The company found in the cloud the possibility of modernizing its technology infrastructure
also installed a platform that provided peace of mind for remote work during the pandemic
What was driven by security was gradually becoming a digital transformation by the possibilities generated by Azure
Usina Santa Adélia is a traditional agricultural company
it has two plants in the cities of Jaboticabal and Pereira Barreto – both in the state of São Paulo
the production capacity of the company's two units was 137,000 tons of sugar
and the sale of 58.8 MWh per ton of exported sugarcane energy
Total milling was 5.8 million tons of sugarcane
Usina Santa Adélia has been undergoing a modernization process
adapting family management to an outlook focused on professionalization and the market
the company began reviewing its technology infrastructure
undergoing a review of application architecture
with the intention of bringing robustness and agility to the company's internal processes
The company's calendar is divided between the off-season period between November and March
when the raw material is planted and preventive maintenance of the industrial plant is performed
when the plant operates 24 hours a day and seven days a week
"It is a just-in-time process because sugarcane is very perishable and loses quality if cut and unprocessed
it was time to review the company's on-premises data center
"This opportunity has come up to look at other scenarios
That's when the partnership with SGA came in
which did an analysis of our environment and came up with the proposal to migrate to the Microsoft Cloud," Carlos says
After conducting a series of studies analyzing scenarios, risks, and advantages, with the approval of the board, the company found Microsoft Azure to be a safe environment for migration
The decision was made in September 2019; over the next two months
there was a process of preparing the environment and the implementation took place in March 2020
The architecture covers the entire corporate process: in addition to the system required to maintain production
it supports the management of the payment of employees
"The implementation was well planned and took place without the need for re-installations: they deployed the agent on the source server
which replicated the data to the cloud destination server
and it was already possible to do all the validation of the environment," Carlos analyzes
Usina Santa Adélia gained the availability
Internal team familiarity with Microsoft products was also a favorable factor
explains that safety was the centerpiece of project design and other issues such as flexibility and economics also integrated thinking
it was essential that it allowed the company to think ahead
"We are focused on infrastructure modernization
Usina Santa Adélia is now able to adopt other technologies and look to the future," he explains
Cloud infrastructure has also brought a potential for integration, connecting other tools in use at Usina Santa Adélia, such as Power BI, Power Apps, and Office 365
integration with the tools: all of this creates a more productive and efficient work dynamic," says Carlos
This potential was evident when the pandemic generated restrictive social measures aimed at containing the problem
it took a few weeks to implement the platform and ensure remote work of the administrative team
as the company is classified as an essential service
"We wanted a performance environment that was simple to use and with little traumatic twist
The company was able to work with these teams remotely using the cloud environment
and much of the success is that this deployment looked a lot at the user experience
we would certainly have been much more impacted in terms of employee experience," Carlos celebrates
Carlos assesses that the solution brought a number of benefits to Usina Santa Adélia and gave peace of mind to operate at full steam
"We have been able to improve the level of service and ensure the availability agreed with our company
as well as make the performance environment
with centralized and simplified management," he comments
He also evaluates cost management in the cloud as positive and can provision a space with much more flexibility than would be possible in an on-premises environment
as well as the possibility of developing applications in the system
"What motivated the migration was not digital transformation
but the good experience we had with this environment led us to pull other fronts to digital transformation
then focused on processes with more mobile tools
We are very happy with the path we are taking now
and the cloud is certainly a big driver of that," he concludes
“We have been able to improve the level of service and ensure the availability agreed with our company
with centralized and simplified management.”

A river of caramel is threatening to engulf a Brazilian town after a warehouse fire melted more than 30,000 tonnes of sugar
Firefighters were today still battling to control the blaze 70 hours after it started at the industrial site in Santa Adelia
Hundreds of locals have already been moved from their houses into hotels for fear of being engulfed in the sugary substance - with others barricading their doors with sandbags and earth
The free-flowing caramel is also believed to have contaminated a local river - with dead fish appearing as far as five miles from the blaze
However, workers' efforts to stop the caramel from spreading have been hampered by the fact it is thick and cannot be siphoned off like water, police told G1.
The blaze, which struck the warehouse - owned by distributor Agrovia - on Friday, is believed to have started on a loading conveyor chain.
Locals have been warned that many more tonnes of sugar are still expected to be burned at the plant, and that they should prepare for the worst.
As well as supplying Brazilian towns with sugar, Agrovia's plant in Santa Adelia exports 1.7million tonnes of the product around the world.
Last week, another fire at a warehouse belonging to Copersucar, Brazil's biggest sugar exporter, at Sao Paulo's port of Santos, destroyed 180,000 tonnes of sugar.

Local artist Fabio Xavier lives by the quote, “Do what you love and love what you do.”
A talented and thriving painter and photographer, Xavier has incorporated his love for the arts into his daily life and has made it into a career.
Hailing from Santa Adelia, S.P., Brazil, Xavier began painting at fifteen years old. After spending time working on advancing his career in Miami Beach, Xavier relocated to Newton, MA, and now resides in Dover, where he presented a solo exhibition called “The Colors of Life.”
Visitors at Fabio Xavier’s exhibition ‘The Colors of Life’ admire ‘No Limit.’
The exhibition on November 30 at the Dover Church invited all Dover residents and art appreciators to view Xavier’s work, which contains both fine arts and contemporary pieces. In the church’s Kraft Hall, colorful portraits and paintings of mandalas greeted the visitors.
In front of a splotchy green, yellow, and orange background, inspirational Mexican artist Frida Kahlo was painted in a traditional portrait style – from the shoulders up. Aside from the massive size of the canvas portrait, the bold details of the pattern on Kahlo’s shirt and the flowers in her hair, along with the pleasant sanguine color of her lips, attracted viewers to the piece.
“Orchidea” displayed a beautiful contrast of colors as pure, white orchid blossoms bloomed across the canvas with a rainbow of colors behind it.
Xavier’s work also tends to lean more towards abstract art, as seen in his mandala paintings. While the mandala pieces look busy upon first glance, one must remember that Xavier created the beautiful blends of colors, shapes, and lines from a once-white canvas.
Having started fluid art only months ago, Fabio Xavier appears to have already mastered the acrylic and resin fluid painting.
All of the pieces at Xavier’s exhibition were for sale, and while many of the more intricate paintings came with a heftier price tag, the artist offered quite a few nature-inspired landscapes for those seeking to own an authentic Fabio Xavier painting. Such pieces featured pink and yellow wildflowers, waterfront views, and Xavier’s efforts to capture a stormy sky.
