Tshala Muana began her journey as a musician in the late 1970s. She combined traditional African rhythms with modern Western sounds to produce some of the most remarkable songs ever played. Her efforts made her one of the most successful female musicians in Africa. Unfortunately, Tshala Muana died on 10 December 2022, aged 64, in Kinshasa, DRC. But what was Tshala Muana’s cause of death?

Photo: Jack VartoogianSource: Getty ImagesTshala Muana was a Congolese singer, songwriter, and dancer. She was best known for her top hits of the 80s, Amina, Tshebele, Antidote, and Karibu Yangu. Unlike most Congolese musicians who primarily sang in Lingala, Tshala Muana employed the Mutuashi rhythm and composed songs in her first language, Tshiluba.
That made people nickname her the Queen of Mutuashi. In 2008, the Congolese government awarded her the Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite (National Order of Merit) in recognition of her work promoting peace and democracy in the DRC.

Tshala Muana was born Élisabeth Tshala Muana Muidikay on 13 March 1958 (age 64 as of 10 December 2022) in Lubumbashi, Élisabethville, Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of Congo). She was the daughter of Amadeus Muidikayi (father) and Alphonsine Bambiwa Tumba (mother). Furthermore, Tshala Muana was the second of ten siblings, including Pascal, Albert, Jean-Marie, Claudine, Elisabeth-Ketty, Marcel, Monique, Elisabeth, and Severin.

When Tshala Muana lived on earth for 64 years, she never got married and did not have children. However, she had a partner named Claude Mashala. Claude Mashala was Tshala Muana’s manager.

Tshala Muana died at a hospital in Kinshasa
Rumours then emerged at that time that Tshala Muana died of Covid-19. However, she immediately released a statement from her hospital bed, diffusing the stories that she had passed away. Furthermore, her manager and partner, Claude Mashala, dismissed the assertions that Tshala Muana was in the hospital for coronavirus.
Tshala Muana also suffered from diabetes and hypertension, as confirmed by her manager. Unfortunately, she died after battling various ailments for a long time.

Tshala Muana’s songs often addressed crucial socio-political issues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, her political views finally put her in trouble in 2020 when the police arrested her for releasing the song Ingratitude which criticised the country’s president.
Between 1982 and 2016, Tshala Muana released at least 20 music albums and hundreds of songs. Her most popular songs are:
