From school days spent daydreaming about Formula One to returning to Brazil as an Aston Martin Aramco Test and Reserve Driver Felipe Drugovich delivers the inside track on his home country as we head to iconic Interlagos for the São Paulo Grand Prix Brazil is a vibrant nation that caters for every taste and thrills every sense As the F1 paddock heads for its annual reuniao in São Paulo, local hero and Aston Martin Aramco Test and Reserve Driver Felipe Drugovich takes you on a personal tour of his homeland – and the search for the best limes "Brazil isn't just São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro like a lot of people think it is It's a massive country and has other amazing big cities as well as incredible countryside and beaches that you must experience you need to spend a lot of time there to truly get a full appreciation of what the country has to offer and to see all sides of it São Paulo and Rio are the main cities that you need to see of course Most people only visit them and nothing else when they head to the country "Be sure to head inland and get to know some lesser-known parts of Brazil in the south where I'm from the landscape is similar to Europe with mountain ranges and rolling hills and fields "I grew up in a city called Maringá – it has about 400,000 people but that's small for Brazil It's very chilled out and very green as well I remember daydreaming in school when my teacher was explaining something; I would just be thinking about karting and racing lines I think 11-year-old me would be excited to hear he's going to be part of Aston Martin Aramco one day "The south is perhaps not what people expect when they think of Brazil but it's well worth visiting." "The beaches are what Brazil is arguably most famous for Along the north-east coast the beaches are amazing Every beach by the Atlantic coast – it doesn't really matter which – is beautiful; and is what I recommend seeing most of all on a trip to Brazil You can choose to go anywhere on the coast and they're all going to be incredible but Fortaleza and Bahia have particularly nice beaches "What makes a big difference with Brazilian beaches compared to elsewhere is you've got the ocean instead of the sea but when you go in the water you'll know what I mean – it's just better "There's a great vibe on the coast as well Everyone that lives there is chilled out; the whole atmosphere is very relaxing from the north to the south – that's thousands of kilometres of coast It's a totally different way of living to anywhere else." "Carnival happens across the country but the most famous is in Rio I've never been to that one because normally it happens during a race weekend early in the season but there are Carnival celebrations across the country when the time comes people love to party a lot and Carnival is the biggest example of that It's definitely something you need to attend if you're in Brazil around late February to early March." "One of the most famous drinks from Brazil is the Caipirinha cachaça – sugar cane liquor similar to rum – and lots of ice but you can only get an authentic tasting one in Brazil People don't have the right ingredients elsewhere to really do it justice "I'm not a big drinker so I'm no expert but I know that the sugar and the limes are very different in Brazil to elsewhere in Europe you need to add lots of sugar to make something taste sweet whereas in Brazil you need just a little bit and it tastes how it should It's also very hard to find good limes in certain places and in Brazil we use cachaça You really need to go to Brazil to experience a true Caipirinha a traditional main plate would consist of rice We have a dish called Feijoada which is a stew of black beans with various types of pork or beef "We also have a lot of barbecue food in Brazil and fantastic meat Churrasco is the name for grilled beef in South America; there's a big barbecue culture in Brazil and whenever I'm back home my friends and I will have one Our meat is probably better than anywhere else in the world apart from Argentina – we just lose out to them!" "Brazilians love F1 and I was immersed in it from a young age I watched F1 pretty much every weekend with my uncle My first memories are of sleeping at his house as a kid on Saturday night to wake up and watch on Sunday morning because of the time zones I would often just see the last lap or the podium and I'd just support whoever was winning so I would usually be cheering Michael Schumacher on "It's not just F1 and motorsport that Brazilians enjoy – there are so many sports you can get involved in when you're there football is huge in the country and some of the games generate a crowd and atmosphere to rival anywhere else in the world though I'm personally not a big football fan I love going to a river and getting on a jet ski or going wakeboarding I like to play tennis or golf – we've got some great weather in Brazil for most of the year so it's perfect for being outside "Whenever I'm back in Brazil it's always nice to catch up with my friends and play different sports." a lot of people visit São Paulo when the race is in town and there is a lot to explore I go there frequently because everything happens there business-wise I'll spend at least one week in São Paulo "One particularly nice place to visit in the city is Ibirapuera Park and it's also the most visited park in South America People go there to exercise or relax and it's a great spot inside the city to switch off and escape the hustle and bustle "The areas where most of the F1 paddock stays the best place to eat on Earth is probably São Paulo because there are so many options and so many variations There's great food and great restaurants wherever you go." "I’ve never driven a Formula car at Interlagos – only closed-roof cars – but it's a really fun track to drive "It's a small circuit but there's a lot of character to it At every corner you find different challenges especially at the Senna 'S' at the start of the lap where you brake and turn at the top of the hill and the track falls away through the entire section "You need to think a lot while you're driving at Interlagos It's not like you can take every corner the same way or with the same technique and there's a lot of history as well at the circuit "Interlagos also has a very cool F1 grid before the start of the Grand Prix because the fans are close to the cars and they're all shouting and cheering You'll often hear Ayrton Senna's name being sung but all the drivers get incredible support." "Perhaps I'm biased but Brazil rocks From the beaches to the cities to the countryside there's a huge amount you can do in my country I love going back in a Grand Prix weekend because São Paulo comes alive but I'm sure you'll love visiting no matter when you go." The airline Voepass said that the ATR 72-500 twin-engine turboprop was headed for São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport with 57 passengers and four crew members aboard when it crashed in Vinhedo. The company said it was prioritizing “unrestricted assistance to the victims’ families and effectively collaborating with authorities to determine the causes of the accident.” At an event in southern Brazil, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva asked the crowd to stand and observe a minute of silence as he shared the news. Firefighters, military police and the civil defense authority dispatched teams to the crash site. São Paulo’s public security secretary, Guilherme Derrite, spoke to reporters and confirmed that no survivors were found. He also said the plane’s “black box” data recorder was found, apparently intact. “I thought it was going to fall in our yard,” a resident who gave her name only as Ana Lucia told reporters near the crash site. “It was scary, but thank God there were no victims among the locals. It seems that the [61] people inside the plane were the real victims, though.” Video obtained by the Associated Press from a bystander and verified shows at least two bodies near flaming pieces of wreckage. Brazilian TV network GloboNews showed aerial video of an area on fire with smoke coming out of an obliterated plane fuselage. Additional video on Globo- News earlier showed the plane drifting downward vertically, spiraling as it fell. The plane departed from Cascavel, in the state of Parana. (This article has been translated from the original in Portuguese) and I’ve even posed as a guitarist with a badass guitar that Ferrari released once from the time I was just a baby in my crib the sounds of my life have  come from the rumble under the hood and from the rubber screaming on the asphalt If you know the classic Brazilian song “Sampa,” then you understand what I mean when I say that something happens in my heart every time I come back to that special place south of Ipiranga and São João Avenue Every time that November and the Brazilian Grand Prix arrive and anxious to be at Interlagos once again I have slept in so many cities that I lost count But no place moves me as much as this little part of the south of São Paulo I think the great emotions I felt in all these years in motorsport somehow converge on the curves on the unparalleled straight of Interlagos Maybe the only way to understand this is sitting inside a cockpit He participated in a competition called Brands and Drivers because this was not an issue that my childhood imagination could not correct there are a lot of colored pencils scattered around and when the last pencil reaches the first But my colorful racetrack was born with two fundamental characteristics for me my father would always be in front of everyone I would “drive” four or five toy cars through the pencil track and at the end of as many laps as I could manage before my mother called for dinner There is a lot of my father in my relationship with Interlagos and my career as a driver I always keep a special place for Michael Schumacher a generous and special guy I was lucky enough to cross paths with but if you ask me who my idol in motorsport is and took me to ride on empty dirt roads and amateur football fields I fell so in love with the challenge that it was for me that it didn’t take long for me to announce: “Dad he thought things were getting kind of dangerous for such a small boy but knowing that giving up the adrenaline was no longer a possibility for me the magic that had started in my colored pencil Interlagos on the bedroom floor grew and took over my life we keep my first jumpsuit and go-kart shoes as witnesses of what would become the most exciting adventure of my life and feel that indescribable emotion and pleasure And I wanted all this to happen with me speeding through Interlagos I’d been improving as a driver and progressing The plastics factory he owned with his brothers went bankrupt Apart from the family suffering and the general apprehension it was the best thing that could ever happen to me I realized that if I wanted to continue feeling that joy of driving in Interlagos besides the calluses I already had on my hands due to karting The situation was quite simple: there was no money so I had to do whatever I could to find some kind of support and nothing meant a goodbye to Interlagos and the need to search for a “real job.”  We had to look for sponsorship — any companies that would help a kid who was enthusiastic about motorsport I will forever feel grateful to the people who helped me keep my passion alive I had a tough time having a competitive car But it never crossed my mind to stop at the guardrail and call a tow truck to take my dream away I learned that if you really love something I went to race in Formula Chevrolet and could only compete for half the year I didn’t have the money to run all year long I was the Brazilian champion in my category A good problem: if I wanted to continue my love story with motorsport And this path would take me to Europe and possibly to Formula 1 which in this context finally became a goal My money was enough to compete in six races of the Formula Renault championship I learned day-by-day in the garage with the team’s mechanics I need to watch myself so I don’t accidentally say cazzo or some other swear words My accommodation was the cellar of the team owner’s house so many that they thought it would be better to let me compete in the entire season’s 10 races I became a champion in my first year in Europe while sleeping in a wine cellar Damn … things were happening faster than I ever dreamed… I had some surreal encounters at that time “I’ve watched you a lot and followed your success in Formula Renault I’m just not interested in closing a deal with you right now Here’s what you do: go out there and win Formula 3000 a contract with Ferrari will be waiting for you here on my desk.” I signed a contract to be a Ferrari driver there is nothing like the devotion of the Ferrari fans was one of the most wonderful feelings I’ve ever had and in the blurred landscape that passed by the corners of my eyes my life would take a crazy turn once again I was paid based on performance: $50,000 per point earned — and I earned four But I had some … let’s say challenging races and I returned to Ferrari as a test driver But I don’t think you can even say it was a reverse gear Having experienced this so closely and for so long was fantastic the first thing people want to know is: “What about Ferrari?” Those guys love Ferrari and treat the drivers and everyone who works in the scuderia like we are family No wonder they say that when you get into Ferrari you go into the famiglia and never leave again my job was to go to the track and train with Schumacher a privilege I am still grateful for every time I wake up in the morning My first year with Ferrari was worth about 10 years of learning anywhere else in terms of adjusting the car to my driving style and I think it ended up becoming a master-and-pupil thing There was a lot of respect on my part and a huge desire to learn the secrets and details that make for an outstanding driver I wanted to be better than Schumacher in training This is the kind of respect that real geniuses expect from us I think I managed to respond in the best way in 2006 by taking the pole position over the master and winning in Turkey He loved the Suzuka racetrack and reigned there for so many years So it was historic for me to beat him in Japan It was an emotion as strong as what I felt driving in F1 for the first time with that film of my life playing on the side of the track What I could barely imagine was that the last race of that year had even better things in store for me Thirteen years since a Brazilian had won at home Fifteen years since Ayrton Senna’s epic victory in 1991 — for me the most spectacular chapter in the history of Formula 1 So I left the traditional red Ferrari firesuit in the closet for the first time I thought the occasion deserved an extravagance and the team allowed me to wear a green-and-yellow one Paul-Henri Cahier/GettyI led the race from start to finish and took the checkered flag almost without seeing it The victory took me back to my childhood days a just-retired Schumacher said to me at the end of the race: “I’m happy that you’re the one who’s going to take over my car.” Cazzo Coming from a teacher as demanding and laconic as him those words resonated with me like the lyrics of a song that I memorized and sing to this day I returned to Interlagos at the culmination of my F1 journey The season had been played point for point with Hamilton I had five victories until that last and decisive Brazilian GP I needed to come first and hope that Hamilton finished below sixth place I was worried about the points I had lost in Hungary with the engine breaking three laps from the end Interlagos was the perfect Interlagos of my dreams The magical Interlagos that crystallized in my imagination as a child: with a low when the information came over the radio: Hamilton had overtaken Vettel But how can I avoid the disappointment of not becoming the world champion in my city That almost in Interlagos would remain deep within me to this day except that the frustration gave way to a brutal feeling of injustice The trick that actually — and not the result at Interlagos — took away that 2008 title from me It was supposed to be a historic milestone in F1: the 800th Grand Prix in the category orchestrated a deliberate crash of Nelson Piquet Jr who had taken the pole and was leading the race at the time to return to the track before the refueling hose had been removed I ended up losing a lot of positions and finished the race without scoring But we actually learned the truth about the manipulation a year later confessed in an interview that he knew everything and did nothing because he wanted to “protect the sport and save it from a huge scandal.” Lucas Seixas for The Players' TribuneBeing defeated fraudulently is revolting And sweeping the dirt under the rug is vile The world of sport needs an answer and deserves reparation I can say that I still live with a tremendous feeling of injustice and you must be wondering why the hell I haven’t talked about the maledetto spring that escaped Rubinho’s car in 2009 and hit me square in the forehead… I blacked out instantly and only woke up in the hospital days later These were moments of great anguish for them wanting for an answer to a question I only asked myself:  Will I be able to race at Interlagos again and my career continued for another eight years in Formula 1 two seasons in Formula E and now in Stock Car Some people think that the accident damaged me technically and that I would no longer be the driver I used to be I prefer to be grateful for what I was able to experience rather than speculate about what I could have experienced Lucas Seixas for The Players' TribuneIf you want to know because it didn’t completely erase my memory It would be terrible not to remember the crayons on the carpet and where those moments led me and I want to experience it once again with everything I’m entitled to now fighting for the right to recover a trophy that was taken from me That’s why I always want to remember the colors I want to remember all the good things that happen in my heart when I’m in Interlagos I want the next time I write here to be about my first championship in F1.” You Want to Know the Real Pierre?Pierre Gasly on his relationship with Red Bull losing his friend Anthoine Hubert “Demolition Man” Lobo could be on the cusp of another shot at the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title On December 8 in U.S. primetime, the #2-ranked contender will rematch #3-ranked Saemapetch Fairtex in a crucial contest that promises fireworks at ONE Fight Night 17: Kryklia vs. Roberts on Prime Video. View this post on Instagram A post shared by ONE Championship (@onechampionship) This will be Lobo’s fifth fight in the world’s largest martial arts organization where he’s steadily solidified his status as one of the planet’s best and most entertaining strikers Before he attempts to beat Saemapetch once again at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok we take a deep dive into “Demolition Man’s” winding path to the global stage of martial arts Born and raised in the favelas of Sao Paulo Lobo comes from a humble family in which every member did their part to make ends meet He spoke to onefc.com about his hard-scrabble upbringing:  “I started working very early to help my family. When I was 12, 13 years old, I helped my mother selling snacks. We had a childhood where we matured very quickly. From an early age, we learned the value of money.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by ONE Championship (@onechampionship) Given the rough neighborhoods of his childhood, Lobo also quickly learned the importance of defending himself. While he certainly didn’t go looking for fights, the Brazilian says they found him. Reserved and soft-spoken by nature, he never allowed himself or his loved ones to be a victim: “I was always a very shy child. I’m the oldest of the brothers, and I always had to take care of them. I was always very homely. I was shy, but at the same time, I was a brawler. “I didn’t like anyone invading my space. I didn’t like little jokes. I was always a calm child, but at the same time, aggressive. I didn’t like anyone messing with me or my family.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Felipe Lobo (@felipe_lobo_mt) Showing no shortage of raw athleticism and a penchant for aggression, the teenage Lobo found his calling first in boxing and then in Muay Thai. For the latter, he began training in “the art of eight limbs” at his cousin’s Team Amatha: “At 15, I started boxing, and I fell in love. I quickly started to stand out and became more and more passionate about martial arts. “And then at 16, 17 years old I also started practicing Muay Thai with my cousin, Rodrigo Amatha.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Felipe Lobo (@felipe_lobo_mt) The young striker achieved rapid success in Brazil’s ruthlessly competitive regional Muay Thai scene. After proving his mettle against some of his country’s top talent, Lobo then made the life-changing decision to relocate to Thailand, where he would train with and fight against elite competitors in the birthplace of Muay Thai. “I won several championships before I fought at Portuarios Stadium, which was the first Muay Thai stadium in Brazil, and I won the belt. Then my cousin said it was time for me to go to Thailand and fight against the best. “I talked to my family and my friends. We raised money, and I managed to buy a ticket to Thailand.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Felipe Lobo (@felipe_lobo_mt) “Demolition Man’s” move to Thailand would jump-start his journey to stardom, setting in motion his climb to ONE Championship. But while the change of scenery ultimately paid huge dividends in his competitive career, it was also quite challenging for Lobo on a personal level: “The biggest obstacle I faced in my life was living abroad. I had never been away from my family, and at the age of 20, I came to live in Thailand. “It was very difficult to adapt and be away from my family. For four, five months, I was very sad and cried a lot. It was the most difficult moment of my life.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Felipe Lobo (@felipe_lobo_mt) Thousands of miles from Brazil, it should come as no surprise that Lobo felt homesick and experienced plenty of culture shock. However, with his unshakeable faith and determination to achieve greatness, he persevered through the hard times: “It was a very radical change in my life. It was all new, a different culture, but I was always very attached to God, and my family always helped me by praying and giving me good energy. “That was how I managed to overcome it at the time, as it was a very difficult life transition.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Felipe Lobo (@felipe_lobo_mt) Since joining ONE back in 2020, the Sao Paulo native has won three of four thrilling battles, taking out some of the planet’s most feared strikers and losing only to then-ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nong-O Hama. Still living far away from home, Lobo has established himself as a bona fide ONE superstar – an electrifying fighter who remains firmly in the World Title picture. Through it all, he hasn’t once lost sight of where he comes from and is motivated by the chance to provide a better life for his parents and siblings: “My biggest inspiration is my family. They give me the strength I need to continue. I always think about them. We went through a lot of difficulties, so I always think about what we went through, and I think all the time about helping them. This is what gives me the strength to continue doing what I love.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by ONE Championship (@onechampionship) Former Ferrari driver Felipe Massa says he is ready to take Formula One’s governing body to court to press his claims that he was “robbed” of the 2008 title which he lost by one point to Lewis Hamilton Massa said in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday that he has given governing body FIA and Formula One Management until the end of next week to respond to a letter the Brazilian sent them this month in which he claims both had “deliberately ignored the misconduct (at the Singapore Grand Prix) that stripped him of that title.” The Brazilian added he is “100% ready” to take the case to court if he hears nothing back before then “I trust and I really believe that for justice that we will show what happened was not correct,” the 42-year-old Massa told the AP at his apartment in Sao Paulo. “I am the champion, and I feel that. I feel that I have the title. The 16th champion of Formula One for Ferrari We proved that season that we deserved it.” Massa’s claim centers around an infamous crash by Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr. in Singapore in 2008, which led to a drawn-out scandal the following year after claims that he had crashed deliberately in order to help teammate Fernando Alonso win the race Massa decided to take action following an interview by former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone in March in which he said he learned in 2008 that the crash had been deliberate — long before Piquet Jr made those claims himself the following year Ecclestone said he deliberately chose not to investigate the Singapore crash until after the end of the season when it was too late to change the standings Massa argues that such a decision was a breach of contract accusing the two bodies of failing to preserve the integrity of the sport Piquet Jr.’s crash came at a point in the race when Massa was in the lead and it brought out a safety car that squandered the Brazilian’s advantage — while giving Alonso a massive edge as he was the only driver who had already made a pit stop to refuel Massa went on to finish out of the points in 13th place after a calamitous pit stop while Hamilton finished third in that race The British driver won the first of his seven titles that year after a dramatic fifth-place finish at the Brazilian Grand Prix Renault was given a suspended two-year ban from F1 in 2009 over the crash and its then team boss Flavio Briatore was banned indefinitely from the sport although that punishment was later reduced “I lost my my peace because I knew that I was robbed,” Massa said Surrounded by Ferrari items and trophies at his home Massa said his potential lawsuit “is nothing against” Hamilton “This is against a race that was manipulated,” Massa said “(The 2008 season) was an incredible championship It was a big fight from the beginning to the end I was the driver who won more races that year who started in pole position more times as well.” Massa said so far the only response he has received from Formula One was a request for him not to show up at this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza where some Ferrari fans have started placing banners calling him the real 2008 champion “It doesn’t change anything for our fight.” Massa said his friends and family tried for many years to convince him to sue for the 2008 title but he only decided to take action after he read Ecclestone’s interview and saw unpublished footage this year of an interview by former F1 race director Charlie Whiting Massa retired from the sport in 2017 after spending the last four years of his career at Williams “Formula One now is a different from Formula One from then the FIA now is different from the FIA of the past,” the Brazilian said “I really hope they understand that what happened in the past was not fair for the sport and I really hope that they fix the case.” Sign up for our weekly newsletter to get more English-language news coverage from EL PAÍS USA Edition ¿Quieres añadir otro usuario a tu suscripción ¿Por qué estás viendo esto? cambia tu suscripción a la modalidad Premium Cada uno accederá con su propia cuenta de email lo que os permitirá personalizar vuestra experiencia en EL PAÍS ¿Tienes una suscripción de empresa? Gabriel Geraldo dos Santos (C) topped an all-Brazilian podium in the men's 50m butterfly Sao Paulo’s stage of the World Para Swimming World Series came to an end on Saturday in the same way as it began, with a huge haul of medals for the hosts and records smashed throughout the day. Gabriel Geraldo dos Santos from Brazil broke the world record* in the men’s 50m butterfly S2 as he clocked 1.06.53 He shaved almost five seconds off the previous mark of 1.11.26 set by fellow Brazilian Bruno Becker, who took bronze. It was a clean sweep on the podium for Brazil, with multi-Paralympic champion Daniel Dias claiming silver, his fifth medal of the Sao Paulo event. “I cannot put into words what I am feeling right now. I am absolutely delighted and it is a privilege to be alongside Daniel Dias on the podium”, said the 17-year-old swimmer. Another youngster who stood out was 18-year-old-Argentinian swimmer Iñaki Basiloff who scored the men’s 400m in 4.45.74, a new Americas S8 record. After her stellar performance in the 100m breaststroke a day earlier, Maria Carolina Gomes finished her performance in Sao Paulo off by winning the 100m butterfly (1.07.09). Paralympic medallist Phelipe Rodrigues got gold in the men’s 100m butterfly by touching the wall in 59.60. Brazil’s dominance also continued in the longer distances, as Cecilia Araujo got the best in the women’s 400m freestyle with 5.18.78. Felipe Caltran won the men’s 200m freestyle in 2.03.58 and Ana Karolina Soares took the women’s 200m freestyle (2.18.76). The Sao Paulo World Series featured 250 swimmers from 16 countries. Four world records were broken and nine new Americas records set. *Subject to ratification by World Para Swimming To run any business requires structure and strategy. But in the art world, there isn’t an accepted playbook of how to build and run a gallery. That said, the founders of Mendes Wood DM The trio—who describe themselves respectively as “visionary,” “spiritual advisor,” and “mastermind”—met as idealistic young men energized by the philosophy of art and the poetry of life The basis for the gallery was really a friendship circle or a “thread of affection,” as they call it “We’ve done like a superhuman amount of hosting,” explained Wood In Paris during the early 2000s, Mendes and Wood were studying the philosophy of art and hanging around the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, where the duo were inspired by relational aesthetics and the performance of life. When Mendes’s sister introduced them to the Brazilian artist Sônia Gomes you need to sell some of this,’” recalled Mendes of the artist’s fabric wearable sculptures the Fondation Cartier was holding an exhibition While Gomes’s work may not have been included in the exhibition Mendes continued to wear or bring Gomes’s work to parties and people’s homes around the city eventually beginning to sell pieces to top Parisian collectors But it would still be a few years until the commercial operation became fully fledged but a peripatetic impulse led him to Europe well before he was awarded a high school diploma Brazil’s agricultural and industrial county seat Mendes lured Wood back to Brazil where the two decided to open a residency in Belo Horizonte in the middle of nowhere,” explained Mendes It also happened to be the location where most of the artists that the gallery works with today hail from are the linchpins in the formation of the gallery and its continued success today This is as true for the gallery’s staff as it is for the artists on its roster: Mage Abàtayguara-Örneberg was hired as an intern in 2010 and is now a partner “There [are] three people that we started representing before we started having a gallery,” explained Wood and Arruda as the foundation of their gallery concept “All of our artists come from us,” said Wood Paulo NazarethDois Mineiros Preto y um Capitao do Mato dos Dragoes Reais, 2019Mendes Wood DMInquire about availability That materialized into the first gallery space—debuting with an Arruda solo show—in 2009 in São Paulo served as “an Athenian square where people gathered talking about things.” The gallery freewheeled through its first year or so for as Mendes explained: “There was never a business plan There was never any other plan than just to pay our rent also happened to be next-door to a fledgling gallery concept run by Felipe Dmab and Dmab had more experience in the art world than simply knocking on doors and the “master strategist,” as Wood says of Dmab “Immediately in a way that no one else has understood the vision and the scope of things I think when we established that there was a real brotherhood between us,” said Wood Solange PessoaDomingas, 2023Mendes Wood DMInquire about availability That’s when the three knew that their operation was ready for the big leagues that meant applying and exhibiting in international fairs like Art Basel and Frieze “In the beginning when we did a beastly amount of art fairs because there was no way to put Brazil out there Looking back at works sold during that period from 2009 to 2012 the power of their relationships had a lasting impact: “Even then when a work [by Gomes or Arruda] was like a $2,000 thing you put it in a collection that still has it on the wall and loans it out [to institutions] and hasn’t sold it.” Many of those $2,000 works are now worth six figures as Mendes recalled: “We needed an embassy elsewhere We had so many people and visitors who are outside of Brazil.” Part-joke Mendes Wood DM frames their own operation as a diplomatic enterprise: “Our first spaces were consulates and then they became embassies The gallery has always been deeply Brazilian—convivial diverse—but what’s often glossed over in understanding a Brazilian context is its diverse and Asian—where roots are strong both at home and abroad More than 50% of Brazil is of African descent Mendes Wood DM was the first gallery to represent living Afro-Brazilian artists the gallery’s appointment of Renato Silva to partner Installation view of “I see no difference between a Handshake and a Poem” at Mendes Wood DM Paris the gallery launched internationally by committing to a space in Brussels a signal of “this desire to show Brazilian art in other places and bring international artists to Brazil,” Mendes explained The gallery brought in Carolyn Drake Kandiyoti as the founding European partner to help anchor it in the region and followed it with ambitious shows by the likes of Pessoa New York is where the largest community of the gallery’s collectors reside Mendes Wood DM reunited with the city of its youth with its first Parisian gallery housed in a unique space on the 17th-century Place de Vosges “Sometimes you complete a cycle where you began and the last note is the first note,” said Wood who recounted recently speaking to his “kid” sister who spent time in Paris with Wood and Mendes in the early 2000s: “She was like you always said you would have an art space in Paris Dmab added: “I feel that Paris is a melting pot for the exchange of ideas and a very inspiring ground for business.” The trio behind the gallery sees it as fate but also a testament to how they’ve run their operation with the people in for the ride along the way “We’ve managed to keep a community,” Wood said “I’m a great believer in the idea that you can actually do business while being nice while being peripatetic while being poetic.” With four spaces and nearly 50 represented artists Brazil is among the 34 nations taking part in the World Mixed Curling Championship 2023 this week at Curl Aberdeen in Scotland While this was the sixth appearance by Brazil in this event the current team is marking a unique achievement on behalf of the Brazilian Ice Sports Federation all of Brazil’s players on the world stage have been based abroad in the shape of Fabiana Campos and Felipe Pires — the married couple who makes up the team’s front end — Brazil is represented for the first time by players who had come into the sport through the new dedicated curling facility in Sao Paulo but really got started only after the pandemic Activities there include a club championship and when Fabiana and Felipe came along to that event as curious outsiders “Felipe persuaded me to go to the championship things are different and reflecting on the journey the couple has made “I’m enjoying it all very much and I’m really pleased to be here.” Reflecting on the momentous nature of their journey The impact of having a dedicated facility in Brazil has been marked As skip Sergio Mitsuo Vilela — who is also a member of the World Curling Federation Board — explains After two years we have 650 people registered… all people who have attended and gone through basic training “So that’s the type of impact that you’re going to make through having a facility.” start out where you try to find people who are abroad and already know how to play This is a good way to start in the short term “If you have dedicated ice and people able to teach them “While it’s important that you bring people in to teach curling you also need to have people capable of teaching others how to teach curling.” Sergio goes on to explain that progress is happening at a fair old pace “In partnership with the Brazilian Paralympic Committee and they will be making their debut at the world wheelchair championship and the world mixed doubles “We are going to be at the Youth Olympic Games in February with a Canadian-based team we are sure that the next junior teams will come from Brazil itself.” Brazilian curling is also making progress in other areas that will bear fruit in the future “The Sportsian Olympic Committee has recognized us for some while curling had a project approved by the Sports Incentive project of the government’s Sports Ministry It means we can be sponsored and supported by private companies and they get tax relief on their investment It also shows the growing level of influence that curling has in Brazil.” This development gives the Brazil team the right and obligation to proudly wear the highly-regarded official mark of the Brazilian sports incentive law (lei de incentive ao esports) on their uniform as well as the official seal of the Brazilian Federal Government (Assinaturas Principal – Sports Ministry) what was made possible by fellow São Paulo Curler and now Team Manager Andrea Carlana skip Sergio and third player Fernanda Marques living in Switzerland and members of the Grasshoppers Curling Club under now two times Brazilian Coach Nicole Hirsig had already targeted participation in Aberdeen making the decision at the top of a rollercoaster in Italy When they came across Fabiana and Felipe at the Sao Paulo championship Fabiana and Felipe will go on to compete in the World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event Although competition is their main focus while in Scotland the team has also taken the opportunity to visit some historic sites such as nearby castles and ancient standing stones “We see there are a lot of sheep here,” they noticed no tourist visit to Scotland would be complete without a trip to a whisky distillery Update: Not everything up to this point has been the perfect fairytale one would expect for such journey as the hospitalization followed by the passing away of someone dear to the couple led the team to play one game with three players and eventually forfeiting another one altogether it’s not clear if the team will have the mental head space to continue in the competition Home / News / From São Paulo to Aberdeen: Brazilian Mixed Team emerges from dedicated curling facility AMF1 Sao Paulo was a very emotional race for you Probably then and there it really dawned on you that you are retiring from Formula One racing but I also became aware that I maybe will miss something I love to drive - but I am also convinced that it is the right thing to do Race winner Felipe Massa (BRA) Ferrari F2007 celebrates at the finish then for Felipe Massa Formula One is no more How will Monday morning after Abu Dhabi feel but I think that there is the same amount of things I definitely will not miss If you are entrenched in a world of competition for so long then it becomes second nature - and then stopping sure creates a certain void So I will have to fill that void with other things Q: When you look back you have competed against numerous world champions: Michael Schumacher Lewis Hamilton - and some of them have also been your team mates… FM: That’s what I mean when I say that I will miss the competition - to compete against the best I will also miss not being involved anymore in the technology that makes F1 - having to sharpen your senses with every new regulation change Q: What are the things that you definitely will not miss I like to travel - but lately it has become simply too much And then little things - but those I will keep to myself (Laughs) I am proud of my decision - even if walking back to the paddock in Sao Paulo almost overwhelmed me The feedback from the fans in that very moment gave me goose bumps - and made me proud of my career You have probably spent the best years of your life in F1 And most things happened at the Ferrari winter events in Madonna di Campiglio - when we were on ‘professional fun time’ going down the slopes with a bottle of vodka underneath the anorak - to keep warm… He was also your team mate and arguably one of the funniest guys in the paddock even when he doesn’t necessarily mean to be to be honest working with Kimi was sometimes a bit painful because he is not really interested to talk (Laughs) Sometimes a simple ‘hello’ or ‘good morning’ is already too much for him But catch him in a different condition and he is completely different: he can’t stop talking and is great fun we are completely different about almost everything but he is very fair - and that was the glue that kept us together It’s a bit like with Valtteri (Bottas) - even if I have to say that Valtteri talks a bit more than Kimi Q: That all sounds like that you’ve been always fond of your team mates there is also the professional level - the competition Sometimes you are not happy because you are behind try to do better and then rivalry - in my career always a ‘healthy’ one - starts to set in chats with team mate Felipe Massa (BRA) Ferrari In many ways he was my master - it was a very different relationship to all my other team mates Q: Who was closest to you out of all the guys who occupied the garage next to you but I looked at him always like an idol - something like ‘Gee I want to be like you!’ He was probably looking at me like the little guy whom he wanted to help It was a very different relationship to all my other team mates Maybe that is why I decided to announce my retirement in Monza Kimi had already signed a contract with Ferrari two years before he actually drove for them - and the only way for me to stay with Ferrari was for Michael to retire He was probably a bit tired - and maybe he was also thinking ‘Felipe is doing a good job but that is why I also did it in Monza 2016 - 10 years later Q: Can you remember when you changed from a naive young driver coming into Formula One all happy and smiles to somebody more thick skinned and probably more wary of his team I think I was always pretty open with the media I was a bit careful when I was with Ferrari as we were given a lot of orders on what to say - which Q: When you look back over 15 years in Formula One have there been times you felt uncomfortable In that situation I thought ‘Maybe I am too nice!’ I know that I get a lot of compensation for this in many other areas in life - but probably not necessarily in F1 as in this sport you need to be aggressive - but then this wouldn’t have been me any longer And I definitely was never a ‘Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ kind of person what is the next step in the life of Felipe Massa but am not ready to say anything right now What I can say is that nothing is decided yet I want to build something that has a value for longer but that is just the outline of a bigger plan VideoWATCH: Verstappen handed penalty for pit lane collision with Antonelli in eventful Miami Sprint VideoMUST-SEE: Leclerc collides with the wall ahead of Miami Sprint in wet conditions F1 ACADEMY: Chambers snatches pole in one-lap wet Miami shootout VideoSPRINT START: Watch the rain-soaked opening lap of the Miami Sprint as Piastri snatches lead from Antonelli ‘Just to get into Q3 is tough’ – Hamilton admits Ferrari ‘struggling big time’ after exiting Miami Qualifying in P12 © 2003-2025 Formula One World Championship Limited A closer look at Reading’s latest transfer targets Brazilian duo: Felipe Araruna and Igor Liziero Reading have reportedly held talks with São Paulo over two of their midfielders: 23 year-old Felipe Araruna and 21 year-old Igor Liziero. Both deals are believed to be as a result of Alexandre Mattos’s recent appointment as sporting director. The Brazilian pair are not the first central midfielders that the club have been linked with this month adding further fuel to the rumour that Reading are keen to add to that area of their squad Here is a closer a look at both players’ careers to date Araruna is a 23 year-old defensive midfielder who can also play as a right-back He has recently returned from a loan spell away from São Paulo with fellow Brazilian side Fortaleza Araruna’s contract is up at the end of the calendar year meaning the Royals may be able to agree a slightly lower fee for his services The 5”9 midfielder came through the youth ranks at São Paulo where his talent was spotted by club legend Rogério Ceni when he was playing for the ‘U-20 multi-player team’ Araruna went on to make 19 league appearances for his boyhood club before joining Fortaleza on loan just one day prior to manager Dorival Júnior’s sacking Araruna has been praised for his work rate and decision making; he is a fairly well-rounded player and can play further up the pitch if called upon he has faced criticism in the past for his ‘negative’ style of play and occasionally passing sideways too often rather than looking to thread the ball forward The 23 year-old doesn't have a vast amount of appearances under his belt in recent years and may struggle to make the step up to Championship football: a league with usually at least two games a week Araruna has reportedly received multiple overseas offers and will make up his mind within the next few days; admittedly it is less than likely that Berkshire will be his destination Liziero has been linked with moves to European giants Barcelona and Real Madrid over the past three months so Reading is the obvious choice for him.. The youngster is very highly-rated and has featured over 60 times for São Paulo’s first team already Liziero came through the club’s academy to make his debut for the senior team under caretaker manager André Jardine The 21 year-old’s physical presence in the middle of the park has proved pivotal in some of São Paulo’s recent wins and he has drawn comparisons to compatriot and former São Paulo star Casemiro Liziero boasts a ball-winning prowess and has been referred to as an intelligent reader of the game with impressive man-marking and interceptions In addition to this defensive side of his game Liziero is a natural free-kick taker and can impose himself when going forward with exceptional vision and an eye for the right pass; he completed 89% of all attempted passes in 2019 The Royals have been linked with a deal worth €7 million for Liziero; this would be paid in instalments rather than up front in order to avoid any issues with Financial Fair Play regulations similar to the deal for George Pușcaș last summer It’s been suggested that Reading are keen on bringing Liziero in on loan before signing him permanently São Paulo are not happy with the proposal of an initial loan so the talks have reportedly stalled Only time will tell how eager the Royals are to bring Liziero to Berkshire Both players already have European passports so they wouldn't struggle to gain a work permit It seems odd that Reading should sign both Araruna and Liziero; however if they came as a pair then it may cushion the inevitable culture shock If the rumours are true then Alexandre Mattos is not messing about - let’s just hope he turns out better than Ron Gourlay.. brazilian architect felipe hess has designed ‘casa lara’; a generous and light-filled home nestled in between two gardens on either side in são paulo formed as three stacked volumes with contrasting materials and sizes the living areas have been clustered together on the ground floor and decorated in a retro and contemporary style featuring a sun deck and a curtain-wrapped shelter which hosts an outdoor dining and kitchen area with panoramic views over the city the ground floor spills onto the plant-filled garden each floor and each space throughout the property has been organized to seamlessly merge with its unspoiled surroundings the front garden serves as an open-air lobby as well as a screen for privacy- obscuring the dynamic property from public view concrete flooring and a stone wall is seen in the living room the home is nestled in the middle of two garden casa lara is formed using natural materials the middle timber level is supported by the neighboring walls the three supplementary blocks were constructed from varying materials to ensure their individuality a floating staircase leads to the top floor a concrete shelter sits overlooking the city with a kitchen and outdoor dining AXOR presents three bathroom concepts that are not merely places of function but destinations in themselves — sanctuaries of style Laura Donaldson is a Newsweek Film and TV Reporter (SEO) She has covered shows such as 'The Bachelorette' Laura joined Newsweek in 2022 and has previously worked at Grazia and OK! 'I'm going to pick him,' and I didn't want to push her or anything Gomes also commented on the comparisons that have been made between him and love rival Fins Some fans were quick to point out a resemblance between the two men when Fins first arrived on Love Island and commented that Boerner's decision at the recoupling must have been made harder by the rivals' similarities I didn't have much chance to talk to Bryce but Courtney did like both of us!" Gomes said so we are similar—we are almost the same age as well." When asked what astonished him the most about his Love Island experience Gomes was quick to heap praise on the show's production team saying they surprised him "in a good way" and supported him behind the scenes He said: "Everyone who is working on the production is a really lovely person The people on the outside just see what's on the TV." Elaborating on how the contestants are cared for Gomes said: "Everything from food to how you're feeling there are many things going on in the background "[The production team] are so important to us because they could put us there and just say 'Do whatever you guys want and figure out your situation,' but them caring about us really helps us to figure out our situation." Gomes added: "Even sometimes when you have to talk to someone who is off [camera] you get five minutes to talk and release yourself It's like how if you have to talk about something [outside the villa] you call your mum or father who is excited to keep in touch with his Love Island co-stars once the series is over also revealed he is rooting for Timmy Pandolfi and Zeta Morrison The pair have had a tumultuous turn in the villa but recently reunited and Gomes is convinced they will go the distance "I think they have a really strong connection," he said Love Island USA is available to stream on Peacock Newsweek is committed to challenging conventional wisdom and finding connections in the search for common ground Newsletters in your inbox See all On weekdays residents who live within feet of this folly of Brazil’s military dictatorship must put up with pollution and a constant roar – but at other times cars are banned “I remember when our street had trees on it It was so nice,” says 91-year-old Elca Cartum as she sits in her living room just feet away from the incessant stream of cars and trucks on the elevated highway that passes right outside her window Elca has been living on the third floor since 1959 First they widened the street and planted trees to make a boulevard Then in the late 60s Brazil’s military dictatorship decided São Paulo needed an elevated highway to help link the east and west of the rapidly growing city So began the largest construction project in South America at the time The result was the Elevado Presidente Costa e Silva named after a key figure in the military government Although it has since been renamed after pre-coup president João Goulart everyone knows it as the Minhocão anyway – after a giant mythical worm which roams the forests of South and Central America “As soon as they built it many of our neighbours moved away,” Elca recalls but her husband wanted to stay near his dental surgery downtown “Once most of them had left it was too late for us The price had fallen too far and we couldn’t make up the difference if we moved anywhere else At some points the highway passes just eight feet away from the graffitied apartment blocks and offices that surround it. It had an immediate impact on the once vibrant neighbourhood around Amaral Gurgel Street and São João which used to be known as São Paulo’s Fifth Avenue Property prices plummeted and businesses closed down. Some hold the Minhocão responsible for the decline of the city’s downtown, and ultimately the creation of areas such as the drug free-for-all of Cracolândia Yet to be published research from the Laboratory of Experimental Atmospheric Pollution at the University of São Paulo shows people living nearby are exposed to 79% more PM2.5 fine particulate air pollution than the rest of the city The high number of crashes and complaints of noise prompted the authorities to shut it to cars from midnight to 5am in 1976 The only public space we have is the MinhocãoFelipe RodriguesDecades before New York’s High Line, a 1987 plan by architect Pitanga do Amparo to recycle it into an urban park was “killed by bureaucracy” says Felipe Rodrigues of the Minhocão Park Association But from 1989 the night ban was extended to cover 9.30pm to 6am and the following year the road was closed to motor traffic on Sundays In a city sorely lacking in public space the people soon took control and on Sundays and evenings the Minhocão becomes somewhere to meet neighbours Cycling the 2.2 miles of highway last weekend I saw joggers and children playing football, people walking dogs and others smoking in the shade of buildings. There are coconut water salesmen and dance parties, theatre groups and Buda the skateboarding bulldog closed the Minhocão to cars on Saturday afternoons too The city is currently discussing a proposal to shut it all weekend The city’s latest 15-year masterplan says the Minhocão will be “deactivated” – closed to the 80,000 cars a day that use it – but does not specify what will happen to the road Some want to see it repurposed as an urban park; others want to see it torn down Any works are likely to be sponsored by a private company Architect Felipe Rodrigues lives on the 13th floor of a block a few metres from the Minhocão “We can’t just erase the mistakes we made in the past,” he says “If they do tear it down it’ll just become a regular busy road because they’re not going to close all the cross roads “After the High Line people are worried about gentrification but I think we can avoid that if we move little by little These buildings from the 1950s don’t have any communal space – the only public space we have is the Minhocão.” “During the 20th century São Paulo became a city of private space,” says Thiago Benicchio of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy “Things did change a little over the past few years and the open city looked closer – we had more bike lanes and benches to help people use what little public space there is and it sparked a significant change in how people saw their city – but now there is a definite backlash “The debate now is: do we want a closed city of private space with security guards and paranoia and where people feel the need to be inside – or do we want a city open for people to enjoy the way they want When biologist Felipe Amorim first questioned how the strange flowers of the Scybalium fungiforme are pollinated he only knew one thing for certain: the evidence pointed to non-flying mammals His infrared cameras later captured footage of possums which came as quite a surprise—although they fit the description they were not previously known to be pollinators a higher-quality camera and more hours of video revealed that bats of the Glossophaga soricina species hover like hummingbirds and then land with wings outspread to sip the nectar It turns out some of the plant’s pollinators do fly Image submitted by Felipe Amorim of São Paulo State University (UNESP) © Revista Pesquisa FAPESP - All rights reserved This map illustrates areas affected by Pico de Fogo volcano close to Portela Cha Das Caldeiras and Bangaeira as seen in a WorldView-2 image acquired 25 November 2014 occurred through a subsidiary vent located in the western flank of the Pico de Fogo Mountain The main cone is not involved in the eruption as of the 25 November 2014 image acquisition Several roadways in the surrounding area seem to be affected by the lava flow and are potentially out of use including the road from the Caldera to Sao Felipe city Volcano related smoke can be observed in the area of the village The inset of this map illustrates the lava fountains and related flow and smoke seen with false colours as captured by WorldView-2 image This analysis has not yet been validated in the field Please send ground feedback to UNITAR /UNOSAT Carlos Felipe was set to make his UFC debut next month Anti-Doping Agency has informed Felipe of a possible doping violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected July 29 28 bout with fellow heavyweight Christian Colombo (8-2-1 MMA 0-1-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 119 in Sao Paulo has been scrapped The UFC is currently seeking a replacement for Colombo for the FS1-televised event The 22-year-old Felipe is undefeated with six of his eight victories coming by way of TKO The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Carlos Felipe of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected on July 29 Because of the proximity to Felipe’s upcoming scheduled bout in Sao Paulo Felipe has been removed from the card and UFC is currently seeking a replacement the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Felipe there is a full and fair legal process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward For more on UFC Fight Night 119, check out the UFC Rumors section of the site Felipe Massa (BRA) FIA Drivers' Commission President. Formula 1 World Championship, Rd 2,… The former Ferrari driver has indicated that he plans to overturn the outcome of the 2008 world championship due to a conspiracy that he feels resulted in him losing out on the title to Lewis Hamilton.  Massa’s legal representation argue that the ‘crashgate’ controversy means the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix results should be nullified due to the FIA and FOM allegedly covering up knowledge of Nelson Piquet Jr’s deliberate crash.  The race had major implications on the title race and Massa would have been crowned world champion instead of Hamilton if the Singapore round had been declared null and void.  who has already cancelled planned trips to both the Italian and Japanese Grands Prix while the case rumbles on also appears likely to avoid his home race “The only thing I know is that F1 asked me not to go to the Monza race,” Massa told Motorsport.com “I was also going to go to the Japan race [as ambassador] and I didn't go we haven't had any contact since that moment before Monza until now Asked directly if he would visit Interlagos this weekend I would [only] go to the races as an ambassador “But I 100% respect the [legal] situation that is happening at the moment perhaps [to the point] of not going because of [all] that is happening “But there was no invitation and no conversation about my work as ambassador so I don't think I should participate.”  Hamilton gave a blunt response to being asked for his thoughts on Massa’s challenge on Thursday insisting: “I honestly pay no attention to it.”  Thursday marks 15 years to the day since Hamilton won his first world championship on the last corner of the last lap in the dramatic Brazil finale.  interviews and promotions from the paddock direct to your inbox For more information see our Privacy Policy Often reporting on the action from the ground Lewis tells the stories of the people who matter in the sport © Crash Media Group Ltd 2025.The total or partial reproduction of text, photographs or illustrations is not permitted in any form. Join thought-provoking conversations, follow other Independent readers and see their replies (ANS - Campinápolis) - About 9,000 people, all of them Xavante, live in the 180 villages served by the Campinapolis Missionary Ministry.  In that region, in the eastern part of the State of Mato Grosso, the rainy season is in progress, which relieves the intense heat and brings other benefits to the vegetation, but also causes health problems to the local population. Nurse Géssyca Santiago is the head of indigenous health in the village "Cuerpo de Cristo", where about 100 people live, and she has detected a serious health problem. "We have seen that cases of diarrhea in the community increase during the rainy season, because the river water, which they use for drinking, cooking, bathing and washing clothes, is very dirty and muddy." The inhabitants of some villages near Campinápolis already enjoy the water of artisanal wells, some made by teams led by the Salesian Alois Würz, of the AMA Project, and others by the Special Secretariat for Indigenous Health (SESAI). But the families of the village of "Cuerpo de Cristo" continue to survive only with water from the São Felipe river, which runs through the region. To deal with the problem - which can only be fully solved by supplying treated water to the population - pastoral agents have produced a series of guidelines on how to proceed in using the water collected from the river. First, information and spoons were distributed so that they could learn how to make whey - used for the treatment of the disease; then clay filters were distributed. These two initiatives managed to contain the cases of diarrhea. Salesian deacon José Alves said the material was obtained through donations from benefactors and friends who work for indigenous peoples. "It's very sad that when we arrive in the village we see malnourished children and we cannot do anything. We leave with an anguished heart. We fight so that children do not suffer from malnutrition, because once it is diagnosed, it is difficult to resolve," says volunteer Deusmira Moreira. At the ecclesial level, the indigenous peoples of Campinapolis are part of the parish of "San Domenico Savio", whose parish priest is the Salesian Fr Bartolomeo Giaccaria. The participation of the Salesian Mission of Mato Grosso is acknowledged and appreciated by the community and the authorities. "It is a joy to be able to count on the support of the Salesians and of the health teams. Without this support, we are nothing," explains Moreira. "I really want to thank the Salesians. With this help, we can do more and more. It is a great honor for me to be able to save lives. Not only those of children, but also of pregnant women and the elderly," reiterated Deusmira.
