Daniel Braganca celebrates his goal for SportingNICOLAS TUCAT / AFPPSV Eindhoven were held to a 1-1 draw by Sporting CP at the Philips Stadion on matchday two of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) league phase after taking an early lead
PSV extended their impressive unbeaten run at home to Portuguese sides this century (W2
D3).The kings of their respective leagues met with perfect domestic records for 2024/25
but there were differing fortunes for the two on matchday one of this competition
The hosts had been convincingly beaten 3-1 by Juventus
as they were unbeaten at home in UEFA competitions across the last two seasons
And they started like a team boasting this record, taking the lead inside the opening 15 minutes when Jerdy Schouten scored his first Champions League goal
after latching onto a loose pass before firing the ball brilliantly into the bottom corner from 25 yards out
Sporting, who had won their opening fixture 2-0 against Lille, had a first half to forget by contrast. The visitors rarely threatened PSV’s goal, and to make matters worse, they were forced into substituting their key defender Ousmane Diomande off through injury with over an hour left to play
There would be no further punishment for Sporting, but the second half started just like the first, with PSV nearly doubling their advantage, as great chances for Ismael Saibari and Guus Til went narrowly wide of the post within five minutes of the restart
PSV - Sporting match statsOpta by StatsPerformThe hosts' high press continued to cause the Sporting defence issues, somehow not extending the lead when they won the ball back high up the pitch resulting in Luuk de Jong putting the ball just wide of the post after he set himself up nicely with a cute flick
It took the visitors the best part of 70 minutes to create their best chance of the match when Hidemasa Morita was put through on goal by Daniel Braganca
but the midfielder somehow got his legs muddled up before he could get his shot away
But the worst miss of all came from PSV shortly before the final whistle, when the usually reliable Johan Bakayoko pounced on a poor backpass to round the keeper and criminally put the ball wide of an empty net
The home side paid dearly, conceding just minutes later when Maximiliano Araujo’s deflected cross was turned in by Bragança in front of a jubilant set of away fans
neither side could find the all-important breakthrough and settled for a draw that extended Sporting’s unbeaten run to the season to nine games

Sporting Clube de Portugal maintained their unbeaten start in the Champions League after a hard fought 1-1 draw against PSV in Eindhoven
The Dutch champions took the lead in the 15th minute when Jerdy Schouten stole the ball from Geny Catamo and beat Franco Israel from distance
Eduardo Quaresma replaced an injured Ousmane Diomande in the first half and slipped over when presented with a golden chance to equalise in the 71st minute
Johan Bakayoko missed an open net in the closing stages and paid the price
Maxi Araújo’s deflected cross falling to Daniel Bragança who volleyed past Walter Benítez from close range
The early signs were worrying for Sporting with Geny Catamo looking lost and Ryan Flamingo winning his individual battle with Viktor Gyökeres
A loose pass from Gonçalo Inácio resulted in Guus Til’s shot being saved by Franco Israel
PSV stayed on the front foot and took the lead in the 15th minute
Catamo was too slow to react and receive Zeno Debast’s pass
Jerdy Schouten stealing the ball and beating Israel from long range
Johan Bakayoko fired wide before a poor touch from Debast gave the Dutch champions another opportunity
Ousmane Diomande got back to block Malik Tillman’s effort
the central defender rolling his ankle in the process and replaced by Eduardo Quaresma
Rúben Amorim’s side had a decent end to the first half
Gyökeres’ shot blocked by Olivier Boscagli and Inácio heading a corner wide in added time
Sporting got off to a terrible start in the second half when Quaresma’s loose pass was pounced on in the opening seconds
provided a chance for Til and headed Tillman’s cross straight at Israel
Rúben Amorim brought on Daniel Bragança for Catamo in the 52nd minute
but the chances kept coming for the home side as Luuk de Jong went close to scoring a spectacular solo goal
The veteran striker then showed his importance by getting back into his own box to stop Trincão
Peter Bosz made two changes in the 65th minute when Mauro Júnior and Saibari made way for Rick Karsdorp and Noa Lang
Kardsorp’s first involvement was delivering a cross to Til
Sporting stayed in the contest and had a fantastic chance to equalise in the 71st minute
continued his run and got the ball back from Morita
the centre-back somehow slipping over with Walter Benítez to beat
The game opened up which wouldn’t have pleased Bosz
Lang’s header saved by Israel and Geovany Quenda curling a low effort wide
Amorim made two more substitutions in the 80th minute when Maximiliano Araújo and Conrad Harder replaced Nuno Santos and Trincão
PSV took advantage of the open space on offer with Bakayoko the player to profit
The winger went close before another shot was comfortably collected by Israel
His best chance was yet to come and should have been the nail in Sporting’s coffin
Bakayoko intercepted a horror pass from Quaresma
Gyökeres turned provider with a great through ball to Harder
the young Dane going through on goal but unable to connect cleanly
Sporting’s persistence paid off in the 84th minute when they drew level
Araújo’s deflected cross falling into the path of Bragança who volleyed past Benítez from close range
Quaresma did well to get back and block a dangerous attempt by Lang
Harder testing Benítez in the final minute of the game with the goalkeeper up to the task
Rúben Amorim started the match without Jeremiah St
Losing Ousmane Diomande to injury in the 32nd minute was another blow
Geny Catamo has operating primarily as a wing-back this season
the youngster starting on the left wing due to the absences of Pote and Edwards
He looked completely lost and out of his depth in the first half before being replaced shortly after the break
Few would have heard of Ryan Flamingo outside the Netherlands
but anyone who watched the game would have been extremely impressed
The 21-year-old defender completely owned Viktor Gyökeres who hardly had a sniff in front of goal
but Peter Bosz had the upper hand for most of the match with his three man midfield taking Morten Hjulmand and Hidemasa Morita out of the contest
Geovany Quenda performed admirably in a difficult game
the 17-year-old gaining more invaluable experience after being thrown into the first team at the deep end.
PSV scored 111 goals as they cruised to the Eredivisie title last season and are on target to eclipse that tally this campaign
The Dutch champions won almost every individual duel
were the better team and Amorim will be more than happy to return to Portugal with a point
The Lions host Casa Pia on Saturday in what is likely to be another routine home win in the Primeira Liga
the international break coming at a great time for Sporting who will hope to have Diomande

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport
the arrival of Sergio Conceição as Milan's coach could open up new and interesting transfer market scenarios for the Rossoneri in January's transfer market window
thanks to the collaboration with the new coach's agent
it will be important to understand if Conceição can reintegrate Fikayo Tomori into the starting lineup and recover the summer signing Strahinja Pavlović
a new reinforcement in defense will be needed
Conceição's Milan could target António Silva
In attack, there will be a need to clarify the future of Samuel Chukwueze and Noah Okafor
It's unlikely both will be deemed useful for the cause
so one of them could be sold to make space for one of Mendes' brightest talents

and Wolverhampton before landing at Sporting Lisbon in 2022
considering his 6 goals and 11 assists in 27 matches this season

If you missed last year’s release of CAO Amazon Basin from General Cigar Co.
The limited-edition cigar is made with a five-country blend
but the standout tobacco is an Amazonian leaf in the filler called Bragança
Bragança seedlings are planted a yard apart from one another
which results in much smaller yields than those of typical tobacco crops
the leaves are rolled by hand into dense logs called carottes which undergo a six-month fermentation
the carottes of tobacco are then loaded onto a canoe and paddled out of the jungle down the Amazon River
the tobacco heads to the STG Estelí factory in Nicaragua
Like last year, the cigar comes in one size, measuring 6 inches by 52 ring gauge. The blend is also the same: a high-priming Ecuador Sumatra wrapper
a Nicaraguan binder and filler from Colombia and the Dominican Republic
it’s a bit more expensive with a suggested retail price of $14.49 (up 20 cents from 2024)
which has been one of the brand’s signatures since it was introduced in 2014

Brazil is considering the introduction of legislation that could represent a turning point in the world of work and cryptocurrencies: a new bill proposes the regulation of salary payments in Bitcoin and other crypto
precise rules will obviously be established to ensure transparency and safety for the workers.
The Federal Deputy Luiz Philippe de Orleans e Bragança has presented a regulatory proposal that would allow employers to pay part of the salary in cryptocurrencies
law PL 957/2025 authorizes voluntary and partial payments in Bitcoin and other digital currencies
it imposes the constraint of paying at least 50% of the salary in real brasiliano
the official currency of the country.
The introduction of this regulation could promote greater integration of cryptocurrencies into the Brazilian economy
following a global trend that sees more and more companies and professionals adopting Bitcoin as a payment method
The bill presented by Orleans and Bragança establishes a maximum limit of 50% on payment in crypto
workers will not be able to receive their entire salary in digital assets.
The exclusive use of cryptocurrencies for salary payments will be prohibited
except for specific categories of workers.
the regulation allows total payment in crypto only for:
This provision aims to protect the purchasing power of workers
by keeping a part of the salary in a stable and nationally recognized currency.
To ensure transparency and consistency with Brazilian financial regulations
the bill establishes that the conversion of salary into cryptocurrencies must follow the official exchange rate.
This value must be determined by an institute authorized by the Central Bank of Brazil to prevent speculation and ensure fairness in transactions.
The use of cryptocurrencies in payments could simplify business transactions
reducing bank fees and accelerating international transfers.
the volatility of crypto still represents a risk factor for workers
which is why the law provides for only partial payments.
is a descendant of the Brazilian royal family and is currently serving his second term as a Federal Deputy of the State of São Paulo.
He is known for his conservative positions and for his support of Truth Social
the social platform owned by United States President Donald Trump.
he has shown a particular interest in the cryptocurrency sector and economic sovereignty
supporting initiatives aimed at increasing the financial freedom of Brazilian citizens.
this regulation could have a significant impact not only on the job market but also on the entire crypto ecosystem in Brazil
The possible consequences include:
At the same time, the government will need to ensure clear regulations to prevent fraud and speculation. The creation of a stable regulatory framework could attract investors and companies interested in integrating cryptocurrencies into their payment systems
the regulations are still under discussion and may undergo changes before final approval.
The proposal by Orleans and Bragança represents an important step towards the regulation of cryptocurrencies in the world of work
but it remains to be seen how it will be received by the Brazilian Parliament and the economic operators in the sector.
it will be essential to monitor the evolution of the debate and any changes to the measure. Brazil could become a model for other countries interested in integrating cryptocurrencies into official payment systems
opening up new possibilities for businesses and workers around the world

The air route connecting Bragança to Portimão
according to the concessionaire company Sevenair
“Let’s fly together again and connect Portugal from north to south
From February 19th we will resume the regional air connection between Bragança
The regional air route was interrupted on 30 September
when the last direct agreement with the company Sevenair ended
while the outcome of the international public tender to grant the concession for another four years was awaited
It was in that month that the airline announced that the route would stop until the amount it was due to receive from the State was paid
as it was in a situation of “cash strangulation”
the number of daily flights had already been reduced
paid around half of the debt it owed the company
From the beginning of the concession until the service was stopped
first with the socialist government and then with the current Government
The result of the public tender was known at the end of 2024
being chosen to continue operating for the next four years
the Ministry of Infrastructure guaranteed that it was making every effort to resume the regional air route that connects Trás-os-Montes to the Algarve
Sevenair returned to operating regional flights between Bragança and Portimão on the 21 March
which had been interrupted since 3 March.
we will resume our daily flight activity between Bragança
which explained that ticket purchases are now available again
confirmed to Lusa that Sevenair has already paid the debt for the plane
which was held at Tires aerodrome due to restrictions imposed by the municipal company Cascais Dinâmica
due to the lack of payment of an alleged debt owed by the company responsible for the air connection
At issue was a disagreement regarding an alleged debt for handling fees
the services provided with the plane grounded
in the amount of 107 thousand euros plus VAT (or a debt of 132,471.95 euros
according to the local authority) that Cascais Dinâmica demanded
but which the carrier considered “not to be due”
The return to operation comes after Sevenair paid more than 130 thousand euros
as it considers that the debt was collected unduly
Lusa recalls that Sevenair questioned the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) about the legality of the assistance fee
as it operates under a “self-handling regime” with a company it owns
but the regulatory body concluded that the fee “is due by ground handling service providers or air carriers with a license for self-handling on ground”
“Sevenair prefers to exhaust the legal means available to it to finally speak
as the speed of justice does not keep up with reality
as soon as the State reimburses us what it owes us
the airline’s management had already stated during this interruption
in a statement to which Lusa had access to
the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing told Lusa that it expected to pay Sevenair 660.5 thousand euros in the coming days
relating to the fourth and final year of the previous concession contract for the public regional air link Bragança-Portimão
with the amounts of the direct adjustments made still missing
US rider tops Fábio Costa in two-up sprint for first pro victory
Hugo Scala Jr (Project Echelon Racing) outpaced Fábio Costa (ABTF-Feirense) at the uphill finish of stage 5 of the Volta a Portugal and captured the biggest win of his career
The 26-year-old US rider was part of the day’s 12-rider breakaway
and he soared to the front with his Portuguese companion in the closing kilometres to decide the 176.8km stage in a two-up sprint
Costa could not find go around and settled for second.
Julius Johansen (Sabgal-Anicolor) led a chase group of six riders across the line for third in Bragança
five of them together at 14 seconds back and the sixth rider falling back another three seconds
was allowed a leash of more than 4 minutes
which gave José Félix Parra (Kern Pharma) a taste of the virtual lead for a time
But ABTF Betão-Feirense stayed alert and did not give the front group more time and they kept Afonso Eulálio in the GC lead for a third consecutive day.
and holds a 16-second advantage over Colin Stüssi (Team Vorarlberg) and 26 seconds over Jon Aguirre (Kern Pharma)
the Volta a Portugal returned for a fifth day of racing from Penedono and headed north
After an early classified climb in the opening 25km
a 2.6km fourth-category slope at Mėda (5.8%)
the route passed through the Douro Valley.
The final half of the 176.8km stage then ramped back up with two more classified climbs
including the 12.1km stretch to Serra de Bornes
a category 2 section with an average of 4.5%
where the breakaway was gone for the rest of the day.

2024 Jerdy Schouten puts PSV ahead with a superb strike in the first half
Photo: ANP/Maurice van SteenPSV Eindhoven’s hopes of a first Champions League victory of the season were dashed as Daniel Braganca’s late volley earn Sporting Lisbon a point they scarcely deserved
PSV were the better team for most of the match and deservedly took the lead in the 15th minute when Jerdy Schouten’s long-range shot flew in off the post
But Peter Bosz’s side were unable to capitalise on their superiority
with Luuk de Jong and Guus Til spurning good chances in the second half
Instead Sporting came back into the game and minutes after Johan Bakayoko missed an open goal for PSV
substitute Braganca rounded off the counter-attack by flicking in a cross with the outside of his right boot
did not try to hide his frustration at the result
“I didn’t see it coming,” he said of the equaliser
“Before the 1-1 I didn’t think they created much
“We scored a good goal in the first half from Jerdy Schouten and after the break we started well and had a few good chances
But we didn’t take the rewards and we knew they could always be dangerous.”
PSV’s next match in the competition is against Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital on October 22

comforted by the Sacraments of the Holy Church and the Apostolic Blessing
after a long illness endured with Christian resignation and conformity to the will of God.”
This terse announcement touches not only upon the death of a remarkable individual
but of an entire chapter of history not too well known in Europe
and less so in the United States: the relatively short but not inglorious era of the Empire of Brazil
The last time the world press noted its existence was in 2018
when Rio de Janeiro’s former Imperial Palace—the Paço de São Cristóvão
now housing the priceless collections of the National Museum of Brazil—went up in flames thanks to technical incompetence
The Empire to which Dom Luiz was heir was born in 1822
and in a way very different from the birth of the republics of North and South America
had sought refuge in Rio de Janeiro— capital of the then world-spanning Portuguese Empire’s largest possession
King John VI returned to the motherland to deal with difficulties
The following year—partly inspired by the Wars of Independence ravaging Spanish America at that time—a movement arose seeking independence for Brazil
The King advised his son to spare Brazil the bloodshed in their neighbouring countries and take command of the Independence Movement himself
and in December of 1822 was crowned Pedro I
In order to intervene in Portuguese affairs
Pedro I abdicated in 1831 in favour of his son
Pedro II—a child at the time—and returned home
called “the magnanimous,” came of age in 1840 and presided over the greatest period of progress in Brazilian history
the country was spared the instability of its neighbours
was respected by both European powers and the United States
and the Emperor gained a well-deserved reputation as a scholar
and many other of the great names of his era
Count of Eu (and grandson of the usurping and then deposed King of the French
she was known to share her father’s distaste for slavery and desire for its abolition
which roused the plantation owners against the Imperial family
the republican positivism of August Comte spread amongst the army officers—leading many to oppose both the Monarchy itself and the Princess Imperial’s piety
while her father was in Europe seeking medical attention and she was regent
Her father returned and approved the measure
but the result was a bloodless military coup in December of the following year
The Imperial family went into exile in Europe
The new republic seized their property and decreed their eternal banishment
but the Princess Imperial was as opposed to bloodshed as her father and did not support them; they were quickly suppressed
Brazil’s new republic went on to enjoy a series of governmental mishaps and catastrophes down to the present—in very similar fashion to her neighbours
renounced his rights in order to marry a non-royal Austrian noblewoman
married Princess Maria Pia of Bourbon-Two Sicilies
He was active in supporting the Brazilian Monarchists until entering World War I; his service therein ruined his health
was born in 1909 and assumed headship of the Imperial house when his grandmother died in 1921
Pedro Henrique married Princess Maria Elisabeth of Bavaria
the eldest child of what would be 12 in all
Luiz Gastão Maria José Pio Miguel Gabriel Rafael Gonzaga de Orleans e Bragança was born in Mandelieu-la-Napoule in the south of France
Although the Imperial family underwent great privations during the war
The ban on their returning to Brazil having been lifted years before
the end of the war meant they could finally return in 1945
Guanabara Bay was wrapped in fog on the morning of our arrival
and so we could only see bits of the wonderful landscape: a bit of the Sugar Loaf and
Christ the Redeemer appeared among the clouds
one more thing impressed me deeply that day: it was the way the Brazilian monarchists
more in their gestures than in their words
a duty to the country that I was seeing for the first time
it was a grace from God that Rio de Janeiro was covered in mist when we arrived
because it is possible that the panorama of Guanabara
would have dazzled me so much that I would not have perceived something much higher
which were the souls of the Brazilians who welcomed us and the duty that this meant for me
The Imperial Family initially resided in Rio de Janeiro and Petrópolis before moving
before moving to Fazenda Santa Maria in Jundiaí do Sul in 1957
Dom Luiz came into contact with the reality of country life
Away from palatial splendor one might expect for a prince
something that would not have been so easily within his reach had he been born and raised in a royal court
Luiz studied at the schools Coração Eucarístico and Santo Inácio
where he studied political and social sciences at the University of Paris
and later chemistry and physics at the University of Munich
In the sparse free time that the rigid university course allowed him
he took the opportunity to make Brazil better known in the circles of the royalty and the high nobility
and also in the Catholic intellectual circles in Europe
He returned to Brazil in 1967 with a degree in chemical engineering
he took over the management of his father’s secretariat
who at the time lived in Sítio Santa Maria in Vassouras
a former coffee-growing center of the Empire in the central southern region of the state of Rio de Janeiro
The young prince’s moral and religious formation was complemented by Dr
and founder of the Brazilian Society for the Defense of Tradition
which Luiz joined upon his return—in order to defend authentically Catholic values and beliefs
and to defend Brazil from the great danger that threatened it
he was one of the co-founders of the Institute Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira
at a time when Brazil was going through the final phase of the military regime
During the constitutional assembly that followed the political climate was favorable to demand consistency from the republican authorities—openness
always assisted by his younger brother Dom Bertrand
knew how to skillfully take advantage of the new circumstances
reorganizing his Secretariat and initiating a broad work of linking the countless monarchists that existed in all states of Brazil
with a vitality that surprised many who considered it to consist merely of a few nostalgic supporters
After the National Constituent Assembly was convened in 1987
Luiz sent his “Letter to the Members of the National Constituent Assembly.” In this letter
he showed the senators and deputies who were then drafting the current federal constitution that it was not possible to continue denying a voice to monarchists when even communists and extremist ex-guerrillas freely participated in the public and political life of the country
366 delegates voted for abolition of the so-called entrenched clause
a constitutional provision that for nearly a century had left monarchists outside the law
There were 29 votes in favor of keeping it and five abstentions
Soon afterwards began the long and laborious campaign of the 1993 referendum
about Brazil’s form of government: parliamentary monarchy
Luiz did not think that the time for restoration had come
and he was under no illusions about the referendum’s outcome; he knew that the process would be worked out by the republican authorities
But he nevertheless took advantage of the occasion to spread monarchical ideals throughout Brazil
which has had some fruit down to the present
Although confronted with financial difficulties and unfair restrictions on access to radio and television to popularize his message
They had proved that the Monarchy was still an alternative and a hope for a large number of Brazilians
more focused on cultural than political aspects
participating in Monarchist meetings and related events
always maintaining contact with the real Brazil
Travelling to the United States and Europe
and attended important occasions of the European royalty and high nobility
Luiz sought to address the nation by means of press releases and statements
He also maintained a large correspondence and granted audiences to monarchists from all over Brazil
as well as journalists and other Brazilians who
wished to learn his opinions on a great variety of issues
Dom Luiz was also widely read and enjoyed classical music
He was Grand Master of the Brazilian Imperial Orders and member of a number of others
including the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre
President Jair Bolsonaro decreed official mourning throughout the country: civilian and military institutions throughout Brazil hoisted flags at half-mast in their headquarters and barracks
through the Special Secretariat of Social Communication
Several Brazilian states and foreign countries offered condolences
Sympathy notes were sent to the Imperial Family from all over Brazil
Expressions of regret came from reigning and former reigning families related to the Imperial Family
in the presence of the Honor Guard of the Brazilian Navy and detachments of the Brazilian Army
Dom Luiz was succeeded as the Head of the Imperial House by his brother
is now Prince Imperial; his heir presumptive
They and their followers have surely rededicated themselves to the cause of Restoration in Brazil
This tribute appears in the Fall 2023 edition of The European Conservative

It’s no secret that Sporting Lisbon possesses one of
Benfica and Porto have found success in scouting South American players and selling them for hefty profits
but Sporting’s key to becoming a perennial Champions League side is homegrown
10 of their academy products made their way onto the pitch in Portugal’s victorious Euro Final
including current Ballon D’Or holder Cristiano Ronaldo
Sporting’s academy continues to churn out top-notch talent
and it seems their next generation is living up to the hype with Gelson Martins becoming the Leões’s standout player this season
and Palhinha solidifying his reputation as one of the toughest midfielders in Liga Sagres
there is one 17-year-old who still plays for the U19 side
but who is bound to generate plenty of hype when he breaks into the first team: Daniel Bragança
I sought out to analyze the 17-year-old’s game in the only two full matches available on the Internet: Sporting C vs
Bragança is the captain and regista of Tiago Fernandes’ U19 side
a player who gives fluidity to possession while using fearless aggression in challenging for the ball
I couldn’t help but think Bragança would shine even brighter in a different system
Fernandes’ system is built on passing back to the goalkeeper
while another component is solo runs and through balls through the wings
There is little to no delicate build-up through the midfield
but he needs to play for a system that can let him control the center of the pitch for the majority of the game
chase down opponents for possession and win headers
and he needs a manager to get the best out of his qualities
When I first saw Bragança against Benfica’s C team
I criticized him for not getting himself available enough into positions to receive
A mediocentro should be getting himself in positions to aid the clean distribution of the ball out of defense
while also finding himself in positions to stop counter-attacks
it seems Fernandes instructed him to man-mark Benfica’s #10
This seems to be a common pattern; when I watched the Sporting captain against Real Madrid
he stuck to Madrid’s #6 like white on rice
Bragança has the potential to be one of the best registas in football
he needs to master the art of Juego de posición
His lackadaisical marking led to a Benfica counter at 36:40
Fernandes’ demands have made him man mark his way out of positional nirvana
This man-marking leads to Braganca being generally out of position sometimes
he is so advanced that when Madrid’s #8 spins one Sporting CB (#4)
leading to the other Sporting CB (#3) stepping out of line in order to tackle #8 and win possession back
The mediocentro art usually takes years to master
but when you look at the likes of Julian Weigl and Sergio Busquets
players who began starting for European elites when they were just kids
their positional sense was absolutely sublime
and Sporting’s board should seriously be considering moving him out on loan
he has executed Fernandes’ instructions well
and even risking fouls with his tenacious style
I think he will fit into the new crop of registas like Santiago Ascacibar and Amadou Diawara: a calming presence at the base who can also swarm an opponent for the ball like an angry hive of wasps
This component in the Portuguese’s game will make him extremely versatile
he’s quite impressive in this category
although he goes into a few too many due to Fernandes’ long ball philosophy
and as he carries the model of a controlling midfielder
the team’s build-up should be structured around him
especially in chipping passes over back to the center backs
he’ll sometimes see a player making a run
yet plays a through ball out for a goal kick
Bragança needs to find out what position is his best
tracking the movement of Benfica’s #10
his future is neither as a mediapunta nor a volante mixto
there are certain characteristics of passing each positional player must master
he has to improve his through balls and efficiency in the final third
he must improve the clean distribution of the ball out of defense
he shows glimpses that he can become a world-class metronome
His sheer quality on the ball is enough to place an investment in him
he didn’t see #7 rushing to win back the ball
and he lost possession seconds after he received it
Watching English football as often as I do
I’d have expected a 17-year-old to commit a foolish mistake in midfield
I expected him to clear it to Benfica’s goalkeeper with a larger midfielder closing him down
this play encapsulated not only the captain’s brilliance but the team’s system flaws
#17 does a roulette against several defenders
and strikes it to Sporting’s goalkeeper
who boots it into midfield for another aerial duel
The teenager can fortify his strength even further
but he does hold off players with relative ease and he always finds a way to get stuck in
using his body as a shield to win the ball
Bragança often rushes his decisions; he needs to realize that most of the time
he has more time on the ball than he thinks
He’ll usually make the right choice on the ball
but he needs a system that forces him to vary his decisions
So much of Fernandes’ system is built on through balls to the wingers
and the captain must learn the importance of diversity in a regista’s game
Sporting could not have found themselves a better captain
rushing over to the scene of the crime when a Madrid player commits a horrendous tackle on his teammate
indicating where they need to move to defend
while also pointing out where they must move to in order to receive possession
He leads by example in his effort and words
He tends to put himself into positions to mark and defend rather than to receive
and his defensive efficiency is quite overwhelming for a player so antithetical to a typical destroyer
He isn’t conservative in his challenges
and he sometimes even sticks a leg up in the air to win possession
but this shouldn’t be his foremost skillset
He has the blueprint to become a top-notch mediocentro
but his offensive positioning needs more improvement than his defensive positioning
There are occasions in which the teenager will rush his decisions without need
but he has a good general knowledge of the run of play
and is usually the most tactically advanced player on the pitch
he always scans the pitch to check his positioning
whether his team is in possession or defending
his positional intelligence needs the most work
he’ll either join the lines of defense in safeguarding against an attack
in order to become a world-class holding midfielder
What will set him apart from the likes of Sergi Samper and Rúben Neves
two promising regista projects who have stagnated
he can play across a midfield three but his best fit is at the base
As opposed to some of Sporting’s rising talents
Bragança won’t become an end product machine
His shots rarely force the goalkeeper to even make a diving effort
but he does press opponents with relentless determination
concentrating on winning the ball back from opponents
rushing them into playing long balls or making poor decisions
It’s his determination in hurrying the opponent that stands out
but his profile isn’t as a shuttler like Corentin Tolisso or Mahmoud Dahoud
Bragança must improve this area of his game
his ability to glide past pressing opponents and shield the ball from counterattacks
he needs a system which not only tests his locomotion but improves it
he plays in a system where the team plays solely through the wings
but they will decide to dribble it up the wing and lose possession
If he was tasked with protecting the back four instead of man-marking players and gegenpressing
but he should not be condemned to the role of the workhorse of the side
He was taken off midway through the Benfica match
but he puts in a solid shift where he harries players for the ball constantly
Even the likes of Marco Verratti and Xavi in his prime rack up kilometers pressing the opposition
so he could fit into the enhance blueprint eventually
and perform the requisite defending it necessitates
crossing and general accuracy from dead balls are nothing special
They rarely make contact with the intended target
but the system should limit his crossing to a minimum
Bragança’s dribbling has room for improvement
but his locomotion is the real necessity for a regista like him
as it does not seem like the 17-year-old will become a mezz’alla or forward
Even though he may find himself positioned as a second striker due to man marking duties
it is clear as day his best position is as a midfielder who operates in the first or second third
so it isn’t a necessary category for him to improve in given his profile
I would say that his strongest quality is his dedication to the coach’s advice
While this may turn him into a carthorse and shape him away from the artistic mediocentro he can become
His positioning is all over the place due to Fernandes’ demands
Not only does he adhere to the words of the manager
but also the demands that the armband carries
It seems to me he will become similar to Marseille’s Maxime Lopez with tenacious aggression
He leads by example in his ability and his vicious aggression
Should he develop into a holding midfielder
this tenacity will aid him in his positional transition despite his small stature
BOCA RATON, Fla. (WPEC) - A teen from Boca Raton allegedly used Snapchat filters to take photos of a pit bull puppy he's accused of killing
according to a report from Animal Care and Control
The investigation began in April when lawn maintenance workers called 911 to say they had seen a man beating a tiny puppy
the man beating the puppy dragged it inside a house where the puppy could still be heard yelping and crying
Braganca later told investigators he had spanked his dogs in the past for misbehaving but he didn't know why the puppy had died
Authorities said Braganca and his girlfriend brought the lifeless puppy to the Animal Hospital of Boca Raton
A hospital worker saw the couple taking Snapchat photos of the deceased dog
according to a statement from Animal Care and Control
The on-call veterinarian performed a necropsy and found signs of abuse
The veterinarian said the puppy died from blunt force trauma

How long have you been a Tahoe City resident
Since I moved here I only left once to take my masters degree in Fine Arts at CCAC
I worked in an art gallery in San Francisco and learned a lot
there are limitless places to be inspired here
There is no end to the beautiful landscapes and possibilities to paint ” the mountains
I like to hike up the Eastern Sierras backpacking
I have been painting for more than 30 years
I also have painted pet portraits for more than 25 years
which means “in full open air” or landscape painting
I have used chalk and pastel since the beginning of my career; along the years I have been through a transition to oil work
But what I try to do to in my paintings is simply capture the quality of light in the landscape
Do you think your style has changed over the years
I always hope to change and evolve over the years as an artist
I expect to never stick or stagnate to one style just because it “works.”
who influenced me to fall in love with “plein air,” and Jean LeGassick; I took workshops with both
Kevin is a very encouraging and generous teacher
he gave me a higher motivation to do “plein air.” Jean LeGassick
(I participated in one of her workshops two weeks ago)
She and I share the love for the mountains and outdoors
She makes this funny joke about “plein air” artists: How many “plein air” painters does it take to do a painting
So I have been encouraged by her to figure when to stop
I heard one of your paintings won the “Best of Show” at the Martis Valley Plein Air event at Northstar last month
I have a lot of paintings that didn’t work out
I don’t consider them absolute failures
there is always something that works in each painting and usually something I can learn from or use in another painting
Besides I am always perfectly happy with my own experience
to me what matters the most is the quality of the whole process
