"We have listened to our customers and have created solutions keeping the supplier in mind," says Denise Junqueiro
"We believe this is the next generation of post-harvest products as they are safer
and more effective compared to conventional waxes currently available in the market," she added
All products from the new line have been designed to create solutions through the supply-chain that provide true value for customers with sustainability in mind
They are safer for workers because the solutions are all plant-based
creating an environment where workers can wear less PPE and offering a less toxic environment than most products available
which will ultimately benefit suppliers' top and bottom line
Fresh Formulaics comes in three different categories:
Customers have the option to buy one product from the Fresh Formulaics line or a combination of different options
depending on their needs and their operation
Launch at Fruit Logistica BerlinThe first product to be officially launched is from the Shine line
making its debut at next week's Fruit Logistica event in Berlin
it will be available to suppliers in Spain and South Africa
the line will become available for customers in the U.S
the solution that reduces spoilage and extends freshness
is currently in the commercial trial phase
Once the commercial trials have been finalized
the product will be launched and available globally
all products from the Fresh Formulaics line will mainly be applied to citrus
but opportunities are being explored in other commodities as well.Fresh Formulaics is a drop ship model
providing ease of use within the current packing structure
compatible with any other product that is currently used in the packing house," commented Junqueiro
this new product line gives the customer base the next level of support and allows them to meet sustainability and freshness goals without having to spend a tremendous amount of extra money

and mangos are just a few examples of fruits that travel the globe and are often consumed thousands of miles away from their growing region
It's the risk of high-value produce - that can be worth millions of dollars - arriving in a less than optimal condition
"We've developed a solution that allows the product to stay fresh during these long transit times and provides growers and shippers with more confidence for those transit times," says Denise Junqueiro with Apeel Sciences
great results have been achieved with vine vegetables that include cucumbers
"We want to provide them with more confidence
and support their product arriving in great condition." However
Apeel's goal also is to help their growers and shippers with opening up new markets
"If we could partner with a grower/shipper to utilize our technology and ship their product to Asia with a lot more confidence
it would provide them with increased market access." Apeel is witnessing a lot of interest to export produce from South America to Europe
but opportunities to ship from South America to Asia are also increasing
Water retentionUpon arrival at its final destination
the fruit or vegetable variety has to meet the weight that's on the box
This can be challenging as produce tends to dehydrate in transit
keeping produce close to its original weight
It prevents growers from having to overpack
produce that arrives in optimal condition will be faced with lower rejection rates
"Our technology is a very marginal add-on but creates a lot of efficiencies within the supply chain," Junqueiro mentioned
Flexibility of applicationThe solution is applied post-harvest
which is easy for packers to install and involves a minimal footprint
When Apeel first starts to partner with a new customer
a trial is set up to make sure the results are satisfactory
This involves installing equipment on the brush bed
The application can be turned on and off as the customer desires
"They decide whether all volume needs to be coated or just part of it
providing a lot of flexibility." In the past
Apeel offered a different product that took up about ten times more space and required more guidance and involvement from the Apeel team
and we started focusing on adjusting our model
in the past year efforts were geared towards fine-tuning our processes and offer a solution that our customers can apply independently while still providing an extreme benefit," Junqueiro said
provide more confidence and offer consumers higher quality fruit

Events leading up to the annual Park Fete weekend in Escalon saw some new royalty selected and a local couple honored for their contributions to the community
July 23 was an opportunity for Glenn and Terri Van Ruler to be in the spotlight
A luncheon hosted at the Escalon Community Center featured plenty of accolades for the couple
with some of their work in the community highlighted
Congratulatory proclamations were presented from both local and state officials as friends and family looked on
with the honorees wearing their sashes and looking forward to riding in the Saturday morning Park Fete parade
Ten hopefuls were vying for the crown and the pageant was coordinated by Renee Snow and Emelyn Mancilla
with outgoing Miss Escalon Aileen Aguirre serving as emcee
an opening act by the Miss Escalon participants
then a casual wear session was followed by formal wear modeling and questions for the contestants
Seeking the title this year were Charlotte Shaddix
Representatives of Manteca Youth Focus served as judges
each contestant was escorted to the stage by a family member and modeled for the judges while some biographical information was shared about them
They also each had to answer two impromptu questions
Receiving the title this year was Katherine Romero with Tessa Junqueiro the first runner up and Chloe Fraser the second runner up
it was back to the Community Center for the Little Miss and Mr
The patriotic theme saw the ‘littles’ doing a dance and most wearing red
after telling the audience their name and age
Candidates for Little Miss Escalon were Presley Merritt
Manteca Youth Focus once again provided the judges
Crowned as the new 2024 Little Miss Escalon was Liv Sharp
daughter of Chris Sharp and Emily Martin; and Jordan Miller
He is the son of Clayton and Brandi Miller
all had the opportunity to ride in the Saturday morning parade at Park Fete and spend some time throughout the day mingling with the crowd
Rosa Junqueiro is the listening ear on a bad day
the wise counselor when something is unclear and the warm embrace when love is needed
the errand runner and the chauffeur/chaperone who provides rides to volleyball practice or church youth group activities
16-year-old Christina and 13-year-old Sabrina
Junqueiro's juggling act includes a career
"Her job brings good dough," joked oldest daughter Christina
Junqueiro is the executive officer of San Joaquin County Superior Court
where she could be considered another kind of mother
and she does it all and keeps on going," Jon Junqueiro said
Rosa Junqueiro isn't alone when it comes to being a working woman
More than half of the women in the United States work or are actively searching for employment
the race for time begins the moment the family wakes up
Mom sometimes drives the carpool to Christina's high school and sometimes to Sabrina's middle school
works through paperwork and serves on a number of statewide committees
such as a legislative panel that reviews laws impacting the judicial system
It's important for her to focus on her job while she is there
but that doesn't always happen." Her workday doesn't always go uninterrupted
I'm going to answer that call because it could be an emergency
They understand I'm a mom and a wife," she said
Balancing life and work takes organization
» Saying no: "Knowing your own limits and not saying yes to everything that comes to your desk is very important
» Motivating her daughters: "I always tell my kids
'School is your job just like I have my job
You have to do well in your job just like I have to do well in my job.' "
» Discipline: "You have to be a mother first
then the iPod." Her daughters appreciate their mother and see her as a good role model
"She's devoted to work and to us," Sabrina said
Junqueiro's desire to raise a family in Tracy has led to career decisions that ultimately landed her the position as court executive officer in Stockton
but what I like most is that there are moments when
they come and kiss you and tell you they love you," Junqueiro said
