The duel between Colo-Colo and Fortaleza on the night of Thursday (10) was halted after fans of the Chilean team invaded the pitch at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano.
Such an invasion occurred 25 minutes into the second half. It was reportedly motivated by dissatisfaction following the deaths of 19 and 13-year-old youths before the match due to a clash with local police, according to Chilean media.
Some objects, including pieces of iron, had already been thrown onto the pitch. Deyverson was one of the Fortaleza players to report such behavior. Eventually, some fans broke part of the acrylic barrier separating the stands from the pitch at the 25-minute mark.
This led the Fortaleza players to leave the field immediately, and everyone is safe.
Fortaleza informs that all athletes, directors, staff, and personnel are well and safe after the invasion by some Colo-Colo fans on the field at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano in Santiago.
#FortalezaEC Initially, Colo-Colo's own leaders, such as Vidal and Pavez, tried to calm the situation. After a few minutes, the stadium's sound system announced that the game was suspended only for the remaining fans to leave the venue.
Officially, CONMEBOL considers the match as halted. They are expected to proceed with resuming the game after 45 minutes and an additional 15 minutes for both teams to warm up.

And we can’t blame ‘em: All of the brand’s expressions are made with traditional distillation methods that skillfully showcase the essence of Blue Weber agave
But thanks to Fortaleza’s stellar rep and its refusal to further up its production
tracking down a bottle isn’t always a possibility
depending on how much the retailer is jacking up the price
we’ve compiled a list of the best alternatives to Fortaleza
and a ton of other factors that equate to a good substitute for these coveted bottles
Some brands are based in El Valle (or Tequila Valley) where Fortaleza is made
here are VinePair’s eight best alternatives to spring for
Tequila Cascahuín employs ancestral techniques in its tequila production
it cooks its agave in stone ovens and uses deep well water to make its tequila
While most of its expressions are made via the more modern and efficient roller mill extraction
Cascahuín also offers a tahona-made version of its blanco
which is generally held in higher regard than the brand’s baseline offerings
(There’s a tahona reposado in the line as well
you can’t really go wrong picking up any bottle from Tequila Cascahuín
It’s a brand with over 100 years of history under its belt
Although it’s produced at the same distillery as Tequila Cascahuín (NOM 1123) and by the hands of the same distillers
Wild Common is a relative newcomer to the agave space
having been founded in 2021 by American photographer Andy Bardon
Wild Common and Tequila Cascahuín share similar flavor profiles
All of Wild Common’s tequila expressions — a blanco
and a reposado — are produced through a combination of tahona and roller mill extraction
and rested in stainless steel to allow for mild oxidation
Wild Common isn’t a far cry from Tequila Cascahuín’s tahona expression or Fortaleza’s tequilas
All three brands also use American oak and ex-bourbon barrels
Before we make the full pivot to the highlands (a.k.a
but it sources its agave from the highlands
It also uses a low-pressure autoclave to cook its agave piñas
which may not be as traditional as using a stone or brick oven
but it’s more efficient and still preserves the flavor potential of the piña — a must for world-class tequila producers like Don Fulano and Fortaleza
Don Fulano also extracts its agave juice with a combination of screw and roller mills
The former is generally viewed as a happy medium between tahona and roller mill extraction since screw mills don’t break as many agave fibers as the roller mills do
While Don Fulano may not be as rustic as Fortaleza in its approach to tequila production
the brand is a stellar example of modern techniques being used in a way that doesn’t compromise the quality of the final product
its aged expressions make use of ex-wine casks
which impart some unexpected flavors not commonly found in reposados
As we venture to Los Altos, we find Tequila Ocho
which was co-founded by fifth-generation agave farmer and third-generation tequilero Carlos Camarena
The Camarena family has been in the tequila business since the mid-1800s
and are now behind some of the most acclaimed brands in the game including G4
Let’s just say that the Camarenas are celebrities in tequila that don’t make celebrity tequila
and quickly stole the hearts of tequila geeks everywhere
Given that a large portion of its agave is sourced from single-estate farms
the aim at Ocho is to showcase the terroir of Los Altos
and an exceptional backup buy when Fortaleza is out of reach
the value is on point — even the brand’s añejo is below the $80 mark
For anyone looking to get the purest sense of Los Altos agave
we recommend going for Tequila Ocho’s high-proof Plata Puntas bottlings
though they are undeniably harder to track down than the baseline expressions
El Tesoro is another Camarena family affair
Though it’s been owned by larger beverage corporations since 1999
the brand’s quality hasn’t been compromised
and Carlos serves as the brand’s master distiller at La Alteña Distillery
El Tesoro has a lot in common with Fortaleza: Both brands use stone ovens
and copper pot distillation to make their tequilas
both brands’ staple offerings clock in at 40 percent ABV (not including still-strength expressions) and any barrel aging takes place in ex-whiskey barrels
El Tesoro is pumping out some of the cleanest expressions of Los Altos agave on the market
making it a great brand to spring for even when Fortaleza is in stock
LALO is a bit of an outlier in this list as it only produces blanco tequila
but its production methods and commitment to honoring its agave make it a worthy substitute for Fortaleza’s blanco
The brand also cooks its piñas in stone ovens
uses deep well water in all of its processes
and distills its liquid solely in copper pots
One of the more unique aspects of LALO is the brand’s decision to ferment its agave with Champagne yeast
While this type of yeast can be used to produce certain esters and aromas
it can also remain relatively neutral in a vast range of fermentation temperatures
Unlike other brands that use wild or proprietary yeast strains to give their products a sense of place
LALO presumably uses Champagne yeast to let the agave itself do all the talking
crisp tequila that offers a whole lot of bang for the buck
a bottle will only cost between $40 and $50
Just wide of the mark. Unfortunately, what you're looking for isn't here...
CONMEBOL Confirms Death Of Two Fans Ahead Of Colo Colo vs Fortaleza MatchThe CONMEBOL Libertadores matchday came to a tragic close following incidents that occurred both outside and inside the Estadio Monumental in Santiago, during the match between Colo Colo and Fortaleza.
CONMEBOL expressed its sorrow on Thursday over the death of two fans near the Estadio Monumental de Santiago, shortly before the game began.
"CONMEBOL deeply regrets the passing of two fans near the Estadio Monumental before the start of the match between Colo Colo and Fortaleza Esporte Clube. We extend our most sincere condolences to their families and loved ones. We stand with them during this difficult time," read the statement released by the South American football governing body on its X account.
Both fans died on Thursday following a confusing incident involving the militarized police force, Carabineros de Chile, who are now under investigation for their possible involvement in the incident.
A Fired-Up Bucaramanga Hosts a Desperate Fortaleza in the Copa LibertadoresBuoyed by their historic away win over Racing Club, Atlético Bucaramanga will aim to keep making history this Wednesday as they host a struggling Fortaleza in Matchday 3 of Group E in the Copa Libertadores.
The Colombian side, led by Leonel Álvarez, is riding a wave of momentum. Not only do they top their group in the continental tournament, but they also lead the final phase of the domestic league, raising the hopes of their loyal fans. The team will play at the Estadio Américo Montanini with the goal of consolidating their status as the competition's breakout team.
Meanwhile, Fortaleza comes into the clash under immense pressure to earn points after losing their first two matches. Coached by Argentine Juan Pablo Vojvoda, the Brazilian side sits at the bottom of the group and desperately needs a win to avoid an early exit.
For “El Leopardo,” a victory would be a massive step toward reaching the round of 16. With Luciano Pons leading the attack and key contributions from Aldair Quintana in goal and Kevin Londoño in midfield, Álvarez’s team looks confident and solid.
However, they will miss the presence of Fabián Sambueza, who is sidelined due to a knee injury. Despite the setback, the squad has shown depth and resilience to maintain a high level of play.
Still unbeaten, Bucaramanga has earned four points in two matches, sitting one ahead of Racing. Colo Colo trails with one point, while Fortaleza is yet to register a single point.
The Brazilian side, with 107 years of history, arrived in Colombia on Monday with an offensive mindset. Stars like David Luiz, Pol Fernández, Deyverson, Yago Pikachu, and Dylan Borrero will try to turn things around and pull the team out of last place.
The match will be officiated by Peruvian referee Kevin Ortega, alongside assistants Jesús Sánchez and Enrique Pinto, with Diego Haro overseeing VAR. Kick-off is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. local time in a clash that could prove decisive for Group E.
According to the Chilean Prosecutor’s Office, a Carabinero (police officer) has been charged in connection with the tragedy, as his responsibility is being investigated in the collapse of a security fence that caused the fatal stampede. One of the victims died at the scene, while the other passed away after being taken to a nearby clinic. Minister of Public Security, Luis Cordero, confirmed that the officer involved has been removed from duty until the facts are clarified.
“There was a stampede that caused the fence to collapse. At this moment, it is being investigated whether a police vehicle played a role in the deaths,” explained prosecutor Francisco Morales. Although the officer has been formally charged, he has not been arrested due to a lack of conclusive evidence. Witnesses at the scene claim that police repression was excessive, and some fans allege that a water cannon truck may have run over the victims.
Authorities have deployed all available resources to clarify the facts. Surveillance footage and witness testimonies are being reviewed to determine whether there were security failures or excessive use of police force. As an immediate measure, the Chilean government accepted the resignation of Pamela Venegas, head of the Estadio Seguro security program.
Conmebol expressed its condolences through an official statement lamenting the tragedy. Despite the incident, the Colo-Colo vs Fortaleza match started as scheduled. However, as news of the deaths spread, Cacique fans stormed the pitch in protest, leading to the suspension of the match.
"The Conmebol Competitions and Operations Department has announced that, due to the lack of security guarantees from the host club and the authorities, the match is canceled," stated the governing body of South American football.
The repercussions of this tragic event are yet to unfold, but it is expected to bring sanctions and changes to security protocols in both Chilean and continental football.

The A321 XLR also provides a high level of comfort with 182 seats in Business and Economy classes.
The new routes to Recife and Fortaleza are part of Iberia’s strategy to offer more direct travel options to the Brazilian northeast. Marcelo Freixo, president of Embratur, highlighted the potential for growth in the region, noting that these new routes will allow for greater access to Brazil’s vibrant culture, beautiful beaches, and unique culinary experiences.
Priscila Krause, acting governor of Pernambuco, expressed excitement about the new connection between Madrid and Recife, emphasizing its potential to boost tourism and strengthen ties between Europe and Brazil.
In addition to these new destinations, Iberia already serves São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, offering 14 and five weekly frequencies, respectively. With the addition of Recife and Fortaleza, the airline will be flying to four Brazilian cities, offering nearly 284,000 seats between Spain and Brazil during the 2025-2026 winter season.
Iberia’s commitment to expanding its Brazilian network is evident in its continued focus on offering convenient connections to major cities, further enhancing its presence in the Latin American market.

Sister of Fatal Victim Assures She Had a Ticket for The Colo Colo vs Fortaleza MatchSouth American football experienced a night of chaos and tragedy at the Monumental Stadium in Santiago. What was supposed to be a Copa Libertadores matchday ended in the deaths of two fans and the suspension of the game between Colo Colo and Fortaleza due to incidents inside and outside the stadium.
One of the deceased was an 18-year-old woman who was run over by a police vehicle near the stadium. Her sister, Bárbara Pérez, denied reports that she was trying to enter without a ticket.
“She had her ticket, her ID, everything in order. She wasn’t trying to sneak in,” she stated to local media, calling for justice for her sister and the 13-year-old boy who also lost his life amid the police operation.
According to her testimony, the young woman was with two friends when a police vehicle known as a "zorrillo," which deploys tear gas, ran over her. “Nicolás, her friend, tried to save her, but the vehicle hit her anyway,” Bárbara said, visibly shaken.
At the clinic, she was informed that her sister had arrived with no vital signs. “She was crushed, but I won’t give more details because it’s too painful,” she said, also criticizing the fact that the driver of the vehicle did not come forward or provide an explanation of what happened.
Meanwhile, prosecutor Francisco Morales stated that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances of the incident, including the possible involvement of the police vehicle in the tragedy. “A stampede caused a fence to collapse, and we are determining whether a police vehicle played a role in the fatality,” he explained.
The match between Colo Colo and Fortaleza, part of the second round of Group E in the Copa Libertadores, started with a packed stadium but had to be halted in the 72nd minute after Colo Colo fans stormed the pitch in protest over the deaths.
Fortaleza players immediately left the field, followed minutes later by the Chilean team. Although officials considered resuming the match without spectators, Santiago’s Presidential Delegation rejected the option for security reasons.
In the end, Conmebol decided to cancel the match, while clashes between fans and police continued outside the stadium. In an official statement, the organization expressed condolences to the victims' families.
From a sporting perspective, the draw left Colo Colo in third place in Group E with two points, while Fortaleza remained last with one. Atlético Bucaramanga leads the group with four points after defeating Racing, which holds second place with three.
What should have been a night of football ended in sorrow and tension in Santiago. Investigations are now underway to clarify responsibilities and determine whether police intervention was negligent in the deaths of the two young fans.

and the 2024 Cultural Bridge Fellowship enabled her to make this dream a reality
Though she’d read about aspects of the culture and spent months practicing Portuguese
her time there "revealed a country that is far more intricate and nuanced than any book could capture." And it enabled her to gain a powerful firsthand understanding of how socio-cultural factors influence health outcomes
"This cultural exchange experience has been incredibly enlightening," she wrote in her internship blog
"I deeply believe in providing an equitable environment where everyone has the opportunity to pursue better health… this summer I had the chance to contribute to the development of a health system that [does this] by empowering mothers and children."
spent her summer working on data collection with a maternal and child health tracking team at the Federal University of Ceara (UFC) in Fortaleza
The team collected data from programs around the city
including non-traditional initiatives focused on "local knowledge and community strength," like a community therapy project to combat gun violence and support healing for those impacted
and government programs to economically empower women by teaching cooking and traditional crafts like lacemaking
They also visited health units where Flora spoke with patients
and nurses about their experiences seeking and providing healthcare services
One of their key site visits was to the Instituto da Primeira Infância (IPREDE)
a non-governmental organization serving children with malnutrition and cognitive impairments and their parents
Flora noted the focus on empowerment of the whole family—not only do children receive classes tailored to their conditions
their caregivers meet with psychologists and take courses to empower them through skills like sewing and weaving
"I gained valuable insights into how the Brazilian health system
mobilizes resources to maximize health outcomes," she wrote
Flora also learned more about social determinants of health in Fortaleza
She shared one example of a conversation she had with a pediatrician where she mentioned seeing many more mothers than fathers at health clinics
"[They explained] many fathers were either incarcerated or had fallen victim to the cycle of drug addiction," she recalled
"So not only were the children traumatized and suffering from health conditions
struggling to raise their children while desperately needing assistance and support
This revelation brought into sharp focus the link between poverty
and the challenges of family development and maternal and child health in this region."
"hope is never absent," noting the dedication of many individual health workers she met
as well as the government and other organizations funding and expanding programs.
Flora treated her summer as a true cultural exchange
reflecting on the similarities and differences she saw between Brazil and her native China
She was even able to visit the UFC’s Confucius Institute
a program focused on disseminating Chinese culture in Brazil
One particular conversation with a data scientist at a local health surveillance center stuck with her
"illuminating the striking contrasts and surprising similarities between Brazilian and Chinese approaches to health management and data science."
"Both countries value data and evidence-driven policies," she explained
the focus is often on real-time data collection and rapid response… while in China
and emphasis is put on accurate calculations and long-term planning from data insights."
with centralized decision-making and top-down execution.
"the emphasis on family and community takes precedence
in a decentralized policy-making process where local bodies have autonomy to adapt strategies that best suit their community's specific needs," she wrote
but also sometimes leads to variability in effectiveness across regions."
one that "not only broadened my understanding of how different cultures tackle similar problems
but deepened my appreciation for the nuanced ways in which cultural contexts shape systemic approaches."
She returned from Brazil with this broader
deeper knowledge in her field of public health—and an even stronger appreciation for the opportunity provided by a cultural bridge
I carry with me these insights," she wrote in her final post
"reminded of the power of cross-cultural learning in enriching our professional practices and personal perspectives."

Key players such as Juan Martín Lucero, Marinho, and Titi are expected to play pivotal roles, while the team will aim to capitalize on their home advantage at the Estadio Castelão.
