The Chicago roll-up gets a chief marketing officer who gets RIAs as it becomes part-Dynasty, part- Fiduciary Network in adopting a very 2019 deal structure for LourdMurray
Bob Oros starts his CEO life at HighTower Advisors with a town hall meeting and clear authority
The former Fidelity RIA chief now runs his formerly largest RIA client, from Chicago, and with Elliot Weissbluth as chairman, 'inorganic' asset and 'evangelist'
A 20-year Merrill Lynch veteran got Sanctuary Wealth to $10 billion in AUA in 15 months with no outside capital and no time in bed: 'Nobody's slept since April'
Jim Dickson also recruited HighTower talent, Amit Dogra, to bring the old HighTower brokerage model and execute it as HighTower veers toward buying RIAs
As Bob Oros-led HighTower reboots, it bags an ex-Goldman RIA, hires two, makes a CMO imminent, and clarifies mission
The new CEO will need to somehow weave together the debris of the first roll-up run and the new one to the satisfaction of RIAs and the hundreds of people already inside the HighTower umbrella

The latest round of General Services Administration cuts is hitting Technology Transformation Services
specifically within the Integrated Award Environment (IAE)
and Office of Regulatory and Oversight Systems (OROS) programs
public experience and accelerators are all affected by the reductions
according to a source with knowledge of the situation
programs that are safe from the current — and widespread — reductions in force include FedRAMP
fellowships and front office are untouched as well.
TTS Director Thomas Shedd previously said during remarks at a GSA town hall that OROS and IAE would be prioritized
OROS and the three products in that office would continue “as required by law,” Shedd said
“Cutting more staff might endanger basic system operations and cause IAE to have issues which could break all of federal contracting,” a source familiar with the GSA said.
The source familiar with the GSA told FedScoop that IAE has already seen the loss of several layers of leadership and a few major contracts
IAE serves as a governmentwide initiative that the GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service
IAE is tasked with modernizing the “award experience” through facilitating the process in online systems that are used for doing business with the federal government and other contracting activities
Shedd said during last month’s town hall that IAE would “continue to exist and remain under TTS for now.”
“We’ve been working to exit legacy contracts and double down on required modernization,” Shedd said
“This team and program have seen rapid change
but I am excited about where we will land.”
The source with knowledge of the situation told FedScoop that the GSA called all affected divisions into an emergency meeting with human resources at noon Thursday
Those unaffected were notified of the reduction in force later
Federal News Network first reported that the RIF was happening
Shedd told employees that the agency was moving to smaller teams to provide support to shared services and partner agencies
The former Tesla engineer clarified that TTS programs would remain operational
The new round of cuts follows comments Shedd made last month that TTS would face at least a 50% RIF in order to deliver technology in a “more focused and streamlined way.” He added that TTS would only pursue work that is required by statute and policy — supported by the Trump administration’s definition of “critical” — and prioritized by leadership at GSA.
The latest workforce reduction also follows the overnight shutdown last month of 18F
an internal team of engineers and tech consultants that worked to develop open-source tools to improve digital services across the government
Hightower Advisors has seen substantial growth from $57 billion AUA to more than $1.8 trillion in recent years, guided by CEO Bob Oros

Hightower Advisors CEO Bob Oros will step down from his role this spring
with Goldman Sachs AYCO CEO Larry Restieri succeeding him
the Chicago-based RIA acquirer announced Tuesday
the change in leadership will be “effective in spring 2025,” and Oros will remain a member of the firm’s Board to help ensure a clean transition
Oros said he looked forward to supporting Restieri “as a board member and advisor.”
“Larry is an exceptional leader who brings deep familiarity with the wealth management landscape and a strong commitment to serving advisors and their clients,” Oros said

SXSW is officially underway, bringing a densely packed slate of exciting new genre premieres. That includes eerie Midnighter The Home, based on the novel by horror author Mats Strandberg (The Conference)
Watch our exclusive festival teaser below ahead of the film’s premiere this Monday, March 10
which gives very little away in terms of plot but emphasizes an unsettling atmosphere and scares
The fest’s official synopsis: “Many years after leaving the small town behind
a home for the elderly struggling with dementia
Monika’s health takes a turn for the worse soon after her arrival
She experiences terrifying visions of her late husband
Joel begins to believe that something malevolent and supernatural has taken control of his mother
But with his own history of substance abuse and mental instability
Joel must confront the demons of his own past
dredged up by his return to the home where he grew up.”
Director Mattias J Skoglund adapts Mats Strandberg’s novel
Strandberg is a prolific horror writer from Sweden whose books have been published in over 30 countries. The novel’s description might give a clearer idea on what to expect in terms of horror: “The Home is not quite a ghost story
friendship and the greatest horror of all; losing control of yourself.”
The Home will also have additional fest screenings on March 12 and March 15 after its premiere

Damariscotta River Cruises co-owners Olga Oros and Chip Holmes pose next to their vessel
one of four boats they have docked at Schooner Landing Restaurant and Marina in August 2023
The couple is celebrating 10years of trips on the Damariscotta River this summer aboard the Teciani
Damariscotta River Cruises in Damariscotta is celebrating its 10th full season of riparian voyages in the Twin Villages
Business and life partners Chip Holmes and Olga Oros have been operating their tour boat service from the dock at Schooner Landing Restaurant and Marina in Damariscotta full time since 2014
“It’s hard to believe it’s been a decade,” Oros said
said the business came about after hearing customers at the restaurant wonder aloud about how they could get on the river
said he’s had boats on the river “forever,” so the idea came naturally after hearing enough of a need
Oros said she and Holmes began looking for a boat that could be certified to take up to 49 people on the river
the certification process for vessels carrying more than 49 passengers is much more involved
and the additional capacity wasn’t worth the effort
The search for an appropriate vessel was a difficult one
but in spring 2014 they found the perfect fit in Eastport: a 50-foot Uniflite Utility Boat
which Holmes said was formerly used by the United States Navy to freight soldiers up and down rivers
the vessel needed a few “minor” things to be river-worthy
such as an engine and a lot of electrical work
“We pretty much were only able to salvage the hull
After a spring of time consuming renovations to the boat to prepare it for its United States Coast Guard certification
After a delay getting the boat’s new electrical diagram approved by the Coast Guard
Damariscotta River Cruises officially took its first excursion in August 2013 and in 2014 they had their first full season
and we thought it fitting to make her the godmother of our boat,” Oros said
About 70% of the passengers aboard the Teciani at any given moment are people from the area
“It’s amazing how many people from the area have never had the opportunity to see the river like this,” she said
oyster farm and seal watching tour on “most summer days,” an oyster and wine tasting cruise on Wednesday and Saturday evenings
Oros said the oyster farm and seal watching tour is their most popular
Every year they update the script Holmes reads from for their most popular tour because the industry on the river is always growing
“When we started there were only seven oyster farms
fresh oysters from the river and a full bar are available during the voyage
“We want to represent the oyster farmers and the farms
so we make sure to have at least six kinds of oysters from the farms on the river aboard,” Oros said
Holmes said sometimes they even get a fresh delivery from an oyster farm mid-cruise
“They’ll come up in their boat and pass over a bag of oysters and we don’t even have to stop,” Holmes said
“There’s farm to table and then boat to bar.”
Holmes and Oros said usually runs from Mother’s Day through the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta that occurs in October
“We start on Mother’s Day because that’s when everything starts happening on the river,” Oros said
and the oyster farmers are in full swing.”
In addition to their offerings on the Teciani
the couple also owns two more boats docked near the Teciani called the Nebi and the Mazu
make up another business they run on the dock
which gives people the opportunity to spend a night aboard a boat tied to the dock
which they started a year after starting Damariscotta River Cruises
the couple has a smaller boat called Half-Shell
which can take up to six people out on the river
The couple said they love working on the river and connecting people from away and from here with the area
“I’ve got a pretty great office,” Holmes said of captaining the Teciani
There is no set celebration for the decade of trips
but Holmes and Oros said once the fervor of the season is over in the fall they may take a moment to celebrate with friends

I became really interested in financial planning after my mom took me to an appointment with her financial advisor
Being able to help people in this way was interesting to me
How would you describe your career progression
I didn’t think about my career progression as very linear
I was very open to making lateral moves if they challenged me in some way
I started my career in the banking sector before moving into tech
where I did technical support for a software development company.
working with Charles Schwab and other financial entities in various roles — one such role included serving as CEO of a software company I formerly worked with that was acquired by Charles Schwab later in my career
I then landed at Hightower Advisors as chairman and CEO five years ago
Many people are starstruck by the title of ‘CEO.’ What’s something about being a CEO people may not realize
I’m ultimately responsible for everything that happens within the company
yet I’m not actually touching 99% of the work
you have a peer group — fellow managers
colleagues on similar levels — that you can go to
you have to find that in different ways.
How do you feel CMU prepared you to become the professional you are today
The incredible commitment of the faculty and administration helped me tremendously
They were — and are still — always willing to develop real
What do you credit with your career success
I created a litmus test for what would define a career opportunity I'd have an interest in:
I want to be doing something that is enjoyable
I’ve used these standards for more than 20 years in my career and they’ve always served me well
What’s your proudest professional moment
I’m incredibly proud of the company I get to represent today because we’ve been part of redefining an industry
and we’ve proven our success through exponential growth
I’m also very proud of receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award
What advice would you give to up-and-coming students
As you’re making decisions about your career
be curious about the companies you’re interviewing with
Get to know more about them than just their sales pitch
Take that job that’s a lateral move but that will give you a new skill set that will set you up for success somewhere else down the line
and then be patient and have faith it will be rewarded
social media and the internet weren’t big things
We would go to our counselor’s office and pull brochures
there was just something about it that felt like home
felt it again when I visited for my first CMU and You Day
What book recommendations do you have for young professionals
“Good to Great” by Jim Collins
There are so many fundamental teachings about the differences between good companies and great companies
“The Five Disfunctions of a Team” by Patrick Lencioni
One of the reasons I love the industry I’m in is because there’s always a family
client or institution we’re helping accomplish something

to speak at College of Business Administration ceremony
It’s been more than three decades since Bob Oros crossed the commencement stage at Central Michigan University to receive his bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance
he’s returning to campus to don regalia and share advice with a new class of CMU leaders.
Robert “Bob” Oros, class of 1990, has accepted President Davies’ invitation to address the class of 2024 at the College of Business Administration’s May commencement ceremony
“Bob Oros is the epitome of a Fired Up
engaged alumnus,” said CMU President Bob Davies
“He leveraged the knowledge and experience he gained at CMU to succeed in his career
both as a volunteer and through his philanthropic giving
and he is reaching back to CMU to lift up the next generation of leaders
He is a true role model and an aspirational leader
and it will be an honor to share the stage with him at commencement.”
Oros is the chairman and CEO of Hightower Advisors
a national wealth management firm based in Chicago
In his more than 30 years of professional experience
he has held leadership roles at several financial services and wealth management firms
Oros also serves as chairman of the board of directors for the Mental Health Association of Greater Chicago
His previous volunteer involvements have included work to support economic empowerment and survivors of domestic violence
Oros reviews the fund’s investment activity
Oros hosted five CMU students at a conference for financial advisors in New York City
He arranged for the students to tour the New York Stock Exchange
including a meeting with the organization’s vice chairman
The learning adventure was one of many professional development experiences Oros has provided for students; others have included a visit to the Chicago Board of Trade and meetings at his own firm.
Since 2005, Oros has served as a member of the CMU Finance Department Advisory Board. He also serves as a member of the College of Business Dean’s Advisory Roundtable and as a judge in the CMU New Venture Challenge.
College of Business Administration Dean Chris Moberg said Oros has been a tireless advocate for students since reconnecting with CMU and the college five years ago
“From funding a multi-asset fund that allows our students to gain hands-on experience with portfolio management to hosting and mentoring our students
Bob has been gracious with his time and is directly preparing our students to compete and thrive after graduation,” Moberg said
“Based on his impressive career and his demonstrated willingness to help our students develop as future community and business leaders
I believe he will have tremendous wisdom and encouragement to share in his commencement address.”
In 2023, Oros was selected to receive CMU’s Distinguished Alumni Award
given in recognition of his significant positive impact on the university and in his home community of Chicago
The College of Business Administration commencement ceremony will be held at 9 a.m
