local sponsors were being convinced to boycott investment and instead pledge £300,000 to the newly founded supporters club Trust in Luton (TiL) through online message boards such as the Luton Outlaws brought all sorts of fans together Araci tells me of a key player in the operation “He had this unbelievable knack of digging into people He started digging around this Gurney and he found links with people who had done very questionable things with other football clubs.” This information was relayed to Gary Sweet who proved crucial in bringing Gurney down before it was too late Sweet and the TiL found that Gurney had somehow missed that the club’s creditor A debenture for the owing of several million pounds that could be called in at any time The Trust ingeniously acquired shares in Hatters Holdings and called that debenture in Luton was taken out of Gurneys hands and placed in administrative receivership on 14th July 2003 If you want 40 minutes of barely believable The Office-like entertainment, watch Trouble at the Top on YouTube he caused so much mayhem but we got so much good out of it.” there were a few more questionable ownerships to pass Bill Tomlins would take the club out of administration in 2004 The FA’s investigation into the paying of agents through third-party companies triggering his departure Tomlins claimed this was only done because manager Newell hated agents The intention being to hide their involvement from him Next was the turn of Touring car driver David Pinkney Sensing financial disaster and impending FA punishment he decided to cut his losses and left the club in administration once again They would eventually sell 50,000 shares to the Trust But one that was followed with further disaster This time inflicted by the FA and Football League (FL) They were found guilty of past financial irregularities with little sympathy given to the new owner’s transparency they were relegated to League Two with the help of a ten-point deduction Stating Luton had failed to come to an agreement with those owed money Essentially consigning Luton to non-league football and the Conference league It is a decision no Luton fan has ever forgiven They did try to break the club and I think if it had been any other club But what we had been through in the past ten years had set ourselves up ready to go.” Reaching the final of the Football League Trophy 40,000 fans watched as their side became the only club to win the Trophy and be relegated from the Football League in the same season When FL chairman Lord Mawhinney stepped up to congratulate the players he was resoundingly booed by the Hatters supporters he knew at that moment in time he was hated by the Luton legions on the terraces of Wembley.” ‘Luton Town Betrayed by the FA 2008’ still hangs in Kenilworth Road to this day “It is justice that we are in the Premier League sticking two fingers up to the authorities that tried to kill us.” Perhaps most fitting is the way they have come up Since the Premier League was created in 1992 Luton have spent £31 million on transfers (£19 million of which came last summer) their nearest rivals in transfer spend at £209 million good dealings in the transfer market and building a backroom staff that brought into the ethos of the club Since the 2020 takeover with Sweet at the helm as CEO the club have created an infrastructure that prioritised youth development and a keen-eyed recruitment policy Players previously forgotten about at other clubs and providing them with a sense of belief at Luton “Giving them a bit of a polish.” Araci explains He’s up there with Ricky Hill for me in terms of the best player I’ve ever seen for Luton.” Araci cites Marvelous Nakamba screaming “Together” into the cameras after last season’s playoff victory as the epitome of this: The players know what the club means to the fans It is a unity built from shared experiences From three consecutive relegations that knocked them out of the football league to the eventual fairy-tale rise that followed it One player is the embodiment of this: Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu The midfielder who was there when John Still finally led them out of the Conference in 2014 Who was there for the consecutive promotions in 2018 and 2019 rising from League Two to the Championship Who was there when they beat Coventry and cemented their Premier League status last year The first footballer to climb from the non-league tiers of English football to the Premier League with the same club Mpanzu is the symbol of Luton’s remarkable rise this is the real Hollywood story.” Araci exclaims Thanks to Nottingham Forest’s four-point deduction a point above the relegation places with nine games to play Something few gave them a chance of at the start of the season Each pundit relegating them without second thought Fans laughing at the peculiarity of Kenilworth Road it’s size and strange entrances beside people’s back gardens “If you studied the history of the previous season alone you would have seen that we were not gonna come up and be the knock overs that they all thought we would.” Manager Rob Edwards tactical reinvention has been key to that Starting the season in a more direct long ball style of play that worked well in the Championship it wasn’t quite enough in the Premier League He then honed the team to mix that direct style with a focus on high-energy pressing and playing out from the back Giving them a versatility that is hard to predict he empowered the defence to find (Sambi) Lokonga and Barkley rather than just going for the route one We have more of a ball possession desire rather than just get rid of it.” Araci tells me This change in tac has opened up Luton’s scoring abilities The success of their quick countering out of defence proving key in their battle for survival the likes of Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris reaping the rewards of this It will be a fight to the wire but one Araci feels a sense of destiny for “I’m confident that our season will end with another Hollywood script I’ve always said from the beginning of the season we just need to be the fourth shi***** team in the league and if we’ve done that then that’s the Hollywood script for you.” Luton’s story is one remarkable enough for Hollywood Just a small town thirty miles north of London that have been to hades but are far from it now “The supporters have a connection now that Staff wages were not being paid, fans began to revolt and then there was the notorious 'Manager Idol' If you want 40 minutes of barely believable The Office-like entertainment, watch Trouble at the Top on YouTube Robert Lewandowski finding form at the right time for Barcelona and the rise of fan power: Luton's is a story of redemption the leading cause of irreversible blindness afflicts 4 million Americans (and 70 million people worldwide) Often the disease—characterized by elevated intraocular pressure (IOP)—arrives without warning but early detection can prevent vision loss Bioengineering Assistant Professor Emre Araci and his team of student researchers believe they have just the right tool to help people detect changes in their eye pressure—a daily use soft contact lens with a highly sensitive built-in sensor whose background is in microfluidics and optics where his team built an IOP detecting device for implantation into the eye during cataract surgery the nature of the procedure limited the potential to reach a wide population He decided to build a soft contact lens version “This was a bigger problem than we had tackled previously,” he said “Measuring pressure from a sensor inside the eye is relatively easy; measuring it from the outside is challenging they require a physician to take measurements and they don’t afford the comfort and convenience of soft contact lenses My idea was to help the patients get measurements at home with the use of a contact lens that could interface with a smartphone.” So he recruited two graduate students and one undergraduate to help with his research they began making microfluidic strain sensor microchips that would be embedded in the contact lens and the students have been involved in every step along the way from development of processes to design and prototyping,” he explained One stumbling block was finding a material that would combine the comfort and safety of standard soft contact lenses—flexibility air permeability—with the rigidity needed to maintain the integrity of the on-board sensor “Things really started to get exciting when we began combining different technologies microfluidics and metamaterials,” Araci said “Instead of getting thinner when they are pulled Auxetics have been used in athletic shoes and contacts but they hadn’t been applied to microfluidic technology in optics it was all I could talk about with my students we came up with a microfluidic metamaterial for our contact lens based intraocular pressure monitoring platform,” he said The team built mechanical eye models to test their pressure-detecting lens and gathered results using both a microscope and smartphone images They did the same with porcine eyes obtained from a butcher shop “We put the contact lens on the porcine eyes and pressurized them We were able to detect a 4-micrometer change in the radius of the eye—not centimeters the same equipment used in ophthalmologists’ offices comparing those measurements to data gathered from our contact lens and smartphone We verified that our sensor has a detection limit that matches the gold standard in ophthalmology.” “We’ll be collaborating with Stanford and UC San Francisco ophthalmology teams and glaucoma experts We’re also working on getting Institutional Review Board approval for testing on humans,” said Araci “This technology is very novel and the application is so interesting There is great potential to solve a long-standing problem in glaucoma detection and treatment People without the disease will be able to monitor their eye health and pressure changes that could lead to vision loss Those with glaucoma would be afforded safe and comfortable long-term treatment management Passively monitoring a patient’s ocular response to drug regimens or lifestyle changes will help both doctor and patient make informed treatment choices and will also assist in the validation Bioengineering Assistant Professor Emre Araci with his groundbreaking contact lens.  Photo: Heidi Williams To the extent that historical press releases reference BMW Manufacturing Co. amphibious assault rescue vehicles for the Turkish armed forces FNSS will develop a new Zirhli Amfibi Hcum Araci (ZAHA) amphibious assault vehicle for use on new TCG Anadolu amphibious assault ship According to Undersecretariat for Defence Industries of Turkeys Ministry of National Defence The new ZAHA amphibious assault vehicle will be used to land the surface assault elements of the landing force and their equipment in a single lift from assault shipping during amphibious operations to inland objectives and to conduct mechanized operations and related combat support in subsequent mechanized operations ashore In what will be a first for science, China has announced its intention to land a probe on the dark side of the Moon exploring lunar territory that has never been seen up close by human eyes it's never been explored by human astronauts nor landed upon by spacecraft The dark side is so-called because it always faces away from Earth due to gravitational forces with the 'dark' in the name historically imputing that we can't see or understand it rather than it actually being physically dark But that meaning will become even more anachronistic soon with China's mission set to bring us into direct contact with the Moon's most mysterious territory "The Chang'e-4's lander and rover will make a soft landing on the back side of the Moon, and will carry out in-place and patrolling surveys," Liu Jizhong, China's lunar exploration chief, told the press China's swiftly developing space program initially replicated feats already achieved by the US and others but this latest mission provides growing evidence that in recent years the nation has become serious about setting records of its own "The implementation of the Chang'e-4 mission has helped our country make the leap from following to leading in the field of lunar exploration," said Liu Chang'e-4 will follows China's successful Chang'e-3 mission, which soft-landed on the Moon in 2013, becoming the first spacecraft to do so in almost 40 years (and which has turned up things about the Moon we never knew, and the mission is still giving us new data) an upcoming Chang'e-5 craft now being developed will be the star of an even more ambitious mission – landing on the Moon and then returning to Earth According to Liu the Chang'e-4 probe is very similar to Chang'e-3 in structure but can handle a larger payload The spacecraft – and any rover it contains – will study geological conditions of the dark side of the Moon "There has been no surface exploration of the far side," he told AFP "I am sure the international lunar science community will be very excited about this mission Update: We received a lot of feedback in relation to the original headline this story featured which used the term "dark side of the Moon" that name historically means "dark" as in "unknown" since because that side of the Moon faces away from Earth for a long time humanity was unable to see it or study it It does not mean "dark" as in physically dark and receiving no light we have changed the headline to "far side of the Moon" did not enjoy a productive day on the track but appears to have made some progress with his legal affairs claiming that a line had been drawn under his recent conflict with Ibrahim Araci "Everything's cool again" and said he hoped to ride for Araci in the future Fallon was sensationally prevented by Araci from riding in the Derby 12 days ago when having signed a contract to ride Native Khan the jockey decided to partner Recital instead Araci was granted an injunction on the morning of the race that prevented Fallon from riding against his horse Sections of the contract read out in court indicated that Fallon would be liable for £30,000 of damages for each ride not taken and Araci's lawyers left open the possibility of pursuing the jockey for that amount asked on Wednesday if the matter had now been settled said Native Khan was now being aimed at the Irish Derby in which Johnny Murtagh is expected to ride as he did when the horse was fifth at Epsom Among the opposition at the Curragh next month may be Carlton House who impressed work-watchers on the Long Hill gallop at Newmarket on Wednesday who lost a shoe and met trouble in running when third in the Derby is also believed to have the Irish equivalent as his next target Walter Swinburn made it into the winner's enclosure for the first time at the Royal meeting thanks to Julienas's battling success in the Royal Hunt Cup this was still a long way short of his absurdly easy cruise to Derby glory on Shergar 30 years ago but he gave every indication that this delicious reward for hard graft was more satisfying "Sheikh Mohammed did point out when I first got my licence that top jockeys never make top trainers," he said "I hope we're bucking the trend." Only 19 when Shergar gave him the first of three Derby wins Swinburn kept his fresh-faced appearance throughout his career in the saddle "I probably know more about the thoroughbred now than I ever did when I was riding and there's more bad days than good days," he said you think you know everything but you're in the privileged position of jumping off one and getting onto the next one you've got to take them home and pray that they pull out sound the next day." A recent dispersal sale by his main owner means that Swinburn has 75 horses in his care more than most but fewer than he has space for at his Hertfordshire stables "There's some on box rest and one or two turned out and one or two a little bit lame I'll go into the yard tomorrow morning and I can tell by the way my head man walks towards me whether it's good news or bad news You learn a lot about people as well as horses.Everyone knows what the situation is with prize money in this country Julienas is entered in the John Smith's Cup at York on 9 July Swinburn agreed that would probably be the aim but added: "I'm trying to stay in the moment." The trainer-jockey combination of Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes followed up with a double on Wednesday when Strong Suit took the Jersey and Best Terms the Queen Mary Hughes is still available at evens with Totesport to be top jockey at the meeting with the same odds on offer about Ryan Moore A distribution channel is the network of individuals and organizations involved in getting a product or service from the producer to the customer Distribution channels are also known as marketing channels or marketing distribution channels There are three types of distribution channels: direct Intermediaries are used in indirect channels to distribute Intermediaries may more commonly be referred to as middlemen Examples of intermediaries include the following: Each type of intermediary represents a channel with its own distinct characteristics. VARs, for example, are often local companies that sell horizontal products, such as office productivity apps or vertical IT products such as healthcare services to businesses in their geographic region VARs provide value beyond the original order fulfillment They're distinct from the manufacturer and customer and help the product get to the customer with added value national companies that work on highly complex Consultants might not resell products but rather influence sales through product recommendations to customers A vendor develops a marketing strategy called a channel strategy, also known as a distribution channel strategy, to determine what types of intermediaries to target and how to optimize partner relationships to increase sales and improve distribution There are three main levels of distribution that describe which type of intermediary sells the company's product and how involved the intermediaries are This applies to the indirect distribution method Indirect product distribution strategies fall into three categories: intensive Distribution channel levels describe how close an intermediary is to the producer or vendor of a product another level is added between the producer and the customer If a clothing producer gives products to a retailer to sell to customers there's one level between the producer and customer If the producer first gives the clothing to a wholesaler to then give to a retailer and then the customer there are two levels between producer and consumer Adding another level might involve placing an agent between producer and wholesaler The alcohol industry is a good example of a distribution channel with multiple levels. There are laws that require wineries to first sell their products to a wholesaler before selling to a retailer. Direct-to-consumer models like e-commerce are examples of low-level customers can buy products directly from producers on Amazon As vendors grow the size and scope of their distribution network dedicated resources are often needed to ensure the success of the partner program Reporting to the heads of sales or marketing partner enablement managers are focused on the success of the partner program Partner enablement includes the creation of co-branded sales and marketing material and the training of partners' sales and marketing staff. The partner enablement manager facilitates communication and collaboration between the partners and assorted stakeholders and executives on the vendor side The partner enablement manager also creates a partner certification program along with the requirements to meet each tier The various channels of distribution play a critical role in a vendor's go-to-market strategy any distribution channel model -- whether focused entirely on one mode such as multichannel distribution -- can open or expand markets exceed sales goals and grow a vendor's bottom line distribution channels can also broaden the portfolio of products and services available to customers technology implementation services and post-sales support They might also incorporate a vendor's product into an integrated IT product The final customer is focused on whether a product or service meets its needs The customer is often unaware or unconcerned about the intricacies of distribution channels Having a working go-to-market strategy with trustworthy distribution partners is important in supply chain management. The threat actor will mail the victim, attaching an HTML file that, in turn, downloads a password-protected .ZIP archive. Being password-protected helps the payload avoid detection from antivirus programs Extracting the .ZIP archive shows an .ISO file a digital file format replicating a physical CD Mounting the .ISO brings forth four files: two .DLL files (one of which is the Qbot malware) one shortcut (posing as the file the victim is supposed to open) The shortcut does nothing more than bring up the calculator but here’s the fun part: when the calculator starts it will look for .DLL files needed to properly run It won’t look for them in specific folders but rather first and foremost - in the same folder as the calc.exe Which brings us back to the two .DLL files that the victim downloaded together with the Calculator Running the calculator will trigger the first .DLL file The practice is also known as DLL side-loading It is also worth mentioning that this attack does not work on Windows 10, or Windows 11 which is why the threat actors bundle the Windows 7 version The campaign has been active since July 11 Sign up to the TechRadar Pro newsletter to get all the top news features and guidance your business needs to succeed Via: BleepingComputer Sead is a seasoned freelance journalist based in Sarajevo he’s written for numerous media outlets He’s also held several modules on content writing for Represent Communications Click to read the article in Turkish / Kurdish The 1st Penal Chamber of the Court of Cassation has upheld the 15-year prison sentence previously given to Çilem Doğan who killed her husband Hasan Karabulut on July 8 Doğan had been subjected to systematic violence and forced sex work by her husband After killing Hasan Karabulut with his weapon in their bedroom in eastern Mediterranean province of Adana Çilem Doğan turned herself in to the police Facing an aggravated life sentence at the Adana 10th High Criminal Court Doğan was sentenced to 15 years in prison with sentence reductions on the grounds of "unjust provocation and good conduct." Doğan's lawyer applied to the 10th High Criminal Court and requested her release on probation 2016 that Çilem Doğan should be released with a bail of 50 thousand lira the Court of Cassation stated that the 15-year prison sentence of Doğan has been upheld which means that Çilem Doğan will be sent to prison again has announced the verdict on her social media account and said: "With this verdict Çilem Doğan has become one of the women who are punished because they didn't die."
