The first matches and segments for AEW Dynamite have been announced
This coming Wednesday’s show will see The Young Bucks and Ricochet team up to take on Swerve Strickland
Strickland has been looking to get his revenge on the Young Bucks after they cost him the AEW World title back at Dynasty
The Elite were also victorious in an all-star eight man tag on last week’s Dynamite where they defeated Kenny Omega
Samoa Joe will continue his war against the Death Riders
It was Castagnoli who took out Katsuyori Shibata on Wednesday
giving him the Gotch piledriver on the bottom of a steel chair
This all comes prior to the steel cage match between Joe and Moxley that takes place on May 14
A sit-down with Jamie Hayter has also been announced

· Alvarez, Ferman and Wüthrich have a new review paper on inference with few treated units
only one or a few units (or clusters of units) are treated….A key challenge in such settings is that standard inference methods based on asymptotic theory may be unreliable
even when the total number of units is large”
Here one needs to make more assumptions to make progress
typically relying on model-based approaches
“We organize the presentation of the different model-based inference methods according to data availability
We first consider methods that are valid even in the extreme case in which there is only one treated unit and one treated period
The main challenge in this setting is that there is very limited information on the distribution of potential outcomes of the treated unit in the treated period
the solutions proposed in the literature rely on extrapolating cross-sectional information from the untreated units or time-series information from untreated periods to infer the distribution of the treated potential outcomes
The choice between these alternatives should depend on the data availability and on the assumptions one is willing to make regarding the distribution of the errors in modeling the potential outcomes”

“A big question is: “How do we think about the good policies
while bringing in the political economy constraints”
I think we understand very little of the political economy constraints
the settings that politicians are in and the incentives they have to adopt policies
such as those that will improve people’s lives in the short run but are not helpful in the long term
The literature in political economy has moved towards documenting some of the failures in developing countries but we haven’t moved towards understanding the other side of it: what are the political economy constraints that incentivize the adoption of the good policies?”

Ranieri’s side earned their third consecutive 1-0 win thanks to Artem Dovbyk’s header from a well worked corner just before half-time
who is set to retire from football once the season ends at the age of 73
“I always ask the maximum from the players,” the Roma manager said
We must be happy with what we will have managed to achieve
“But I want to say that today we played against a very strong team
but we couldn’t because they moved the ball well
2025) – Chicago Fire FC II today announced that the Club has acquired forward Claudio Cassano from Italian Serie B side AS Cittadella
and we see him as a player with the potential to make an impact at the first-team level,” said Chicago Fire FC Sporting Director Gregg Broughton
“His signing highlights our focus on leveraging Chicago Fire FC II and MLS NEXT Pro to develop players who can quickly transition to MLS
We’re excited to support Claudio’s continued growth and look forward to seeing his contributions to the Club.”
joins Chicago Fire II after spending six years in the AS Roma youth system before transferring to Serie B side AS Cittadella in August 2023
registering 32 minutes in a 2-0 win against Parma
the young forward has played in 42 matches for Cittadella
scoring four goals and registering three assists
“Claudio is a special talent and to bring someone who came through the ranks at AS Roma shows elevation of the standard we’re setting at the Club,” said Chicago Fire II General Manager Alex Boler
“We are confident he will fit our environment and philosophy and are excited to welcome him to Chicago.”
Cassano won the Copa Italia Primavera in the 2022-23 season after featuring for the U-17
registering 15 assists across all age groups
Cassano’s work rate caught the attention of then Roma head coach Jose Mourinho
who included him on the roster for Roma’s Europa League match against Real Betis on Oct
Cassano has appeared on three occasions for the Italy U-20 Men’s National Team
participating in Group 1 of the European U-20 Elite League against Czechia
Transaction: Chicago Fire FC II acquires forward Claudio Cassano
His MLS NEXT Pro contract will run through 2027
The decision to bring on Matias Soule was entirely yours and he was the match-winner
with the team building their advantage through one-on-one situations
They could not be with us today and we really wanted to make them proud of us with a performance like this
I told the players that if an incident punishes us
we must still leave the pitch with our heads held high
We are in good shape physically – so why not go for it
“I think the first half an hour was really very good
they adjusted well and we did very well to stay organised and close off all the spaces that they tried to exploit.”
I really liked the way you stopped Inter playing their game with four players – Lorenzo Pellegrini
Eldor Shomurodov and Bryan Cristante – and with Manu Kone acting almost like a sweeper in midfield
I had seen him play like that for France and really liked him
Could you tell us a bit about these two tactical choices
“We’d already used this system away to Udinese
Back then it was [Devyne] Rensch rather than Soule and we executed it really well
That’s why I showed the lads that match again and told them we needed to reproduce that kind of performance
This might be your last time here at San Siro
“I am genuinely happy for the fans and the players
It wasn’t easy and we hadn’t beaten a big side this season
Today we put an end to that against a team we all know the strength of
Fiorentina are next and we must focus on that match
They’re a good team too and in fine form.”
Winning 1-0 shows great control and nerves of steel
Do you think the one area for improvement is taking chances
as Roma had several opportunities to kill off the match earlier on
particularly with Inter committing numbers forward in the hunt for an equaliser
We’ve had a few 1-0 wins this season where we’ve missed lots of chances
but what matters is always bringing home the three points.”
“We’ll enjoy Ranieri until the end of the season.” How much are you enjoying it yourself now
Still a 0% chance of a rethink?(Smiling) “I’ve already handed back my coaching licence at Coverciano.”

Manu Kone on Claudio Ranieri’s impact: “I needed him.” | OneFootballRomaPress
Roma midfielder Manu Kone gave a lengthy interview to Sky Sport where he spoke about Claudio Ranieri’s importance to the team
When asked about the veteran technician’s impact
he has a lot of international experience and has done well everywhere.”
“He encourages me a lot in every training session
he suggests how to position myself on the pitch and how to improve my tactics.”
“The fact that we can speak French is a great help
we have direct communication and he manages to encourage me in the right way.”
“Ghisolfi? He is a very important person for me,” said Kone of the Roma sporting director. “He was the one who wanted me here at Roma
who showed me how much the club wanted to focus on me.”
“We talk every day, even before and after games. He encourages me a lot, because he knows me and knows that I can improve. Speaking the same language has helped us build a good relationship, I am happy to be able to work with him here at Roma.”

He’s the savior of a team that's been unbeaten in Serie A since December 15
Those nightmare months at the start of the season feel like a distant memory now
when "La Loba" was going through hell — first with the firing of Daniele De Rossi
then the resignation of Greek CEO Lina Souloukou (after threats from hardcore "giallorossa" fans)
and finally the short-lived stint of Croatian coach Ivan Jurić
who was sacked in November after just two months in charge
Things were really bad: two coaches fired in the first four months of the 2024-25 season
and three in total over the whole calendar year
starting with Portuguese manager José Mourinho getting the axe back in January
By the time Claudio Ranieri arrived in November
Roma had gone through four coaches in just one year
"Sir Claudio" had already announced his retirement in the summer of 2024 after saving Cagliari
but when the call came from "his" Roma — the club he played for in 1973-74 and coached twice before
from 2009-2011 and again at the end of 2018-19 — he just couldn’t say no

pushing them up to sixth place with 60 points
The final stretch won’t be easy — they’ll be facing direct rivals like Atalanta
and they'll have to do it without Argentine star Paulo Dybala
thanks to a goal by Argentine youngster Matías Soulé
who are dreaming once again of the Champions League
all thanks to "Sir Claudio." It would be a perfect farewell gift from a coach who’s always been devoted to the "giallorossi" colors
Ranieri will step down from the bench and move into a front office role at the club

Claudio Chamon will join the Purdue University College of Science beginning fall 2025. Photo by Frank Curran
Quantum science is the next frontier in scientific achievement and Purdue University is committed to blazing the trail forward in this ever-expanding realm of high-tech adventure. As quantum devices become more and more sophisticated, it is important to have top notch researchers expanding the field. Claudio Chamon
an expert in electron fractionalization and topology
will be joining the College of Science’s Department of Physics and Astronomy for the fall of 2025 and will further elevate Purdue’s standing in advanced physics research and education
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Claudio Chamon to our college’s faculty,” said Lucy Flesch
“His internationally recognized work in electron fractionalization and its implications for condensed matter physics adds a significant dimension to our research capabilities.”
Chamon's research has revealed the existence of fractionally charged topological excitations in systems where time-reversal symmetry is respected. His research has been cited over 13,000 times and over 5,000 times since 2019
“I study how particles behave when they interact in large groups and the unique forms of quantum matter that result from these interactions,” said Chamon
“Some special systems behave as if their building blocks carry only a fraction of an electron's charge
The unusual properties of these fractionalized building blocks — called fractional quasiparticles — could be useful for processing quantum information and creating stable qubits for quantum computers
My work has focused on how to understand and build quantum states containing these fractional quasiparticles.”
The talent-based Moveable Dream Hires program is piloted by the Deans and Provost to attract high-performing
top-caliber faculty to Purdue even when the topic-based openings in a given year do not match the moveable talent
It complements typical topic-based faculty searches across the University and enables the recruitment of faculty who may not be actively on the job market
These recruits are tenure-track or tenured faculty.
and doctorate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
He was awarded an NSF Early CAREER Award in 1999 and was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2008
His research focuses on strongly correlated quantum matter and the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of classical and quantum systems
“What excites me most about joining the faculty at Purdue is the opportunity to contribute to and be part of forward-thinking initiatives
specifically its Quantum Science and Engineering pillar,” said Chamon
“I am looking forward to collaborate with world-class researchers in an innovative
interdisciplinary environment led by the College of Science at the Hall of Data Science and AI
I am also thrilled to join the Physics and Astronomy faculty
and together push the boundaries of knowledge in quantum many-body physics and mentor the next generation of scientists.”
His research winds through the ever-growing field of electron fractionalization
from quantum Hall states that are sustained at large magnetic fields
to a novel type of quantum Hall fluid that he and co-workers theoretically predicted and that were recently observed experimentally to exist at zero magnetic field
He also proposed fractionalization in graphene-like structures
we showed that fractionally charged topological excitations exist in two space dimensions in tight-biding systems where time-reversal symmetry is respected,” said Chamon
The topological zero-modes are mathematically similar to fractional vortices in p-wave superconductors
They correspond to a twist in the phase in the mass of the Dirac fermions
akin to cosmic strings in particle physics,” said Chamon
“The quasiparticle excitations can carry irrational charge and irrational exchange statistics
These excitations can be deconfined at zero temperature
the charge re-rationalizes to the value 1/2.”
In addition to leading his own research group of physics students and postdocs
Chamon envisions fostering collaboration with faculty in the Theoretical Quantum Science Neighborhood
He said this setup would encourage interaction among members from various disciplines — physics
and computer science — by creating a dynamic research and learning environment
He believes that a collaborative model such as this will be ideal for training the future quantum workforce
“Many of the possible exotic quantum states of matter
which could be valuable for quantum information processing and quantum computing
are difficult to find in naturally occurring materials,” said Chamon
“My current research focuses on leveraging symmetry principles to design superconducting circuits capable of realizing these quantum states
creating blueprints tailored to specific target certain states
which bridges both quantum science and quantum engineering.”

FILE - Claudio Ranieri enters the field prior to an Italian Serie A soccer match between Roma and Empoli
“I had stopped coaching,” Ranieri said in his first press conference back
“I have to say I have had more offers these past few months than when I won the Premier League with Leicester
“I told someone that there were only two cases in which I could return to coaching: for Roma or for Cagliari
if something happened to go wrong there,” he said
“But I was super convinced that I had stopped
that I would watch soccer from a different place
“When I returned to Cagliari I said that my story started at Cagliari and would finish at Cagliari
Evidently it’s fate — I started at Roma as a player and I will finish as a director and coach.”
Ranieri said he was called about the possibility on Monday and flew to London to meet Roma’s American owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin
There they decided that he would be the team’s third coach of the season and will make the step up to an executive role at the end of the campaign
Ranieri becomes Roma’s fourth coach this year
with De Rossi having taken over for Jose Mourinho in January
And they have jeered the team during several matches this season
something Ranieri has pleaded with them not to do anymore
“(The players) give their all and we shouldn’t boo them,” he said
At the end of the match I’ll come in front of the stands and you can boo me
The fans have certainly had a lot to jeer in a crisis-filled season
Roma has lost four of its past five Serie A matches and sits in 12th place
13 points below league leader Napoli and just four points above the relegation zone
It has also won just one of its four Europa League matches
“I don’t know (why Roma is in this situation)
there are a thousand questions and honestly I’m not interested because if I start talking about what happened yesterday
I will not figure anything out,” Ranieri said
given a clean slate and I have to do my utmost with these players
So I’m not interested in what happened before
I’m responsible for what happens from today onwards.”
who took charge of his first training session on Friday
will have a tough start to life back at Roma as he will swiftly have to rebuild his players’ confidence ahead of a tricky series of matches
He faces a difficult debut at Napoli in nine days followed by a home match against second-place Atalanta the following weekend
Roma also plays away at Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League inbetween
from the medical staff to the coaching staff
they all have to help me because I have to make as few mistakes as possible,” Ranieri said
we’re starting now and immediately we have three games
“I have to send the fans home saying ‘at least we gave everything’ — if things happen to go badly — ‘we fought right to the very last second.’ They should leave the stadium proud of the team
That is what I promise to the fans and to myself.”
What works one week no longer works the next
Trends seem as short as the TikTok videos explaining them
This is where the game is supposedly going
When clubs recruit coaches these days, the decision-makers want analysts to run through a deck explaining why the candidate’s ideas are fresh. They don’t want yesterday’s man. They tend to want a 30-something German or a Basque from an unpronounceable village with the letter X in its name
Claudio Ranieri, on the other hand, turned 73 a couple of months ago. When he left the Cagliari job last summer, everyone assumed it was to retire, collect his pension and play with his grandkids. But football won’t leave Ranieri alone. “I had more offers in the last few months than when I won the league with Leicester,” he said
he boarded a plane to London — a regular flight
with ordinary people like you and me — hailed a cab and told the driver to take him to Claridge’s
the luxury hotel where Roma’s owner Dan Friedkin was staying
The Texan wished to know: would Ranieri come out of retirement for a third spell with the club he had supported as a boy
a member of Roma’s most recent title-winning side (2000-01)
was also in the frame for the job after resurrecting his career with the Turkish national team
Whoever accepted to become Roma’s fourth coach of 2024 would need guts
brains and a big heart — all things Ranieri had held in his hands as a butcher’s boy growing up in the San Saba neighbourhood of the Italian capital
At the time, Roma found themselves 12th in 20-team Serie A and in disarray. They were enduring their worst start to a season since 1979. The fans, some of the most vociferous in the world, were in open rebellion. They intimidated chief executive Lina Souloukou into resigning and harassed captain Lorenzo Pellegrini and fellow senior players Bryan Cristante and Gianluca Mancini
It was the lowest ebb of the Friedkins’ ownership
Three years of underperformance in the league had been covered up by Jose Mourinho’s charisma and controversies, the conquest of a first trophy in 14 years and back-to-back European finals, albeit in UEFA’s second- and third-tier competitions
The financial losses caused by repeated failures to qualify for the Champions League and investing €115million (£95m; $119m) net in Mourinho’s first summer mattered little to fans as long as big names Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku kept arriving and the Friedkins showed respect to the club’s history and tradition
a few months into a new three-year contract and after spending another €100m ended that
Ivan Juric, his replacement, was introduced with the stated belief his appointment fell in line with the owners’ ambitions to win trophies. The ashen Croat was sacked within six weeks, having decried “a s**t situation.” What must he think of Southampton
he answered the club’s call in another hour of need
having been Champions League semi-finalists in 2018
were sixth at the time and risked missing out on Europe’s blue-riband competition for the first time in six seasons when he stepped into the breach
it really is saying something that Roma were in a better state back then than they were in November
But the context was eerily similar: a palpable antipathy towards the owners manifesting itself in scathing banners inside the Stadio Olimpico on matchdays and outside the team’s Trigoria training complex
So Ranieri put his scruples over De Rossi to one side and heard them out
he was offered the chance to move upstairs and become an executive at the end of the season
he still left the fans with the impression that this wasn’t about power and that he would do the job for nothing
So long ago that goalkeepers could still pick up backpasses
For all the Michelin stars given out for molecular gastronomy and plates served with micro-herbs tweezered onto them
He has played to the gallery by not ruling out a return to the club for Francesco Totti in some capacity. He’s played his best players. Mats Hummels, Leandro Paredes and Dybala are all World Cup winners
Juric inexplicably overlooked the first two
was asked to chase after defenders rather than make them chase after him
Ranieri rectified that and doesn’t seem to care that as long as Dybala keeps playing, his contract will be automatically renewed with a salary escalator; something De Rossi and Juric always had in the backs of their minds. He also took the much-criticised players Pellegrini, Cristante and Nicola Zalewski out of the spotlight
defending the skipper — a Roman like him — in the press and leaving him out of the starting XI
so neither he nor the team had to play under a cacophony of whistles every time he touched the ball
Ranieri rather unexpectedly brought him back for the biggest game of the year
Pellegrini apparently had a “mad desire” to play — and it showed
curling in a shot from the edge of the box after a breathtaking transition
It evoked memories of another derby from 14 years ago
when Roma came back to win after he boldly took off his figli di Roma — or sons of Rome — Totti and De Rossi at half-time
This Pellegrini decision was a new twist in man-management from Ranieri
a skill far more vital than whatever tactics reel is trending on social media
this time from a goal kick with Alexis Saelemaekers pouncing on his own rebound to clinch a 2-0 victory
The Belgian’s return from injury has been another reason for Roma’s upturn in form
Dybala — who is “worth the ticket price alone” in Ranieri’s opinion — was involved in both goals and spent the rest of his time on the pitch drawing bookings from Lazio players. Ranieri has even got him vibing off the stiff Artem Dovbyk
who acted as a backboard in the build-up to Pellegrini and Saelemaeker’s strikes
a Saudi full-back signed from the Saudi Pro League
plays like a Saudi full-back signed from the Saudi Pro League
He’s raw and has become a cult figure for the wrong reasons
that they are still 10th and 12 points behind their arch-rivals
who currently occupy the last Champions League qualifying spot
and a banner in the Curva Sud before kick-off offered a reminder to that effect
Voi feccia della societa,” it read — We’re the symbols and colours of this city
A fifth win in seven in all competitions is giving him confidence the worst is over
“Now we are a team,” he told broadcaster DAZN
look a more credible proposition in what remains an incredible league position for a squad with this wage bill and this level of talent
Ranieri has been given input into who will be hired to coach Roma next season
The questions Ghisolfi keeps getting asked are: ‘What if he picks himself?’ and
‘What if the Friedkins let their emotions get the better of them
as they appeared to do when making De Rossi’s interim appointment permanent?’
But as each one passes and football moves on
Ranieri will continue to make it look the same
His relatively ancient set of skills for managing football teams is as eternal as Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations

Roma have 'made contact with ex-Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas' to take over in the summer
The Italian side are currently being led by Claudio Ranieri in his third stint at the helm but his short-term deal expires in June
having called it a day when rescuing Cagliari from relegation the season before
He agreed to take charge and has led Roma to sixth, within touching distance of the Champions League spots.
But the club recognise that he is not the long term solution and are putting the feelers out for a new boss.
Fabregas has emerged as one of the top candidates and is currently in charge of Como, who he has led to a comfortable mid-table position in their first season back in the top flight.
He is regarded as a rising star of management and Sky Sports Italy have reported that contact has been made by Roma already.
Stefano Pioli, Ajax boss Francesco Farioli and Genoa's Patrick Vieira are also in the frame for the job.
Fabregas might have Ranieri's blessing to take over after a touching conversation between the pair when Como faced Roma earlier in the season.
'I hope to become like you,' said the former midfielder.
'No, you don’t have to hope for that, you need to hope for better. I tell you that from the heart', Ranieri replied.
The veteran boss then went on to tip Fabregas, 37, for the top, telling a TV interviewer: 'I told Fabregas that he will reach very important levels.
'A coach this young who makes the team play in this way is destined for the top clubs.'
Arteta's first foray into management has matched the early success of his stellar playing career.
He broke onto the scene as a talented teenager at Arsenal, going on to make more than 200 appearances for the Gunners.
He then signed for Barcelona in 2011 and went on to win one LaLiga title and a Copa del Rey before switching back to the Premier League, joining Chelsea in 2014.
Fabregas scored 15 times in 138 games and helped the Blues to two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and Europa League.
He then rounded off his career with a stint at Monaco and then Como before transitioning into coaching.

American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) is proud to announce that Dean Emeritus Claudio Grossman has been honored with the Nelson Mandela Award by the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) International Human Rights Section (IHRS)
This highest distinction in international human rights recognizes individuals whose extraordinary achievements have profoundly impacted the global pursuit of justice
The award was presented during a special ceremony at the AALS annual meeting on January 9
The event included remarks from Eduardo Bertoni
director of AUWCL’s Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law
who highlighted Professor Grossman’s exceptional contributions to advancing human rights and international law
“Professor Grossman’s life and career are a testament to resilience
and unwavering commitment to the principles of justice and human dignity,” Bertoni said
“As a co-founder of the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law
his leadership has helped make AUWCL a global hub for human rights advocacy
The ceremony also featured personal remarks from Nienke Grossman
the daughter of Professor Grossman who is currently professor of law and co-director of the Center for International and Comparative Law at the University of Baltimore School of Law
sharing heartfelt reflections on his profound influence on both her personal and professional life
though at times it has felt like we were sharing him with the entire world,” she said
short of having a clone or an identical twin that I don’t know about
I just cannot imagine how he does everything he does.”
Professor Grossman expressed deep gratitude to the selection committee and reflected on the collective nature of his accomplishments
“This award is not just for me but for the collective ‘me and my circumstances,’” he said
invoking Spanish philosopher José Ortega y Gasset
who taught me resilience and the belief in our shared humanity
from facing political oppression in Chile to contributing to international law as chairperson of the United Nations Committee Against Torture and a member of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights
He credited those who supported democratic transitions in Latin America and reminded attendees of the enduring lessons from Nelson Mandela’s life
“Mandela’s example teaches us that a life worth living is one with purpose,” Grossman noted
and the creation of space for others to continue the fight for justice and dignity.”
AUWCL celebrates Professor Grossman’s remarkable legacy
His lifelong dedication to justice and the rule of law exemplifies the values of the Nelson Mandela Award
and his work leaves an indelible mark on the field of human rights
The prog-metal guitarist on why the career spanning concept of The Amory Wars was borne out of insecurity
and why he knows exactly when it’s time to pick up a Gibson
he’s surrounded by other people on a tour bus
he’s with his wife and writing partner Chondra Echert and their ten-year-old son Atlas
When he found himself staying in an Airbnb in Paris all by himself – his wife on a writing retreat in Italy
his son back in the US – the conditions felt jarring and foreign
That was when his mind ran off without him
Being alone with your thoughts can be dangerous,” Sanchez considers
bundled in a coat on a chilly early February early
sipping coffee in the upstairs room of a Leicester Square pub
I actually thought I thrived because at least I had my family
whereas this was a moment where I was completely alone.” He began imagining what it would be like if that solitude were more permanent
in the alternate universe where he hadn’t met his wife
where they hadn’t brought their son into the world
Coheed and Cambria’s new album The Father Of Make Believe – the next volume of the band’s ongoing story of The Amory Wars – is a narrative of intertwining hypotheticals
(The song on which he explores that question
feels eerily like a eulogy written on a postcard for the future)
Who would he be in the infinite alternative realms in which he’d taken a right turn in life instead of a left
Everything that it brought to the fore exemplified the somewhat existential midlife crisis Sanchez was going through
Sanchez was still processing the deaths of both his grandfather and his uncle
there’s this throughline of mortality,” he ponders
“Death kind of scares me and it makes me very sad
I didn’t experience much loss because it was sort of sheltered from me
but now I’m getting older it’s becoming much more prevalent.”
Death makes the living jolt – it’s a reminder of the ever-encroaching inevitable that’s easy to forget in a fast-paced world
Brushing as close to it as we do in times of loss provokes us to find a sense of perspective in life
but it’s natural to look over one’s shoulder and wonder
would we be satisfied with how our time panned out
This was chiefly what Sanchez was exploring
he realised he’d stepped a fraction closer to the lives his grandfather and uncle were living
his grandfather outliving his grandmother by a few decades
he and his wife would be separated too – when they vowed to love each other till death do them part
the gravity of that parting perhaps didn’t hit home as hard as it could later
there’s at least one universe out there now where his grandparents are reunited
It takes place in The Father Of Make Believe on the tender yet epic mid-album highlight Meri of Mercy
in which the character of Sirius Amory – a stand-in for his grandfather – from earlier volumes of The Amory Wars returns and reunites with his wife Meri
It was a beautiful day and the view from the window was amazing
It just reminded me of them and the possibility of them potentially reuniting in the afterlife
I told my mother that I brought him back and she was so touched by that.”
The other song Sanchez wrote in that Airbnb follows directly after Meri & Mercy on the tracklist – and sonically
expelling his overflowing reserves of anger that he says he was trapped with at that period
Intertwined within its introduction of a new character
to The Amory Wars is a sense of the New Yorkers fighting back against the notion of being underrated
As he was looking back and questioning his path
Sanchez began questioning the perception of his band and the creative decisions he’s taken along the way
the genesis of The Amory Wars came from his feeling that he couldn’t quite own his narrative
“I created The Amory Wars out of insecurity,” he considers
“I couldn’t see myself as the frontman of a band
What better way to make myself more comfortable than to hide behind a curtain
I find myself more comfortable with who I am and am willing to pull back the curtain and wonder how I would be perceived and would things be any different if there hadn’t been a concept tied to the band
The concept for The Father Of Make Believe began gestating not long after the cycle concluded for 2022’s Vaxis II: A Window Of The Waking Mind
Because there was so much pressing on the walls of Sanchez’s mind
he felt that there was no need to stop writing music – there was more he had to express while his emotions still burned hot
he had some scraps left over from writing A Window Of The Waking Mind as well
amorphous ideas that hadn’t yet been fleshed out
Some material from this time fed into what became Goodbye Sunshine
“I really do feel like The Father Of Make Believe was just an extension of the writing process of A Window Of The Waking Mind
The thing I learned now that the record is finished is that our way of writing is more in line with the fashion of what we’d done maybe when the band was younger
When we toured on The Second Stage Turbine Blade
we had in our setlist In Keeping Secrets and that album wasn’t even recorded yet
It’s important for me to continue to express myself and write
Those are really the main things that I have in the room when I’m writing
something that can give me the dirt that I need
but something that seems pretty smooth for the lighter stuff.”
Intriguingly, Sanchez is starting his own guitar company, Evil Instruments. Working with the California-based manufacturer Dunable, the burgeoning business showed off its first model, the Jackhammer, at NAMM earlier this year
Sanchez had spent two years playing prototypes
all of which stemmed from a design he sketched out on paper while on a flight one day
“It’s a fairly classic, unique body type, and I’m really excited about it,” says Sanchez. “It’s a two humbucker situation, the neck profile sort of mimics what I am comfortable playing weight wise as well. There are two versions. There’s like a stock version import that one can get, and then there’s also a US custom version that will come assembled with Bare Knuckle pickups that are the ones that I typically play.”
The present looks exciting enough, but what about the future? Although there are points, such as on Goodbye Sunshine, where the record feels very final, there are still two more volumes of the Vaxis series to come. Sanchez isn’t worried about it. In a way, he just has to live his life and the story will write itself.
“Life will dictate what the story is going to be. But for the most part, like, I know how I dance, and I’m really excited about it, because I think it’s a fairly unique way to put closure on the whole thing. But I won’t know how I get there until I write those records, until whatever life experience happens that informs what the songs are about.”

Responding to several news reports, the team at Claudio’s in Greenport wants to assure the public that after 155 years on the water
the Claudio’s name isn’t going anywhere
“The name has not changed; it is still Claudio’s Waterfront,” and “it will open for the season on a spring schedule over Easter weekend,” a representative told Greater Long Island Friday
The company will be introducing two new concepts at its sprawling campus later this spring
“But everything is at Claudio’s,” the rep said
This all comes as the business is expanding its brand onto Paradise Island in the Bahamas
The main interior dining space at Claudio’s is being renamed Charlie Boy at Claudio’s
“Charlie Boy is a sophisticated yet approachable all-day café concept,” the company informed GLI in a statement
“Rooted in the rich traditions of Italian-American cuisine and elevated by a fresh
Charlie Boy offers an experience that is as refined as it is welcoming — a true embodiment of attainable luxury.”
Charlie Boy is taking over what’s now called Claudio’s Tavern & Grill
The outdoor dining on the dock, before known as Crabby Jerry’s is being reimagined as Common Country East
“Common Country is a reimagined country restaurant and bar,” the statement reads
“blending the laid-back spirit of coastal living with an elevated food and beverage program
all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Greenport’s harbor
“Common Country East will have elevated bar fare — fresh seafood and summer classics to signature cocktails
and a carefully curated selection of beers and whiskeys.”
Both concepts will open toward the end of May
Claudio’s used to be famously recognized as the longest continuously operated restaurant in the U.S. run by the same family, with the same last name. It was opened in 1870 by Manuel Claudio
That run lasted for 148 years until the business and properties were sold in 2018

playMarcotti: Ranieri a short-term solution for Roma (1:20)Gab & Juls discuss Claudio Ranieri's return to Roma
Claudio Ranieri has been appointed as Roma's third head coach of the season, the Serie A club announced on Thursday
It is the third time the Italian has taken charge of his hometown club
He led the team between 2009 and 2011 and returned for a two-month stint in 2019
He also played for the Giallorossi during the 1973-74 campaign
A statement from Roma said Ranieri will coach Roma until the end of the season with the official title of Technical Director of the First Team before taking on a role in senior management in which he will advise the club's owners on all sporting matters
Roma will continue to search for a new long-term coaching appointment
a process that Ranieri will be involved in
The 73-year-old had announced his retirement from management after helping Cagliari avoid relegation from Serie A at the end of last season
He is the third head coach to take the helm at the Stadio Olimpico during a tumultuous campaign for the club. His appointment follows Daniele De Rossi's exit four games into the season and the 12-match reign of Ivan Juric who was sacked on Nov. 10
Ranieri has never won the Serie A title during his extensive career in management, but did miraculously guide Leicester City to the Premier League title in 2016 after the club had finished 17th in the previous campaign
Roma are 12th in Serie A having won just three of their opening 12 league games this season
So reads an Instagram post published earlier today by Claudio’s in Greenport
announcing a Bahamas location is coming soon
Greater Long Island has reached out to the Claudio’s team, but the company’s Bahamas site is live, and it looks like a taste of LI is headed to the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island
Claudio’s Bahamas will open next month
“Whether you’re coming by land or sea
Claudio’s is all about making good moments great,” the Bahamas location page on the Claudio’s website reads
every visit leaves you with fond memories and a longing to return.”

It was opened in 1870 by Manuel Claudio. That run lasted for 148 years until the business and properties were sold in 2018, according to widely circulated media reports.
Now, after 155 years, Claudio’s is opening a second location.

Claudio’s new Bahamas location in the Atlantis resort has a 378-seats
the current owners of Claudio’s announced a new outpost of the iconic Greenport seafood spot in another iconic seafood spot: the Bahamas
Opening in the 400-acre Atlantis Resort & Casino on Paradise Island by mid-May
the restaurant will serve Claudio’s classics with a Bahamian twist
like New England clam chowder made with Bahamian conch and Claudio’s signature lobster roll made with Caribbean spiny lobster
“[The owners] want to expand the brand so people can know about the North Fork,” says Claudio’s general manager Juan Skinner
who is overseeing the staff training on the Atlantis project
“There’s so much on the North Fork that people have no idea about
Replacing the space that once held the Virgil’s Real Barbecue
the sprawling spot is entered from the Coral hotel
where you’ll immediately find the Claudio’s sign in navy blue cursive hung on a white wall rimmed by turquoise tile
High on the walls in the tented roof-capped dining spaces are black and white images of fisherman and waterside life in both the Bahamas and the East End
tables and booths along with white and navy chairs fill the sweeping 378-seat capacity space
“Our signature cocktails are all classic Caribbean cocktails — we call it ‘Drink through the Caribbean’,” says beverage director Sheila Dominelli
of bringing the rum-centric fun of the Bahamas to the cocktail program
Drinks like the Goombay Smash and the Pain Killer are also the names of the boats that hang from the ceiling
“Fun fact is the boats are actually licensed so if you see them on the water
they’re the same names,” Dominelli says
There will also be outdoor seating and an al fresco gazebo bar overlooking the Atlantis waterways
As for news of Claudio’s in Greenport
the owners continue to keep that under wraps
but stated that the dockside Claudio’s Waterfront will be open Easter weekend
and that lunch dining hours will continue through mid-May
According to a representatives for Claudio’s
a modern honkytonk-esque restaurant and lounge with coastal-themed vibes and food
will take over the dock space that held Crabby Jerry’s
They would not comment on plans for Claudio’s iconic main restaurant
except to say that a job posting that went up recently on Indeed citing several new hospitality projects in the Claudio’s spaces was incorrect
“Current ownership is partnering with Gansevoort Street Hospitality to reimagine the iconic Claudio’s complex,” says Laura Cocivera of Chapman Communications
the PR firm handling Claudio’s inquiries
work on Claudio’s Bahama location speeds along
“It’s North Fork comes to the Bahamas,” says Skinner

A longtime chapter in Greenport history came to a close in 2018: After more than 147 years owned by the same family
In a message on the business' Facebook page
longtime owners wrote: "To our many wonderful friends
Beatsy and the late Jerry Tuthill — the Claudio/Tuthill family — would like to publicly announce the sale of our businesses
While this marks the end of a long era for our family
we believe it also serves as a new beginning for the property
one which we hope will be filled with innovation and growth."
When reached by phone by Patch at the time, owner Bill Claudio — who died in 2019 — said he was happy about the announcement
The Facebook message said that change was necessary for advancement and after being at the helm for 27 springs
the family was moving on confidently knowing the vision and drive of new ownership would allow future generations to experience and enjoy what their family had built over 147 years
but we are also pleased to share that some things will remain the same
The Claudio name will live on with the property and all three eateries will continue to serve
inviting you all to come and make new memories each season
as in so many seasons past," the Claudio family said at the time
"Owning restaurants is not just a profession
and closing the door on this chapter for us comes with many mixed emotions
Greenport Village runs deep in our DNA and while we are glad to have seen Claudio’s be such a big part of the downtown growth for many years
we are also sad we will no longer be so woven into the fiber of what makes the community tick
We’ll be watching with eager anticipation over the next few years as we believe many exciting changes are coming; not just to our property but to the village we love so profoundly and have called home for so long," the family wrote
From the very bottom of our hearts — thanks for the memories
they have defined our lives," the message said
Claudio's had long been the oldest single-family run restaurant in the country
The property had been on the market since 2015 when it was sold

Manchester City made a fuss of Claudio Echeverri’s arrival at the club
The 19-year-old was captain as Argentina finished second in last month’s South American Under-20 Championship
and with six goals on the way to the final
All smiles in his new home! 😃 🇦🇷 pic.twitter.com/jc4hHXHiRx
— Manchester City (@ManCity) February 27, 2025
He went straight into training with Pep Guardiola’s squad last week and will spend the rest of the season in Manchester
although first-team action is not necessarily on the cards just yet
he has good skills,” Guardiola said on Friday
He then immediately started talking about upcoming games against Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion
giving an idea of how difficult it is for a new
we have long weeks to train and prepare well
Guardiola had said the youngster could feature “maybe for the end of the season
referring to the inaugural Club World Cup this summer
but there is going to be a patient approach from his new club
City and River Plate agreed to let him stay on loan in Argentina when they agreed an initial £12.5million ($15.9m) deal at the end of 2023
the Premier League side did not expect him to make a sudden impact when he eventually arrived and that has not changed
The thinking all along has been that Echeverri will be given — and need — time to bed into the first team setup
with a loan elsewhere not ruled out either
Comparisons with Julian Alvarez were somewhat inevitable when the deal was agreed because a) the transfer fees were similar
and c) both were allowed to stay at the club before arriving in Manchester
But Alvarez was 22 and had played more than 100 senior matches
whereas Echeverri was 18 with just one senior start to his name
And while he clearly sparkled with his country at the recent under-20’s tournament and now has over 50 senior appearances under his belt having broken into the River side
his form over the past 12 months has not matched the level of expectation in his homeland
The highlight reel of his goals and assists for Argentina Under-20s clearly demonstrates the talent City have secured: there are no cheap assists
with most usually coming after a mazy dribble or driving run (the only exception a well-weighted pass over the top of an exposed defence) and his goals are all very well taken — even the sole penalty was a Panenka against Brazil
he stands out more in his own age groups — as he also did in the Under-17 World Cup around the time City signed him — than he does in senior football
He is very much a player who tries to attack whenever he gets the ball
which is usually in the No 10 position behind the opposition’s midfield
He has a very good ability to wriggle out of tight spaces with quick footwork and body feints and that is something that helps him dribble well
He often looks to play through balls and his creativity is obvious just from those Argentina age group highlights
even accounting for the fact that even the best playmakers tend to give the ball away more than anybody else on the pitch
This was something that was evident from the available evidence 12 months ago and with far more senior matches under his belt
including when it comes to pressing opponents
Although the Argentinian league can be a brutal place
he had to toughen up physically to impose himself more on games and he may still be short of the level needed to shine in the Premier League
Breaking into River’s first team was obviously an important step
but he did not consistently influence matches
as four goals and six assists in 41 matches in the most recent campaign suggests
River have endured a difficult year and in much the same way that few individuals have shone at City this season
Echeverri has hardly been in an environment conducive to showing his best form
but it does mean that he arrives in Manchester with plenty of work to be done on his game
It might be helpful here to establish some possible parallels
City signed two young centre-backs in January
with Abdukodir Khusanov already starting to show a good level after an admittedly torrid debut
but he has adapted well and has shown a passing range that was rarely given an opportunity to shine at Lens
While Khusanov has already played against Chelsea
has been given a far more gentle introduction
with two starts against Football League opposition in the FA Cup
Reis and Echeverri actually captained their countries at that Under-17 World Cup in 2023 and sources say the Brazilian was signed with the intention of becoming a regular option for City in the coming years
albeit after an initial period of adaptation and a need to develop physically
Echeverri seems to slot in between Reis and
the Sierra Leone defender that City also signed in January but immediately loaned out to Lens
The 18-year-old could also spend next season on loan and he is not considered a viable first-team option in the way Khusanov and Reis are
Echeverri will be in Manchester and will always have a better chance of finding a place in the team
but then there is the example of James McAtee
who has been at City since he was 10 and has had two years of senior English football with Sheffield United
He has struggled to get game time for Guardiola
even when the midfield looked run into the ground at the end of last year
In terms of Argentinian mid-season signings
Echeverri might be more similar to Maximo Perrone than Alvarez
settled immediately and contributed to huge success for club and country
Perrone signed from Velez Sarsfield a year after Alvarez and a year before Echeverri
He actually made his Premier League debut a month later
but although he was highly regarded by the City coaches
He has the technique to fit in at City but maybe not the physical profile
It is not that Echeverri does not deserve the fanfare around his arrival
nor that he is destined for years spent on loan away from City
he may be able to develop his game quickly in a new environment
But there is an acknowledgement that he will need time to fully break into the City team despite their woes this season because of his relative inexperience and because Guardiola generally experiments far less after February — something he has already alluded to when discussing the ‘finals’ coming up
City are pushing for a top-four finish rather than the title this season and perhaps those lower standards might present an opportunity for Echeverri
but it might not be until the more experimental Club World Cup setting that their latest arrival can showcase his talents

Claudio Ranieri has described his return to Roma as "fate" after the Italian coach was appointed as head coach of the Serie A club for a third time
The Premier League-winning manager led the team between 2009 and 2011 and returned for a two-month stint in 2019
Ranieri is set to be in charge in Rome until the end of this season before moving into an executive position at the club as they search for a permanent head coach
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Ranieri said he would have only ended his self-imposed retirement for the team from the Italian capital or Cagliari
"Before we start it seems right to clarify that I would have only unretired for Roma or Cagliari," he said
"Fate wanted me to end my career as a manager here
"I was surprised by how much the Friedkins [Roma's American owners] care about Roma and now it is up to me to do what I can
we will see if we can talk to him to understand if he can help us
but it is not a given that he will return to Roma," Ranieri said of Totti's comments
Roma are 12th in Serie A having won just three of their opening 12 league games this season. Ranieri is the third manager of the term, after Daniele De Rossi was sacked after four games and Ivan Jurić's unsuccessful attempt to right the ship.
