A tornado of flames emerged from a fire and swirled several meters into the air on a farm in Brazil, on Tuesday.
The spectacular images show the whirlwind spreading on the banks of the GO-210 motorway near Santa Helena de Goiás, central west Brazil.
It relentlessly flashes its luminous orange flames as local workers step back to watch the spectacle, before the camera turns to the barren and dried land surrounding the blaze.
Otherwise known as a 'fire devil', the bright flame arcs towards the sky with explosions at the base and a rising vortex towards its core.
It is the result of a clash between intense heat and turbulent wind conditions - and can reach a staggering 1,090 degrees.
Farm workers were clearing the land when the rare spectacle occurred.
At the time, the climate in the region was very dry and those at the scene reported the open country area was hit by strong winds.
According to the fire department, weather conditions favoured the formation of the fiery whirlpool which was activated when a wind column passed over a burning parched area of land turning smouldering embers into the fire twister.
Farm workers were able to bring the blaze safely under control within two hours and the number of injuries remain unknown.
The formation of fire swirls is one of the 'rarest events in nature', according to experts at Sao Paulo’s Somar Meteorology Institute in Brazil.
It can only occur in very specific atmospheric conditions and is a combination of high temperatures, turbulent winds, low air humidity and dry soil.
And the phenomenon consists of a burning core and a rotating pocket of air, forming a revolving structure, similar to a tornado.
According to experts at Sao Paulo’s Somar Meteorology Institute, a fire-devil is a whirling column of fire found within very specific atmospheric conditions and is a combination of high temperatures, turbulent winds, low air humidity and dry soil.
The fire whirl normally consists of a burning core and a rotating pocket of air, forming a revolving structure, similar to a tornado.
They are not usually classifiable as tornadoes as the vortex tends not to extend from the surface to cloud base.
Most famously, in 1923 the Great Kanto earthquake in Japan started large citywide fires that produced a gigantic fire devil. It struck parts of Tokyo and 38,000 people who were taking shelter at the Army Clothing Depot.

Incredible footage shows the huge tornado of flames - also known as a "fire devil" - arcing towards the sky with a series of explosions amd plumes of thick smoke.
The phenomenon took hold on farmland near Santa Helena de Goiás, central west Brazil.
Footage also seems to show someone with a fire-hose, although it's unclear how they plan on tackling the blaze.
Farm workers were clearing the lands with controlled fires when the tornado sprung out of the blaze.
A perfect storm of weather and climate conditions cultivated the fiery beast, which sent flames metres into the sky.
The "fire devil" was activated when a wind column passed over a burning parched area of land, turning smouldering embers into a full-blown flaming twister.
Meteorological experts at Sao Paulo’s Somar Meteorology Institute claimed the formation is one of the rarest natural occurrences.
They said the phenomenon only occurs in very specific atmospheric conditions and is a combination of high temperatures, turbulent winds, low air humidity and dry soil.
The whirlwind blaze normally consists of a burning core and a rotating pocket of air, forming a revolving structure - similar to a tornado.
There were a number of reported injuries from the tornado of flames before farmhands were able to get it under control.
According to Live Science, "Fire tornadoes, or fire whirls, ignite when a fire acquires a vertical rotating column of air.
"These weird weather events can be more than a half a mile tall and contain winds over 100 mph (161 kph).
"Most fire tornadoes form during wildfires and help the wildfire spread
"They may reach up to 200 feet (50 meters) tall
and have been known to uproot giant trees."

A bull rider in Albuquerque, New Mexico was lucky to escape alive after his boot and spur caught hold of a strap still attached to the bucking animal.
Emilio Resende, 24, crashed down on his neck and shoulders during the Ty Murray Invitational Sunday while still attached to Mr Slim, the white and black-spotted bull who continued its thrashing.
With both legs out in the air, the Brazilian rider from Santa Helena de Goiás posed a similar way to Mr Slim who kicked both hind legs out from its 1,500 pound body above him.
Rebounding from his landing, Mr Resende scored 19th place among the 23 other competitors who earned a score.
The Ty Murray Invitational held at The Pit features the top 35 bull riders in the world 'against the toughest bulls on the planet,' according to their website.
Mr Slim is estimated to buck off 74 per cent of his riders in an average time of 3.59 seconds, according to The Professional Bull Riders' website.
According their injury report two men were injured during Sunday's event.
One man sustained a concussion when struck in the head 'by Dark Shadow's horn' in round three. The injury stopped him from competing in the championship round.
A second man sustained a right thumb injury in round one, pulling him from the rest of the competition.
Mr Resende was not listed among the injured.
