More between Fulham FC and AFC Bournemouth at Craven Cottage on February 10, 2024 in London, England.
South Americans are stealing the spotlight in England on a weekly basis and Rodrigo Muniz is the latest Brazilian to hit the headlines in the Premier League.
The striker from São Domingos do Prata in Brazil scored a brace for Fulham on Saturday, as they triumphed 3-1 over visitors Bournemouth, in what are another 3 points that have Fulham feeling safe and secure in mid-table, free of the fear that a relegation battle might bring.
In fact, this win saw Fulham overtake their visitors in the table. The home team now sit 12th in the Premier League table, with the Cherris two points behind them in 13th position.
Muniz’s brace was the story of the day and the Brazilian provided two lovely strikers’ finishes to a delighted Craven Cottage crowd. As if hunting his prey, Muniz showed some fantastic movement and killer instinct to sneak into the Bournemouth box as if unnoticed, and on both occasions he made no mistake with some clinical finishing.
In particular for his second goal, Muniz showed brilliant poise at the back post, to fire Fulham back to a two-goal advantage as Bournemouth had scored just two minutes earlier. The timing of that goal was crucial and helped the hosts to hold onto their lead thereafter despite some good football from the visitors.
Muniz will hope this performance can win him some regular playing time in the Fulham starting XI. The forward arrived from Brazil in 2021 and has since had a less than spectacular loan spell with Middlesborough amongst inconsistent periods with the Craven Cottage Club.
Yet, Muniz looked unfazed on Saturday, he seemed comfortable and confident leading the line in a Premier League side. Let’s not forget Muniz is still just 22 and this was only his twelfth league appearance of the season.
Muniz made the move to London from Brazilian giants Flamengo in 2021 for just under $10 million. In 2020, as a teenager, he made a handful of appearances for the Rio de Janeiro club as they became Brazilian league and super cup champions, before scoring 5 league goals as Fulham returned to the Premier League in 2022. Muniz may not be a household name but he is certainly moving in the right direction.
He will feel at home in South-West London playing alongside countrymen in the form of Andreas Pereira and Willian; the latter provided the assist for Muniz’s second strike at the weekend.
Fulham have added a stunning new stand to their historic ground and bounced between the top two divisions in recent years, this is a big financial strain on the club. Yet they seem as settled as ever in the Premier League. With the help of some fabulous Brazilian flair, they aren’t just making up the numbers, as the likes of Arsenal have found out at Craven Cottage this season.

Fulham added to their striker core with the deadline day signing of Broja on February 1 — little did they know it

Fulham could very well hold off on splurging on a center forward this summer and instead put their trust in the Brazilian striker
Capable of holding up the ball with his bulky frame and allowing others to come into play
he is winning 3.2 aerial duels per 90 and can often seem like a magnet with his capacity to retain long balls and progress possession
The Glorious Resurgence of Willian at Fulham
He is adept at disrupting the opposing backline and entering the box with his cunning movement
constantly keeping defenders guessing with his relentless running and testing the goalkeeper with an average of 3.20 shots per match
Similar to legendary strikers like Edinson Cavani or Robert Lewandowski
Muniz is a multi-faceted threat whose clinical finishing
physical prowess and hold-up play allow him to affect the game not just as a scorer but as a playmaker as well
Alongside compatriots Willian and Andreas Pereira as well as Silva and Palhinha
Muniz is part of a growing Lusophone core that is making its mark on Fulham in their return to the Premier League and proving that the “yo-yo club” allegations of yesteryear are outdated
Fulham find themselves on course for a second-straight midtable finish
with the West London side currently sitting 13th in the table
Fulham will be looking to tie Muniz down to a long-term contract this summer and reward him with a sizable wage increase
Having racked up just seven goals in his first two seasons of English football across 45 appearances
he’s already registered 9 goals and 1 assist in 27 appearances for the Cottagers
Muniz is well on his way to following in the footsteps of Gabriel Jesus
Gabriel Martinelli and Roberto Firmino and becoming the latest Brazilian forward to take the Premier League by storm

we commemorated the 67 th birthday of Sandra Lima
Sandra Lima‘s life was a manifestation of the spirit or creative energy of women to emancipate themselves from the clutches of merciless exploitation
She displayed revolutionary resilience of single-mindedness and creativity at a height almost unparalleled amongst Brazilian women activists of her time
Her life story was one of integrating herself in the very heart and soul of the oppressed masses
Even when treading on the most tortuous paths she unflinchingly
embarked on her struggle for liberation of women
On International Women’s day some days ago
Sandra carves a permanent niche amongst great women revolutionary activists
Having been a victim from different illnesses throughout her life
Comrade Sandra Lima succumbed to a brain tumour on July 27
I wanted you to live a thousand years because we need you
Because the poor masses of our country need you,” one activist said at her wake
Sandra had outstanding grasp of Marxist Leninist ideology and displayed immaculate skill in devising forms of practice or mass work
From the very depths of despair she could resurrect ignite flame of revolutionary resistance and sharpen the striking capacity of the masses
It was Comrade Sandra Lima’s ever resilient or unflinching commitment to anti-revisionism and political debate that sowed the seeds for the PWM in Brazil
such as her role in a confrontation against the reformist October 8th Movement in 1995
she was able to extricate women from the futility of electoral politics and towards integrating them in Brazil’s revolutionary movement for Liberation
Her life story should be inscribed in red letters of gold
It was befitting reply to the merciless exploitation of women engulfing the whole globe
Sandra was living testimony of how in the gravest of times women would not bend and could rise like a phoenix from the Ashes
with even the steepest hurdles not extinguishing their spirit in battling the iron feet of oppression.
Exhibiting selfless spirit in intensity rarely transcended she never let health problems trap her work.
She devoted herself without reservation to the mobilization
combativeness and optimism was a permanent feature of her life
We need to resurrect her spirit today with imperialism and globalisation wiping out any remnants of democracy n every corner of the globe
Comrade Sandra Lima invested every ounce of energy of her life to the Brazilian Revolution
integrated with the masses in proletarian neighbourhoods and factories
fusing with the class-conscious workers and union movement
Sandra Lima moved permanently to Belo Horizonte in the 1970s
She attended part of high school at Colégio Estadual Central
an important setting of student resistance to the fascist military regime
Sandra established her baptism first contact with mass work in 1976
a working-class neighbourhood located on the outskirts of the cities of Belo Horizonte
She rapidly integrated herself into the heart of community life
the relentless spirit that would mark her as a future revolutionary militant
she helped organize adult literacy classes and cultural activities for proletarian youth; she actively participated in the construction of the health clinic and in the demonstrations to demand that the city government of Belo Horizonte reduce taxes and make improvements in the transportation and sanitation conditions of the neighborhood
It was while working at Lindéia that Sandra studied the work that would awaken her to fight against the oppression of women
by the great leader of the international proletariat
she became a militant in the October 8 Revolutionary Movement
She dedicated herself entirely to the revolution and to confront of the fascist military regime
Fusing with the class-conscious and combative workers’ movement
which had already led the strike at the steelmaker Mannesmann
to the confiscation of the streets of the mining capital by approximately 30 thousand striking construction workers
she began to intensely track the important paths of the fight against the oppression of women
Sandra encouraged her women comrades to play a vanguard role in the revolutionary struggle
It was with this spirit that she launched herself into construction of the Minas Gerais Federation of Women
she joined the group of revolutionary militants who demarcated from national reformism of the MR-8 and
Sandra fully gave her lie to the daunting and collective task of binding together the meandering paths of the Brazilian Revolution
the vital work of solidarity with the occupation was under the supervision of Sandra Lima
who was also in charge of providing the medical support network to the encamped families
she worked intensively in the support and organization of the proletarian women of Vila Bandeira Vermelha
during the brutal attack unleashed on the Vila by the forces of repression
A leader of the Popular Women’s Movement (Movimento Feminino Popular – MFP)
Sandra Lima was one of the main architects of the line of the Brazilian women’s revolutionary movement
She pioneered and crystallised this detachment of women who were more politically conscious
and more thirsty to eradicate the age-old oppression that has victimised them
She guided numerous acts in celebration of the International Working Women’s Day; she propelled n combative strikes; she relentlessly denounced the farcical character of the reactionary elections
She participated in peasant congresses and student assemblies
always stressing on the importance of training women as activists and
as leading cadres who sparkle the ideology of the proletariat to turn the country and the world upside down
An admirer of literature and art created by the people
she motivated young people to read the classics of Marxism and
listened and sang revolutionary and popular songs with companions and friends
garnering he people to fight and to rise up against all oppression
the struggles of the masses in the country and around the world
she left no stone unturned in acting in defence of the Palestinian people
of the heroic resistance of the peoples of Iraq and Afghanistan
She raised her powerful voice for the national liberation struggles of the peoples against imperialism and against the imperialist war
She led the campaign nationally for the punishment of criminals
murders and forced disappearances of the fascist military regime
staged memorable protests in repudiation of the 1964 coup
when the youth militants waved banner of resistance against the exploitative system and
the blazing flag of the MFP was always present in the front rows
Sandra Lima’s role is unforgettable in this event
lifting striking capacity of masses to optimum level.
Wholeheartedly she devoted herself to the Popular Women’s Movement engulfing different regions of Brazil especially in the countryside
Always in her interventions she paid attention to the need for the women of our people to engage in a shoulder-to-shoulder struggle with their activists and knit themselves as revolutionary cadres’ champion proletarian ideology

Not many players can claim to have joined Pele in scoring a bicycle-kick goal at the iconic Maracana
Fulham newcomer Rodrigo Muniz is one of them
Muniz joined that elite club this June. Deputising for Gabriel “Gabigol'”Barbosa
who was away playing for Brazil at the Copa America
and their injured Flamengo team-mate Pedro
he caught the eye of everyone watching across South America and beyond
Playing at the famous Rio de Janeiro ground against visitors Red Bull Bragantino in the Brazilian top flight
the imposing centre-forward flung his 6ft 1in frame skyward to meet a cross by full-back Matheuzinho
“I guess that’s when Fulham turned their attentions to him!” says Cahe Mota
who covers Flamengo for Brazilian TV’s Globo Esporte
Speculation linking him with the west London club rumbled on throughout the summer
and it would take almost a month for the transfer to transition from “it’s going to happen” to “official announcement”
his mysterious qualities and wildcard status — coupled with video clips of him burying bicycle kicks at one of the great cathedrals of the sport — have given rise to excitement at what the 20-year-old can offer
in a deal believed to be worth up to €4 million
the arrival of a replacement up front was inevitable
Muniz became the key target and No 1 on their wish list, with Marco Silva recommending the player to the board and playing an important role in persuading the player to sign for Fulham. It was a slow process and a long negotiation. Fulham were not the only club vying for a deal. Fellow Championship side Middlesbrough were also keen
with their chairman Steve Gibson flying to Portugal for in-person talks with Flamengo executives Marcos Braz and Bruno Spindel
An agreement appeared to be close at the end of July but then Muniz contracted COVID-19 and had to isolate in Brazil for 10 days
thought to be worth around €8 million in total
to be paid in instalments and with Flamengo getting a slice of any sell-on fee
As Brazil remains on the United Kingdom’s red list of countries for COVID-19 restrictions
Muniz then had to quarantine again before linking up with his new team-mates
It was decided this would take place in the city of Barcelona
he had his medical and his UK visa was organised
Fulham sent a member of staff out to Barcelona to work with him during his isolation
he then had to quarantine once again for another five days
“We signed a player that I know really well,” said manager Silva
“I followed him last season and at the beginning of this season at Flamengo
He is a player that came (recommended) from myself to the club
“He’s a young player who needs time to adapt
But he’s 20 years old and scored important goals for a big club in a tough
He’s a player that I have no doubts will be important for our squad in the present and the future.”
Muniz is the second Brazilian to play for Fulham after midfielder Lucas Piazon
who spent successive seasons on loan from neighbours Chelsea between 2016 and 2018
there are parallels with Richarlison’s move from Flamengo’s big Rio rivals Fluminense to his Watford side four years ago
If Muniz can have anything close to the impact the now-Everton forward has had on English football
Muniz, though, is a different type of player to the man who helped Brazil win gold at the Olympics football tournament last month
There isn’t much senior football data available to build a complete picture of him
This had a practical impact for sporting director Tony Khan’s recruitment team
who are thought to have used the player’s data at junior levels to establish his progress
Muniz joined Flamengo in 2018. He is originally from the small city of Sao Domingos do Prata
which is about 65 miles east of Belo Horizonte and 300 miles north of Rio
who is also a local singer performing under the stage name Alexandre Carvalho
in Porto Feliz which is north west of Sao Paulo — 350 miles from his hometown — at age 14
“They are a professional club where the agents put younger talents to develop,” says Globo Esporte journalist Mota
it’s a club built just for the agents to develop talents
Flamengo discovered him and brought him in.”
scoring 31 goals in 23 games in the under-15 Sao Paolo Championship in 2016
transitioning from a second striker into a No 9
and improved his physical build by the time he reached their under-20s
where he finished the season as top goalscorer in his team and in the Brazilian Under-20s Cup
He has previously said that he’d looked up to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ronaldo as a youngster
“In the under-17s, there were two forwards; in the under-20s, only one, so I was more of a No 9,” he told GloboEsporte.com in an interview last year
Muniz scored three goals in 351 minutes (three starts
He has featured more frequently in the Rio de Janeiro state championship
“He had a very big problem here,” says Mota
Flamengo has won nearly every title here in South America
They’ve won the Libertadores (the continent’s version of the Champions League)
“Flamengo has the No 9 for the Brazilian national team
who has also been called up for the national team and was at the Olympics
“That was Rodrigo’s competition (for a place in the team)
when they were away with the national team
“We have the state championship (Campeonato Carioca)
and the continental cup (Copa Libertadores)
and he played more in the state championship
But at the beginning of the national championship
when Gabigol was at the Copa America and Pedro was injured
Rodrigo had a few chances and scored many goals
In that June game against Red Bull Bragantino
showing his excellent positional sense as he pulled away from a defender and anticipated the second ball
…but Muniz was able to move his feet quickly to slot the ball home with his left foot
he’s not a striker who will score a solo goal,” says Mota
he can play like a pivot in futsal — he’s the most advanced player
“He’s not the most mobile but he has good positioning inside the box
If he has players to provide good opportunities for him then
Using smarterscout data, which you can read more about here
but is not the type to take a player on in a one-vs-one
a large proportion of his touches come in the penalty area
his disruption numbers show there is an aptitude to press the opposition from the front
but this data has to be caveated by his limited game time
Silva sees him as a player who will be most effective inside the 18-yard box

and after he’s really strong in the box with good service from the wide areas
He’s not someone who runs the channels every time
Sources in Brazil describe Muniz as a hard-working
who stayed committed and focused despite the strong squad competition at Flamengo
Muniz called himself a team player in his first interview at Fulham
and there is no indication that Muniz will immediately replace Mitrovic in the team
The Serbia international’s new five-year deal underlines that
But Muniz is a striker who holds much promise
once he has adapted and adjusted to life and football in England
“Fulham will be better for him than for them
But if you have the patience to wait for him to improve and to mature
he can be useful on the journey back to the Premier League.”

HE is the bargain bucket hot-shot who snubbed a multi-million pound fortune to chase his dream
The unknown Brazilian who has bagged more Premier League goals than Erling Haaland and Mo Salah over the last two months
And a striker on the summer wish-list of the club which fuelled his hopes when he was kicking a ball around on the dusty streets of Sao Domingos do Prata as a kid
If Rodrigo Muniz continues the form he’s shown for the last two months
those lifelong ambitions will come true before long
A red-hot eight-in-eight streak for Fulham has a host of clubs on alert
Not least boyhood heroes Manchester United
who have made another striker a priority signing
Yet had he taken a different path when with Flamengo back home, he’d already be made for life.
After little more than one season with the seniors, Al-Nasr made an eye-watering offer to try and tempt him to Dubai, in the UAE Pro League.
The prospect of a three-year contract on an annual tax-free salary of nearly £4million, plus goal bonuses, was hugely tempting... but a chat with coach Renato Gaucho changed all that.
Gaucho, a 41-cap ex-Brazil striker, insisted Europe was a wiser move and Fulham boss Marco Silva snapped him up
A weekly wage of around £7,500 on a five-year deal didn’t compare
His salary pales in comparison to other top strikers in the league with reports suggesting Erling Haaland is earning an estimated £375,000 per week
has not regretted his move for a second and he will be eternally in Gaucho’s debt
He told ESPN South America: “Thanks to him I made the right decision
At the time I was playing more at Flamengo due to injuries — but I knew as soon as our strikers were fit
“I told him all about the amount of money Al-Nasr was offering and was close to going ahead
You have proposals from Europe and Dubai and want to go to Dubai?’
The best road for your career is from Europe’.”
Life after his £8m Fulham move in 2021 started well, with five goals in a Championship-winning debut season
Yet while Fulham went up, Muniz joined Middlesbrough in a loan deal that was a nightmare
It meant he returned last summer having to prove himself again
By the start of February Muniz had just one goal in 18 appearances — then he really caught fire
The next seven weeks brought those eight goals, he is now rated in the £50m bracket and there is talk of a Brazil call for the Copa America
