"Dilexit nos" (He Loved Us) will be Pope Francis' fourth encyclical
and it comes at a time of profound global challenges
and technologies that threaten to undermine human nature
Pope Francis will call for a change of perspective
urging humanity to rediscover what is most essential: the heart
"Dilexit Nos - Encyclical Letter on the Human and Divine Love of the Heart of Jesus Christ," was confirmed today by the Vatican Press Office
The Pope had previously shared his intent to publish the document at his June 5 general audience in St
during the month traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart
Pope Francis expressed his hope that the text would invite reflection on aspects of the Lord's love that could illuminate the path of ecclesial renewal and resonate meaningfully with "a world that seems to have lost its heart."
He also noted that the encyclical would incorporate reflections from previous magisterial teachings and the rich tradition of Scripture
reintroducing the Church to this spiritually profound devotion
The encyclical’s release coincides with ongoing celebrations commemorating the 350th anniversary of the first appearance of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to St
Jesus appeared to the young 26-year-old French Visitation nun
entrusting her with the mission of spreading His love
which took place at the convent of Paray-le-Monial in Burgundy
Christ showed His heart surrounded by flames and encircled by a crown of thorns—symbolizing the wounds inflicted by human sin
He requested that the Friday following the Feast of Corpus Christi be dedicated to the Sacred Heart
Margaret Mary remained steadfast in her mission to reveal Christ’s love to the world
an encyclical aimed at reviving the devotion during a time when it was in decline
Pope Pius emphasized the devotion's importance for the Church's needs and its potential as a “banner of salvation” for the modern world
in a letter commemorating the 50th anniversary of Haurietis Aquas
“This mystery of God's love for us is not only the content of devotion to the Heart of Jesus; it is also at the heart of all true Christian spirituality.”
Pope Francis has consistently demonstrated a deep devotion to the Sacred Heart
he concluded the Jubilee of Priests on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart
urging priests to orient their hearts like the Good Shepherd towards the lost and the distant
Francis recommended that bishops and priests revisit Haurietis Aquas
noting that “the heart of Christ is the center of mercy
This is the nature of mercy: it gets its hands dirty
Dilexit nos will be Pope Francis' fourth encyclical
co-written with Benedict XVI; Laudato si’ (May 24
on the environmental crisis and the need for care for creation; and Fratelli tutti (October 3
which calls for global fraternity and social friendship in a world fractured by a pandemic and conflicts
Dilexit nos will be presented at the Vatican Press Office on October 24 by Monsignor Bruno Forte

The church's inclusion in the festival is also because, despite being considered one of the most significant architectural works of the past half-century in Portugal
it is paradoxically one of the least known among the Portuguese and one of the least remembered by architects
This may have been one of the intentions of architects Nuno Teotónio Pereira
and Nuno Portas when they created a work so seamlessly integrated into Lisbon's urban landscape that it almost goes unnoticed while still embodying the true essence of the city

The United States Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB) is inviting Catholics to join together in making an act of reparation for the act of “blasphemy” scheduled to take place at Dodgers Stadium on June 16 on the day the Catholic Church celebrates the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles
is asking parishes across the country to pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 16 at Mass or during a Holy Hour with the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
An act of reparation such as the bishops recommend is offered to the Lord with the intention of repairing the spiritual damage inflicted by sin
This comes after the Los Angeles Dodgers announced they would be honoring the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” an anti-Catholic drag show that mocks the faith
with a “Community Hero Award” on the same day
“Catholic Christians traditionally recognize June as the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
which is visible in a special way in the image of his pierced heart
and we pray that our own hearts might be conformed to his
calling us to love and respect all his people.”
on June 16 — the day of the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus — a professional baseball team has shockingly chosen to honor a group whose lewdness and vulgarity in mocking Our Lord
and consecrated women cannot be overstated
This is not just offensive and painful to Christians everywhere; it is blasphemy.”
“It has been heartening to see so many faithful Catholics and others of goodwill stand up to say that what this group does is wrong
We call on Catholics to pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart on June 16
offering this prayer as an act of reparation for the blasphemies against Our Lord we see in our culture today,” the bishops concluded

Over 100 churches stand in the southern Brazilian town of Prudentopolis
many built in ornate Byzantine style by Ukrainian immigrants who arrived in such large numbers from the late 19th century that it became known as Little Ukraine
In recent days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine
the town's churches have been packed with locals wracked by feelings of despair and powerlessness
praying for friends and families back in Ukraine
first visited Ukraine in 2008 on a scholarship
during the Maidan uprising that toppled President Viktor Yanukovich
One of her professors died in those clashes
and Jadvizak said she was horrified by the recent escalation with Russia that has left Ukraine a smoldering pile of rubble
"It's so impactful to see the tanks of war and planes flying over
and hearing my friends saying they are going to battle," she said in front of a Byzantine church
and a yellow-and-blue flag draped around her shoulders
With the sound of a choir rising behind her
Jadvizak had come out to show solidarity with those in Ukraine
"We're going to pray so that everything ends well," said Jadvizak
who is of fourth generation Ukrainian descent
and counts Portuguese as her second language
Some in the town drew parallels between their own families' exit from Ukraine
and that of the millions of refugees fleeing in the wake of Russia's invasion
a shopkeeper whose parents came to Brazil after living through the "terror" of World War Two
said she feared Ukrainian culture would be erased
many from the western Galicia region that includes the city of Lviv
a historian from the Federal University of Parana who has studied the town's roots
He said Ukrainians were fleeing extreme poverty
just a few decades after Tsarist Russia outlawed serfdom
was desperate for workers to develop its farmland
and actively recruited Europeans through publicity campaigns
The first roughly 1,500 Ukrainian families that arrived worked in agriculture and sawmills
industries that remain major employers to this day
named after former Brazilian President Prudente de Morais
have retained surprisingly close ties with Ukraine
Over three-quarters of the town's 52,000 people speak some Ukrainian
"The descendants who live in Prudentopolis have a fundamental connection with Ukraine," he said
"They are very close to their relatives who stayed there
and the vast majority dream of returning or visiting the land of their origins."
He is part of a decades-old group in the town known as the "Cossack Brotherhood." The club seeks to maintain ties with Ukrainian culture through dances and historical presentations
Almost all members are Catholic and dress up in traditional clothes
keeping their hair and beards in the classic Cossack style
"We learn to love Ukraine from childhood ..
and we carry that love for our entire lives," Michalovski said
"Every bit of sad news about the war is a stab in my chest
We will only have peace again when the fire in Ukraine stops
said she was offering whatever support she could
"Today I sent a message to my friends saying that if they needed
where 70% of the population is of Ukrainian descent
a mechanic and fellow member of the "Cossack Brotherhood," echoed the views of many in Prudentopolis
he was also putting his faith in the divine
each drop of Ukrainian blood spilled is a piece of our heart that breaks," he said
but our way of helping from here right now is with prayer."
