State governor Paulo Dantas said water supply was compromised due to rising river levels in at least 12 municipalities
He added that the government of Alagoas will direct financial resources to the affected municipalities
and funds will be used to purchase emergency kits consisting of drinking water

Brazil – July 2023 - The Don Bosco Youth Centre (CJDB
in Portuguese) in Matriz de Camaragibe welcomed 128 families displaced by the floods in the municipality into its facilities between 8 and 10 July
A total of 388 people were assisted in the institution
a spiritual and fraternal welcome from those who work and volunteer there
The "CJDB" is a reference point for welcoming those displaced by the floods that occur every year in the municipality
The parish helps by opening the chapel doors so that people can stay in a safe place
it is sad to see the families who have lost everything and the frightened children
but we must thank the Lord that they are all still alive and that the CJDB can once again open its doors to all those in need
"We have the help and immense support of CISBRASIL and the Salesian Province of Brazil-Recife (BRE)
which allowed us to feed the people here at the Centre
Volunteers promptly rushed to the 'CJDB' to help
with the support of the Municipality's Social Welfare Department

Councilor for the America South Cone Region
currently on an Extraordinary Visitation to the "St Luigi Gonzaga" Province of Brazil-Recife
has seen some extremely busy days in recent weeks
the Regional Councilor stopped in Salvador to learn more about the rich Salesian presence in the capital of the State of Bahia
After enjoying a first tourist-spiritual taste of the city on 17 April
Fr Romero began his visit on the morning of Sunday 18 with the Eucharist in the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians and a subsequent first meeting with the members of the local Salesian Family at the Salesian Lyceum
The following day he concentrated on animating the Salesian community
Fr Romero shared and highlighted with his confreres some important points linked to the 28th General Chapter
especially in the development and life of the Educational-Pastoral Community (CEP)
he underlined the dimension of evangelization
with the aim that Salesian action should not be reduced to mere assistance
and the importance of the Salesian sacrament of presence
the Visitor began individual conversations with the individual religious
On Tuesday 20 April he learned about the Salesian Institute more in depth
spent time in dialogue with teachers and staff
he also chatted with some groups of students
and finally he met with the Pastoral and Pedagogical teams
but dedicated to getting to know the reality of the Salesian high school in Salvador
The following morning the Regional Councilor left for Aracaju
from 29 April to 1 May the Visitor was in Matriz de Camaragibe
Among the various events held over the four days
the following should be noted: the meeting with the Salesian Family
encouraged all present to tell a little about their activities; the one with the various pastoral groups and movements active in the local parish; meeting with the archbishop of Maceió

and on that same day presided over a Mass for the young people who animate that Salesian presence
The Regional Councilor remains on a visit to João Pessoa until today

Bishop Breda was born on 24 January 1945 in San Fior di Sotto
He made his religious profession in the Salesian Congregation on August 16
his perpetual profession in Albarè on August 16
and was ordained a priest on 29 June 1973 in his hometown
in Italy he served the Congregation at the Salesian Classical Lyceum of Manfredini di Este and as head of the Youth Center of the Salesian parish of Padua
he worked in the parish of Matriz of Camaragibe (1983-1993)
and became a member of the Brazilian Society of Canons (SBC)
later being appointed Provincial of the Brazil-Recife Province (BRE) in 1993
He did not complete his six-year term because on 30 July 1997 Pope John Paul II appointed him bishop of Penedo

he chose as his episcopal motto Caritas Christi Urget (The Love of Christ drives us)
In addition to carrying out his mandate as pastor in the diocese

Archbishop Breda had been admitted to the Arthur Ramos Memorial Hospital in Maceió on April 15 after suffering a stroke

the funerals were broadcast live on the social networks of local parishes and communities
