we are committed to fostering talent across geographies
Stellantis attracts top talent wherever it resides
bolstering the ingenuity and diversity it takes to keep up with innovation and lead the way the world moves
In this “Tech Talent” series, we get one-on-ones with talented young leaders from our top hubs across the globe about how they are delivering on our software-driven strategy and bringing us closer to making Stellantis the best place to work in the automotive industry.
The Recife Technology Hub in Brazil is a global leader in producing software for engine control modules and transmissions that improve energy efficiency and fuel consumption while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The Hub’s activities also encompass body electronics, virtual engineering and software quality.
In a conversation with Sarah Yasmini, a young engineer and software development analyst at the Recife Hub, she shared why she chose this professional path and the important role the Hub plays in advancing women’s careers.
Can you tell us about your work at the Recife Technology Hub?
Sarah: This is an exciting job indeed. I normally work on several different projects at the same time, and I am glad that I can handle them all well, although it is challenging!
The work in propulsion systems is fantastic and really excites me, as I think about how we are developing today what we will deliver to our customers in the future. We are working on very disruptive ideas connected to electrification, aimed at maintaining Stellantis’ position as a leader in the industry and in sustainable mobility.
Today, we are working on exciting projects for our future, especially the Bio-Hybrid, which is going to take Stellantis to the next level in our region and is aligned with our Value pillar, “We care for the future”. There is nothing more important than caring for the future of our planet and the next generations.
How did you get here? Tell us more about your career.
Working with propulsion systems was particularly fulfilling for me. It demanded dedication from both me and my team, which I thrive on! It was an amazing and enriching experience as it allowed me to engage with global teams and learn new things every day.
Can you tell us why the Technology Hub in Recife is attractive for young, new talent?
Sarah: I think the Hub is an attractive place for top talent for several reasons but three things in particular stand out for me. First, we work with innovative technologies that directly contribute to the development of software for our exceptional vehicles. It’s immensely rewarding. Knowing that our work influences customer satisfaction gives us pride to say, “I was part of this project.”
The third reason is that Porto Digital – the technology park where our Hub is located – is a vibrant tech hub with 400 companies and 18,000 employees, boasting a blend of historic charm and modern amenities. Working amidst such surroundings not only inspires creativity but also fosters collaborations with colleagues who share our passion.
Do you think this is a job that should attract more women?
Sarah: Absolutely. The perception that the automotive industry is exclusively for men is outdated. Women also have a passion for cars, technology and a fulfilling career, making this field a perfect fit for them.
Diversity fuels innovation and helps Stellantis maintain its leadership in South America which is a highly competitive market. It’s one of the many reasons why this Company is a great place to work and a fantastic place to build a career.

The Brazilian government said it would put $10.6 million into a public-private push to expand international flights
It said Brazil's northeast region is a primary focus of the program
vibrant culture and exquisite cuisine" that can compete with the Caribbean
The initiative builds on an $800,000 pilot program from 2024 and is a joint effort by Embratur
According to tourism minister Silvio Costa Filho
this is the first time Brazil has implemented a comprehensive program to attract international flights
"The government's goal is to strengthen international tourism in Brazil
boost our economy and create opportunities," he said
The program will be rolled out in phases throughout next year
beginning in late January with a call for proposals focused on regular international flights to Northeast Brazil
Brazil will launch a call for charter flights
followed by a focus on sub-regional domestic flights in the second half of the year
The goal is to generate at least 500,000 new international seats in the upcoming years
Brazil said this year's pilot program resulted in a 20% increase in issued airline tickets from overseas markets and an economic return of $4.72 for every 20 cents invested
reopens the Estádio da Oficina Francisco Brennand and
fulfills the role for which its founder had intended it almost 20 years ago: to be a “space for temporary exhibitions and cultural events”
If Francisco wanted to open his citadel to other creators
it was precisely from listening to this generous invitation that the work that is now installed here emerged. One of its seeds was the encounter of the artist from Rio de Janeiro with Peixe-folha (1986)
Confronted with the image of a wavy and hybrid animal – half snake
serpentine shapes abound in the work of this sculptor whose central material is not the density of clay
has fascinated the artist for its constituent voids
hollow stitches that produce moldable and permeable forms
Ernesto Neto has created sculptures pregnant with air that
spirals and reverses that take the porosity between bodies and topologies as an aesthetic and political horizon.Deeply touched by the sinuous movements that surround us
since the 1990s the artist has been challenging the lines and right angles of modern Western rationality
exercising the undoing of the many culturally established dichotomies
such as the binomials “me/us” and “inside/outside”
his sculptures and installations have acted as devices of contact
they are not autonomous pieces to be contemplated from a distance
but situations in time and space that are intended to be inhabited
inundated by the centrality of fluids in his poetic research
imbued with the presence of the Capibaribe in the city of Recife and taken by the bodily memory of the drag of the water as we walk through it
Neto aimed at that creature with many legs by Brennand
As in Cão sem plumas(1950) - an iconic poem about the Capibaribe River in which João Cabral de Melo Neto says of the river that “Its waters flowed (…) with the waves / dense and warm / of a snake” - Ernesto envisioned a sculpture stretching along the length of the stadium
winding its body with the curves of its body as if it were a colorful boa constrictor; crossing its architecture as if it were traveling along a curvilinear river course
A sculpture-path that calls us to movement
since walking is inherent and constitutive to it.CapiDançaBaribéNois itself crossed the Capibaribe River
implying its installation-like form to its process of formation as a rite
Caiara Park (Iputinga) and the Rio NGO (Mata da Várzea) to honor
the fight for environmental preservation and education
the sculpture traveled along the mighty and muddy river
from Marco Zero to Oficina Francisco Brennand
in a crossing driven by the movement of the Rivus group and the drumming of master Rodrigo Scofield
of the Maracatu Real da Várzea and the Coco de Duas group
the animal ー crocheted from strips of calico and cotton voile and
ritually filled with dry leaves ー became a collective prayer for the health of the Capibaribe
of societies and of the relationships between humans and non-humans: existences deeply connected to each other from the waters that constitute us inextricably.Along its riverine path, CapiDançaBaribéNois came across the garbage and sewage that leaks not only from wealthy homes or from the favelas located on the metropolitan banks of the Capibaribe
but also from the pollution that accumulates along its course from the Pernambuco hinterland
into whose waters industrial waste of all kinds is dumped
the River faces social and environmental violence that equally affects millions of people who are structurally unable to access their constitutional rights to dignity and
to the fullness of life.Sculpting-praying the Capibaribe is
In doing so, CapiDançaBaribéNois joins initiatives such as Inciti – Research and Innovation for Cities (UFPE) and projects such as Acalanto (in the Detran community) and Iputinga Sociocultural
which graffitied the dreamed-of shapes and colors of a clean
navigable river on the walls of the stadium
Organizations that have fought not only for the Capibaribe
the collective to which the installation’s sonorous title refers
The artist Libélula also painted the walls of the space
making present a water entity.Touched by the magic of the waters
by the strength of the work of so many people and social movements
as well as by the vivacity of a small tree that – originating from the source of the river
in the municipality of Poção – has landed like its navel to the sound of Agda's words, CapiDançaBaribéNois evokes the abundance of life
the renaturalization of the Capibaribe and the fruits that are to come: such as the possibility that
we will be able to routinely reach the Oficina Francisco Brennand guided by the silent dance of its vigorous waters

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached an agreement with Sport Recife to sign Pedro Lima
The 17-year-old had been heavily linked with a host of top clubs, most prominently Chelsea
who had been pursuing a deal for the right-back
But Wolves have managed to strike a deal with Sport Recife for Lima in what would represent a major coup for the club
Personal terms are in place on a five-year contract that includes the option to extend by a further 12 months
If all goes to plan he would arrive at Wolves on July 1 to undergo a medical and complete the proposed move
A Sport Recife statement read: “Sport Club do Recife announces that it has signed a binding agreement to transfer the economic and federative rights of athlete Pedro Lima to Wolverhampton Wanderers
“The agreement is subject to customary conditions
including the athlete’s approval of medical examinations conducted by the English club
“President Yuri Romao and the football management committee will detail the operation in a statement when all acts related to the business have been completed.”
Chelsea had stepped up their efforts to sign Lima last week after scheduling further talks
with a view to him initially joining fellow BlueCo-owned Strasbourg
However, he is set to be Wolves’ second new signing of the summer after they completed a deal for wide player Rodrigo Gomes from Braga last week
The Athletic reported the 20-year-old Portugal youth international would move to Molineux in a €15million (£12.7m) deal on a five-year contract with the option to extend by 12 months
Lima broke into the Sport Recife first team in January 2024
and has featured eight times in Serie B this season
He has also represented Brazil at youth level and featured for the side at last year’s Under-17 World Cup

Shore Lines is a place for readers to recount an experience of personal significance that helped them connect with one small stretch of the world’s vast and varied coast
After years of living and working all over Latin America
I had learned that the locals’ comprehension—and even appreciation—of absurdity is one of the few constants across diverse cultures
But nowhere crystalized this absurdity so perfectly for me as Recife
When I first arrived in Recife to plan a summer travel program for American students
except for a few young men wearing jeans and sneakers and lounging around
Soon I understood why: swimming off Recife’s shores is strongly discouraged
Recife’s frequency of fatal shark attacks is one of the highest in the world. Since 1992, sharks have attacked 59 people in the area; 40 percent of the victims died
Mangroves filter water from the rivers around which Recife is built
but they have been cut gradually since the 1500s
so more and more polluted water has flowed into the Atlantic—particularly in the 20th and 21st centuries
The pollution is thought to attract sharks and kill shark prey
Development has also disrupted the surrounding reef ecosystem—attacks spiked after the nearby Port of Suape started working at full capacity in 1992
first for settlements and then for tourism
the people of Recife have developed and manicured their beautiful beaches yet
I was well versed in Latin America’s paradoxes
I met Costa Rican coffee growers who couldn’t afford their own crop and drank instant coffee instead
I learned that the government hired hundreds of female traffic cops thinking they would be less corrupt than men—but drivers simply ran over the women
Latin Americans try to laugh at these ironies
But in Recife, locals aren’t laughing. Frustrated by the attacks, they’re building underwater nets and lines and educating beachgoers with a person dressed in a shark costume
Recife’s shark-ridden beaches struck me as the most darkly poignant example of the irony woven through the Latin American identity
But it also showed me the relentless optimism particular to Brazil: our predecessors might have made things bad

we met Pedro Monteiro at the Economics Library at the School of Business
Economics and Law—a place he greatly appreciates
– I have been very happy to exchange ideas with the community here at the university because I think there's great research being done
It has been generative for me and I hope also for colleagues here
Pedro Monteiro emphasizes the fundamental importance of an organization’s ability to utilize knowledge
as it can make the difference between being more or less competitive or having more or less reliable processes
Knowledge is described as the fuel that keeps organizations functioning
but there are even stronger reasons why knowledge and expertise matter
Recently, Pedro Monteiro published an article in MIT Sloan Management Review: How Not to Organize In-House Experts: Lessons From Boeing. The crashes of two Boeing 737 Max planes tragically claimed 346 lives and led aviation authorities worldwide to ground the aircraft
This event highlighted critical failures in managing expertise
an area Pedro Monteiro examines in his research
– The investigations suggest that an inability to manage expertise properly resulted in faulty plane designs
– I think that it's an unfortunate but important reminder that getting expertise right can mean the difference between having reliable processes or catastrophic failures
Pedro Monteiro also explores how bureaucratic structures influence organizations
Pedro Monteiro emphasizes an organizational structure characterized by clear roles
focusing on professionalism and goal prioritization
rather than the common understanding of the term
His research examines both the strengths and weaknesses of bureaucracy
it is well understood that bureaucracy plays a crucial role
– What I found is that it’s not so much the question of whether it is bureaucratic or not
but how bureaucratic it is—meaning how the structures are designed
– Then that can actually support collaboration
it’s important to understand how these systems evolve
and what impact that may have on things we treasure
he notes that bureaucratic organizations can also become dysfunctional
– That's what we usually mean when we talk about bureaucracy in the popular sense
or complicated processes that confuse people
Pedro Monteiro is dedicated to making research accessible to audiences beyond academia. As the co-founder of the Talking About Organizations Podcast
he shares insights about the importance of effective communication
– Organizational studies is quite a small field but I think that's not always well known and understood
I think it’s important to showcase to people that such ideas exist
Pedro Monteiro discusses his podcast and the importance of research communication by independent institutions
Pedro Monteiro sheds light on the organizational systems that shape our modern world
driven by a strong desire to share the findings of his research
– My aim is to help organizations navigate complexity while fostering accountability and adaptability

Recife is one of the largest metropolitan areas in Brazil
the city's vast skyline sprawling to the shore
It's also one of the world's most notorious shark haunts
For the past several months, Daniel Botelho has attempted to illustrate the urban Recife sharks with a single image
while on a long-term assignment for National Geographic
Blacktip shark breaks surface just 50 meters beyond skyline of Recife; photo by ©Daniel Botelho
that his editor did not believe it could be completed
The editor wanted a split-level image that showed the shark beneath the surface and the nearby skyline above the surface
a Brazilian who has traveled the world photographing sharks
after about 30 shooting days and more than 200 hours in the water
The image atop this post is that of a large blacktip shark that buzzed Botelho for the briefest of moments
allowing time only to frame and snap two quick shots
The second image also accompanies this post
"The shark is only 50 meters from the shore," Botelho said
in the background of that photo.'"
National Geographic features the image in its April issue in Brazil and Latin America
Recife is in the state of Pernambuco. Over the years, sharks have attacked at least 55 people, killing at least 16
and Botelho said that three people were killed by sharks off Recife last year
National Geographic's story focuses on the recent emergence of Recife as a major shark-attack hot spot
But Botelho was not daunted in trying to capture the perfect image
He describes himself as a shark whisperer and said his assignment represented "a dream and a challenge
diving and interacting with sharks in a place where people were dying."
but instead followed fishermen and spear fishermen
knowing that those activities attract sharks
But the murky water and swiftness of the predators presented such challenges that Botelho
"On the final last day I was almost giving up and feeling sad when a fisherman fought a fish at the bottom," Botelho said
"I was on the surface when I saw the guy coming up with the fish and a shark came following him for the catch
and I knew the shark would be looking for the fish."
