received extra aging it means the cigars were aged for at least one year after rolling At the 2025 PCA Convention & Trade Show Villiger Cigars North America will show off the new Villiger 1888 Gran Reserva a new limited edition box-pressed 6 x 54 toro it uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over an Ecuadorian habano binder and fillers from Nicaragua The Gran Reserva part of the name is a classification given by Villiger that means that all of the tobaccos used were aged for at least two years in bales before the cigars were rolled The cigars themselves were rolled and then aged for an additional year at Villiger de Nicaragua this appears to be an all-new blend and not simply an existing blend that has received extra age Each cigar will have an MSRP of $22 and production is limited to 1,000 boxes of 10 cigars the Villiger 1888 Gran Reserva is medium-full in strength and has notes of leather It will be shown off to retailers during the 2025 PCA Convention & Trade Show which takes place April 12-14 in New Orleans Villiger expects the cigars to ship in May I am an editor and co-founder of halfwheel.com/Rueda Media I previously co-founded and published TheCigarFeed I have written each of her field visits: grandmothers whose well-worn recipes trace back up the family tree and live on as the foundation of modern Mexican cuisine In a country with proud indigenous origins blended with Spanish colonial rule food is a marker of legacy that grows more potent as it passes through generations José Cuervo was an agave farmer who first purchased his own land to grow agave in 1758 In 1795 the King of Spain gave his grandson the first license to distill agave wine José Cuervo is led by the 11th generation of the Cuervo family The ingredients of Mexican gastronomy are as manifold as the country’s regions: blue agave cultivated in Jalisco crickets transformed in Oaxaca from critter to delicacy these components are the stars of their homeland hallmarks of a topographic patchwork that goes from tropical jungle to cool desert expanse When combined in a kitchen like Brooklyn’s One MICHELIN Star Oxomoco known for expertly experimenting with geography the ingredients become NJ\r\nMonte Velho Reserva Red 2022 | SRP: $18.00 cultivamos.com/ During the TPE 2024 trade show, Altadis U.S.A. showed off the latest addition to its Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua line named Midnight Twist While the new variant is a Nicaraguan puro and uses the same internal blend as the regular Reserva Real Nicaragua line each Midnight Twist is covered with two different wrappers that are applied in a way so that they produce contrasting stripes designed to be like a barber’s pole There are two different regular production sizes of Midnight Twist: As is the case with the Reserva Real Nicaragua the Midnight Twist cigars are produced at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A. and boxes started shipping to retailers in March the company introduced the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Twisted Love Story which was a barberpole extension to the regular Reserva Real the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua Midnight Twist Love Story is covered in two different wrappers—very dark brown and a slightly lighter muddy brown—arranged in a distinctive barber pole pattern The darker wrapper has a bit more tooth to it than the lighter wrapper but a small amount of oil is present on both leaves and all three cigars are nicely firm when squeezed Aromas from those wrappers are led by a faint but sweet cloves note Scents from the feet are extremely similar to what I noted on the wrappers due to the small opening but I do notice a new citrus peel note on two of the three cigars the cold draws feature strong flavors of sweet cedar Two of the three cigars start off a bit harsh punctuated with similar flavors of bitter espresso a slight metallic note on the finish and a significant amount of spice on my tongue main flavors of creamy cedar and powdery cocoa nibs quickly take over the profile of all three cigars There is a touch of floral sweetness present on retrohale along with some light black pepper although the sweetness is more pronounced on the second cigar while the first cigar has noticeably more pepper Flavor ends the first third at medium-full the body is halfway between mild and medium and the strength hits a point just under medium The burn lines are not exactly razor sharp though they are far from needing any sort of help and there are no issues whatsoever with the draws or the smoke production for all three cigars While the metallic note on the finish is long gone by the start of the second third a toasted sourdough bread note joins the creamy cedar replacing the cocoa nibs note at the top of the profile chalk and gritty earth show up at various points and while there is about the same amount of black pepper on the retrohale compared to the first third the sweetness has morphed into a rich fudge-like chocolate note while the body increases to just under medium and the strength lands at a solid medium My second and third cigars run into minor burn issues that need correcting—one needs one correction the other needs two—but the draws continue to be excellent and there is plenty of smoke coming from the feet The main flavors shift again during the final third with a combination of saltine crackers and creamy cedar taking over the profile leather tack and powdery cocoa nibs flit in and out while there is slightly more of both the black pepper and the fudge sweetness on the retrohale but the body increases enough to hit a solid medium draws and smoke production—have no issues at all until I am done with each cigar I have always been a fan of smaller figurado vitolas so I was looking forward to reviewing the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua Midnight Twist Love Story since I saw it on my list While the profile starts out a bit rough on two of the cigars—with plenty of spice some metallic notes on the finish and a slight harshness—they both recovered quickly and became not only creamier but also quite a bit more complex in the final two-thirds There were some minor burn issues on two of the cigars the Midnight Twist Love Story is a very enjoyable blend in an interesting vitola I have worn many hats in my life up to this point: I started out as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram then transitioned to photographing weddings—both internationally and in the U.S.—for more than a decade After realizing that there was a need for a cigar website containing better photographs and more in-depth information about each release SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars and it was one of the predecessors to halfwheel Julio Eiroa is best known for his use of corojo-seed tobaccos but for JRE Tobacco Co.’s next release he’s turning to a different Cuban seed: pinareño At next month’s 2025 PCA Convention & Trade Show will show off the new Aladino 85 Aniversario Reserva a cigar that was created for his 85th birthday It is a blend made entirely of pinareño-seed tobaccos grown in Honduras The pinareño was brought to Honduras by Tino Agurdin in 1960 but it was known for smaller yields and being more delicate and disease-prone than corojo The company describes the blend as mild to medium is launching the Aladino 85 Aniversario Reserva in two vitolas: though retailers will only be able to order up to four boxes per vitola per month The boxes are yellow and feature a 1961 Buick, a car owned by Julio says it expects to begin shipping the Aladino 85 Aniversario Reserva at the conclusion of the 2025 PCA Convention & Trade Show Upmann has been selected as the brand for a Gran Reserva release While there are cigars that are more expensive than Gran Reservas the series takes a regular production Cuban cigar from one of Habanos S.A.’s main brands and gives it special treatment Upmann Magnum 50 Gran Reserva Cosecha 2019 uses tobacco entirely from the 2019 harvest in the Vuelta Abajo region of Pinar del Río and the cigars are aged longer than regular production releases the cigars receive a special black-and-gold secondary band to denote they are not the same as a regular Mag 50 there will be 5,000 numbered 15-count boxes and also three-count boxes Pricing and a release date have not yet been announced selects one regular production cigar to be part of the Gran Reserva or Reserva program which means the cigars use aged tobacco and are packaged in special boxes whereas odd years means a Gran Reserva is chosen Those years don’t necessarily correspond to when the cigars will be released A Reserva means the tobacco was aged for at least three years whereas the Gran Reservas used tobacco that is at least five-years-old whereas Gran Reservas are packaged in boxes of 15 cigars each release is limited to 5,000 boxes—plus the three-count boxes—though there have been years when there were seemingly fewer cigars released than the 5,000 box number it was believed that the cigars chosen needed to come from Cohiba these brands were known as “global brands,” though Habanos S.A has since abandoned that brand classification Bolívar was selected as the Reserva release putting an end to the global brand requirement While the Reserva program started in 2003—though the modern program really didn’t start until 2005—the Gran Reservas didn’t debut until 2009 This story is part of halfwheel’s coverage of the Festival del Habano XXV, the 2025 edition of Cuba’s annual cigar festival. For more coverage of the festival, click here Late last year, Viaje announced it was bringing back a couple of cigars that had not been seen since 2011 perhaps the longest time between two Viaje releases in the company’s history: the Viaje Oro Reserva (VOR) Double Torpedo and Viaje Platino Reserva (VPR) Double Torpedo The Oro and Platino were once the company’s core lines sold to retailers when stores placed an order the VOR and VPR versions of those cigars were limited box-pressed versions of the blends with aged ligero tobaccos added While Viaje did not respond to an email seeking details about what both of the new cigars are visually similar to the original releases: 5 3/4 x 52 box-pressed perfectos that are more or less symmetrical with feet that are fully pointed like the top of a belicoso Viaje disclosed both blends as Nicaraguan puros with Corojo 99 wrappers just a 50-cent increase from the price in 2011 The original versions of both cigars were packaged in 25-count boxes and were made at Raíces Cubanas in Honduras There have now been five different releases in the Viaje Platino Reserva line There have been a total of four different Viaje Oro/Platino Reserva Double Torpedo releases Here is what I wrote in my original review of the Platino Reserva Double Torpedo way back in 2011: As with last year’s release these are a hit in my opinion they taste exactly like what they are—Viajes with aged tobacco They have all of the characteristics of their core line counterparts but are just that much more flavorful and smooth a very complex and balanced cigar all the way through and a vitola that you can’t help but love These won’t last long so when they come out I would jump on them Editor’s Note: This is one of the rare cases when we are doing a redux review of a new version of a cigar and not of an aged sample of a cigar we have already reviewed long time since I smoked the last Viaje Platino Reserva Double Torpedo much too long for me to remember about the wrapper of the cigars in my first review but the one covering this cigar is a cinnamon brown color with a reddish tint that is smooth to the touch The ends on the cap and foot are quite pointy and the cigar is just short of rock hard when squeezed Sweet bread and creamy woodiness lead the aromas from the wrapper scents from the foot are extremely similar to the ones emanating from the wrapper although I do notice a bit more woodiness that now reminds me of creamy cedar Wheat bread is the first thing I taste on the cold draw The draw is a bit tight for the first few puffs—not unusual at all for a cigar with a perfecto foot—but after six puffs— quicker than I thought I would—I start getting some great airflow Anise and earth combined with some light spice on my tongue start the cigar out but the main flavors of popcorn—sans salt—and coffee beans quickly take over and remain at the top of the profile through the first half barnyard and a touch of chalk flit in and out while the retrohale features a combination of black pepper and sweetness that makes me think of Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies while the body hits a point just under the medium mark and the strength lands at a solid medium plenty of dense smoke and a burn line that—while not quite razor sharp—is nowhere close to needing a correction While the second half of the cigar features the same unsalted popcorn flavor at the top of the profile the coffee beans note from the first third has been replaced by a much stronger creamy peanut flavor and although a lemongrass flavor shows up on the finish periodically There is a bit more spice on my tongue and black pepper on the retrohale but the Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pie sweetness has morphed into more of a semi-sweet chocolate chip flavor that pairs nicely with the main flavors in the profile but the body hits a solid medium and the strength increases to land at meidum-plus The construction continues to be excellent in all aspects copious smoke production and great draw all work together in harmony until I put the nub down after one hour and 52 minutes of smoking time the new Viaje Platino Reserva Double Torpedo leaves nothing on the table when it comes to just about every aspect with a great transition right around the time the second half begins and the fact that I tasted a Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pie sweetness on the retrohale—something I don’t think I have ever noted in one of my reviews before—is just icing on the cake and the newest Platino Reserva Double Torpedo ends up being an extremely enjoyable cigar on just about every level this year’s new release for the American market from Patoro will not be a new cigar the Swiss company will begin selling one of its existing Gran Añeo Reserva vitolas for the first time in the U.S it’s the Patoro Gran Añejo Reserva Perfecto it uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed wrapper over a Dominican binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic it is made at De Los Reyes in the Dominican Republic This vitola has been offered in Europe for more than a decade The MSRP is set at $25 per cigar and it will be offered in both boxes of 20 and 50 Patoro will show off the cigar at the 2025 PCA Convention & Trade Show The company says the cigar will ship to stores immediately following the trade show the company plans on increasing the prices of its cigars by 8 percent The change will go into effect at the start of the trade show This is the second year in a row that Patoro has added a Gran Añejo Reserva in a perfecto vitola for the American market, though last year’s release was a 4 x 44 petit perfecto El Septimo will launch a limited edition cigar The new El Septimo Doble Gran Reserva is a 6 x 52 toro that uses an Ecuadorian wrapper over a Dominican binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic The company says that all of the tobacco used is aged between 7-10 years Each cigar will have an MSRP of $125 and production is limited to 1,000 boxes of 14 cigars told halfwheel that it will ship to stores in May She added that it would be limited to the company’s top 50 accounts we have harnessed the collective wisdom of global experts and fused it with groundbreaking scientific techniques in fermentation process to create an experience that transcends tradition,” said Zaya Younan “This cigar is a living testament to our passion for innovation and our unwavering commitment to excellence and producing the best cigars in the world.” The company says that more than 60 people were consulted to finalize this blend the brand did not have a noticeable presence in the U.S Younan acquired the brand and El Septimo became much more focused on the American market the company’s newest cigar took 10 years to make It’s the Curivari Gran Reserva Edición 2025 which is made using aged Nicaraguan tobacco It would also appear to be incredibly limited The company says that there will be just 1,000 boxes made between the five vitolas: the company says that it will offer retailers who place orders during the 2025 PCA Convention & Trade Show No Cuban cigar commands more attention than a Cohiba, and in 11 days the Cohiba Espléndidos Gran Reserva Cosecha 2017 will go on sale in Switzerland with an extremely high price tag of 534 Swiss francs, which translates to $623. In terms of cigars, it’s about as expensive as they get and the box price for a full box in Swiss markets will be 8,010 Swiss francs October 22 is the official launch date for Swiss Casa del Habano stores followed by a release on October 29th at Swiss Habanos Specialist stores The cigars have been seen in Germany already and there are talks that they have arrived—or will arrive soon—in other European markets as well Cuba’s Gran Reservas are intended to be special versions of Cuban cigars Previous incarnations include Montecristo No Partagás Lusitania and Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona Cuba says it used only five-year-old leaves For more about the Gran Reserva program, and to see how some have rated in Cigar Aficionado and Cigar Insider blind tastings, click here Read Next: Hurricane Milton Slams Into Western Florida, Leaving Millions Without Power For the first time in the history of Cuba’s Regional Edition program A new Regional Edition cigar made just for Northern Europe’s Nordic and Baltic countries evokes Norse … Cuba’s cigar stores face severe supply issues Conclusion of 2025 Habanos Festival features the first public tasting of a Cohiba Behike BHK 58 cigar Newest Regional Edition cigar from Phoenicia goes on sale March 1 The Habanos Festival is a busy time for new product announcements Ciudad de México (lmb.com.mx) 27 de enero de 2025.- Estos son los movimientos en rosters y listas de reserva El club Guerreros de Oaxaca asignó en préstamo (por toda la temporada 2025) a Julián Francisco León Camacho El club Acereros del Norte registró en No Profesionales a Eduardo Cantarell Winkler El club Pericos de Puebla registró en LMB como agente libre (jugador no nacido en México) a Claudio Custodio Sánchez y dio de baja a Emilio Eduardo Márquez Quintero El club Algodoneros de Unión Laguna cedió de manera definitiva los derechos de Allen Octavio Córdoba Pose bajo la misma condición (cambio definitivo) a Néstor Abraham Anguamea Serna El club Algodoneros de Unión Laguna registró en LMB como agente libre (jugador no nacido en México) a Jacob Alexander Miednik El club Leones de Yucatán registró en Academia Rookie a Ángel Yurem Ortiz Solís has added an eight-year-old reserva rum blend to its Caribba range Liviko has expanded its Caribba rum portfolio with Caribba Reserva a premium blend of Caribbean rums aged up to eight years sourced from Trinidad and the Dominican Republic targets the growing premium rum market in Europe and Asia said: “Caribba Reserva is a premium addition to the Caribba family and a natural extension of our portfolio We have observed a growing trend in the premium rum category and the initial feedback has been encouraging.” Caribba Reserva delivers a complex flavour profile and tropical fruits with hints of dried citrus peel and candied spices Liviko recommends serving Caribba Reserva slightly chilled Liviko exports its products to over 70 markets Known for brands such as Vana Tallinn and Crafter’s Gin the company continues to innovate in the global spirits sector Caribba Reserva showcases its commitment to meeting consumer demand for premium offerings We are using cookies to give you the best experience on our website You can find out more about which cookies we are using or switch them off in settings This website uses cookies so that we can provide you with the best user experience possible Cookie information is stored in your browser and performs functions such as recognising you when you return to our website and helping our team to understand which sections of the website you find most interesting and useful Strictly Necessary Cookie should be enabled at all times so that we can save your preferences for cookie settings we will not be able to save your preferences This means that every time you visit this website you will need to enable or disable cookies again It seems that the world was getting introduced to and possibly consumed by the idea of NFTs both not that long ago and yet well in the rearview mirror of what’s captivating attention were effectively digitial certificates of ownership seemingly starting in the digital art world but also making their way into the physical world with a number of manufacturers creating real-world cigars accessible to those who purchase these digital-world tokens Tatuaje and United Cigars all joined the NFT movement In the case of Tatuaje, its NFT project was announced in August 2022 in partnership with Smoke Inn, the South Florida retailer. It would be centered around the Tatuaje Anarchy a cigar that Tatuaje first produced for Smoke Inn’s Microblend series in 2010 Tatuaje and Smoke Inn created seven packages though only six would go to auction via UREEQA as one was created for Abe Dababneh owner of Smoke Inn and the creator of the Anarchy brand the digital artwork created by an unidentified artist that Dababneh has worked with for various projects over the years as well as a 75-count Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition humidor that was made at the My Father Cigars box factory in Nicaragua and which includes 60 original Tatuaje Anarchy cigars and 15 rarer Anarchy Pale Horse Editions exclusively made for NFT holders There was also a 24 x 36 framed print version of the NFT artwork a XIKAR Perfect Xi1 Cutter and a crystal ashtray by Quality Importers all with matching art to the corresponding NFT The seven NFT owners would also have the opportunity to purchase a quarterly allotment of 15 boxes of 15 Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition cigars at the price of $14 per cigar Those packages would end up selling for between $76,001 and $100,000 though four of the lots sold for right around $82,000 Note: The following shows the various Tatuaje NFT Holder Edition Toro Especial vitolas Some of these cigars may have been released after this post was originally published I have long considered Tatuaje's portfolio to have both a pretty high baseline of performance and the ability to hit really high marks with a number of its cigars This underlying thought is what makes my experience with the Tatuaje NFT Holder Edition Toro Especial Reserva a bit of a headscratcher The first cigar was fine if not particularly memorable nor one that had me jotting down many notes about what made that particular cigar memorable The second cigar was the really puzzling one particularly several encounters with the offputting flavors I often associate with Connecticut broadleaf when it's not at its best slow to start but steadily opening up into a more expressive final third I honestly couldn't make a confident prediction about whether or not this cigar will get better let alone what exactly held this one back from meeting Tatuaje's otherwise high standards All I can say is that this one came up short for me something I don't often say about a Tatuaje release The cigars were made at El Rey del los Habanos the small factory located at the My Father Cigars I was immediately struck by how dark the wrappers are definitely on the darker end of what I would consider the range of wrapper colors used by Tatuaje who weighed and measured the cigars before sending them to me mentioned that the first cigar I’d be smoking “has one of the gnarliest veins I’ve seen in some time I imagine this is what it would look like if I took up stitching,” and I’m inclined to agree on both counts I’m very surprised by a sizable vein on the front of the first cigar something that I have to chalk up to being a massive oversight or an intentional decision but the second cigar has what I’d call a baby 109-style head seemingly not as pronounced as I’ve seen elsewhere The third cigar is much like the first cigar The cigars are all firm and appear to be well-rolled with no issues other than making sure the larger veins end up on the backside of the cigar The feet of the cigars range from partially covered to fully covered which I find interesting as it’s usually pretty clearly one style or the other while the third shows a very small opening The foot has a pretty mellow aroma of cotton sheets on a warm bed and some baked chocolate brownies The cold draw ranges from a little firm to fairly firm with some chocolate chips and black pepper leading the flavor a cigar that was part of the Tatuaje Broadleaf Collection that I reviewed in April 2017 and which seemed to have some issues with the flavor of the wrapper There’s a little bit of pepper in the retrohale I’m quick to latch onto and engage with it as it gives the experience some character and definition and in hopes that it helps my senses pick up more of what the cigar has to offer body is medium and strength is mild in the first third though that really depends on getting the right amount of the head cut off The second third starts with more earthiness in the profile a natural companion for the pepper I found in retrohales and hopefully it is the beginning of more flavors appearing That earthiness does most of the work setting the table of flavors a change that brings out a bit more vibrance but keeps it largely singular aside from some black pepper which makes the cigar enjoyable and fairly familiar though it has a ways to go before I’d call it flavorful or complex I’m left at a loss to put many words down as to what the Tatuaje NFT Holder Edition Toro Especial Reserva is offering There is some creaminess in the third cigar the final puffs of this section reintroduce the funky flavor that I once again associate more with broadleaf wrappers than this blend and one I’m never happy to find hitting my taste buds though the third cigar struggles with its combustion more than the other two The final third of the final cigar seems to finally be delivering the kind of flavor I’ve been waiting for and which I have to think is what the cigar was blended to deliver Pepper and earth continue to drive the profile but the earthiness is now richer and less marked by dryness which gives the profile some depth and body The pepper starts leaning into some charred notes It’s a heavy lean into a specific direction and I’m hoping there might be a bit of sweetness to add some complexity and counterbalance that I find in retrohales and behind the other bolder flavors As the burn line hits where the bands would be almost a runaway mineral component that I can’t put a specific word to but it does leave a sour taste in my mouth on the finish in the second cigar while the third seems to dodge the flavor completely making for a much more enjoyable experience body is medium-plus and strength is medium as I haven’t had to make any additional cuts to the head and smoke production is more than sufficient I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories it’s about so much more than the cigar – the line produced by General Cigar Co. which also goes by the name Silencio in non-U.S There are numerous Cohiba lines sold in the United States all bearing the signature red dot that identifies the brand which is made at El Titan de Bronze in Miami It was the first Cohiba to be made in the United States For the fourth installment of the Cohiba Serie M line a blend that retains the same Nicaraguan corojo wrapper that the Serie M line has used since debuting in 2021 but with a Nicaraguan corojo binder and the filler coming from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua a 6 1/2 x 54 toro gordo that General Cigar Co Pricing is set at $29.99 per cigar or $299.90 for one of the 2,500 boxes of 10 cigars While the Cohiba Serie M Reserva Roja keeps the Miami-made trend going it does depart from the packaging of the previous three releases as this line gets a burgundy color scheme instead of the forest green color of the previous releases I didn't anticipate just how dry the profile of the Cohiba Serie M Reserva Roja would be and while I didn't know the blend going into the cigar even if I did I don't think I would have expected what I got thick creaminess is present to give the profile layers and connections amongst the three core drivers of the profile I was disappointed to find the third cigar to be plagued by burn issues in its second half as the other two burned quite well and had me optimistic that I might have dodged the issue that has hampered far too many cigars I've smoked recently I'm impressed by what the Cohiba Serie M Reserva Roja has to offer and have no hesitation in recommending it or smoking it again we’re proud to build on the narrative of Cohiba Serie M by releasing a one-of-a-kind cigar that is equal parts timeless and unique,” said Sean Williams the collective expertise of El Titan de Bronze and the mastery of our Cohiba team comes to life in an artisanal blend that was created to deliver a memorable smoking experience.” The Cohiba Serie M Reserva Roja keeps the look of General Cigar Co.’s Cohiba brand pretty consistent though I really like the color combination for this project Each of the three cigars is firm and doesn’t like to be squeezed too firmly with no visual issues and tightly covered feet Two of the three cigars lose their fantail caps in the handling and transit process but for something I’d be cutting off anyway The covered foot has aromas of a very light orange juice something I attribute more to the covered foot than anything and has an interesting duality; my first sensation is rich chocolate then it swings into brighter territory with toast confirming my suspicion that the covered foot was slightly impeding airflow The initial puffs are on the dry side with some pepper but also an interesting sweetness that I can’t quite place My first thought is of dehydrated red apples that’s the best I can come up with to describe it There are varying amounts of creaminess in the first puffs it forms an interesting duality with the pepper in the retrohales retrohales also reveal something that reminds me of an artificial cherry note The finish in the nose hangs around for a good bit with the sensation spreading across my nostrils after the smoke is exhaled light in body but coating my tongue with each puff a very smooth transition to a more complex profile the creaminess seems to be a limited-time engagement as this section closes out on a dry cereal note that reminds me of a handful of Cheerios with some very subtle pepper in the background Flavor is around medium with a few puffs at medium-plus Construction is very good and problem-free thus far with only a slightly uneven burn line being of note The second third of the Cohiba Serie M Reserva Roja carries over the dryness that closed out the first third leading me to wonder just how much of a role it will play going forward while I find myself missing the creaminess with each puff Retrohales stay lively and get even more so as this section progresses lighting up and tingling my nostrils with some real vigor The flavor aspect of the Cohiba Serie M Reserva Roja settles a bit leaving retrohales to deliver the livelier aspects of the experience The flavor gets just a touch earthier and grittier leaving a different sensation on the finish and one that creeps down my throat body is medium and strength is medium-minus burn line and smoke production are all good The final third of the Cohiba Serie M Reserva Roja starts with a fairly quick shift to a drier profile and I notice that the body of the smoke and the layering of the flavor are both a touch thinner than they had been previously when both were fuller and more thorough in their coating of my mouth and tongue but it doesn’t match the level of flavor or mouth-coating sensation of the first third Retrohales stay lively and have been very consistent from start to finish A touch of heat comes along at the very end of the cigar signaling that it is time to put the cigar down after a very enjoyable experience Flavor is a more robust medium-full than earlier body is medium-full and strength is medium-minus One cigar struggles with combustion but not construction issues Estonian distiller Liviko has expanded its premium spirits range with the launch of Caribba Reserva rum The latest expression features a carefully crafted blend of rums most Prado Enea uses a selection of the best and later-harvested grapes from Muga’s plots on the northwestern edge of Rioja Alta Its ageworthiness and laidback classicism have made it – vintage variation notwithstanding – one of the safest and best-valued options among investment-worthy Spanish wines. It strikes an interesting balance between classical and more modern Rioja Winemaker Manuel Muga explains that the age of the vines will further limit the quantity of Prado Enea produced in the future adding that ‘the most important [thing] is that quality will always prevail over quantity’ but Austria’s Fronius is back in the home battery manufacturing game Fronius is best known for its inverters, but the company once offered a home energy storage system called the Fronius Solar Battery but could be expanded to as much as 12kWh capacity (9.6kWh usable) and offered a 4kW continuous power rating at the 12kWh configuration It wasn’t cheap (“reassuringly expensive” as SQ’s Anthony would say) could only be installed indoors and used for three-phase homes it didn’t come as a great surprise when the company stopped offering it the Fronius Reserva is a DC-coupled high-voltage battery offering usable capacities of between 6.3 kWh and 15.8 kWh The base unit is expanded by adding up to 5 stackable modules of 3.15kWh each The cells in the modules are lithium iron phosphate (LFP/LiFeO4) chemistry Up to four battery towers (aka “stacks”) can be connected in parallel to achieve a maximum storage capacity of 63 kWh The company says the Reserva is backup power and black start capable A Fronius Backup Controller and Backup Switch is needed to enable automatic backup power switching which means it can be installed outside (in “protected areas”) as well as indoors The system has an operating temperature range of -20 C to 55 C Dimensions range from 860 x 780 x 176 mm – 1,610 x 780 x 176 mm depending on the number of modules in a tower; so it’s quite a slim battery that’s not specified on the datasheet but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the case with the Reserva Monitoring of the Reserva is via Fronius Solar.web where all Fronius device monitoring is displayed The company says data is stored exclusively on European servers which is meant to reassure those who are particularly concerned with data being stored …elsewhere The company’s original battery only had a 5-year warranty whereas with the Reserva it’s 10 years According to Fronius CSO Harald Scherleitner: “Longevity is particularly important to us at Fronius We therefore guarantee that the Fronius Reserva will still deliver at least 80 percent of its usable energy after ten years from the start of the warranty.” I haven’t seen a warranty document yet to check out the finer details but 80% at the end of year 10 is pretty good; with many manufacturers only warrantying 60% – 70% I’ve asked Fronius if/when the Reserva will be available in Australia and will update this post when there’s further information Approximate pricing isn’t known – but keeping in with Fronius tradition the Reserva battery will likely also be “reassuringly expensive” I like Fronius gear and have a Primo SnapInverter (being phased out) and a Wattpilot EV charger While I didn’t experience any “wow” when reading about the Reserva based on the company’s track record over the last decade it’s not unreasonable to suggest it should be the same The Reserva isn’t the only battery compatible with Fronius’s hybrid inverters. For example, there’s also BYD’s Battery-Box Premium HVS/HVM; although the HVS series no longer appears to be available Michael caught the solar power bug after purchasing components to cobble together a small off-grid PV system in 2008 He's been reporting on Australian and international solar energy news ever since There appears to be a webinar scheduled for 13th March where https://www.fronius.com/en/solar-energy/installers-partners/infocentre/events/webinar-en-reserva-13032025 Shame about the limited capacity with single phase systems I have a Primo GEN 24 and am in the market for a battery but it looks like it’ll have to be BYD HVM or LG FLEX if I want more than 9.5 kWh what could the technical reason be or is it just gate-keeping That limit of only the 6.3 or 9.5 kW.h models with single-phase (Primo) inverters is a real bummer but it’s because the Primo’s DC battery voltage range has to be between 150-455 V DC unlike the 2 PV/MPTT inputs which are 65-600 V DC The 12.6 & 15.8 kW.h models exceed that battery DC voltage limit if you subtract Germany’s 19% VAT then add international shipping to AU better than it’s ever been for big-brand-name home-batteries but when you then convert to AUD it’s still an eye-watering AUD$826/kW.h And these prices don’t include any of the Fronius switch-gear to get isolated backup operation Does anyone know how fast it will kick in in case of a blackout Currently the Gen24 inverters are down to about 15 seconds I believe unmissable analogue warning signal that there’s been an outage & you need to be modest with your consumption If you require UPS for a computer or something then a solar inverter really isn’t good enough Even those claiming millisecond response times will shut down & reset if they’re exporting a lot (and the battery is already at 80%+) when the grid outage occurs Please keep the SolarQuotes blog constructive and useful with these 5 rules: Real names are preferred - you should be happy to put Vladimir Gutiérrez (#53) The Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Connecticut, which debuted in March 2012 as an exclusive release for brick-and-mortar retailers in New England has begun arriving at stores nationwide as My Father Cigars has turned it into a national release The cigar traces its roots to the Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial 2011 Limited Edition, which was released at the 2011 IPCPR trade show in boxes of 16 with one of the cigars having an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper as opposed to the Connecticut broadleaf found on the other 15 That sixteenth cigar became a highly sought-after commodity in numerous cigar stores often being the first one plucked from a new box That Ecuadorian Connecticut-wrapped version was reportedly being considered for the 2012 version of the Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Limited Edition regional release to retailers in New England in March 2012 with about 15 retailers carrying the cigar when it debuted with 250 boxes of 20 cigars produced for each size which came in boxes indicating they were exclusive to the New England region Now, the cigar has returned in four sizes that are similar to those in the regional release, with the most notable change being that a 5 1/2 x 52 belicoso has been swapped out for a 7 x 50 Churchill while the robusto goes from 4 1/2 inches to 5 inches long The company has not released much in the way of official details about the cigar such as whether the blend has remained the same if the cigars are going to be a regular production item Based on some online retailers’ listings two retailers do not have the Churchill vitola listed as being available Multiple e-mails to My Father requesting additional details about the cigars have not been returned Image via My Father Cigars on Instagram db‘s ‘Wine of the “Never drink this wine alone: enjoy it in good company.” fresh and yet intense nose of butterscotch Austrian inverter firm Fronius has unveiled its first battery storage system The high-voltage battery with DC coupling has a storage of 6.3 kWh A maximum storage capacity of 63 kWh can be achieved by connecting up to four towers in parallel “The Fronius Reserva is backup power and black start capable,” the company said “This means that the battery can continue to be charged and discharged even in the event of a power failure this means more independence and a reliable energy supply The storage system uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with a capacity of 3.15 kWh each.   “The biggest benefit for customers is that they will receive all the components for a complete photovoltaics system from us,” said Fronius CSO Harald Scherleitner “We are now offering solar power as a complete package supplying everything from a single source.   This has several advantages: Firstly all products are perfectly matched to each other and secondly it only takes one app for complete energy management.” Scherleitner added that the company guaranteed that the Fronius Reserva will still deliver at least 80% of its usable energy after ten years from the start of the warranty ShareSaveCommentLifestyleSpiritsReserva De La Familia’s Cristalino Tequila Is OutstandingByJoseph V de la Familia José Cuervo is one of the oldest and most renowned Tequila brands in the world The Reserva de la Familia (RDLF) line represents the pinnacle of the distillery’s Tequila offerings Once reserved for the family’s private consumption this prestigious Tequila line is crafted with the utmost care and expertise Below is some background and a tasting note on RDLF’s latest release Cristalino Tequila is a relatively new Tequila category complex and layered flavor profile and crystal-clear appearance It is typically made by taking an aged Tequila subjecting it to a multi-step charcoal filtration process that removes the color while retaining the complex flavors developed during aging has not yet accepted Cristalino Tequila as a distinct category Cristalinos are categorized based on the underlying aging of the base Tequila used to produce it Cuervo’s Reserva de la Familia range comprises Platino (Blanco) The Tequila is intended for bottling as Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia Cristalino Tequila is an Añejo Tequila This is RDLF’s first Añejo Tequila bottling Both the Añejo and Extra Añejo Tequilas are aged in a combination of French and American oak The extra Añejo is aged for three years while the Añejo is aged for one year The Extra Añejo Tequila receives more French oak while the Añejo Tequila receives more American oak Each barrel type imparts unique characteristics to the Tequila contributing to their complex flavor profile This distinction makes the two Tequilas very different from one another French oak (Quercus robur) barrels are known for their tight grain which allows for a slower extraction of flavors and tannins This results in a more subtle and nuanced influence on the spirit French oak can also contribute a creamy texture and a hint of sweetness to the Tequila American oak (Quercus alba) barrels have a looser grain than French oak allowing for a more robust flavor extraction The higher levels of vanillin in American oak impart more pronounced caramel and the more pronounced oak character that American oak casks imparts are precisely the favors that are emphasized in Cristalino Tequila the Cristalino Tequila is finished for six months in barrels that previously held Pedro Ximénez (PX) Sherry When PX Sherry casks are used to age Tequila they impart distinctive flavors of dried fruit notes of raisins there are sweet notes of honey and molasses along with dark and milk chocolate and espresso/coffee flavors along with toasted walnut and almond flavors Aging Tequila in PX Sherry casks imparts a luxurious sweetness and spice notes blend harmoniously with the Tequila’s inherent flavors adding depth and complexity to the spirit the meticulous charcoal filtration process makes it look like a blanco Tequila with a complex bouquet of vanilla and caramel followed by pronounced aromas of golden raisin spicier hints of cinnamon and nutmeg and a hint of wet stone minerality delicate floral aromas and the underlying sweetness of cooked agave come through complemented by dried apricot and fig notes chocolate and a faint hint of roasted coffee The Tequila is exceptionally smooth and satiny on the palate The mid-palate reveals complex notes of dark/milk chocolate while the agave’s natural sweetness provides a bright and refreshing contrast The oak aging imparts a gentle spiciness and a rich full-bodied mouthfeel that lingers on the palate and caramel are beautifully balanced by a hint of black pepper and a touch of minerality Think of a Cadbury fruit and nut bar with an alcoholic twist This is an ideal Tequila to enjoy neat or on the rocks
