leading to a change in the film's functional properties [20]
Many works have focused on increasing these limits via the combination of natural starch and synthetic polymers
with filler and reinforcements substances in the TPS [21,22]
TPS is produced through mechanical and thermal energies in the presence of plasticizers on starch granules [23]

has been discovered in the tropical forests of eastern Brazil
A young male of the dry-forest sabrewing (Campylopterus calcirupicola) captured in the Fazenda Corredor
Dr. Leonardo Lopes, an ornithologist at the Federal University of Viçosa in Florestal, Brazil, and his colleagues placed the new species in Campylopterus
a genus of over ten hummingbird species from Central and South America
The sabrewings are very large for hummingbirds
The dry-forest sabrewing — scientifically named Campylopterus calcirupicola — has a total length of 5.5 inches (13.9 cm) and a mass of 6 grams, and closely resembles another member of the genus, the grey-breasted sabrewing (C. largipennis)
“The bird’s bill is long and slightly decurved; the tail is rounded, with 10 rectrices, the central pair being bright bronze green, the same color shown in the sub-central pair,” Dr. Lopes and co-authors said
upper and lower wing coverts are bright bronze green
with the pileum darker with coppery reflections; post-ocular white spot; remiges are bluish black with a metallic shine; underparts are uniform light grey except abdomen whitish; undertail coverts are light grey.”
but males in definitive plumage have the shafts of the three outer primaries
and strongly bent distally; and bill slightly shorter and straighter than that of female.”
The dry-forest sabrewing (Campylopterus calcirupicola)
The dry-forest sabrewing inhabits dry forests on limestone rocky outcrops or on limestone-derived soils
The altitudinal range of the bird is between 1,510 and 2,890 feet (460-880 m)
but it was recorded visiting flowers of native and exotic species: Justicia sp.
and Malvaviscus arboreus,” the researchers said
Given the several threats faced by the habitat to which the dry-forest sabrewing is endemic, the team proposes to consider it as Vulnerable under the IUCN criteria
“Campylopterus calcirupicola is uncommon to locally fairly common
with a patchy distribution across eastern Brazil,” the authors explained
“Indirect evidence suggests that this species has undergone significant population reduction in the near past and that this decline will continue in the near future due to decline in area of occupancy and habitat quality
11.5% of the dry forests of northern Minas Gerais were lost between 1986 and 2006
and the dry forests of the Paranã River basin suffered a 66.3% decrease in extent between 1977 and 2008.”
given the several threats faced by the habitat to which Campylopterus calcirupicola is endemic
we propose considering this species as Vulnerable under the A4 criterion.”
“We suggest searching for the species in areas of potentially suitable habitat in Goiás
and an increase in the size and number of protected areas with suitable habitat is also strongly encouraged.”
The new species is described in a paper published in the May 15, 2017 issue of the journal Zootaxa

A man with 98% of his body covered in tattoos found a new way to modify his body
Bocaiuva, Brazil - A majorly tattooed man who has spent over $35,000 on tattoos and body modifications has endured a first in the word of body mods by splitting his hand
Father and ink fanatic Marcelo De Souza Ribeiro has over 98% of his body covered in tattoos
but he's into much more than just ink therapy
Per the New York Post
the 40-year-old just became the first person to surgically split his hands
Better yet – he got the procedure done for free
one has to get creative with their body mods once they've had so many done
and the idea of splitting his hand came to Ribeiro when he was looking up new ways to alter his body
"I was already researching about body modifications in the world and from what I saw no one has yet made a similar modification," he said
"I’m making a new modification that doesn’t exist in the world yet."
Ribeiro approached his friend back in December who graciously agreed to do the hand-splitting surgery for free
The process started by doing surgeries on his hand to remove excess oil and fat
Ribeiro said he "began to see the possibility of making an opening in it through the middle where you can have opening and closing movements and a firmer folding of the hand!"
and now Ribeiro's split hand joins his expansive list of body mods that include fanged metal teeth
and several subdermal implants in addition to numerous piercings
Ribeiro said he's "happy with what I did I don’t feel any change regarding hand mobility

An artist has opened up about his decision to undergo three operations to modify one of his hands
Marcelo De Souza Ribeiro - who goes by 'B-boy' - from Bocaiúva
Brazil got his first tattoo at the age of 15 and has continued to alter his body ever since
the father-of-two embarked on a more drastic change in the form of undergoing three one-hour-long surgical procedures to modify his left hand
Already having had his ears modified to look like elf ears
it's fair to say Ribeiro wasn't as fazed by the prospect of getting his hand modified as most of us would be
He told Business Insider the three procedures conducted on his left hand were 'smooth
and not painful,' despite being performed by a friend for free - although
Ribeiro - who has over one million followers on Instagram - explained: "I can now open the hand laterally and fold it in two parts."
Ribeiro explains he thinks of his body much like an 'art exhibition'
the artist reportedly having spent around $35,000 dollars on his alterations
While Ribeiro is known to many as 'the most modified man in the world' - which seems believable given the lengthy list of procedures he's undergone - that's not actually the case, at least according to Guinness World Records
62-year-old Rolf Buchholz from Germany currently holds the world record title for not only the 'most body modifications (male)' but also the 'most piercings
Verified in 2012, 'he totalled 516 body modifications, among which there are several implants and 481 piercings (278 alone on his genitals), but the number has increased over the years,' the site explains
Buchholz reflected: "I didn’t do it for the record
with Buchholz's world record verified over 10 years ago
perhaps it has since been overtaken and potentially by Ribeiro

A tattooed dad with 98% of his body covered in more than 1,500 tattoos and several body modifications has inspired his kids to follow in his footsteps
Marcelo de Souza Ribeiro (38) has more than 1,500 tattoos across his body
he realized he wanted to take things further with body mods
Before getting the metal fangs, Ribeiro told the Mirror that he had been wanting to get them done for 10 years
"I love the shine and the look they have – they don’t impair my eating in any way."
The tattoo-obsessed man also admitted that he wants to get more tattoos done in the few areas he doesn't have any yet
like a small spot on his leg and his "more intimate areas."
But Ribeiro isn't the only one who wants more ink
his kids have expressed interest in following in his uniquely tattooed footsteps
His 19-year-old daughter Hilary has apparently already started her tattoo journey
getting her first piece of ink at the age of 17 and a handful more over the last two years
Ribeiro even told the outlet that his nine-year-old son Aleff
"always says he wants to get tattoos when he grows up."
Speaking of his family's opinions on his body art
which Ribeiro has spent roughly $33,000 on
Ribeiro said they were "never against my way of living and liking tattoos – even my mother has several."
