officially inaugurated the world's largest single-line pulp mill in Ribas do Rio Pardo
The ceremony was attended by the President of Brazil
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; the Vice President and Minister of Development
as well as representatives from the federal
With capacity to produce 2.55 million tonnes of pulp per year
the project is the result of a total investment of R$22.2 billion (~U$4.3 billion)
of which R$15.9 billion (~U$3.1 billion) was allocated to the construction of the mill and R$6.3 billion (~U$1.2 billion) dedicated to areas such as developing outbound logistics and the forestry base
This marks the largest investment in Suzano's 100-year history
and represents one of the largest private investments in Brazil in recent years
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva emphasized the importance of responsible private investment to the country's development: "We can only reap what we sow if we plant properly
"The Brazilian economy is expected to grow by 3.5% this year
It is one of the largest growth rates among all the countries in the world," he added
Reflecting on Suzano's ambitious goals for promoting diversity
Lula emphasized the importance of this agenda in fostering a more equitable society
with 448 working in the forestry sector and 161 in the industrial sector
The construction of the Ribas do Rio Pardo mill was first announced in May 2021
with a total of more than 45,000 people involved throughout its duration
The mill began operations on July 21 of this year and currently employs approximately 3,000 people working across industrial
highlighted that the Ribas do Rio Pardo mill serves as a prime example of private investment delivering positive outcomes for both people and nature: "Over 45,000 people have worked here
we generate 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region
This is the type of social impact that an investment of this scale brings to the country and the state
We have an industrial complex here that can generate all the energy this hub requires in a renewable and clean manner
with enough surplus to supply all the households in Mato Grosso do Sul
Suzano plants 1.2 million trees a day and extracts more carbon from the atmosphere than it releases
serving as a tangible example of a sustainable industry," stated the executive during the ceremony
The Ribas do Rio Pardo unit will be self-sufficient in green energy production
with a surplus of approximately 180 megawatts (MW) on average
which will serve the satellite suppliers of the mill and contribute to the National Interconnected System (SIN)
This energy from a renewable source is enough to power a city of up to 2 million inhabitants monthly
With the start of operations at the new unit
Suzano's installed pulp production capacity increased from 10.9 million to 13.5 million tonnes per year
representing an increase of over 20% in the company's current pulp production
Suzano also has the capacity to produce 1.5 million tonnes annually of papers
among other products that use pulp as a raw material
The new unit also contributed to the increase in Suzano's production capacity in Mato Grosso do Sul
with a total capacity of 5.8 million tonnes of pulp per year
which directly contributes to regional socioeconomic development
The mill has the smallest structural average radius of the forest base among Suzano's operations
totaling 65 km between the planting areas and the mill
This unique feature minimizes logistical costs and the environmental impact associated with the transportation of pulp and wood
50% of wood transportation is conducted using hexatrains - supertrains that operate exclusively on the company's private roads and can carry up to 250 tonnes of wood
This approach significantly reduces the use of fossil fuels and the emission of greenhouse gases
Suzano has a forest base of 599,000 hectares in Mato Grosso do Sul
with 143,000 hectares set aside exclusively for conservation
the company has invested in establishing two seedling nurseries
one in Campo Grande and another in Ribas do Rio Pardo
which have a total production capacity of 75 million eucalyptus seedlings per year
In line with its public commitment to support the sustainable development of Ribas do Rio Pardo and the surrounding region
Suzano has not only generated thousands of direct and indirect jobs and contributed significantly to the stimulation of the entire economic chain
but has also invested in improving the skills base of the local workforce
Over 1,300 individuals have been qualified for industrial
300 people have been trained for the local job market
Suzano has also invested more than R$300 million in constructing new housing units and a medical center
Through the Basic Environmental Plan (PBA) alone

Market pulp producer Suzano has successfully started up the operation of its new mill
which it claimed is the largest single pulp production line in the world
Marking the completion of one of Brazil’s largest ever private investment projects
will have an annual production capacity of 2.55 million tonnes of eucalyptus pulp
increasing Suzano’s production capacity by more than 20% to 13.5 million tonnes a year
is the result of a total investment of R$22.2bn (around £3.3bn)
of which R$15.9bn was allocated for the construction of the plant and R$6.3bn was earmarked for initiatives such as the formation of the planting base and the pulp outbound logistics
Suzano also has the capacity to produce 1.5 million tonnes of paper per year
among other products that use pulp as raw material
“The successful completion of the Cerrado Project reflects the dedication and execution capability of each person involved in this grand and transformative project,” said Beto Abreu
“It also attests to the culture of excellence that permeates the entire organisation
masterfully led by [previous CEO] Walter Schalka during his 11-year tenure here
“His vision and ambition have proven key in delivering a world-class mill within the planned budget
adhered to Suzano’s core focus on supporting sustainability and having a positive impact on local communities.”
In line with Suzano’s ESG Commitments to Renewing Life
the site has been purpose-built to meet global demand for sustainably produced eucalyptus-based products
The mill will use renewable biomass to produce
which will be directed toward the mill’s local suppliers as well as the national grid
is enough to power a city of up to two million inhabitants
The proximity of the mill to Suzano’s eucalyptus farms means emissions and time from logging transportation will be significantly reduced
The structural distance from forest-to-mill is only 65km on average compared to Suzano’s structural average supply radius of 150km
The plant will also be self-sufficient in the production of sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide
Suzano said the investment is the largest investment in its 100-year history and has a series of operational and socio-environmental advances
with the plant laying the foundations for future growth opportunities such as the development of innovative new products from renewable raw materials
having created as many as 10,000 jobs during the construction phase
the operational mill will now provide 3,000 full-time jobs at the mill and the surrounding forestry and logistic operations
Suzano said it was also making significant investments into improving local infrastructure and broadening access to quality education and healthcare
earlier this month the Brazilian pulpmaker announced the acquisition of industrial assets from Pactiv Evergreen in the US
It said this transaction would expand the company’s operations in North America and marked its entrance into the consumer and food service packaging segments in the region
that manufacture liquid packaging board and cupstock
Subject to final regulatory approval expected later this year
these assets will add approximately 420,000 metric tonnes annually of integrated paperboard to Suzano’s production capacity
Suzano signed a long-term supply deal with Pactiv Evergreen to provide liquid packaging board for its converting business
Earlier this year Suzano also entered into a long-term partnership with B&C Group with respect to its majority stake in Vienna-listed Lenzing
which supplies cellulosic fibres for the textile and non-wovens industry
Suzano recently terminated talks to buy American pulp and paper firm International Paper after failing to offer a high enough purchase price

The Suzano company reported that it will build a new pulp production plant in the municipality of Ribas do Rio Pardo, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil
With more than 90 years of experience, the company operates primarily in the pulp (paper and lint grade) and paper (cardboard
Suzano is one of the largest vertically integrated producers of pulp and paper in Latin America and
was the largest producer of eucalyptus pulp in the world and virgin market pulp in the world in 2020
Like other Brazilian producers of eucalyptus pulp
it has the lowest pulp production cost in the world
the company is one of the largest paper producers in Brazil and
represents almost 40% of printing and writing paper and 25% of cardboard produced in Brazil in 2020
The new plant will have a nominal capacity of 2,550,000 tons per year of eucalyptus pulp production
it exceeds the initially planned annual nominal capacity of 2,300,000 tons
The company estimates that the new plant will start operating in the second half of 2024
Of the industrial capital investment in the project
the company indicated that it remains estimated at 14.7 billion Brazilian reais
with a disbursement distributed between 2021 and 2024
in compliance with the company’s commitment to financial discipline
maintaining compliance with the parameters established in Suzano’s Debt Management Policy
Suzano’s total installed eucalyptus pulp production capacity was 11.9 million tons per year and its total production volume was 10.8 million tons
of which 9.8 million tons were produced as commercial pulp and the remainder was used for the production of 1.2 million tons of paper and cardboard

FORT WORTH, Tex. – The reigning PBR (Professional Bull Riders) World Champion came back Saturday night without missing a beat.
Marking his return to competition after fracturing his ankle during his first out of the 2021 season, Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) was triumphant at the elite Unleash The Beast: American Roots Edition tour stop inside Cowtown Coliseum, winning Round 1 of the PBR Can-AM Invitational courtesy of a monstrous 90-point score.
In the seemingly unstoppable form that brought his first gold buckle in 2020, Leme matched Hundred Bad Days (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.) jump-for-jump in Round 1 and then casually stuck his dismount, as he was marked a commanding 91 points, the fifth-best score of the season to date.
“I’m so glad to be back and healthy,” Leme said following his round victory. “This is amazing, my first ride after my son was born, with 91 points. It’s incredible for me. It’s hard to describe. I’m so happy now; me and my wife, she’s doing really good. I’m hoping we can be a good mom and father for him.”
The 24-year-old, who is attempting to become just the second back-to-back World Champion in league history, was sidelined on the first day of the new season when he bucked off Dirty Sancho (Blake Sharp/Koe Wetzel/High Voltage Cattle) in 2.75 seconds and fractured his right ankle. Opting to not undergo surgery, Leme, who recently welcomed his first child, reignited his quest for history after missing three events due to rehab.
In winning the round, Leme earned a critical 29 world points and catapulted 33 positions in the world standings, rising from No. 85 to No. 32. Ahead of Round 2 from the Lone Star State, Leme now trails No. 1 Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) by 297.50 points.
Davis failed to extend his lead atop the world rankings on the opening night of action in Fort Worth. The 2016 PBR World Champion, and home state hopeful, was bested by Baby Gangster (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls) in a swift 2.82 seconds.
On a night of ferocious action that included 13 riders reaching the 8-second whistle, Joao Ricardo Vieira (Itatinga, Brazil) was second, earning 18 world points.
The stoic South American contender logged the runner-up finish after covering Outlaw (Cord McCoy/Big Sky Bulls, LLC) for 89.5 points.
Vieira gained one position in the world standings and is now ranked No. 13 in the world after entering the event ranked No. 14. He trails No. 1 Davis by 234.5 points.
Alex Cerqueira (Iguatemi, Brazil), 2019 PBR Rookie of the Year Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) and Rafael Henrique dos Santos (Sebastianopolis, Brazil) tied for third after recording matching 88-point scores.
Covering Cuttin Torch (D&H Cattle/Flinn), Peep Show (3J Ranch) and House Mouse (Nothin’ But Try Ranch/Diggers Bucking Bulls), respectively, each rider collected 16 world points.
In the early 2021 PBR World Championship race, the score allowed Santos to gain the most ground. While he traveled to Cowtown Coliseum ranked No. 23, he is now No.19, 266 points back of the No.1 rank.
Cerqueira and Kasel also both gained ground, with Cerqueira cracking the world’s Top 10, rising from No. 11 to No. 10, and Kasel surging from No. 17 to No.14.
Friday night’s competition also included an American Bucking Bull Inc. (ABBI) Classic event in conjunction with Round 1 that included 40 of the top 3- and 4-year-old up-and-coming bulls. An ABBI Classic competition is the next step in a young bovine’s competitive career that involves bucking with a rider.
Juju (Julian/D&H Cattle) earned the Fort Worth Classic Champion title with a 91.8-point out against young gun Colten Fritzlan (Rifle, Colorado), earning more than $9,000. Mr. Right Now (Silent 7/Hilton Bull Co.) was second with a 90-points effort, earning nearly $5,500, while recently crowned Del Rio Classic Champion Manaba (Webb/Julian/D&H Cattle Co.) was third with 89.6 points for $4,300.
Body Count (Bob & Jeri Adams/BS Cattle) posted 89.2 points for a fourth-place finish and $3,600, and Ranch Water (Waller/Red Laces) rounded out the Top 5 with 88.8 points for $3,000 and fifth-place.

The PBR Can-Am Invitational from Fort Worth and the iconic Cowtown Coliseum will conclude on Saturday, February 27, starting at 8:00 p.m. CST, with Round 2 and the championship round.

LAS VEGAS – The world’s top three bull riders once again went toe-to-toe and ride-for-ride in all conquering their bulls inside a sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Round 4, and deciding the 2019 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Unleash The Beast World Finals will go down to the final out.
While World No. 1 Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil), No. 2 Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) and No. 3 Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas) delivered qualified rides to intensify the ferocious World Championship race, Rubens Barbosa (Iaciara, Brazil) recorded the fourth highest-marked ride in the history of the World Finals on Chiseled (Flinn/D&H Cattle Co.) for 95.75 points to win Round 4.
Heading into the final day of competition, Leme now leads Lockwood by a slim 377.49 points.
Following an event which included countless jaw-dropping wrecks, and highlight-reel worthy rides, the crowd was once again brought to the edge of their seats when the night’s final three riders stepped atop the chutes.
Outlaw set the tone early, covering Catch My Drift (Two Bit Bucking Bulls/K Rose Ranch) for 88 points, heightening the pressure upon Lockwood and Leme.
Fueled by the energy of the first World Finals sell-out at T-Mobile Arena, Lockwood then erupted for his third consecutive 90-point ride of the 2019 PBR World Finals, reaching the 8-second buzzer aboard The Right Stuff (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Diamond Willow/Smith/Nix/Owens) for a monstrous 91.75 points.
“Shoot, it’s just a good feeling going into the last day perfect,” Lockwood said. “The year I won (the championship, in 2017), I bucked off this night.”
For the third time this week, the world’s Top 3 completed a sweep of the round, when Leme punctuated the night with an 89.75-point trip atop BootDaddy.com (Crescent City Bucking Bulls/Gene Owen).
The score left Outlaw ninth in the round, earning him 10 world points. Leme was fourth, netting 95 points and $10,000. Lockwood concluded the round third, earning 125 world points and $15,000.
Earning 30 more world points than Leme, Lockwood is now within 377.49 points of the No. 1 ranking as the world’s Top 40 bull riders prepare for Championship Sunday. Outlaw is now 1,899.16 points behind No. 1 Leme, and 1,521.67 points back of No. 2 Lockwood.
Leme and Outlaw are now both 3-for-4, while Lockwood is the lone rider to be a perfect 4-for-4 leading him to reign atop both the aggregate and event leaderboard. Leme is sixth in the event, and third in the aggregate, while Outlaw is eighth in the event and fifth in the aggregate.
Earlier in the night, Barbosa made history when he won Round 4 with the fourth highest-marked ride ever recorded at the PBR World Finals when he covered Chiseled for 95.75 points.
The out marks the second time at the World Finals the D&H Cattle Co. bovine athlete propelled a rider to a round win. Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) was victorious in Round 1, covering the bull for 91.25 points, the first 90-point ride of the event.
Barbosa left T-Mobile Arena with a check for $35,000 and 300 world points, rising from No. 28 to No. 22 in the world.
“I have no words to explain how much I’m very happy,” Barbosa said. “My high score in PBR was 92 in 2011, eight years ago. Today, my dream came true.”
Leandro Machado (Nova Esperanca, Brazil) finished second in the round to collect 180 world points and $20,000. The Brazilian newcomer covered El Big Bad (Hudgins Bucking Bulls) for 92.75 points, a new career-best score.
The 22-year-old is competing at the first PBR World Finals of his career after advancing via the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Finals as the top-finishing international invite.
He is now 2-for-4 inside T-Mobile Arena after having ridden Uncle Gangster (Odgen Ranch/Hart Cattle Co.) for 87.25 points in Round 1.
Machado’s path to the season-culminating event is reminiscent of Leme’s rise to stardom in 2017 when he also competed in Las Vegas for the first time on American soil. Leme also advanced to the World Finals via the Velocity Tour Finals and then went an astonishing 6-for-6 to win both the event title and Rookie of the Year honor.
Courtesy of the 90-point ride, Machado climbed to No. 45 in the world and is now seventh on the event leaderboard.
Fifth place in the round was split by 2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) and Rookie of the Year contenders Ezekiel Mitchell (Rockdale, Texas) and Dylan Smith (Ararat, Virginia) after each recorded an 89.5-point ride. The trio covered M.A.G.A. (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.), Lester Gillis (Jane Clark/Gene Owen) and Spotted Snake (Weber Bucking Bulls), respectively, to each collect 53.33 world points and $3,333.33.
For Mitchell and Smith, the 8-second effort was crucial to the Rookie of the Year race. While they remain No. 4 and No. 15 in the competition amongst first-year pros, Mitchell closed the gap on standings leader Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) to 660.42 points, while Smith is now 1,560.42 points back.
Fellow title contender Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York) also reached the 8-second mark, covering Too Dirty (Cord McCoy/Bruce Wold/HR Bulls) for 86.5 points to conclude the round 12th, but finished outside the points.
Saturday night also concluded the ABBI World Finals Classic Event when more than $500,000 was paid out.
Chiseled earned both the 2019 ABBI Classic Championship and 2019 ABBI World Finals Classic Event Championship. With that, the dominant bovine picked up a payout of $200,000 while earning 89.4 points during his out in Round 1 for a sixth-place finish, and 93.2 points in his second out to launch him into the top spot.
El Big Bad was crowned the 2019 ABBI World Finals Event Reserve Champion with 180 points in the average and $50,000 in earnings. Preachers Kid (K Bar C/RD Cattle) and The Right Stuff tied for third place with 179 points and $30,000 apiece.
I’m Legit Too (Bloyd Land & Cattle) was the 2019 ABBI Classic Reserve Champion for a $50,000 bonus while The Right Stuff also placed third in the year-end Classic Champion race.
The 2019 PBR World Finals will conclude with Round 5 and the championship round on Sunday, November 10 beginning at 12:40 p.m. PT inside T-Mobile Arena.
Fans can relive all the action from Round 4 starting at 8:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, November 10 on RidePass.com or via the mobile app.
