Responding to the topographical conditions of the Tabernas Desert in Almería, the BCC- Grupo Cajamar Financial Center was developed by Arquitectos Ayala. This office project integrates the architecture into the surrounding landscape through a series of prisms arranged in a comb-like shape
Stimulating the dialogue between interior and exterior
the proposal is summarized in an interplay of solids and voids
which not only allows the entry of natural light but also provides views of the horizon and the sea from almost any point in the building
contrasts between light and shadow and intersecting lines result in a changing image of the building that is altered as one moves through it
For the office project, the team at Arquitectos Ayala conceived a flexible and modular layout
Under the premise "there will be no common area," outlined in the competition rules
the proposal is presented as a transparent and open landscape that fosters communication and teamwork
This encourages the building's various areas to be used equitably by everyone at some point during the day
the design of the solar shading was crucial
A double system of vertical aluminum slats and a series of precast concrete cantilevers protect the interior from direct sunlight and optimize lighting and views to the exterior
The new building for the BCC Financial Group
was conceived with meticulous constructive rigor
streamlining the construction and taking advantage of the natural resources provided by the environment
BCC Financial Center- Grupo Cajamar by Arquitectos Ayala
Description of project by Arquitectos Ayala
The proposal addresses an office program within the context of the Tabernas Desert
where architecture plays an instrumental role within the framework imposed by the landscape
a series of prisms arranged in a comb-like formation are organically scattered across the terrain
responding to its topographical and formal conditions
Like the spaces between the fingers of an open hand
introducing light and views so that from any point in the complex
The building’s appearance changes as one moves around it and approaches its entrance
Visitors might wonder: Do we have to go back inside
conceived as the convergence of the office wings around an interior void
creates a spatial experience filled with shifting perspectives
A new dialogue emerges between interior and exterior
levels and lines will be the lasting impression for visitors passing through the building
The design of the office floor follows a flexible and modular layout
creating a transparent and open landscape that promotes communication and teamwork conditions
Meeting rooms and social areas are located at the ends of the wings
ensuring equal conditions for all occupants
situated in the central sections of the wings
meeting rooms overlook either the sea or the lobby
ensuring their shared use by all throughout the day
The competition brief specified that “…there will be no privileged areas”; the solution was to make every area equally significant
The proposal embodies an underlying idea of constructive rigor and efficiency
materialized through a simple geometry designed to rationalize construction and optimize natural resources
solar protection design is central to the building’s energy optimization and the quality of its interior lighting
A dual system of vertical aluminium louvers
configured differently depending on façade orientation
protects the interior from direct solar radiation while optimizing lighting and views
prefabricated concrete overhangs contribute to solar protection and extend workspaces into the outdoors
The resulting ensemble presents a transparent image
generating a dynamic interplay of velvety colours throughout the day
More than 2,000 workers carry out their daily activities on this new campus
which features over 2 hectares of landscaped outdoor spaces
designed to enhance the connection with the spectacular setting where the sea and desert merge

Located in the Scientific-Technological Park of Almería (PITA in Spanish)
the new Financial Center of the Banco de Crédito Cooperativo-Grupo Cajamar is the result of a competition
which proposed the construction of a building that could bring together the central services of the institution
The winning project proposes a scheme which makes the most of the site’s virtues while solving its problems
The office program is organized in a series of prisms arranged in a comb shape
which permits introducing light and views between them
so that from any given point of the complex one can enjoy the sight of the horizon and the sea
The lobby is conceived as a meeting space between the different arms
the same facades onto the sea are deployed
favoring the dialogue between interior and exterior
The fragmentation of the space and the arrangement of the volumes in different directions creates a strong contrast between the singularity of the pieces and the unity of the complex
giving the building a bold and recognizable image
The proposal is based on constructive rigor and efficiency
starting from a simple geometry that tries to rationalize the construction and make the most of natural resources
The use of prefabricated elements has allowed reducing costs and executive phases
aside from guaranteeing a sustainable construction
The building includes external sun protection mechanisms with aluminum slats that adapt to the different orientations to protect the interior spaces from direct sunlight
a high-performance floor-to-ceiling glass facade
allows maximum use of natural light inside
prefabricated concrete cantilevers protect from sunlight and generate outdoor workspaces
while the access areas are fit out with horizontal aluminum slats
The resulting complex offers a transparent image and generates a dynamic play of velvety colors during the day
The design of solar protections is based on an exhaustive study of sunning conditions
acknowledging the importance of the sun in optimizing energy use and improving lighting conditions inside
The building has obtained LEED GOLD certification

Spain's Grupo Cooperativo Cajamar banking group achieved the best result in its history in 2024: its net profit reached 326 million euros
The Andalucía-based bank has raised its profitability (ROE) to 7.8%
4.5 percentage points higher than the previous year
these "historic" results are based on the "positive evolution of the banking business's own income"
"The momentum and recurrence of financial activity has favoured double-digit growth in all margins of the income statement
helping to improve profitability and efficiency
while maintaining its solid level of solvency," said Cajamar who pointed out that companies such as S&P
Fitch and DBRS Morningstar have upgraded the rating of Grupo Cajamar to investment grade
Net interest income continued its upward trend with growth of 14.3% year-on-year
together with the results from joint ventures
pushed gross income up 16.6% to 1.5 billion euros
Joint ventures form the results of entities valued by the equity method plus fees from insurance and pension plans
generating an increase in operating income of 14.7% and an improvement of 1.8 percentage points in the efficiency ratio to 47.2%
But the big difference was the lower impact of asset impairment
which in 2023 amounted to almost 410 million euros and in 2024 remained under 197 million
the bank highlighted "the good performance of managed retail funds and the year-on-year growth in credit investment"
which raised the total managed business volume to 104,121 million
Lending reached a total of almost 38.6 billion euros
with an outstanding 9.2% growth in loans to companies
The consolidated loan portfolio remains diversified and new financing of 17.4 billion euros was granted
of which 42.5% was allocated to the agri-food sector
33% to large companies and 24.5% to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro-SMEs
This distribution shows that the agri-food sector continues to be considered strategic for Grupo Cajamar
The bank's continued support has made it leader in market share for the primary sector in Spain
Cajamar has stated that it continues to be "among the significant Spanish institutions with the lowest non-performing loan (NPL) ratio"
while maintaining the upward trend in the NPL coverage ratio
The Andalusian bank's managed retail funds amounted to 57.9 billion euros
sustained by an increase of 8.5% in on-balance sheet retail funds and 22.3% in off-balance sheet funds
mainly due to the dynamic marketing of mutual funds
the market share of deposits rose to 2.84%
0.14 percentage points more than in the same quarter in 2023
Grupo Cooperativo Cajamar closed 2024 with 5,062 employees
who serve more than 3.8 million customers through 976 branches and rural counters
including eight mobile branches that provide financial services to 54 villages with between 170 and 1,500 inhabitants
The bank has also highlighted the growth of its digital channels
The 6.7% year-on-year increase in Cajamar's eligible capital raised its phased-in solvency ratio to 16.1%
as well as the phased-in CET 1 ratio to 13.9%
These figures enable Grupo Cajamar to maintain comfortable buffers over the regulatory solvency requirements
The MREL ratio increased by 1.5 percentage points
exceeding the final requirement of 23.08% set for 1 January 2025
The growth of managed retail funds and access to wholesale markets
with issues of senior debt and covered bonds totalling 1.1 billion euros in 2024
enable dGrupo Cajamar to maintain a comfortable liquidity position
It has a liquidity coverage ratio (LCR) of 218.1%
a net stable funding ratio (NSFR) of 152.5% and a loan-to-deposit (LTD) ratio of 79.6%
it has the capacity to issue new covered bonds for an amount of almost 3.7 billion euros

The operation came to public attention on 1 June 2022
The National Police and the Guardia Civil arrested the founder of the subtropical fruit company Frutas Montosa
on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol as the supposed mastermind of an alleged money laundering plot
José Luis Montosa was investigated for the alleged crimes of belonging to a criminal organisation and tax fraud
but was released after paying a 200,000-euros bail
The then 67-year-old businessman from Vélez is owner and sole administrator of the company founded in 1982
which is a leader in the subtropical fruit market at European level
He is also a director of the Vélez-Málaga branch of the Cajamar bank
The final figures of the joint operation carried out by the National Police and the Guardia Civil
were much higher: 82 people were arrested and investigated for alleged tax fraud of four million euros in IVA (Spain's sales tax) and corporate tax
According to a joint press release issued by the two forces at the time
the operation has enabled "the dismantling of a criminal network dedicated to tax fraud
false documentation and money laundering in the purchase and sale of subtropical fruit on the eastern side of Malaga"
the case is still being heard in a court in Vélez-Málaga
where there are already more than 550 people under investigation
according to sources from the Andalusian high court of justice (TSJA)
"They are being summoned to take statements
but the matter is very complex," sources have said
The same sources added that "there have been no changes in the situation of those under investigation"
none of them is in prison and the owner of the company is the only person involved who has had to pay bail to be released
the same alleged crimes continue to be investigated
ended in mid-2022 with the arrest of 82 people for their alleged involvement in the events
including the alleged mastermind of the scheme
It is estimated that the amount defrauded from public finances exceeds four million euros for tax offences in corporate tax and IVA
To this amount must be added those relating to important voluntary regularisations carried out
by the main investigated parties "as a result of a first round with more than 50 arrests and other amounts that are estimated to be in the millions
in the personal income tax of more than 300 front men"
which took place in the towns of Alhaurín de la Torre
seizing more than 1.7 million euros in cash
eight high-end vehicles and a large amount of documentation that would prove the alleged fraud against the public treasury
the financial products of the investigated parties and the companies controlled by the network were blocked
as well as dozens of vehicles and hundreds of properties
made up of a multitude of individuals and legal entities
was allegedly systematically defrauding the public finances with a network of false invoicing based on alleged expenses incurred by Frutas Montosa
of generating fictitious purchases for which undue IVA payments were made
with the consequent fraud against the public finances in different taxes and fiscal years
the criminal plot relied on a large number of people from a wide variety of occupations including businesses in the sector
The investigation began National Police and Guardia Civil officers detected that intermediaries in the fruit trade in Axarquia were invoicing the sale of large quantities of subtropical fruit of unknown origin to companies in the sector
using for this purpose the interposition of people of limited means with no links to the agricultural world
as fake farmers to whom the plot was invoicing fruit that had really been produced and delivered to the fruit wholesaler by local producers who did not wish to declare it
who provided their documentation in exchange for a small financial benefit
were registered as agricultural workers by the criminal organisation
which allegedly falsified the documents for the purchase and sale of the subtropical fruit in order to make the activity appear legal and introduce the products on the market
The network also included numerous agricultural producers
legally registered in the established regime
who did not wish to invoice their entire production so as not to legally declare the real harvest and thus obtain various tax benefits
the first operational phase was carried out
leading to the arrest of 55 people and the practice of eight house searches
which resulted in the seizure of 770,585 euros in cash
the blocking of bank accounts with a balance of 360,403.69 euros
the seizure of a large number of movable and immovable assets
as well as the intervention of a significant volume of physical and digital documentation
action was taken against the management of the criminal organisation and the network of transporters issuing false invoices
agents attached to the UDEF economic and fiscal crime unit in Malaga began an analysis of documents that allowed them to climb up the ladder
finding evidence of the involvement of both the owner of the leading company in the subtropical fruit market and of several workers
A specialist in judicial assistance from AEAT joined the case which
together with the work of the police investigators
led to the uncovering of a millionaire fraud against the public finances through an extensive network of false invoicing and the use of intermediaries or front men
both in the fruit market and in other support services for the same
twenty searches were carried out at the homes of individuals and legal entities
including one at the headquarters of the leading company in the sale of subtropical fruit
the seizure of 991,855 euros in cash and five high-end cars
and the blocking of financial products belonging to those under investigation and the companies controlled by the network
Among those under investigation are an employee of a Cajamar bank branch where the fraudulent cheques were paid
cheques issued in favour of the fake farmers and which were cashed by the organisation in a bank in Vélez-Málaga
and also a senior member of the main suspect's company
who was in charge of the accounting and management of the organisation's cash 'B' account
When the operation hit the media in June 2022
Frutas Montosa announced that it had opened an internal investigation and denied that the operation affected its business solvency
"We are the main interested parties in clearing up the case as soon as possible," said the subtropical fruit company at the time
the company continues to operate normally in the national and international markets
It should be noted that among the 550 people under investigation is the mayor of Iznate
The court in Vélez-Málaga is investigating alleged offences of membership of a criminal group
tax fraud and money laundering within the subtropical fruit company Frutas Montosa

“Bringing the reality of digital transformation to our distribution centre in Cajamar is expected to increase the end-to-end efficiency of our operations significantly – it will not only reduce delivery time to customers
but also optimise supply chain operations by reducing equipment downtime and reducing overall power consumption.”
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Monday (Apr
7) that Brazil has sufficient foreign exchange reserves to withstand decisions made by the Donald Trump administration
Speaking at an event to announce investments in the logistics sector in Cajamar
Lula also reaffirmed that the Brazilian economy will once again grow more than expected in 2025
Brazil is secure because we have a cushion of $350 billion
which gives both the country and [Finance] Minister Fernando Haddad a certain peace of mind,” said Lula at an event hosted by the e-commerce company Mercado Livre
According to the most recent data from Brazil’s Central Bank
international reserves stood at $338.6 billion as of last Friday (Apr
when including the approximately $17 billion auctioned by the Bank since last year—under agreements to be repurchased in the course of this year—the total rises to $355.6 billion
Mercado Livre announced it would invest $5.7 billion in Brazil this year alone
the company’s confidence in the country is well-founded
as the Brazilian economy is expected to continue outperforming forecasts in 2025
driven by recent government measures to boost credit and stimulate consumption
that the Brazilian economy will surprise everyone
Those who keep talking about the so-called market and debating the economy don’t realize that microcredit is working—and that money is reaching the hands of thousands
the economic recovery has already been felt in recent years
He pointed to wage increases above inflation for several professional categories as an example
“The minimum wage has risen above inflation for two consecutive years
Employment has been growing steadily throughout the year
And credit is expanding rapidly across the country—very strongly,” he said
Since Donald Trump announced tariffs on foreign products
stock markets in several countries have declined
Brazil’s growth will not depend on external factors
“It doesn’t depend on anyone—not the United States
“That’s all we ask—we’re not asking for much
We just want to be treated with respect and dignity
it’s you who produce this country’s wealth,” he said
During his visit to the Mercado Livre Logistics Center
President Lula was accompanied by Fernando Yunes
senior vice president of Mercado Livre in Brazil
who outlined how the company’s $5.7 billion investment will be allocated this year
“This contribution will help us advance our logistics operations
The amount will be invested in Mercado Livre
Yunes also announced that the company will hire an additional 14,000 people this year
bringing its total workforce in Brazil to 50,000 by the end of the year
Mercado Livre is Latin America’s leading e-commerce and financial services company
operating in 18 countries and employing over 84,000 people directly
Its Brazilian operation accounts for 54 percent of the company’s total business

A gang of thieves is behind an explosion at the Avenida de Andalucía branch of ING bank in Malaga city centre which happened at around 12.30am this Friday
Two loud bangs were heard in the area and emergency services received several calls alerting them to the noises
The bank suffered extensive damage as a result of the blast
Explosives or acetylene gas are commonly used in this type of crime
which causes detonation with an electrical spark from a distance
allowing them to gain access to the cash in the ATM machine
A rapid police operation was activated to try to catch the perpetrators as they fled along Avenida de Andalucía
As it is one of the main routes in and out of the city
the thieves were able to make a quick getaway towards the motorway
a road chase ensued during which the offenders reached speeds of over 200 kilometres per hour
