elected Father Wagner Ferreira da Silva as their new President
in the vote for Vice President of the Community
Father Donizete Heleno Ferreira was elected
He has been a member of Canção Nova
and received his doctorate in Moral Theology from the Accademia Alfonsiana in Rome
From 2009 to 2015 he was a member of the General Council as General Formator
Since 2018 he held the position of Vice President
he was elected Deliberative President of the John Paul II Foundation
a position previously held by the Founder and first President of Canção Nova
Father Ferreira da Silva is also Deputy Coordinator of "Charis," the Brazilian Service of Communion created by the Holy See for the grace current of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal
He holds a degree in Portuguese/English Literature from the University "Presidente Antônio Carlos" (UNIPAC) and a Doctorate in Canon Law in Rome
He is a member of the General Assembly and has served as Adviser to the General Secretariat
the President is charged with "directing and coordinating the life and activity of the Canção Nova Community
with the task of overseeing the charism and mission: its realization
"To assist and collaborate with the President in the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of the Canção Nova Community," on the other hand
are the attributions of the Vice-President
The Canonical Statute of the Canção Nova Community also indicates that its Superior and Council exercise a 5-year term
Since the election of the current Council took place in 2021
the current President and Vice President will serve until 2026

Smitherman was selected to participate in a four-week exchange in Brazil on the campus of the Iracambi Rainforest Research Center and on the Rio Pomba campus of the Federal Technical Institute of Southeastern Minas Gerais
The course in the Atlantic Rainforest begins today
is one of six Hampton students selected to participate the all-expense-paid program that offers opportunities for American and Brazilian students to live and study together in a practical internship in the fields of biodiversity conservation
agro-ecology and sustainable environmental management
The Atlantic Rainforest is one of the world's top five biodiversity locations
It lies between the states of Rio Grande de Norte and Rio Grande do Sul
stretching from the coast to the inland mountains
Smitherman is a graduate of Ramsay High School and is the daughter of State Sen
The younger Smitherman was recently honored by Mayor William Bell and the City Council for her academic success
The presentation was also a homecoming for Carole Smitherman
a former longtime council woman and council president
Crystal Smitherman is enrolled in the Freddye T
