This is the amazing moment newborn twins were born still inside their amniotic sacs
Mum Cristiane Mucci welcomed her newborn twins Maria Cecilia and Maria Alice at the Hospital de Nossa Senhora das Dores in Brazil
they were still inside their perfectly intact amniotic sacs in what is called a double en caul birth
You can watch the incredible footage below:
The extremely rare birth happens in less than one in 80,000 births and are particularly rare because the amniotic sac usually ruptures when the mother's water breaks or when she is in labour
the twins can be seen encased in their sacs
meanwhile as the medical team gently pull them open
the Hospital de Nossa Senhora das Dores said: "On 11th June
two twins came into the world in the maternity ward of the Hospital de Nossa Senhora das Dores
"Cristiane Mucci gave birth to little ones Maria Cecilia and Maria Alice Mucci
this birth was different and special: the babies were born en caul
still inside the amniotic sac that protects the baby during pregnancy
"The delivery was performed by gynaecologist and obstetrician Dr Emilio Garavini and the HNSD surgical team
he realised that it would be possible to perform the delivery en caul
"What he didn't imagine is that he would be able to pull out the two babies en caul and moreover at the same time
happening only once in every 80,000 births
babies who are born en caul will be very lucky during their lifetime
