Metrics details The conservation of seed quality throughout storage depends on established conditions which are subject to errors and require technical and financial resources machine learning techniques can help optimize processes and obtain more accurate results for decision-making regarding the processing and conservation of stored seeds the aim was to assess and predict the physical properties (moisture content and physicochemical quality (crude protein and acidity index) of Jatobá-do-Cerrado seeds under different processing conditions with pulp and storage conditions at 10 and 23 °C over six months Data were analyzed on Weka software (Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis) version 3.9.5 testing the following models: Pearson correlation Processing cerrado jatobá seeds by fermentation and storage at 10 °C minimized physical changes and preserved the physicochemical quality of the seeds in polyethylene plastic and packaging variables for Artificial Neural Networks and M5P algorithms outperformed linear regression Artificial Neural Network and Random Forest models were the best predicting the effects of treatments on changes in physical properties and physicochemical quality of jatobá seed Although the seeds in these databases are maintained for a period of one year this does not prevent the seed deterioration as seed metabolism is completely halted only at temperatures below − 130°C6 we were able to determine the appropriate conditions for seed conversion and the best models that can be applied to predict quality the objective of this study was to evaluate and predict the physical and qualitative properties of Jatobá-do-Cerrado seeds processed by different methods and stored under different temperature and packaging conditions over a period of six months Experimental representation of the plant (A) A portion of the seeds (100 seeds) underwent processing to remove the pulp Two different processing methods were employed: manual scarification and fermentation Manual scarification involved the use of a cutting blade for manual pulp removal whereas fermentation processing entailed submerging the dried seeds in water for 24 h to facilitate pulp removal Seeds with and without pulp were stored at 10 and 23 °C in polyethylene plastic bags and acidity index of the seeds was conducted at zero time To calculate the projected área of the seed, Eq. (2) was used Circularity was determined according to quation (4)13 Ap: diameter of the largest circle inscribed in the object projection Ac: diameter of the smallest circle circumscribed in the object projection Unit specific mass was determined from porosity and the apparent density of the seeds, according to the following relation, Eq. (6)13 The volume of each seed was obtained using Eq. (7) The procedure involved placing 5 g of sample in a 250 mL beaker and allowing it to stand for approximately 30 min with agitation every 5 min The supernatant was then filtered through filter paper (0.5 mm) into an Erlenmeyer flask and an additional 100 mL of ethanol was added The solution was left to stand for 15 min with agitation every 5 min and four to five drops of phenolphthalein indicator solution (1%) were added The solution was titrated with 0.1 N NaOH until a pink color was observed Equation 8 was used to calculate the acidity index in mg NaOH g−1 V: titration volume of 0.1 N NaOH spent (mL) F: correction factor for 0.1 N H2SO4 solution 6,25: Transformation of nitrogen into protein factor considering 16% nitrogen ash determination was obtained by the difference between the mass of the empty crucible and the mass of the crucible and calcite residue A normality test was performed on the dependent variables An analysis of variance (using Tukey’s test for post-hoc tests) was carried out for the dependent variables: moisture content (MC) depending on the processing and storage conditions to compare which were the best conditions for seed conservation the Pearson correlation network was constructed among the predicted variables MC to verify the correlations between the predicted variables and understand the effects of seed processing and storage conditions These analyses were conducted using the Rbio software (Biometric and Statistical Analysis) version 2.0 following the procedures recommended by Bhering et al Seed quality was predicted (dependent variables) depending on processing and storage conditions using the Weka software (Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis) version 3.9.5 employing machine learning models compared to the traditional linear multiple regression model to define which could achieve a better fit: Artificial Neural Network (ANNs) Weka (Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis) aims to aggregate algorithms from different approaches in artificial intelligence dedicated to the study of machine learning This sub-area intends to develop algorithms that allow a computer to “learn” either inductively or deductively Weka (Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis) performs computational and statistical analysis of the data provided inductively trying to generate hypotheses for solutions from the patterns found and Prediction of Jatobá-do-Cerrado seeds quality using Machine Learning models All analyses were applied using stratified random cross-validation with 10 folds and 10 repetitions (80% training) and (20% validation) The following input parameters were considered in the models: time (zero and kraft paper bag) with three repetitions for each treatment The Pearson correlation coefficient (r) is the most common way of measuring a linear correlation It is a number between − 1 and 1 that measures the strength and direction of the relationship between two variables the other variable changes in the same direction The mean absolute error (MAE) is a measure of errors between paired observations expressing the same phenomenon and the R software (statistical computing) the ggplot2 and gridExtra packages were utilized for visualization and analysis Evaluation of physical properties: (A) length and (D) volume of processed and stored jatobá-do-cerrado seeds indigenous umbrella organization the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) and GT Infra to raise awareness about the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.  the native tree arrived at the embassy entrance APIB leader Sonia Guajajara read a letter pleading for Norway to save the amazonian tree and therefore its forest – Norway is the first country in the world to commit to no longer using any products that contribute to deforestation The Jatobá was accepted and planted on embassy grounds since he lives disconnected from the natural world and sees himself as superior to trees and nature has taught us to live in a collective manner This plea is a cry for the life of all living beings threatened by a corrupted and outdated vision of interaction between humans and nature” The action also called attention to the letter Five Emergency Measures to Fight the Deforestation Crisis in The Amazon Proposed by more than 60 civil society organizations and networks the document urges for a moratorium of at least five years on any forest clearing in the region “This uncommon refugee request reveals the severity of the situation for millions of trees and other forms of life in Brazil a country where the ones supposed to protect the environment are often tied to its destruction A good starting point will be the measures proposed in our letter and for the rainforest to sustain its role in the climate balance” The full letter (In Portuguese and English) and other information about the protest are available on the website Refugee Tree.  Featured photo: APIB leader Fazenda Boa Vista Jatobá House takes shape in a box-like architectural form to move beyond the bigger box of urban life and city constraints While addressing the social urge to live connected to nature the house brings forth an architectural language where the exterior stands out on the site but the interior blends with the context the single block evolved volumetrically birthing smaller volumes Each of them functions like a separate individual unit with its own functional aspects and spaces The dining and living room are separated by a large multifunctional counter with its surface coated in flamed granite The rammed-earth walls are made with sand and earth from the site itself therefore indulging the context to be a part of the process “This millennial technique creates a unique identity for there is nothing like it anywhere in the world both in aesthetics - the colouring and spacing of the layers - and in size,” state the architects in an official release On their choice of basalt shards as the flooring material - the predominant stone in the Moon's soil- the Brazilian architects share “Walking through the corridors of Jatobá House is like floating on lunar soil: the feeling of calmness is very similar." The architecture also initiates a conversation between intriguing materiality and landscape The shallow waterbodies at different nodes of the building provide separate blocks with a familiar identity The courtyard in the pockets helps the spaces in transitioning between private and semi-private spaces While placing spill-out spaces throughout the design the architecture and landscape of Jatobá House remain in conversation with each other rather and exist as a whole than parts of each For the house that rests on a land far from the city, the architects have attempted to make the architecture reciprocative of the site and its natural surrounding. Though the aesthetics of Jatobá House seem to draw inspiration from the widely seen architectural styles of contemporary residences in the outskirts of the United States the attention that responds to the natural vegetation terrain and surroundings makes the house a sanctum in nature while the architecture of similar patterns rises to be drawn as an archetype for new-age residences at what point will it seize to be an architectural language and blur into a repetition of a popular style curator and writer specialising in contemporary design With a background in architecture and an MA in History of Design and Curatorial Studies from Parsons School of Design she has developed a comprehensive understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of curating from writing about architecture and design in India to engaging with leading museums in the U.S including Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art Sunena’s expertise lies in identifying emerging design voices and engaging with complex narratives of memory From vernacular knowledge to modern sustainability Middle Eastern pavilions serve as living archives of architectural thought offering fresh frameworks for global adoption STIR engages with the curators of the Togo Oman and Qatar pavilions—debuting at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025—on representation the book presents a fictional story depicting algorithms exercising control over humans and how this affects the built environment Tipnis shares how the toolbox democratises the practice of restoration via DIY resources to repair tangible urban heritage made of common building materials Exclusive preview for subscribers. Today's Le Devoir review comes on the heels of a nod from enRoute as part of that magazine's annual Canada's Best New Restaurants feature (Other Montreal-area restaurants on the long-list include Pizzeria GEMA Of the downtown restaurant, a Kelly Ripa favourite Jean-Philippe Tastet writes: "De temps en temps il faut sortir dans des endroits chics." And Tastet considers the laundry list of supper club-like hallmarks principals Marco Benatar (Flyjin) have taken pains to affix: dapper valet; extravagant décor; beautiful hostesses ("toutes plus jolies les unes que les autres"); thumping soundtrack; killer terrasse Jatoba has a bona fide chef in the kitchen in the person of Olivier Vigneault on display at the outset of the food commentary; the critic writes that if you're like him you'll spend a lot of time on Google at Jatoba Management seems to assume that everyone knows what 'nanami togarashi' is (spoiler: it's a common Japanese spice mixture) Vigneault's eggplant and shiitake gyozas convince Tastet that "quelqu’un travaille très bien en cuisine." Two styles of tofu A beef tataki is so-so but grilled organic chicken with sesame A dish of kampachi (a game fish in the same family as yellowtail and amberjack) has a lot of elements on the plate; too many perhaps "mais beaucoup de plaisir à déguster." Fat scallops suffer from superfluous accompaniments as well though Tastet is grateful for the piggish extra bites of foie the critic's final verdict is worth a translation: "The hubbub that reigns inside confirms that this house is a place of revelry Don't worry, we can fix it ... click here to go to our home page. As far as endorsements go, not too shabby. Well, the restaurant from Marco Benatar (Flyjin), Antonio Park (Park, Lavenderia), Alexandre Besnar, Patrick Hétu (A5 Management), and Nicolas Urli (Hà, Flyjin) just got another boost thanks to a four star review in Le Journal de Montréal The critic is duly impressed with the magnificent décor and the successful marriage of Japanese and French culinary techniques who first won plaudits at Yuzu in Quebec City executes Antonio Park's curated menu well and the quality of the fish and seafood is superb The kitchen's few missteps are quickly forgiven thanks to standouts like oyster mushrooms with miso gratin ("étonnant et savoureux") shrimp gyozas ("petits nuages de douces saveurs") The verdict is very good for the relatively new downtown restaurant: four stars on five Get important news about your town as it happens Get the top stories from across our network Are you sure you want to unsubscribe from daily updates An Elizabeth woman was identified as the person responsible for swiping packages from porches in Rahway Authorities have identified the woman stealing packages off porches in Rahway Police are urging residents who see Melanie Jatoba walking or driving around town to contact Rahway police She has been targeting homes during the day She has been charged for the thefts and has been issued complaint summons with pending court dates Anyone with information can contact Rahway police at (732) 827-2200 or make an online report. Skeptical about the lavish reboot of the former Phillips Lounge? No need, hints the critic of the Gazette. Jatoba, where chef Olivier Vigneault (formerly of Quebec City's Yuzu) executes an Antonio Park-curated menu, is "as good as it looks," writes Lesley Chesterman plate presentations wowed before we even lifted a chopstick The first dish to hit the table was the beef tataki the meat was lightly seared on the outside and raw on the inside resulting in a series of melting mouthfuls." Alexandre Besnard and Patrick Hétu (A5 Management) falters in places — tuna tataki lacks pizzazz shishito peppers are "good if a little dull" and shrimp dumplings "could have been more soigné." Montreal the chef is taking the Golden Square Mile hotel to the next level Following a stunning multi-million-dollar transformation has collaborated with stellar chef Antonio Park to open YAMA Café Bazin (sister to the popular Westmount patisserie) and Banquets by Park.  Nestled in the heart of Montreal’s Golden Square Mile Vogue Hôtel Montréal is definitely in vogue white oak flooring and an oblong ivory Turkish travertine bar that leads to the hotel’s centrepiece: YAMA Time Out Montréal spoke to Chef Antonio Park about the symbolism behind his new downtown restaurant his menu favourites and how he’s helping support Ukrainian refugees Yama is an international restaurant where all the cultures marry into one Yama is “the mountain” in Japanese We’re on De la Montagne Street—which is the mountain street—so it kind of made total sense The design of the restaurant is very minimalistic and we wanted to continue on that flow—from the name being simple to the logo being simple to the restaurant We have a banquet menu but we also have our restaurant menu that can be curated into banquets with a room that can fill year-round up to 450-ish people and a little rooftop patio for outdoor events.  the tiradito and the bone-in rib eye for two We have a lot of choices from wagyu to seafood platters to sashimi to gyozas that are done by my Ukrainian team in the back 50% of our kitchen staff are Ukrainian refugees so that’s another part of it—to be able to support We’re teaching them how to do international food it’s the same thing: when you’re doing dumplings but I do buy for my wife and my mom… I have a food hall called Le Cathcart downtown and I also have another restaurant called Jatoba I have been very tied up with the work that I have There are a lot of individuals in the kitchen that need training that’s hands on and that’s what’s important as a leader—to show them that you care and that’s how they pick up that stuff It’s been 32 years that I’ve been cooking in the kitchen and a lot of people say: “Take a break!” But I can’t take a break so I might as well be part of the snowball I was in Toronto at AP and Drake was there It’s 148 rooms and you can actually order sushi for room service—I think it’s one of the first in Canada If you want to have bone-in rib eye for two And the restaurant itself is full of joy and surprises.  Thanks for subscribing! The father and stepmother of a five-year-old girl have been found guilty by a Brazilian court of throwing her to her death from a sixth-floor window. The death of Isabella Nardoni in 2008 shocked Brazil and the case has been the focus of intense media coverage was sentenced to 31 years in prison by the Sao Paulo court Isabella was found in the communal garden below the apartment where Nardoni his second wife and their two children lived in March 2008 claimed that his daughter had been killed by an intruder while he was helping his wife bring the other children from their car parked in a garage in the building's basement But prosecutors argued that his wife had attacked Isabella in the car and then strangled her in the apartment had then thrown her out of the window to make it appear a third person was responsible for the attack She died a few minutes after she was discovered on the ground Investigators found traces of Isabella's blood in the couple's car and in the apartment What are these? Netflix’s latest true crime entry examining what remains to be Brazil’s most infamous infanticide case We’ve broken down the true story behind the documentary including what happened to Isabella and where Anna Carolina Jatobá and Alexandre Nardoni are now The opening scene of Netflix’s A Life Too Short: The Isabella Nardoni Case features a chilling 911 call a panicked man describing how a “burglar” had broken into their São Paulo apartment building and thrown a little girl off the sixth floor balcony one that reminds viewers of the tragedy at the center of this case the death of Isabella Nardoni became one of the most infamous in Brazil while the investigation brought the issue of criminal justice and media sensationalism into question As well as featuring insights from journalists A Life Too Short: The Isabella Nardoni Case includes never-before-seen testimonies from Isabella’s mom Ana Carolina Oliveira and her grandparents a tragic incident occurred that would shake Brazil and capture the attention of the world: five-year-old Isabella Nardoni was found critically injured after falling from the sixth floor of the Edifício London building in São Paulo She was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead shortly afterward subsequent investigations would point towards a far more sinister conclusion leading to one of the country’s most high-profile criminal cases Netflix slammed for using AI to ‘violate’ Gabby Petito in American Murder Alexandre Nardoni is the biological father of Isabella Nardoni An integral figure in the tragic series of events was implicated in the crime against his own daughter In A Life Too Short: The Isabella Nardoni Case we learn that Alexandre came from a wealthy family his father Antonio being a defense attorney himself and assisting in getting the story of what he believed to be his son’s innocence in the media who was previously with Isabella’s biological mother Ana Carolina Oliveira had custody of the young girl over the weekends She would spend the time at his home alongside the two children he’d had with his new wife both Alexandre and Anna maintained their innocence to the police telling investigators that a burglar had broken into their home while they were downstairs and thrown her over the balcony But a number of discrepancies emerged as the investigation continued including that the safety netting over the balcony had been cut They also gave inconsistent accounts about the events of the night Forensic evidence found no signs of a break-in at their residence while blood stains were discovered in the apartment and their car suggesting Isabella had been assaulted before her fall forensic analysis showed signs that Isabella may have been strangled prior to being thrown from the window Anna Carolina Jatobá is the stepmother of Isabella Nardoni Anna came under intense media scrutiny and public gaze during the investigations into Isabella’s death and the subsequent trial Portrayed as a figure of jealousy and rage by the prosecution she was accused of having a direct hand in the events leading to Isabella’s tragic demise She and Alexandre drew further suspicion from the public when a news broadcaster interviewed them both Some accused Anna of faking tears for the camera and of interrupting Alexandre whenever he tried to speak They both also focused a lot of their attention on driving the message that they were innocent rather than talking about how much they missed Isabella both Alexandre Nardoni and Anna Carolina Jatobá were found guilty of Isabella’s murder in March 2010 a particularly lengthy sentence due to the fact that the victim was his own daughter Their incarceration has continued to generate media interest especially amid the release of the new Netflix documentary the couple were serving time in Brazilian prisons Anna left to serve the rest of her sentence in an open regime Alexandre continues to serve his sentence in a semi-open regime with the benefit of occasional furloughs since 2019 there are still many experts and public members who believe the couple did not carry out the crime arguing that police are still unable to pinpoint the exact turn of events and that the media frenzy impacted the outcome of the trial it’s essential to differentiate between court evidence and the public’s perception A Life Too Short: The Isabella Nardoni Case is available to stream on Netflix now and you can check out some of our other documentaries coverage below: A Life Too Short: The Isabella Nardoni Case is a new Netflix documentary film that brings to light one of the most moving murder cases in Brazilian history a five-year-old girl named Isabella Nardoni was reported to have fallen to her death from her father and stepmother’s apartment The parents reported that someone had broken into their apartment and thrown their child out of her bedroom window unsettling clues and indications were found which led to a frenzy in the media and among the common people of the country Isabella Nardoni was born in 2002 to parents Ana Carolina Oliveira and Alexandre Alves Nardoni Carolina was just seventeen when she got pregnant her parents and family accepted Isabella with happiness after her birth Carolina was still growing up and understanding life her relationship with Alexandre did not last very long Carolina and Alexandre still continued to keep in touch because of their daughter they tried their best to ensure a good life for little Isabella Alexandre started dating another woman named Anna Carolina Jatoba and this gradually increased the distance between himself and his first partner she became more sensitive and understanding towards Isabella after this time Isabella would spend her weekends with her father and his family and Carolina did not ever feel uncomfortable with this arrangement Isabella also loved spending time with her step-siblings and she would be excited about these visits Alexandre took Isabella from her mother’s house to his own Carolina received a call in which she was informed that Isabella had been gravely injured in an accident as she had fallen from the window of her room the police in the northern part of Sao Paulo were also called by a man asking for help as there had been a horrible accident at his building He informed the police that there was a burglar inside the building who had broken into the apartment on the sixth floor and had thrown down a little girl from the window and although she did not die immediately after the fall she succumbed to her injuries and passed away within some time While Carolina and her parents rushed to the apartment building a shaken Alexandre and Anna kept claiming that there was a burglar inside their home who had committed this heinous act there was something odd about this entire incident especially given the fact that the apartment had safety nets on every floor The net outside Isabella’s room had been neatly cut open with a pair of scissors raising questions about whether a burglar would have enough time to do this When the Brazilian police first arrived at the scene their first response was to find and get hold of the reported burglar who had broken into the apartment building But despite combing the area around the place When the police gave their first official statement about the case they immediately identified it as a possible case of homicide since there was no chance of it being an accident Alexandre Nardoni and his partner Anna Jatoba had arrived home late in their car along with Isabella and two other kids who were the biological children of the couple Alexandre claimed that Isabella had already fallen asleep inside the car and had to be carried up to the apartment by him and his girlfriend while the two other children remained in the car When the couple came down to fetch the other kids Isabella had already fallen and was lying in the yard It was also mentioned that the stated burglar had entered the apartment at this time and had thrown the child from the window but no immediate explanation about the safety net having been cut was given The police naturally visited the apartment along with the building manager and other local authorities and found things to be very different from what had been stated There was no sign of any fight or forceful entry at the apartment whatsoever and it did not at all appear that there had been an intruder A pair of scissors was found in the kitchen and it was immediately identified as the tool that could have been used to cut a hole in the safety net as a small fragment of the safety net was still stuck inside the pair of scissors There were also drops of human blood found all over the apartment and the position of them made it seem like a bleeding person had been carried in through the door up to Isabella’s room since there was blood inside her room as well This made it clear that Isabella had been injured outside the apartment and was bleeding all the time until she was thrown There was also a bloody diaper found in one of the laundry baskets and the fact that this was the only item being washed out of numerous other dirty clothes made it seem rather suspicious When a post-mortem investigation was done on Isabella’s body more shocking secrets were revealed that contradicted the couple’s statements A deep cut was found on the girl’s forehead which was probably caused by some sharp instrument it was evident that Isabella had been strangled by someone The cause of her death was determined to be multiple traumas along with mechanical asphyxiation from being choked Alexandre and Jatoba were immediately arrested by the police and a full-fledged interrogation was started It also seemed odd to the police that from the moment the couple stepped foot inside the police station they were ready with lawyers and attorneys It seemed really odd that instead of trying to find their daughter’s murderer the couple were more determined to convince the police of the presence of a burglar and it was really his money that Alexandre lived on since the son did not do anything All the houses and cars that he used belonged to his father and it could be sensed that Alexandre was allowed to live off his family’s wealth as long as he did not go against their wishes More information about Anna Jatoba was also found particularly with regard to her suffering from postpartum depression after the birth of her second child She was very clearly depressed and caught up in life as suggested by the lack of friends that she had at the time It was also clear that whatever her husband and his family decided There had also been reports of Alexandre turning abusive against his partners She had even filed a complaint with the police some years ago when Alexandre threatened to harm Carolina and her mother when she had gotten Isabella admitted to a school against his will As is reported by one of the police personnel when Alexandre and Jatoba were temporarily released from prison they supposedly laughed and chatted their way back home as if nothing had happened and Isabella had not died the case had received a lot of attention from the press and the public The media got into its usual habit of turning an event into a sensational frenzy and all sorts of programs were telecast on TV more and more people started to demand justice for the poor girl and the entire anger of the country was directed at the parents It was perhaps most likely that Alexandre and Jatoba had indeed caused the death of their daughter but A Life Too Short also focuses on the claims that the case had been swayed because of public pressure The media attention did start to get out of hand and her family were also crowded by the press at all times The father and stepmother were hounded by journalists and reporters whenever it was possible and the two were almost persecuted on news television One program managed to conduct an interview with the couple the fact that they were not really used to answering questions on a TV program was perceived as them lying and making up answers Another program even supposedly conducted a lie detection test with a video of this interview and openly stated that Jatoba was lying There are also claims made in the documentary that the police and the authorities did not do their job correctly and instead gave in to the pressure of having to find the perpetrators quickly there was construction going on right beside the apartment building complex and the building could be very easily accessed through this construction site a reporter’s search through the construction site revealed that the place had been broken into during the previous weekend This made it theoretically possible that a burglar might have broken into the apartment building through the construction site and he could have had a role to play in Isabella’s death and after their interrogation of the worker who first talked about this break-in the construction worker changed his story and stated that there had been no break-in This was perceived to have been the police’s attempt to stop any other possibilities so that all focus remained on their current investigation it was a video presentation made by the forensics team that became instrumental in the court case against Alexandre and Jatoba This video was made on the basis of clues that had been found by the investigators at the place and it did have a lot of claims without any proof The theory put forward was that Alexandre and Jatoba had probably hit Isabella inside their car in order to discipline her but they had accidentally hurt her too hard The parents then strangled the child and threw her down to make it seem like an accident or that an intruder had thrown her down this claim was not entirely based on proof found at the crime scene and crucial elements were based only on hypothesis As the investigation continued for two long years Isabella Nardoni’s murder case was put up for court trial in March of 2010 This event also received very close media attention as it seemed like the entire country was eagerly waiting for a decision to be made and it was very much possible that some of them had been biased in their decision by the gruesome nature of the incident and also by the media frenzy on the outside The defense lawyers tried to bring a halt to the case by stating this too both the father and the stepmother were found guilty of killing Isabella Alexandre was sentenced to thirty-one years of imprisonment for murdering a minor who was his own daughter was sentenced to twenty-six years for homicide against a minor Alexandre and Jatoba have been in prison to this very day While many had believed that they would eventually confess their crimes and report against each other since that would ensure easier solutions for both of them Ammoland America’s oldest Second Amendment News outlet
