O The academic performance of students covered by PAAIS (Affirmative Action and Social Inclusion Program) throughout 2005 was better than that of other colleagues in 31 of the 56 courses at Unicamp
The numbers were presented last Friday (9) by rector José Tadeu Jorge in a press conference in which an assessment was made of the first year of operation of the program
established in 2004 and implemented in the 2005 entrance exam
PAAIS provides that students who have completed high school in the public network will receive
It also adds 10 points to the final grade of self-declared black
mixed race and indigenous candidates who have attended high school in public schools
who chaired the working group that formulated the program two years ago
highlighted that the research numbers demonstrate that it is possible to achieve social inclusion by adopting alternative models to those proposed by the quota system
reserving places brings with it the risk of worsening the quality of teaching
Unicamp is heading in the opposite direction by proving that the level of education has not only preserved its level of quality but also makes those benefiting from PAAIS one of the vectors of this same excellence

PAAIS students had a higher annual average (known as CR) than their colleagues in 31 of the 56 courses

The success of the inclusion program can also be attested to in the increase in the number of students whose family income goes up to five minimum wages

The most important aspect of the program is the addition of points to the candidates' final entrance exam score

Brazil counts 87 mining dams built using the same method
That design is risky if not monitored carefully
and experts have warned that a collapse could happen again in a country where neither the mining industry nor regulators have the situation under control
We looked at each of the 87 upstream dams to estimate if it could threaten populated areas
using geospatial analysis to estimate where the mud could flow if each of the dams failed
more than 1,000 people live in high-risk areas
That means they are downhill from the dam and within eight kilometers — the distance the mud flowed after the Brumadinho collapse

Molybdenum (Mo) and its isotopes have been used to retrieve palaeoenvironmental information on the ocean–atmosphere system through geological time
Their application has so far been restricted to rocks least affected by severe metamorphism and deformation
which may erase or alter palaeoenvironmental signals
Environmental Mo-isotope signatures can be retrieved if the more manganese (Mn)-enriched rocks are isotopically depleted and the maximum range of δ98Mo values is close to the ~2.7‰ Mo-isotope fractionation known from Mo sorption onto Mn oxides at low temperature
we show that the Morro da Mina Mn-ore deposit in Minas Gerais
contains Mn-silicate–carbonate ore and associated graphitic schist that likely preserve δ98Mo of Palaeoproterozoic seawater
despite a metamorphic overprint of at least 600 °C
The extent of Mo-isotope fractionation between the Mn-silicate–carbonate ore and the graphitic schist is similar to modern Mn-oxide precipitates and seawater
Differences in δ98Mo signals are broadly reflected in cerium (Ce) anomalies
which suggest an oxic–anoxic-stratified Palaeoproterozoic ocean
should record deposition in euxinic waters to account for Mo enrichment
Morro da Mina offers a remarkable opportunity to apply the Mo proxy to Mn ore that attained at least 600 °C
as well as to its associated graphitic schist
We report U–Pb ages of detrital zircon grains from (i) quartzite
to bracket the depositional age of the Morro da Mina queluzite in the Barbacena greenstone belt
place new constraints on the palaeoenvironmental conditions of Mn deposition
and demonstrate that Mo-isotope signals can be retrieved after amphibolite-facies metamorphism
Geological overview of the Morro da Mina Mn-ore deposit (geology mapping by N.C.V.). For simplification, quartzite intercalations in quartz–biotite schist are not shown, but the location of the quartzite sample MM-1, from which detrital zircon grains were recovered (Fig. 2)
The deposition of manganiferous sediments is constrained between about 2.07 and 1.86 Ga
This correlation connects the Mo-isotope signals of Mn oxidation with Ce recycling due to reductive dissolution of Mn-oxide particles across the contact between oxic and euxinic waters – i.e.
The positive Ce anomaly of most queluzite samples is mirrored in the negative Ce anomaly of graphitic schist
It should be mentioned that a shuttle of Mn oxides to the seawater–sediment interface cannot be excluded
but the scenario of Mn redox cycling across a redoxcline appears more compelling if Ce is considered
we note that the Morro da Mina queluzite has enrichment factors between 30 and 500 for Mo
compared to the average composition of the upper continental crust
Conceptual depositional model for manganiferous sediments at Morro da Mina

Across the redoxcline Mn-oxide particles underwent reductive dissolution
leading to the formation of Mn-carbonate particles
was scavenged by organic C in euxinic seawater and transferred to Mn-rich carbonaceous sediments
The reductive dissolution of Mn-oxide particles across the redoxcline also caused Ce enrichment (Ce/Ce* >1)
where bottom waters were depleted in Mn due to Mn upwelling to swallow waters
seawater Mo was directly scavenged by organic C and deposited as carbonaceous muds that captured the Mo-isotope signal of Ce-depleted seawater (δ98Mo>0
The Mn-rich carbonaceous sediments were metamorphosed at high temperature (>600 °C) to queluzite
and the carbonaceous sediments to graphitic schist
The former is a Mn-carbonate rock containing Mn silicates
Mn sulfide and graphite; the latter is poorer in Mn and marks ductile shear zones
Despite metamorphic and tectonic overprints
primary differences in Mo-isotope signals – is still preserved and can be retrieved
The preservation of environmental signals – i.e.
Mo-isotope fractionations and Ce anomalies – and their connections to such an event can thus be retrieved from medium- to high-grade metamorphic terranes

O pai do menino de 8 anos que morreu após cair em um toboágua em Caldas Novas (GO) acredita que o parque não colocou sinalização eficaz para mostrar que o brinquedo estava em manutenção
e que as entradas estavam acessíveis para as crianças
conhecia todas as instalações do diRoma Acqua Park
tinha acabado de chegar no hotel do grupo diRoma
Foi a primeira viagem em família e desde então a gente ia todo ano
Dava sempre para ver onde ele estava e ele tinha noção de todo o parque
O acidente ocorreu logo após eles almoçarem e realizarem o check-in no hotel
"Eu falei para o Davi para irmos [ao parque] no dia seguinte
Eu avisei que teríamos que ficar pouco tempo ele me disse: 'Eu estou doido para ir no parque!'
Eu desci com o carrinho com o meu filho de 1 ano e ele

O pai diz que foi apenas nesse momento que ele descobriu que Davi tinha caído do toboágua
"Acho que ele pensou que a descida do vulcão iria estar próximo de onde eu estava esperando
Ele já era acostumado a descer o 'vulcão' [toboágua]
Miranda conta que o toboágua fica logo na entrada do parque e que ele não viu nenhuma sinalização avisando que o brinquedo estava interditado
Várias pessoas chegaram perto de mim e informaram que só estava com fitas
As entradas do toboágua não estavam bloqueadas
O lugar é muito movimentado e nenhuma pessoa avisou para ele não entrar."
O brinquedo possui quatro toboáguas que saem de uma mesma plataforma que fica no interior de uma estrutura que se assemelha a um vulcão
um funcionário do parque pediu para que ele assinasse uma folha em branco
"Eles disseram que iriam fazer um relatório depois sobre o acidente
Os familiares foram até o Hospital Municipal de Caldas Novas
onde Davi não resistiu aos ferimentos e acabou morrendo
"Eles tiraram a gente do local o mais rapidamente
eu paguei pelo serviço prestado e não me deram a segurança."
Miranda espera que o parque repense as medidas adotadas em relação à prevenção de acidentes

O UOL entrou em contato com o Grupo diRoma para um posicionamento a respeito da sinalização
e foi informado que a empresa só se manifestará após a conclusão do laudo pericial
o laudo pericial deve ficar pronto nos próximos dias
O exame pericial de local de morte violenta e o exame cadavérico já foram realizados pela Polícia Técnico-Científica
A polícia devera ouvir mais quatro pessoas ainda hoje e imagens do circuito de câmeras de monitoramento do local também já foram requisitadas e serão analisadas
um representante do estabelecimento informou que
além de placas para informar a manutenção do brinquedo
uma equipe especializada realizou perícia no toboágua e revelou que o garoto bateu em dois lugares antes de chegar ao chão
ele não se afogou e teve acesso a uma área mal isolada da atração
e ele não tinha qualquer sinal de afogamento externo ou interno
ele bateu em uma ripa de madeira e depois bateu em uma estrutura metálica antes [de chegar ao chão]
afirmou em conversa com o UOL a chefe da Polícia Científica de Caldas Novas
a Polícia Civil informou que "dentro do prazo legal de 30 dias
envidará todos os esforços para aprofundar a investigação
com o objetivo de elucidar os fatos e comprovar a responsabilidade daqueles que tenham concorrido para o evento fatal."
