During my two times to Latin America review trip, I spent a night(ish) at the 80-room TRYP by Wyndham Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport (GRU)
This is the only airside transit hotel at the airport
so there’s a huge convenience factor to that
since you can’t beat the convenience of an airside transit hotel
this is definitely one of the more basic airside transit hotels I’ve stayed at
I’d probably prefer to stay at a hotel outside the terminal
My one night stay at TRYP by Wyndham Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport cost ~$150
I wouldn’t expect an airside transit hotel to get much cheaper than that
Of course I wasn’t fully maximizing it
While the hotel has day rates for those wishing to stay just several hours
TRYP by Wyndham is located in Terminal 3 at Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport
which is the primary international terminal at the airport
I was arriving at Terminal 2 (where GOL operates out of)
and the two terminals are connected airside
Let me emphasize that this hotel is located airside
so you can only stay here if you have a departing international boarding pass for Terminal 2 or Terminal 3
and then followed the signage in the direction of Terminal 3
which required walking down a rather long corridor
the entrance to the hotel was located on the left
the hotel is one level down from the main part of the terminal (on level one)
and can be accessed via the same elevator that takes you to Terminal 2
The hotel is just minutes from virtually any departure gate in Terminal 3
TRYP by Wyndham Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport has a very basic lobby
with a couple of couches and a couple of chairs
To enter the area of the hotel with guest rooms
you first walk through the restaurant and bar area (more on that in a bit)
and then there’s a door that can be opened with a key
I wasn’t sure what to expect from TRYP by Wyndham Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport in terms of room quality or decor
I can’t say that the hallway connecting rooms felt terribly luxurious
I almost thought I was in a school or hospital
The door had a sticker on it to indicate that it was sealed since being cleaned
I’d describe the room decor as being pretty basic
almost feeling a bit like a nice college dorm
There was a coffee machine next to the bed
plus a couple of bottles of complimentary water
The compact bathroom was back toward the entrance
The rooms have complimentary Wi-Fi, which I found to be pretty fast. Interestingly the rooms don’t have safes, though — that doesn’t bother me, but I know it matters more to others
There is apparently a safe box at reception
given that the hotel is located inside a terminal
I didn’t love the decor or firmness of the mattress
TRYP by Wyndham Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport has a restaurant and bar area
The bar area has a few tables as well as some high-top seating
It has a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks
but rather everything is available from a buffet
The restaurant maybe has a couple of dozen tables
I decided to visit during dinner, which would ordinarily cost BRL 130 (~22 USD), including food and non-alcoholic drinks. However, I didn’t have to pay for that — this is actually a Priority Pass restaurant, so since I had an eligible Priority Pass membership
I could use that membership during my visit
The buffet had a reasonably good selection
and I’ll let the pictures speak mostly for themselves
TRYP by Wyndham Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport doesn’t have much in the way of amenities
The only other thing worth mentioning is that there’s a small outdoor courtyard
In theory this would be a nice place to just sit and enjoy the fresh air
but it seems to almost exclusively be used as a smoking lounge
I’m not an expert on Wyndham’s various brands, and prior to this visit, I wasn’t really familiar with the TRYP by Wyndham brand. Based on my research
the brand has several dozen hotels around the world
lifestyle boutique brand,” that “embodies the local flavor
offering guests a personal retreat at the heart of an amazing cosmopolitan experience.”
but that’s not really how I’d describe this property
hotel branding is such a disaster across the industry nowadays
as the major hotel groups just want to grow their portfolio at any cost
I just found this interesting because usually I’m very familiar with the brands I stay at
my assumption was that TRYP by Wyndham was a brand that offered super basic accommodations without much flair
So you can imagine my confusion after actually researching the brand more closely
TRYP by Wyndham is the best option if you’re looking to conveniently get some rest while airside at Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport
While this wasn’t the most luxurious transit hotel I’ve stayed at
Don’t expect much from the room design or amenities
What do you make of TRYP by Wyndham Guarulhos Airport

It also compares favorably with the two hotels closest to GRU (outside security)
the Marriott and the Pullman - which both have seen better days
it was split into two a couple of years ago
One part went to Melia and the other to Wyndham
Only recently the Melia part dropped the..
Only recently the Melia part dropped the Tryp brand completely
which still confuses me because they keep using the same name ..
I've stayed at two Tryp properties over the years - one in NYC and one in Paris (which is now a Mélia property) and both experiences were great
and I was surprised at the size of the room (it was relatively large by NYC standards) and how nice it was
considering it was under $200 for the night and included breakfast
The bed was far more comfortable than what it seems like @Lucky had in GRU
I’ve actually stayed at a tryp by wyndham before for cheaper price
I just thought it’s a cheaper Fairfield / Hyatt Place and does the trick when needed
I've stayed at the TRYP in Newark which is "unique and urban" as it's an older building in the heart of downtown
Did you take a look at any of the power outlets
Brazil uses a mix of outlet types and it can vary from 127 to 240v
it was the only choice for Ben to choose this airside transit hotel as he had an early morning flight
I am so happy to see a hotel review of a non-Hyatt or non-Marriott hotel including those one or two thousand dollar a night hotels
It is a rarity to see a review from a Wyndham hotel by Ben
It would be nice to see Ben review more of these hotels and besides Wyndham it would be even more amazing if he reviewed some hotels by Choice or Best Western

I found myself on a long layover at São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) on a cheap LATAM economy ticket that did not include lounge access
After roaming around the terminal for a while
I quickly realized that if I wanted to visit a “sala VIP,” I would need to pay
despite my best efforts to save money by booking that cheap plane ticket
I ended up paying for luggage (a silly mistake on my part) and lounge access
The moral of the story — just fly in business class
The good news is that the LATAM VIP Lounge was quite good and I really enjoyed my visit
is a solid lounge owned and operated by LATAM Airlines at GRU
This lounge is often referred to as one of the best lounges in São Paulo
With a modern design and open layout overlooking the international terminal
the space calls attention as you walk by and is just as impressive when you walk in
The LATAM VIP Lounge is located in Terminal 3 at GRU
after you pass through security and immigration
you can take the escalator up to the mezzanine level
The entrance to the LATAM VIP Lounge is immediately on your left when you reach the top of the escalator and stairs
The LATAM VIP Lounge is open 24 hours per day
was not participating in the program during the time of my visit in October 2022
I headed over to the LATAM VIP Lounge to see my options
Flying in economy from GRU to JFK on LATAM (with no elite status)
The LATAM VIP Lounge is complimentary for Black Signature LATAM Pass cardholders, LATAM passengers flying Premium Business or Premium Economy class, Delta passengers flying Delta One business class
there are paid options to get in; $120 for a full visit or $60 within 3 hours of your flight
Since I had just under 4 hours until my flight
I opted to walk around the airport a bit and then went back to pay $60
I have a Citi Prestige® Card (no longer open to applicants) that includes Priority Pass with “non-lounge airport experiences” such as restaurants

the Citi Prestige card is no longer available for new applicants
Citi ThankYou Rewards
If you have a Priority Pass membership that includes restaurants, you can access 4 restaurants that accept Priority Pass at GRU
Not all of these options were participating in Priority Pass when I visited GRU in October 2022
I entered the LATAM VIP Lounge with tempered expectations because Brazil isn’t necessarily known for its fancy lounges
The open-air ceiling that overlooks the terminal makes the lounge feel bigger than it is — and it is large at almost 20,000 square feet
I walked around the lounge to get my bearings and figure out where I wanted to sit
No matter what you were planning on doing at the lounge
There was plenty of seating throughout the lounge
starting with sofa and bar stools at the bar near the entrance
there were plenty of seats and sofas in what felt more like a living room area
grab a chair overlooking the terminal below
as that provided me with a nice mix of tables for work/eating and access to outlets
Dining room area at the LATAM VIP Lounge GRU.Advertisement
The food and beverage offerings were good — nothing outstanding as you might find in a United Polaris Lounge or a Singapore First Class Lounge — but they were above-average compared to other airport lounges I have visited in Brazil
and there was plenty of staff who were constantly cleaning and replenishing anything that needed attention
there were some chicken Caesar salads available
There were a few different options for premade sandwiches
I also found fruits and pastries off to the side
If you were looking for something more filling
The chicken and beef options were smothered in thick sauces
a Brazilian airport lounge isn’t complete without some stale cheese bread (pão de queijo)
but there were some mini cheesecakes and dulce de leche cups
I was quite impressed with the drink selection at the LATAM VIP Lounge
I found a wide variety of coffee and water
There was also a fresh-squeezed orange juice machine
A full bar featured self-serve Heineken on tap
The lounge had a pretty solid wine selection
including Chandon sparkling wine — which is not inexpensive in Brazil
There were also plenty of refrigerators stocked with sodas
one of the best perks is using a clean bathroom instead of the crowded ones in the main terminal
And all bathroom stalls had their own sink
which is nice if you want to freshen up before a flight
While some might consider this a kid’s room
It was pretty full of adults at one point playing video games
this is not a bad place to hang out with friends
One of the most critical parts of a lounge nowadays is the wireless internet
I consistently had a strong signal on my phone and computer with speeds over 30 Mbps
which is more than enough for what most people need in a lounge
I only had positive interactions with the staff
Most of the food and beverage was self-service
and the staff constantly refilled and cleaned the entire area
I also appreciated the desk agent who told me that if I waited 30 more minutes before paying to get in that I would save 50%
Easily worth $60 to stroll around the terminal for a bit
I had a great visit to the LATAM VIP Lounge
Although I would have preferred not to pay and use my Priority Pass next door
the LATAM option was easily worth $60 for my 3-hour visit
The LATAM VIP Lounge is complimentary for Black Signature LATAM Pass cardholders
LATAM passengers flying Premium Business or Premium Economy class
Delta passengers flying Delta One business class
there are paid options to get in; $120 for a full visit
there are showers available inside the lounge
all food and beverage options are complimentary inside the lounge

and the footage captures multiple lightning strikes
One passenger, waiting to board, tweeted British Airways: “I’m at GRU ready to head home, but my flight has been delayed for a check. What kind of inspections will the plane undergo?”
After the delay, the passenger updated followers: “Just landed safely in London. Flew out on a 787, back on an A350—what incredible planes!”

Text description provided by the architects. As a public use building gathering activities of culture, sports, teaching, health, recreation and leisure, SESC Guarulhos was conceived as a great democratic and inviting space that seeks to encourage and stimulate encounters, coexistence and interaction among people.
Located in an urbanized area, near Guarulhos International Airport and Zezinho Magalhães Housing Complex, its surrounding landscape presents a heterogeneous design, at times fragmented and discontinuous, characteristic of urban environments in the process of growth and transformation.
© Pedro Mascaro / SESC-SPIn this context, the project seeks to emphasize SESC’s condition as a social communicator and cultural polarizer through an architecture oriented not only to the specific solutions of its activities and functions, but also to the construction of a more continuous, cohesive and unitary urban scenario.
© Nelson Kon / SESC-SPAccess to the building is generous and non-intimidating. Designed as an extension of the urban courses, it kindly seeks to invite visitors to know and use the unit.
© Nelson Kon / SESC-SPIts program is distributed into three levels:Ground – The Coexistence Plaza opens up its surroundings to Customer Service, Exhibition Rooms, Dental Clinic, as well as Children's and Youth Recreation Ambiances. On this level, the indoor Sports Gymnasium and its supporting toilets and locker rooms complete the public fruition areas.
© Nelson Kon / SESC-SPSuperior Ground – The Theater, with its foyer facing the void of the Coexistence Plaza, conforms to an independent solid body – its dimensions of audience, stage, wings and backstage adapt to the various use demands required by SESC.
© Nelson Kon / SESC-SPOn this level, favoured by the natural topography of the land, there are the Aquatic Complex (covered and uncovered) and the outdoor Sports Courts. The Food Court facing both the Coexistence Plaza, and the pools with solarium areas, offers users the delight of varied visual perspectives. Also distributed on this level, there are the Administration, Library, Environmental Station and external garden spaces.

the Office of the Superintendent General launched an investigation to examine two alleged antitrust violations
The first practice consists of the alleged refusal by Raízen to yield space in the aviation kerosene (QAV) primary distribution basis in the surroundings of refinery Refinaria de Paulínia (Replan)
The second practice consists of the alleged imposition of entry barriers and access difficulties to vital infrastructure in the airport by the concessionaire and the three distributors
The case was submitted to CADE’s Tribunal for examination and adjudication after the Office of the Superintendent General issued an opinion for dismissal in the first conduct a and conviction in the second
After Commissioner Luiz Hoffman cast his vote as the rapporteur of the case
Commissioner Luis Braido—who voted in disagreement with the fine calculation of the first violation and for a conviction in the second violation—issued a request to access the records

BR and Raízen regarding the second violation
and the Concessionária do Aeroporto Internacional de Guarulhos created barriers for the entry of Gran Petro in the pool that operates the basis for aviation fuel distribution in the airport
