The Dukes went 8-4 in the 2024 regular season and they’ll hope to build on their successes in 2025 A big 2025 season will come down largely to roster management Holy Cross — He’s coming off a season-ending injury including a two-touchdown performance against Boston College in 2023 the Dukes have one of the best short-yardage tandems at RB in the Sun Belt Stanford/Duke — While the graduate transfer has only played 71 career offensive snaps at the Power Four level the former four-star recruit is a sweet addition by JMU’s coaches and he gives JMU added depth at left tackle to compete with returner Joseph Simmons The big-bodied linemen should be well-suited for the Group of Five level and it’s possible he has two years of eligibility left depending on NCAA approval of a waiver request P (6’4 and 215 lbs) – The Dukes backup punter in 2024 VanSlyke isn’t so much an addition as he is a returner He exited the portal recently and will return to the Dukes in 2025 which is meaningful as he can play both punter and kicker He’s a great depth piece and developmental prospect on special teams with a chance to earn the starting punter job in the near future Army/Iowa State — He might be JMU’s most impactful spring addition Alston is a big-bodied WR with speed and game-changing ability as a deep threat He played sparingly for the Cyclones after a great career at Army He caught two passes for 52 yards for Iowa State in the team’s bowl game against Miami and he had over 1,000 yards receiving in four seasons at Army given the fact that the service academy program rarely throws the football compared to FBS peers He gives JMU an NFL-sized target on the outside He’s entering his final year of college football Cincinnati — Willis recorded 23 tackles and two interceptions in 170 snaps in 2023 before only playing 20 snaps in 2024 He’s lined up at both corner and safety during his career and he gives JMU additional depth with two years of eligibility left although it’s unclear exactly which position he’ll play for the Dukes in the defensive backfield.  Maryland — A slot receiver and return specialist Wisloski will help fill the role opened when Yamir Knight entered the portal Wisloski is a top candidate to win JMU’s kickoff and punt return jobs He returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown against UVA in 2023 and Wisloski averaged over 8 yards per punt return in 2024 He only caught five passes for 75 yards in 2024 but he was on a Maryland team with multiple NFL prospects at WR He has two years of eligibility left.  Colgate — This is a nice get for the Dukes in the spring portal as Taddeo was one of the best FCS players available He finished the 2024 season with 34 tackles He’ll earn playing time in the interior of the defensive line and he has potential to be a starter alongside Immanuel Bush He has one year of eligibility left.  Holy Cross – McNair started at right tackle for the Crusaders in 2024 earning First Team All-Patriot League honors the eligibility left as 2025 will be his sixth season of college football He’s a good route runner with elite hands only dropping one pass over the last two seasons despite being targeted 161 times dropped seven passes last fall across 63 targets DeGennaro’s 2024 season only lasted nine games because of injury but when healthy he’s likely to be among the most productive G5 receivers Coleman helped lead Richmond to 10 wins in 2024 completing 65% of his passes and adding 342 yards on the ground He ran for six TDs and threw for 13 and 5 INTs He’s a really good player and will push for the starting job in 2025 His PFF grade of 85 was among the best of any QB at the FCS level in 2024.  Holy Cross and UNLV – Chesney’s former QB is coming to Harrisonburg for his final college season Sluka time with the Fighting Irish but the athletic defensive end has three years of eligibility left and was a top-300 player coming out of high school If he regains his health — he battled an ACL injury in 2023 and 2024 — the traits are there for Gobaira to be disruptive at the G5 level He’s a fascinating developmental prospect with high upside Holy Cross – Harris-Lopez checks all the boxes in an ideal transfer acquisition Familiarity with Bob Chesney and other coaches as he had 9.5 TFLs in 2024 and 56 total tackles as Harris-Lopez had two interceptions and seven pass breakups last season He played well in the team’s lone FBS matchup posting six tackles and two tackles for loss against a 10-win Syracuse team He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown for the Crusaders Expect him to play significant snaps in 2025 for the Dukes perhaps even starting alongside Jacob Thomas Louisiana Tech – Bush began his career at LSU before moving to the G5 Liberty and WKU also recruited the defensive tackle He needs to improve his consistency — he was the lowest-graded defender on Louisiana Tech’s team per PFF — but his talent and size make him an interesting developmental prospect with high upside East Texas A&M – The Dukes added a long snapper with one year of eligibility left He’s one of the highest-graded long snappers in all of college football Maryland – Harley began his collegiate career at Villanova and spent the last three seasons at Maryland He will be a redshirt senior with one year of eligibility remaining Harley was one of the few bright spots in the Terps’ secondary in potential He should immediately play meaningful snaps at DE for JMU UNC – An interior offensive linemen from UNC Greenberg began his career at the D3 level He played in four games for the Tar Heels in 2024 He’s a potential starting center or guard for JMU in his final year of eligibility.  Watch our interview with Zach here. Dukes added a star WR from the area Ellis caught 50 passes for over 500 yards and 4 TDs in 2024 That would’ve been the highest of any JMU wide receiver in 2024 giving him better size than most of the Dukes’ returning receivers WR to SMU — Knight caught 53 passes for 605 yards and four touchdowns for the Dukes in 2024 and was expected to start at slot WR in 2025 He’ll join a program that made the College Football Playoff in 2024 CB to Memphis — A three-year contributor for the Dukes as he was seemingly benched/injured for several games Logan’s size and production (22 pass breakups in three seasons) could be challenging for the Dukes to replace but he lacked consistency during his JMU tenure.  Atkins led the Dukes to their first bowl win last season as he struggled early in his career with a rough performance against Marshall in 2023 But he stuck with the program despite Curt Cignetti putting him on blast He was called upon in the 2024 bowl game with Alonza Barnett and Dylan Morris both injured and he delivered an efficient performance to help the Dukes make history He’ll likely look for a place where he has a chance to start perhaps at a lower-end G5 program or at the FCS level portal in the spring Francis and was highly productive in his first FBS season.  S to Akron – The defense back played at JMU in 2023 and 2024 He should find increased playing time elsewhere Jean will play elsewhere for his final year of eligibility It’s unlikely he would’ve played a major role in 2025 RB to Charleston Southern – The redshirt freshman announced on Instagram that he is entering the portal He played in 6 games across two years and redshirted in 2023 He will have three years of eligibility.  Hampton – Moss played two seasons for the Dukes recording three catches for 34 yards and a are our 3 winners and 3 losers during the spring portal window: The spring transfer portal window is now closed and even though not as much change happened as opposed to the winter window Michigan was fortunate to have not suffered many transfers at important positions relative to the rest of the country. Earlier this week, we ranked Michigan’s portal exits by significance to further demonstrate that point we looked nationally to see who the winners and losers were of the spring window The Bruins were on the receiving end of one of the most bizarre transfer decisions we’ve seen in college football history Reportedly unhappy with Tennessee’s offense and the NIL package he was receiving quarterback Nico Iamaleava opted to transfer closer to home and play at UCLA UCLA was able to bring in a former five-star recruit at the most important position on the field for a non-absurd amount of NIL money That has to be considered a win for the Bruins Aguilar finds himself in an incredibly unique position only to be pushed out the door following the addition of Iamaleava Aguilar filled the void at Tennessee in a de facto trade between the programs Volunteer fans burned by Iamaleava’s decision have no choice but to get fully behind Aguilar as their presumptive starter he would be beloved by fans for a long time The transfer portal’s fourth-highest rated running back was a surprise addition to Oklahoma’s roster this spring Ott goes to Norman with 3,460 all-purpose yards under his belt and a First-Team All-Pac 12 honor from 2023 to boot While his 2024 season wasn’t quite as good as 2023 It’s not often you’re able to acquire a starting running back at a Power 4 program in the spring window Throw in the addition of guard Jake Maikkula from Stanford and you can see it was a very successful spring for the Sooners On the flip side of Oklahoma’s winner status is Cal’s as a loser The Golden Bears had a nice start to the season last year by defeating Auburn on the road including one as a host for College GameDay Cal lost quarterback Fernando Mendoza to Indiana earlier in the offseason but was expected to lean heavily on Ott and the running game in 2025 Iamaleava came out of his transfer saga looking so much worse He left a team that had just made the College Football Playoff for a Big Ten basement dweller he reportedly left Tennessee due to an NIL dispute Tennessee’s offensive scheme is much more quarterback-friendly than UCLA’s is Iamaleava left Tennessee to go to a worse team while making less money and in a less friendly scheme Perhaps he should hire an actual agent to handle his business for him The fall from grace for Rashada continued this spring. Formerly a top high school prospect, he was committed to Florida at one point and viewed as the future of the Gator program. He never made it to Gainesville, as he backed out an enrolled at Arizona State instead where he was subsequently buried on the depth chart It’s possible he gets it figured out and resurrects his career he belongs in this category for now considering he could have been in the SEC as the face of Florida football and not at a program like Sacramento State Virginia Tech saw some key players enter rather than test the NFL Draft or return to Blacksburg What a difference a year makes in terms of retention One year after getting a slew of retention head coach Brent Pry saw several players bolt the program When the college football transfer portal window opened in the winter who left to become the offensive line coach at Ohio State in February Entering what is a huge season in 2025 for Pry the work done in the transfer portal has been successful to On3 and they have finished higher in the rankings in the ACC as yo may think Work needed to be done in the portal, and according to On3 They have Virginia Tech with the fourth highest transfer portal grade The Hokies have 24 transfers come into the program which has coach Tony Elliott in the same boat entering the season as Pry with what is likely a make-or-break campaign There is still more work to be done by Pry as a quarterback with experience is necessary with Kyron Drones and Pop Watson dealing with injuries and Drones having an injury history already This is shaping up to be a successful portal season for Pry; now © 2025 Minute Media - All Rights Reserved The content on this site is for entertainment and educational purposes only Betting and gambling content is intended for individuals 21+ and is based on individual commentators' opinions and not that of Minute Media or its affiliates and related brands All picks and predictions are suggestions only and not a guarantee of success or profit If you or someone you know has a gambling problem crisis counseling and referral services can be accessed by calling 1-800-GAMBLER ","https://fansided.com/",{"alt":"5w","src":"5x","url":"5y"},{"type":"5v","value":"5z"},"link","Minute Media","https://www.minutemedia.com/",{"text":"62","url":"63"},{"type":"61","value":"64"},"All Rights Reserved Betting and gambling content is intended for individuals 21+ and is based on individual commentators' opinions and not that of Minute Media or its affiliates and related brands He has worked for daily newspapers as well as various websites Work needed to be done in the portal, and according to On3, Pry and his staff did their work. They have Virginia Tech with the fourth highest transfer portal grade, coming in only behind Miami, SMU and North Carolina. The Hokies have 24 transfers come into the program, with four of them being four-stars. Right behind Virginia Tech is Virginia, which has coach Tony Elliott in the same boat entering the season as Pry with what is likely a make-or-break campaign. There is still more work to be done by Pry, as a quarterback with experience is necessary, with Kyron Drones and Pop Watson dealing with injuries, and Drones having an injury history already. This is shaping up to be a successful portal season for Pry; now, the results need to come on the field. Brent Pry has done some serious work in the transfer portal this offseason. He played 21 snaps as a true freshman for the Boilermakers, but the Gophers beat out Ohio State to land his commitment this spring. Out of any (non-specialist) players on this list, I think he has the clearest path to starting this season. At 6-foot-5, 300 pounds, he played all 21 of his snaps at right guard last season, but he could have the potential to play guard or tackle this season. Omonode was one of two players Minnesota added from Purdue this spring. He is only one of six defensive linemen on the Gophers' roster who have played more than 600 college snaps. Deven Eastern and Jalen Logan-Redding will be the top two contributors inside, but Omonode could be play a significant reserve role and he'll provide some much needed depth to a rather shallow position group. Much like Omonode, Nestor fills in some depth for Minnesota at a position that badly needed it. NC Central transfer Jaylen Bowden and Za'Quan Bryan project as the starting outside cornerbacks, with Jai'Onte McMillan as the projected starter at nickel. Nestor could compete for the third outside spot in 2025. He played 121 career snaps for the Hawkeyes, and he's now only the fourth cornerback on Minnesota's roster to play more than 26. Minnesota surprisingly added two punters this spring. Redshirt sophomore Caleb McGrath and true freshman Luke Ryerse were already on the roster, but it looks like Weston and Richter will compete for the starting role in 2025. If the prosposed 105-player roster limit comes into effect this season, carrying four punters seems like a confusing roster building strategy, but they added much needed experience at the position. Cardenas played one season at Vanderbilt, where he did not log a snap before transferring to the Gophers. He has intriguing long-term potential at the position, but he'll likely start as the fifth running back on Minnesota's roster in 2025. He gives the Gophers another talented option at the position, but it wouldn't surprise me if he plays a very minimal role this season. She not only led Utah in scoring at 19.3 points per game, but also chipped in an average of three assists, thriving as a pick-and-roll ball handler for a Utah offense that ranked fifth in Division I in effective field goal percentage (54.9 percent) and 10th in assisted shot rate (67.5 percent) Kneepkens may have been Utah’s biggest scoring threat under head coach Lynne Roberts (who is now with the Los Angeles Sparks) but she did much more to make the team’s offense effective than just spot up from behind the arc Roberts won’t be the only WNBA coach keeping an eye on Kneepkens as she decides where to play next especially when they’re as tall as Kneepkens is so her name will surely be floated around as a draft prospect no matter where she commits to What remains to be seen is what kind of a role Kneepkens will play when she ultimately transfers; Roberts’ offense at Utah fit Kneepkens’ skillset like a glove and while her jumpshooting would be of service to any team in the country she may not have the ball in her hands as often as she did with the Utes and though it granted her an extra year of NCAA eligibility she’ll use the medical redshirt to play her graduate season elsewhere Whichever program Phelia chooses will be hoping she can return to the form that earned her a pair of All-Big Ten selections as a member of the Michigan Wolverines Phelia averaged better than 16 points per game in her sophomore and junior seasons quickly developing from a defensive specialist to a player who could contribute at a high level on both ends of the court and she leverages that physicality on offense about 22 percent of her points have come at the free throw line Phelia’s 3-point shot isn’t quite as consistent—she shot 27.8 percent on 3s as a freshman 41.7 percent as a sophomore and 32.1 percent as a junior—but there’s enough there to hope that she can become a well-rounded scorer Decision makers in the WNBA will be watching for Phelia because of her pro-ready physical tools and if she ends up in the right situation for her graduate season so that's a substantial 25% in savings A Sony warranty may or may not be included but Amazon Resale items benefit from the same 30-day return policy you get for buying a new item We expect this item to sell out pretty quickly Make sure to select the "Save with Used - Like New" option Moderate packing damage observed during inspection Sony's handheld gaming accessory for the PS5 console looks very much like an extended split-pad DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen in the middle of it It turns your PS5 into a gaming handheld by letting you stream games from your console at up to 60fps The controller mirrors the same features found on the DualSense and a touchscreen interface that replaces the Dualsense's touchpad The Portal can stream your games even when you're outside of your home with the caveat that you have access to very stable Keep in mind that the PS Portal is not a standalone device This is strictly a remote player for the PlayStation 5 Choose the latter and suddenly you have access to a library of more than 120 games It’s worth noting you must be a subscriber to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus but $18 a month is much more attractive that splashing out $500 upfront plus an extra $70 a game It should be said that the PlayStation Portal isn’t the only way to stream your PS5 games over Wi-Fi within your home You can mimic its functionality by downloading the PS Remote Play app on a mobile device including other gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck it's more complicated to set up and you'll lose out on some of the Dualsense's features PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy Eric Song is the IGN commerce manager in charge of finding the best gaming and tech deals every day. Spring practices are starting to wrap up at college football programs across the country which means another checkpoint in the lead up to the 2025 season is upon us With teams getting a first look at their new rosters with early enrollees, winter transfers and departing players, the spring transfer portal is set to open Teams will be looking to upgrade a few key positions determined by what they saw in camp whereas players might be looking for greener pastures as they seek more playing time or a chance at a jump to a higher level More money could be another obvious reason REQUIRED READING: Nico Iamaleava's Tennessee football career is over after NIL dispute, holdout Programs are putting more money than ever into recruiting and transfer portal resources as numerous power teams are starting to build out NFL-like front offices to fit in with the times of the ever-changing sport The spring transfer portal window is shorter than in year's past in hopes of teams having more roster continuity from season to season Here's everything to know of the spring transfer portal in 2025 The spring transfer portal opens on Wednesday Players must officially enter the portal on one of the days inside the window to be eligible to play at their next school for the 2025 season NCAA rules don't restrict players on when they can transfer if a player officially enters outside either the winter or spring windows or outside a team-specific window that opens when a head coach leaves Graduate students can enter the transfer portal at any time Players don't have to commit or sign during the window but they must officially enter the transfer portal The winter and spring transfer portal windows were shortened by a combined 15 days ahead of the 2025 season. some issues," Franklin said after the Nittany Lions' final spring practice RELATED: What we learned about Penn State at the Blue-White Game Penn State is in a unique spot at linebacker entering the 2025 season The position won't be the focus of new coordinator Jim Knowles' defense It was a position that underwent the most under-the-radar change this offseason Penn State lost starting middle linebacker Kobe King to the NFL Draft who had one season of eligibility remaining could have returned as the team's midfield anchor getting selected in the sixth round by the Minnesota Vikings the Nittany Lions "lost a guy we didn't anticipate losing," as Franklin framed it That was redshirt freshman linebacker Ta'Mere Robinson who entered the transfer portal during the spring window leaving the Nittany Lions without a player whom Franklin said "was trending in the right direction" during spring drills Penn State also did not have starting linebacker Tony Rojas available this spring as he was recovering from an offseason procedure DaKaari Nelson also did not partcipate in the Blue-White Game redshirt junior Keon Wylie is returning from a 2024 injury That left Penn State with fifth-year senior Dom DeLuca and redshirt freshman Anthony Speca as the top linebackers for the first-team defense Saturday but the Nittany Lions could be looking for another impact player at the position but there's some concerns there," Franklin said So we're going to look at the portal and see if we can find a solution we'd like it to be somebody that is connected to us and that we know because we've got a really good locker room I want to make sure that we're bringing the right people into our locker room Penn State did add a transfer player Saturday, as former Syracuse receiver Trebor Pena committed to the program where he led the ACC in total receptions last year Franklin wouldn't discuss Pena officially but did repeat the theme about competition just talk about the current guys on the roster at this stage," Franklin said "But we're just trying to create as much competition at every position as we possibly can That's the nature of this level of college football and I think we put ourselves in a position to have more competition in that room which means that every college basketball staff across the country has someone refreshing the portal constantly to see which players have entered their names when the NCAA’s Division I Council granted a blanket waiver for players to become immediately eligible upon transferring from a Division I school transfer portal recruiting has superseded even high school recruiting as the primary source of talent for some programs The Athletic is tracking the biggest names who are seeking new programs: the 6-foot-4 veteran can add production as a starter and ease the transition for a younger post teammate Her offensive range is mostly contained to the paint so she’s not going to stretch the floor offensively for any team Her motor (32 minutes per game this season) and rim-protection (the 2024 Big Ten defensive player of the year) make her a top target in this transfer portal cycle Fulwiley was the most difficult player to place in this list and there’s not a roster in the country that wouldn’t benefit from that version of Fulwiley But the flipside is that for every two plays or every highlight-reel type moment there’s an opposite moment that made South Carolina coaches scratch their heads This was the big reason for her up-and-down minutes There’s an argument to be made that players can lessen those mistakes with more opportunities to play through them but Fulwiley didn’t always seem to get that chance the question looms: If Fulwiley receives more minutes at a new program will the inconsistent play level out as she learns to play through mistakes she may have a chance to become more consistent MiLaysia Fulwiley behind the back and the finish!! pic.twitter.com/aNBK9zlsby — Tyler DeLuca (@TylerDeLuca) March the majority of her damage at the basket from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line 6-foot guard who can handle and distribute while hunting her own shot she’s sure to be one of the best perimeter players available in the portal Moore was often the third player mentioned among Mikayla Blakes but Moore’s impact in Nashville was significant With one season of eligibility remaining (from a medical elsewhere Smith tore her ACL seven games into the 2023-24 season and worked her way back into form this year at LSU. Toward the end of the season, she was playing her best basketball. During the NCAA Tournament, she recorded her first career back-to-back double-doubles against Florida State (20 points and it still seems like Smith is just scratching the surface She is also a solid defender who can match up well in one-on-one situations and can go extended minutes against top competition without getting into foul trouble (She averaged 2.2 fouls per game this season.) But with a third school on the horizon could the Georgia native end up closer to home Okot’s numbers look particularly impressive considering she played just 23 minutes per game — that’s some high efficiency basketball this was her first season of college basketball in the U.S after playing two seasons of college ball in Kenya It’s fair to expect a jump in her senior season now that she’s acclimated to the NCAA Okot has qualities teams simply can’t coach so seeing her on a power conference roster feels like a given Okananwa was a consummate sixth player (literally earning the award from the ACC during the 2023-24 season) But with her efficiency and defensive prowess it won’t be surprising to see her in a larger role (read: starting) at another program Okanan was one of the best defenders in the ACC finishing fifth in the conference in win shares (and highest among non-starters) so the 5-10 guard should be an obvious addition to most rosters that value both ends of the floor its 3-point shooting as three-quarters of her shots came from beyond the arc and she was an impressive 39.8 percent from there She has started all but one game of her career so she also brings experience that could help propel some younger players forward Jones was a regular starter for the Bruins as a freshman and sophomore but she was moved into a sixth-player role as a junior as a part of the Bruins’ deep nine-player rotation she’s likely looking to get heavier minutes and start (which likely wasn’t going to happen at stacked UCLA ) so it’ll be interesting to see where the California native lands she attempted seven 3-pointers per season and shot 37 percent on those attempts ranking 14th nationally in percentage for players attempting seven-plus triples With three years of eligibility remaining and skills that can build a program McMiller could be an instant impact player and a long-term investment and many of them were billed as “coach’s decisions.” She hasn’t played since early February she’s going to be on many programs’ radars but she can be a reliable three-level scorer and she’s a great defensive rebounder (more than four a game) Cunningham brings solid experience to a new roster considering she played fewer than 23 minutes a game for the Wildcats But the low minutes were a byproduct of fouling nearly four times per game and fouling out of seven games last season Cunningham received honorable mention on the All-Big 12 list this season If she can clean up the fouls and spend more time on the floor she could be an asset over the next two this season) can play on and off the ball and serves as an extension of his coach on the floor He scored 21 points in both of Drake's NCAA Tournament games against high-major competition There are some athletic concerns as he moves up a level but those are more NBA-focused than college-centric Stirtz is a good bet to be an All-American next season and a monster building block for Iowa in the most impactful overall player — unless he stays in the NBA Draft He’s a playmaker on both ends of the floor who doesn’t have much of a weakness as a frontcourt player he has fantastic hand-eye coordination that allows him to thrive This is the kind of two-way player who can be the centerpiece of a high-major roster He has an extra year of college eligibility due to the junior college ruling points and six assists while shooting 49 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3 He was a borderline All-American while carrying a fast-paced offense to the second round of the NCAA Tournament He's wildly competitive and reads the court incredibly well Any mistake that a team makes in ball-screen defense If you give him too much space coming off of a screen he'll attack the rim or find a beautiful little floater Dent has a chance to be an All-American next season Dent was one of the best point guards in college basketball this season Williams is one of the best mismatch scorers in the portal particularly when he attracts extra attention Texas Tech used him wisely in allowing to play in isolation and back down smaller defenders or pull bigger guys out to the perimeter and either shoot the 3 or drive by them His 3-point percentage dipped this year (34 percent) but he’s a 37.9 percent shooter from deep for his career It’s hard to see him thriving any more than he did in the system he was just in He battled injuries this year but had some moments of brilliance including averaging 23.7 points over his final three games in the NCAA Tournament Any team that prioritizes spacing and playing to mismatches will find Williams to be a great chess piece Former TeamArizonaHt: 7-0 Wt: 235Veesaar was a monster this season despite coming off of the bench for a majority of the court at a terrific level for someone his size I’s hard to find experienced true 7-footers in the portal who are this versatile on defense You can play drop coverage and you can play more at the level with him in ball screens he’s physical with his frame and he protects the paint Veesaar will play in the NBA at some point Veesaar was a monster this season despite coming off of the bench for a majority of the year The second-team All-American is one of the best high-volume scorers in the country He’s not an ideal fit in an analytically friendly offense because he often lives in the midrange and he’s not as good of a 3-point shooter but he’s going to get to the foul line often (drawing 6.1 fouls per 40 minutes) He’s relentless at throwing his body into defenders and is smart about using fakes and attacking vulnerable defenders He needs to be in a system that is more of a dribble-drive approach But give him freedom to attack and get to his spots Former TeamIllinoisHt: 6-9 Wt: 250A great decisions He shot 51 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free-throw line but the big number here is the 42.2 percent mark on five 3-point attempts per game He’s an all-situations shooter: off spot-ups He tops it off by being useful in ball screens as a handler and cutting sharply off the ball and he’ll likely fit best in a scheme that prioritizes off-ball movement One of the most fun breakout stars of the year in the Big Ten Former TeamGeorgiaHt: 6-5 Wt: 200DeMary is unlike just about anyone else available He's a big guard who can actually run an offense Landing him gives serious shotmaker who is very comfortable getting to his spots he is an extremely active defensive player It’s hard to find two-way contributors in the portal who can create their own shot Coward started his career at Division III and then spent two years at Eastern Washington He was an All-Big Sky selection his junior year and then followed David Riley to Washington State where he was off to a fantastic start before a shoulder injury ended his ‘24-25 season He’s a smooth three-level scorer who has put up impressive efficiency numbers throughout his career and shot 38.8 percent from 3 in just 31 percent on jumpers off the dribble and finished only 38.2 percent of his shots at the rim but he’s too trigger-happy when he sees any kind of daylight It was a troubling sign that Arkansas got significantly better when he went out with a hand injury; the Razorbacks were 0-5 in the SEC at that point and then went 8-5 the rest of the way in conference play He could be a very effective college player once his decision-making improves and maybe that progression happens as a sophomore Former TeamArizona StateHt: 6-9 Wt: 225Quaintance got to college so early that he won’t be able to declare inside the arc I wouldn’t say that he was a shutdown player but he at least plays hard and is in the right positions so that would make a ton of sense as a landing spot But big-time shooters who can do more than that tend to be very valuable It wouldn’t be a stunner if he averaged 18 points per game at some point in his next spot Rice likely just missed out on All-Big Ten honors this year but drilled 38 percent of his nearly eight 3-point attempts per game he can be a touch inefficient when he ventures into the paint and even though he’s always taken a large number of 3s this is the first advantage He can get on a heater and feed off the crowd He’s the definition of a roller coaster player He’s also the prototypical 3-and-D wing — a 39.8 percent career 3-point shooter Some opposing coaches will tell you that he can be a defensive liability “I think he is a good recovery defender,” one SEC assistant recently told me “But I don't think he's great at defending.” When engaged there’s no denying his length and switchability is an asset but he can also put it on the floor and attack He’s one of those slithery lefties with a level of unpredictability that makes him hard to have a big who can step out and shoot A league like the ACC is probably the best bet for him Two schools to watch: Georgia because Mike White originally recruited Reneau to Florida but lost him to tough shot-maker when he's on but he also was tasked with taking some absolutely wild attempts for North Dakota this year That ultimately dragged down his efficiency The key for a high-major will be finding a role for Eaglestaff that allows him to take easier shots — which will be easier when pairing him with high-level shot creators He'll have one year at high-major to show what he's capable of first-year players with the ability to both drive and find pull-up options But the decision making on some of his shots was often an adventure and he'll need to moderate that as he moves to a winning team It can also be a struggle to place pure scoring guards roughly his size in the lineup given how much they can give back on defense Cal was much better when Wilkinson was on the court because of wanted Lane: He went for 32 points and six assists in an overtime loss at Samford this past season Lane is a score-first guard who is one of the quickest guards with the basketball in the country His handle is tight and he can score at all three levels and shot an impressive 40.6 percent from 3 this season on five attempts per game He’s short but I think he has the body and quickness to level up He should fit well in McMillian’s up-tempo system He has played well against high-majors the last two seasons scoring 14 points against Auburn this past season and going for 19 points and 11 assists the year before at K-State No surprise that Bucky McMillian wanted Lane: He went for 32 points and six assists in an overtime loss at Samford this past season Former TeamTexas TechHt: 6-5Wt: like he had the yips but he moves with fluidity and always seems to find a way to get to his left hand scoring double figures in four of the five games in which he played 30-plus minutes including 20 points in a Big 12 semis loss to Arizona It’s pretty easy to imagine him becoming a consistent double-digit scorer for a high-major Overton is a smooth lefty with great positional size who can get buckets when he’s playing with confidence Former TeamBYUHt: 6-4 Wt: 200Hall began the year in the starting lineup but wasn't an ideal fit playing alongside Egor Demin so the BYU staff decided to make him a super sub in the last two-thirds of the season Hall looks like he can be a high-major starting guard He makes excellent decisions and consistently finds teammates in the right places He averaged 4.2 assists with a three-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio in 2024-25 and while the shooting numbers aren't amazing he is at least capable from behind the arc when he gets an open look Anyone looking for a genuine adult who makes good decisions at the lead guard spot should take a look at Hall as an interesting option He might not be a true all-conference player Hall began the year in the starting lineup but wasn't an ideal fit playing alongside Egor Demin Former TeamMichigan StHt: 6-2Wt: 185Holloman is a strong defender and a streaky scorer His play and his emotions can be a roller coaster but you know he’s going to play with max effort and guard He has elite speed but sometimes can over-penetrate and put up tough shots at the basket His jumper is the streakiest part of his game but he is a solid 35.6 percent from 3 for his career This is a good get for NC State because Holloman is used to winning and can help set the standard for what it looks like to play hard Holloman is a strong 5 in that he likes to pick-and-pop but he also plays with a level of physicality He’s comfortable putting the ball on the floor and is looking for contact when he does and while he’s a 35.3 percent 3-point shooter he shot only 64.6 percent at the free-throw line a surprising drop after making 76.5 percent of his free throws as a freshman at UC Irvine Welling is a good fit for Clemson in the mold his jump shot: It’s flat and not the smoothest release but that didn’t stop him from taking 3.9 3s per game On a team where he’s not the primary scorer ideally his usage would go down some and he could focus on what he does well he has the goods to be a high-major starter Council has good size for a point guard and elite quickness Former TeamPurdueHt: 6-5Wt: 205Colvin looks the part He’s an and there have been a lot of changes to Michigan’s roster this winter and spring Here’s a look at where the Wolverines stand: The spring transfer portal window is officially closed One year removed from winning a national championship the Michigan Wolverines were aggressive throughout the winter bringing in a multitude of players head coach Sherrone Moore believes can help Michigan get back to the College Football Playoff Having to replace multiple first-round picks yet again is a tough task. Plus, it is unclear what Judge Claudia Wilken will decide to do about scholarship limits in the House vs NCAA Settlement that has been put on hold twice in April Michigan has the potential to be deeper and more talented than last season Let’s get into how the Wolverines’ football roster looks after the transfer portal deadline bringing in Justice Haynes creates one of the best running back duos in college football with Jordan Marshall Michigan bolstered the offensive line by getting Brady Norton who is expected to compete for the starting left tackle position The Wolverines then found a true starting-X wide receiver in Donaven McCulley who led Indiana in receiving yards and touchdowns in 2023 Mikey Keene will compete with Bryce Underwood and Jadyn Davis for the quarterback job but will serve as a mentor at the very least Moore brought in depth at all three levels Troy Bowles is quality depth at linebacker and TJ and Tevis Metcalf both looked good in the spring game and should make an instant impact 247Sports ranks Michigan as having the 32nd transfer class, sitting less than a point behind rival Ohio State, whereas On3 ranks the Wolverines ninth Those rankings can still change with the current players in the portal but those are solid numbers with a pool of players that have extreme upside Everyone knows Underwood has the potential to be a star but so does most of Michigan’s incoming freshmen Ty Haywood and Kaden Strayhorn is a great trio of offensive linemen and the defensive backs are going to be a problem once they all arrive in Ann Arbor for fall camp Andrew Gentry and Alex Orji are the names that pop out on this list as former starters who have decided to leave Ann Arbor for other programs so going to other programs was the right decision for their careers Morris was a bit of a surprise early in the cycle and he will unfortunately miss the 2025 season with a torn ACL he suffered this offseason Doman struggled in 2024 after a stellar 2023 so transferring to Florida was a smart move as he currently hopes to find the magic he played with two seasons ago Michigan will have multiple position battles taking place throughout the summer The offensive line is starting to take form but there will be a fascinating battle at left tackle between Evan Link and another at right guard with Nathan Efobi currently the favorite The secondary is also a position of intrigue as there are a ton of quality players at both corner and safety It will be interesting to see who gets the nod to start at both cornerback and safety between the returners One position Michigan could still look to bring someone in at is wide receiver just because the portal is closed doesn’t mean players in the portal have nowhere to go; they can still sign with a school for the upcoming season It is not out of the question Moore tries to find a talented pass-catcher to pair up with what he currently has Two weeks after its season ended, the Texas women's basketball team has lost another starter A team spokesperson confirmed to the American-Statesman on Saturday that junior forward Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda has entered the transfer portal Mwenentanda spent the last three seasons with the Longhorns The news of her departure was first reported by On3 The 6-foot-2 Mwenentanda was used as both a guard and forward at Texas, and she enjoyed her best season as the Longhorns made a run to the Final Four this year She also started 15 times in the wake of forward Aaliyah Moore's knee injury Mwenentanda was briefly benched twice during her run as a starter. She scored a career-high 19 points while coming off the bench during the second round of the NCAA Tournament and she returned to the starting lineup for UT's next game Mwenentanda joins reserve guard Jordana Codio and backup center Abbie Boutilier as the Longhorns' entrants into the portal Mwenentanda and Codio were the remaining members of UT's 2022 recruiting class which lost Amina Muhammad to Oregon in the portal last year This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed triggered the security solution There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase You can email the site owner to let them know you were blocked Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page 296-pound Fely recorded 24 total tackles (nine for loss) and 5.5 sacks last season en route to second-team all-Mountain West Conference honors Fely entered the portal at the beginning of April but had a change of heart “After the process that I have gone through over the past couple weeks I am grateful for the love and support that has been shown to me and my family,” Fely wrote in a statement “After many conversations with those closest to me I have come to the conclusion that Boise State University is the place to be and I will be withdrawing my name from the transfer portal “I would like to express to you all that the culture and values at Boise State are second to none and I now realize more than ever how special this place is I will forever be grateful for coach (Spencer Danielson) my teammates and the staff at Boise State for the opportunity they are giving me to come back to the place I love Glad to be back💙🤍🧡 pic.twitter.com/cHphtw1VQE Danielson addressed Fely’s return in a video posted on X Bronco Nation, let’s welcome back Braxton! Four Cases Statewide in 2025; Three in NYC and One Rest of State All New Yorkers Urged To Ensure They Are Current With All Recommended Immunizations Launches ny.gov/measles To Support Vaccination Traducción al español Governor Kathy Hochul today launched a new web portal to support access to vaccines and public health information in the wake of measles cases in New York State The Governor joined State Health Commissioner Dr James McDonald to update New Yorkers on the cases and encouraged everyone to ensure they are current on all recommended immunizations There have been four total cases of measles in New York State so far this year three in New York City and one in Suffolk County None of the cases this year are related to each other or connected to the outbreaks in Texas and New Mexico The risk of measles to New Yorkers from these outbreaks is low “Measles doesn’t belong in the 21st century and it certainly doesn’t belong in the State of New York,” Governor Hochul said “As measles outbreaks occur at home and around the globe it’s critical that New Yorkers take the necessary steps to get vaccinated get educated and stave off the spread of this preventable disease — the safety of our communities depends on it.” The New York State Department of Health and local health departments work together to monitor cases and alert the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention All New Yorkers are urged to protect themselves by making sure they’re up to date on important “The single way to prevent measles is to be immunized In the current outbreak in the United States one in five people are being admitted to a hospital I urge all New Yorkers to ensure they are current on their measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) immunizations and immediately get vaccinated if they are not.” the current statewide vaccination rate for babies up to two years old This is the percent of children who have received at least one dose of the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccines actual vaccination coverage among school-age children is higher Individuals should receive two doses of the MMR vaccine to be protected Those who aren’t sure about their immunization status should call their local health department or health care provider Those who were born before 1957 have likely already been exposed to the virus and are immune Those born between 1957 and 1971 should check with a doctor to ensure they’ve been properly immunized as vaccines administered during that time may not have been reliable Those who travel abroad should make sure they are vaccinated for measles Babies as young as 6 months can get an MMR if they are traveling abroad The babies should get their MMRs on schedule and need a total of three MMRs The State Health Department is monitoring the situation very carefully along with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Local health departments in each county are prepared to investigate cases and distribute vaccines or other protective measures as needed NYC Health Department Acting Commissioner Dr the NYC Health department has confirmed three unrelated cases of measles in New York City Disease surveillance and outbreak response readiness is at the heart of our agency’s operations Measles is highly contagious and can be deadly We strongly encourage people who have not been vaccinated to get vaccinated and make sure your children have received the MMR (measles Vaccination not only protects the person who gets vaccinated but also contributes to community protections by helping stop the spread of the disease and keeping infants and others who can’t be vaccinated safe.” “The four reported cases of measles in New York State this year are not only concerning but also a stern reminder that we must keep our recommended immunizations up to date I want to thank Governor Hochul and Commissioner McDonald for launching a portal to provide support to health care providers who are our first line of defense when it comes to public health Measles could pose serious health risks for those who contract it and are not protected so it is critical that we follow the science and don’t fall behind on immunizations.” “The science is clear – the measles vaccine works and I appreciate Governor Hochul and State Health Commissioner McDonald’s efforts to provide New Yorkers and healthcare providers with the support and resources for this lifesaving immunization.” Misinformation around vaccines has in recent years contributed to a rise in vaccine hesitancy, declining vaccination rates and a black market for fraudulent vaccination records. The Department takes an active role in combating vaccination fraud. This includes work by the Department’s Bureau of Investigations identifying, investigating, and seeking impactful enforcement actions against those who falsify vaccine records as evidenced by several recent cases announced by the Department Combating vaccine fraud is a collective effort that includes various stakeholders responsible for community health and safety The Department works with schools to help them fulfill their responsibility of reviewing vaccination records for fraud the Department partners with the New York State Education Department local health departments and school-nurse professional organizations around this critical effort engage and support police and prosecutors statewide regarding vaccination fraud which under New York law is a felony-level criminal offense serious respiratory disease that causes rash and fever measles can reduce the immune system’s ability to fight other infections like pneumonia Serious complications of measles include hospitalization, pneumonia, brain swelling and death. Long-term serious complications can also include  subacute sclerosing panencephalitis a brain disease resulting from an earlier measles infection that can lead to permanent brain damage People who are infected with measles often get “measles immune amnesia,” which causes their immune system to lose memory to fight other infections like pneumonia Measles during pregnancy increases the risk of early labor Measles is caused by a virus that is spread by coughing or sneezing into the air Individuals can catch the disease by breathing in the virus or by touching a contaminated surface The incubation period for measles is up to 21 days People who are exposed to measles should quarantine 21 days after exposure and those who test positive should isolate until four days after the rash appears Symptoms for measles can include the following: and up to 21 days after a measles infection A person with measles can pass it to others as soon as four days before a rash appears and as late as four days after the rash appears Health care providers should report suspected measles cases to their local health department Visit the State Health Department’s dedicated measles website for information about the measles, immunization data and information for providers The State Health Department has also launched a new Global Health Update Report webpage to keep New Yorkers informed of ongoing and emerging infectious disease outbreaks Visit the CDC website for information about the measles vaccine but names are still surfacing in the ensuing days The latest name that has officially surfaced in the portal hails from a program with a tumultuous offseason in the Stanford Cardinal Following the March firing of head coach Troy Taylor who was revealed to have "bullied and belittled female athletic staffers," the program has been hit hard by players leaving the portal In addition to losing the team's best pass rusher, David Bailey (Texas Tech), the Cardinal have seen departures from corner Julian Neal (Arkansas), wide receiver Emmett Mosley (Texas) and quarterback Bear Bachmeier (undecided) it was revealed that Bachmeier's older brother would also be entering his name into the transfer portal As confirmed by On3's Pete Nakos the older Bachmeier brother entered with a "do not contact" tag which likely means he has a destination in mind Stanford Cardinal wide receiver Tiger Bachmeier (24) Bachmeier recorded 46 catches for 476 yards and two touchdowns while also adding a rushing touchdown and a punt return touchdown Bachmeier chose Stanford over programs such as Arizona State Colorado and Boise State where his older brother Hank started his career it is unclear if he and his younger brother Bear are a package deal or plan to transfer to different programs it is worth noting that the Cardinal have now lost a total of 26 players to the portal this offseason With Frank Reich serving as the interim head coach this season the program will look for a permanent solution at head coach after the year there may not be a school in college football with a tougher year ahead of them than Stanford The Cardinal have gone 3-9 for four seasons in a row bringing on another wild period of transfer transactions across college football Underclassmen players have from April 16-25 to make their final decision on whether they're staying put or playing elsewhere More than 2,100 FBS scholarship players have already entered the portal this offseason Teams have invested more money than ever before to re-sign and retain their top players for 2025 We're about to find out if those efforts paid off Here are five things to watch once the portal is officially open for business next week April 7 had been circled on the calendars of coaching staffs across the country The date of the final approval hearing for the House settlement loomed large this offseason as athletic directors coaches and general managers prepared for the arrival of the new era of revenue sharing in college athletics Their expectation all along has been that if or when U.S District Judge Claudia Wilken grants final approval of the terms of the $2.8 billion legal settlement the newly established $20.5 million cap for paying student-athletes in 2025-26 officially goes into effect Deals struck after that date would be subject to the new standards and scrutiny established by the settlement "Everybody's on pins and needles," Georgia coach Kirby Smart told reporters last week "because we don't know exactly what's going to come out of this." Wilken declined to provide final approval of a deal Monday and directed attorneys for the NCAA and plaintiffs to address a short list of lingering concerns within one week If final approval of the settlement is still several weeks away it's going to impact the spring portal window The clock is ticking for NIL collectives to make one more big spend on player acquisition and retention before they enter the new world where all third-party NIL deals exceeding $600 must be reported and must be "fair-market value" for legitimate business purposes to not count toward the rev-share cap Texas Tech signed Stanford transfer outside linebacker David Bailey, the top player available ahead of the spring portal window, Friday night -- another strong addition to its remarkable portal haul Bailey is expected to earn more than $1 million this season and has already joined the team for spring practice It's no surprise that this spend-it-while-you-can period has proved to be extremely profitable for top college basketball players who hit the portal in March and April But will it also bring a windfall for football players looking to test the spring portal "What's going on in basketball and football now is people are trying to beat a date," Smart said Graduate transfers who are leaning toward testing the portal would be wise to go in now if they're looking to maximize their value Power 4 programs know they'll have to pay a steep premium if they're looking to add proven talent this spring and they planned ahead for this by trying to resolve their roster needs in December and January many are not looking to add or spend much in this upcoming spring window unless they encounter unexpected attrition While the settlement still awaits final approval GMs and recruiting staffers continue to operate under the assumption the $20.5 million salary cap for athletic departments in 2025-26 will exist will teams with College Football Playoff ambitions quickly identify methods for circumventing the cap Several staffers surveyed by ESPN say the answer to that question depends on the effectiveness of the new enforcement arm, and there's plenty of skepticism among coaches and ADs on that topic it's going to be hard to use the money even if you have it," one SEC DPP said and the first time they get sued it doesn't hold up Which teams with national championship ambitions still have some work to do during the upcoming portal window As these teams start to wrap up spring practice, coaches are going to have a much better sense of which returning players are ready to step up and which position groups still need help. Here are six teams in ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25 that could be looking for portal pickups over the next few weeks Coach Ryan Day acknowledged in March it was a bit more challenging to fill Ohio State's roster needs in the winter portal window while their season was still going on Extending the season into late January puts a staff in a tough spot with recruiting and official visits and the Buckeyes inked just six transfers in the first window They'll be looking for experienced depth or younger players with upside to fill out their D-line room Coach Steve Sarkisian has done a masterful job of landing high-impact playmakers at wide receiver via the portal during his tenure in Austin He might need to do it again this spring to help boost a Texas receiving corps that could use some help and should be a contender for the best available options this spring Sarkisian said Tuesday he'll also be looking for additions at tight end and on the defensive line to get the Longhorns' depth back to where it needs to be It's no secret that Penn State is going to be extremely competitive for starter-caliber wide receivers in the spring portal "We all know we need wide receiver help," Kraft told reporters in February In last year's spring portal cycle, only six wide receivers hit the market who ended up starting nine or more games for Power 4 programs. One was former Penn State receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith who earned second-team All-SEC honors after putting up 981 receiving yards and eight TDs at Auburn High-impact wideouts will probably be scarce and will certainly be pricey but they might be the only thing this offense is missing to chase championships in 2025 earned the most playing time last season among Georgia's returning edge defenders but has played just 268 career snaps Georgia could also be in the market for a No. 2 running back. There's plenty of confidence in Nate Frazier and the next step he's about to take as a sophomore after he rushed for a team-high 671 yards and 8 touchdowns on 5 yards per carry last season but don't be surprised if Georgia goes looking for a veteran back to complement their rising star This was a need position for LSU going into last year's spring portal window after losing three NFL draft picks and the Tigers competed for several of the top players on the market coach Brian Kelly generated a lot of attention for saying "We're not in the market of buying players." The Tigers were certainly in that market in December and assembled arguably the No But can they still go find a premier defensive tackle for 2025 Last year, the Tigers missed on the big names and ended up with Wisconsin transfer Gio Paez, who did start all 13 games. They brought in massive Texas transfer Sydir Mitchell in December but he played only 49 snaps over two seasons It'll be interesting to see how new defensive line coach Kyle Williams evaluates his returning talent in spring ball If a proven performer and a clear upgrade hits the market in April Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer has a lot of belief in Cuevas who followed this staff from Seattle to Tuscaloosa and the staff already brought in two tight ends via the portal this offseason Hundreds of players will enter the portal this spring in search of better opportunities elsewhere But not all of them are actually trying to transfer The threat of transferring has been a powerful bargaining chip for players and their agents even more so when it's late April or early May and there aren't a ton of quality replacements available Personnel staffers are bracing for big demands at the portal deadline "I think we'll see the beginning of guys testing the market," one Big Ten staffer predicted "I think we'll see a lot of guys enter and see a lot of guys go back to their original spot after seeing what else was out there." we've seen 187 FBS scholarship players enter the transfer portal and eventually decide to withdraw and stay put That's almost 8% of all scholarship portal entries since August the bigger names on that list are players at programs going through coaching changes They put their name in to see what's out there but ultimately were persuaded by the new coaching staff to come back But there were also several examples in December of blue-chip freshmen who threatened to transfer -- and even announced plans to transfer -- but never entered the portal Because they got what they were looking for from their current team these deals between agents and GMs are going to get worked out before the player hits the market Players can lose some leverage in negotiating with their current program once they've officially entered the portal especially if they don't already have clear options lined up So don't be surprised if there's another round of rumors this spring about big-name players potentially leaving that never come to fruition The Power 4 teams that have the money are going to do what it takes to keep the players who matter West Virginia removed 22 football players from its roster Monday as it prepares to cut down to the expected 105-man roster limit for the 2025 season Among the players cut were two senior transfers and five true freshmen who just joined the program this offseason The departing group was a mix of scholarship and walk-on players many of them redshirt freshmen with limited playing experience Coach Rich Rodriguez has consistently expressed his frustration with the 105-man limit since taking over the program in December and warned that roster cuts were coming Dropping 22 from the roster puts West Virginia at 104 players for next season because Rodriguez needs room to add a lot more talent in the spring portal window "We need to get some O-linemen and D-linemen," Rodriguez said last month I made sure the kicker today -- he had been pretty good We're going to see more attrition in the weeks ahead as schools with strong walk-on programs and first-year coaches reckon with the impending roster limits But there might be good news on the way following the Monday settlement hearing Wilken pushed back on the roster limit requirement during the hearing asking lawyers to consider a phased approach to reducing roster sizes "My idea there is to grandfather in a group of rostered people," Wilken said College football coaches would absolutely support grandfathering in current players and avoiding harsh post-spring roster cuts They're going to need clarity on this matter as soon as possible so they can make decisions on who's staying and who's leaving "We've got to remove a lot of kids from the program and it sucks," Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said last week "There's a lot of kids that want to be here want to stay here that we can't have in the program It's frustrating to me because I don't understand why the number came of 105 Why didn't we kind of slowly bring it down we saw 288 scholarship players transfer to Power 4 programs Here's what we can we learn from that group and the successes and struggles they encountered during the 2024 season only 21% started more than six games last season and 55% earned zero starts these transfers get brought in and paid to help resolve depth chart needs but they're also starting from a disadvantaged position by missing out on spring practice But the data clearly suggests there are no guarantees when it comes to players immediately making significant contributions A total of 165 spring transfers (57%) ended up playing fewer snaps in 2024 than they did at their previous school and 129 ended up playing fewer than 100 snaps last season Among the 68 Group of 5 players who transferred to join Power 4 rosters 74% saw less playing time in 2024 and half of them did not start a game for their new team Only 12 of these G5 players who transferred up started more than six games last season and just nine of the 41 FCS-to-P4 transfers earned more than six starts 38 of these 288 transfers (13%) went back into the portal to see if they could have better luck elsewhere Waiting until the spring portal to make a move can be risky Coaching staff members can say all the right things during the recruiting process but in truth they might just be looking for backups and developmental depth all the money being thrown around for portal pickups might make those decisions worthwhile regardless of playing time As one staffer at a G5 school summed it up "If you are getting $30,000 and hear $300,000
