A maintenance dredging program at the São Francisco do Sul port complex is on its way, NSC Total said.
Under the dredging project, a total of 1.6 million cubic meters of sediment is set to be removed.
The winning bid for the job was awarded to Jan De Nul do Brasil.
Work is expected to start within 45 days of signing the contract – scheduled to happen this week.
Meanwhile, a larger dredging project involving the removal of 12 million cubic meters of sediment from the external channel is in the licensing phase and will be carried out in partnership with Porto Itapoá.
The majority of the sediment will be removed from the external channel, with additional dredging in the internal channel and the turning basin, which provides access to berthing areas.

It occupies an area of 10 million square meters
The technology used at the undertakings allows for reducing water consumption and increasing its reuse and ensures that the units manage waste efficiently
Another gain is adjusting oil product production to the domestic and international markets' quality and environmental sustainability requirements
in addition to reducing atmospheric emissions by installing new reduction equipment that improves air quality in the region
diesel and unstable product hydrotreatment
Throughput is 33,000 m³/d or 207,563 bbl/d
The refinery ships 85% of its products to supply the Paraná
southern São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul markets
The entire production surplus is sent to other Brazilian regions or exported

Incident took place in Babitonga Bay on Saturday
A Greek kamsarmax bulker is reported to have grounded off Brazil on Saturday.
The country’s navy said the 83,000-dwt London 2012 (built 2007), operated by Tsakos Shipping & Trading, touched bottom in Babitonga Bay near Porto Itapoa.
The 228-metre vessel, flagged in Liberia, was carrying a cargo of soybeans, ND Radio reported.
Tugs attended the scene in an attempt to refloat the ship.
AIS showed the ship at anchor in the nearby port of Sao Francisco do Sul on Tuesday morning.
According to the navy, the port authority office had been notified of the grounding.
The navy also said the grounding did not affect other vessel traffic in the channel.
The shipowner was asked to take precautionary measures related to the prevention of environmental damage.
A dive was later carried out to check the condition of the ship’s hull.
ND Radio said that to carry out unloading operations, the owner had to submit a preliminary salvage plan.
An inquiry will be launched to determine the cause of the incident. This should be completed within 90 days.
Tsakos Shipping & Trading has been contacted for further comment.
The ship has insurance through the North of England protection and indemnity club.
Bureau Veritas is the vessel’s class society.
The London 2012 has no port-state-control detentions on its record.
No destination port is signalled for the vessel.

No pollution reported from Aeolian Grace with tugs in attendance
Salvage plans are being drawn up following the grounding of a Greek bulker off Brazil.
The country's navy said it was informed by local police and the port captain in Sao Francisco do Sul that the 77,000-dwt Aeolian Grace (built 2007) got stuck while exiting its berth on Tuesday night, about 500 metres from the terminal.
Officials added the vessel, operated by Greece's SwissMarine Inc, has been stabilised by two tugs and there has been no pollution.
The navy has asked the pilot to remain on board.
Contact was made with the local ship agent to request divers to carry out an external evaluation of the hull.
A low tide could have been to blame, according to domestic media reports.
The port authority said in a statement that technicians were assessing the situation and seeking salvage solutions.
It added the vessel is in full working order and presents no risk to the environment or crew.
Port operations have not been affected, but entry and exit of ships was being assessed on a case-by-case basis by the authority and its pilots.
AIS data showed the bulker still aground on Thursday morning. It had arrived from Ennore in India on 22 February.
The port authority have begun an investigation in to the incident.
SwissMarine has been contacted for further information.
The vessel is insured by Skuld in Norway. It has a clean port-state control record.
Last week, the Polaris Shipping-owned 300,000-dwt VLOC Stellar Banner (built 2016) was deliberately grounded by the master off Sao Luis after it departed Vale’s Ponta de Madeira terminal in Brazil.
Towage company Svitzer has announced plans to more than double its fleet of Brazilian-flagged tugs in 2017
The company also announced it will be starting a new service in Paranagua and has hired a new Managing Direct and Commercial Director for Brazil
says this month two new Brazilian-flag tugs are starting operations at the Paranagua Port
joining the company’s operations at Sao Francisco do Sul and Itapoa in the southern portion of Brazil
Svitzer also says it is building four new tugs at Inace shipyard in Fortaleza with delivery expected in the second half of 2017
The addition of the six tugs will bring Svitzer’s Brazilian-flag fleet to 10 tugs by year-end
Svitzer recently started operations in Argentina
assigning there some of the foreign-flag ships originally brought to Brazil in 2015.
Svitzer entered the Brazilian towage in May 2015 with the acquisition of Transmar Servicos Maritimos
The new investments in Brazil are port of a broader BRL 200 million program announced in 2015
Svitzer also announced that it has appointed Rutger Thulin to head operations in Brazil
Thulin is former CFO for Svitzer in Europe
who worked for four years at Sulnorte and another 12 years at Hapag-Lloyd
“There is strong demand for a provider that offers world-class services
and this is especially important for our portfolio of global and local clients”
“Paranagua is part of our growth strategy and strengthens our position in the south of Brazil as we continue to invest in Brazilian flag ships.”
The new Paranagua vessels – 77 and 75 TBP tugs – are of Robert Allan design and were built at the Cheoy Lee Shipyard

sending 3.96 million metric tons overseas in 2011
The country is the second-largest chicken meat producer
notes that the era of 20 percent volume increases for chicken exports is over.Brazil is the biggest chicken exporter in the world
The country moved ahead of the USA in the export stakes
Brazilian chicken exports in 2011 were worth US$8.2 billion
a 21.2 percent increase over the 2010 figure
and accounting for 3.2 percent of the country’s entire export trade
Brazil exported 320,404 twenty foot equivalent
in 2011 a 2.9 percent increase over the 311
which was 9.78 percent higher than the 283,207 TEU exported in 2009
Although exports for first half of this year were up by over 4 percent
many sector managers believe that 2012 will be the “same as last year
and that once second half figures are available they will show that growth has tailed off
Yet despite the success of the last decade
this year a number of Brazilian chicken producers are fighting for survival in the face of growing feed costs
Add to this the country’s overvalued currency
and it becomes clear why most forecasters are predicting that Brazil will end 2012 with export volumes and revenue similar to those recorded in 2011
This is a far cry from the 20 percent per annum volume and value increases of the early 2000s
UBABEF President Franciso Turra has been in talks with the government
trying to emphasize how serious the situation is for his members
the seventh-largest chicken exporter in Brazil
has closed two production facilities in the south of the country to reduce costs
and that overall Brazilian chicken production could be down by as much as 10 percent by the year’s end
He adds that the price of soybean meal in Brazil jumped from R$600 (US$295.84) per metric ton last year to stand at R$1,300 per metric ton at the time of writing
continuing that the price of soya and corn made up “70 percent of all production costs for the industry.”
The UBABEF president has urged the government to take action
possibly by backing auctions to transport corn from the midwest regions of Brazil to the chicken producing areas of the south
stressing that the industry needs help during the “nightmare scenario.”
some producers are selling chicken for R$1.90 per kilo while production costs have reached R$2.10 per kilo
the situation of the Brazilian industry is not without its bright spots
According to UBABEF trade manager Adriano Zerbini
there has been an upsurge in demand from many developing countries
to some degree compensating for a drop in demand from some developed countries
which have been struggling since the financial crisis hit
He says: “Our members are responsible for 40 percent of all the world’s exports of chicken
In the first six months of this year we increased volumes by 2.7 percent
but we saw a decrease of 6 percent in value terms
“The chicken sector is struggling terribly due to increased costs
This is affecting not only Brazil but all chicken producing countries
“Since the beginning of this year several of our members have been struggling to cope
They need to find a way to pass the increased costs onto consumers
Many importing countries are having economic problems
and so it is difficult to pass on price increases.”
Zerbini points out that the smaller chicken producers
and especially those who specialize only in chicken
He notes that some companies have better cash flow positions than others
Yet due to a cut in Brazilian interest rates
exports are becoming more competitive again
noting that soya meal prices in Brazil had risen 32 percent between March and June of this year and that this was causing a “challenging operational landscape.” Rabobank also reported that from January 1 to end of May
Brazil exported 1.7 million metric tons of chicken
although in terms of price there had been a 9 percent fall since December 2011
Rabobank is confident that Brazilian chicken exports will grow by a few percentage points by the year’s end
the chicken export business has certainly been brisk this year to Saudi Arabia
with TEU shipment increases to all of them and especially to Egypt
Zerbini says: “Our exports are growing to countries that are eating more meat (be it chicken or beef)
and in the Middle East they prefer whole chickens.”
the director for reefer cargo at Hamburg Sud
exports from Brazil will remain fairly stable for rest of this year
but the regular 20 percent volume and price increases that were experienced in the early 2000s won’t be seen again for some time to come
He says: “There was constant growth from 2000 onwards
and many markets around the world are buying less chicken
our carryings are in line with our forecasts
The weaker Real is offsetting some of the price increases caused by the increased feed costs.”
He continues that the consolidation among chicken exporters is having a profound effect on annual contract negotiations
“It is no secret that there are fewer customers around for the shipping lines
Five years ago we were negotiating with 10 potential exporters [medium and large sized] but now there are only about four due to the various takeovers.”
which imported 49,678 TEU of chicken from Brazil in 2011
which was a 12.4 percent rise over the 44,200 TEU taken in 2010
Brazilian chicken exporters are very well served
The ports are mostly based in the south of the country – the states of Santa Catarina and Parana being responsible for more than 80 percent of all poultry exports from Brazil
The opening up for business of Portonave in October 2007 provided a sixth option (seven if the small port of Imbituba in the south of Santa Catarina is included
which handles a few containers of chicken)
The main gateway for chicken exports is still the Itajai Port Complex
which includes the APMoeller terminal facility in Itajai proper and Portonave across the river
the complex comprises one of the biggest concentrations of reefer warehouses in the world
Many call it the “Chicken Export Capital” of the world
The Hamburg Sud-backed port facility at Itapoa is relatively new when it comes to handling chicken
opening for business across the bay from Sao Francisco do Sul during mid-2011
Itapoa has already started to take business from Paranagua and Sao Francisco do Sul

As part of the transaction finalized on Nov
Petrobras sold its shares in the RLAM refinery and related assets—including four storage terminals and a set of pipelines totaling 669 km—to MC Brazil Downstream Participações for $1.8 billion
an amount that reflects the purchase price of $ 1.65 billion
adjusted for monetary correction and variations in working capital
The contract also provides for a final adjustment to the purchase price
which will be determined in the coming months
the former RLAM refinery has been renamed Refinaria de Mataripe and is now operated by Acelen
a company newly created by MC expressly for operation of the site
Petrobras—which will offer ongoing support to Acelen for a transitional period following the sale as part of a service provision agreement to ensure the safety and uninterrupted operation of the assets—stressed the importance of the RLAM divestment as an important step in the company’s portfolio management strategy and capital allocation improvement plan
both of which aim to maximize shareholder value as well as returns for Brazil’s economy
“This sale is an important milestone for Petrobras and the fuel sector in the country
which tends to strengthen the economy and generate benefits for society,” said Joaquim Silva e Luna
and improve operational performance of five Brazilian refineries
Petrobras said it would evaluate next steps regarding RNEST’s future after completing internal procedures to end the refinery’s then-current sale process
Petrobras also decided to close and restart the sale process for its 208,000-b/d Refinaria Presidente Getulio Vargas (REPAR) refinery and related assets—including five storage terminals and a 476-km set of pipelines—in Paraná after initial binding proposals fell short of Petrobras' economic-financial evaluation for the assets
While revised divestment plans for REFAP, RNEST, and REPAR remain pending, Petrobras also has inked a preliminary sales agreement for the 46,000-b/d Isaac Sabbá refinery (REMAN)—including a storage terminal—in Manaus, Amazonas (OGJ Online, June 10, 2021)
Upon announcing cancellation of the REFAP deal
Petrobras said competitive sale processes remained under way and negotiations ongoing for other refining assets included in the operator’s Brazilian downstream divestment program
including the 166,000-b/d Refinaria Gabriel Passos (REGAP) refinery—including a set of pipelines of more than 720 km—in Betim
as well as the 8,000-b/d Lubrificantes e Derivados de Petróleo do Nordeste (LUBNOR) refinery in Fortaleza
While Petrobras previously said it planned to start a new competitive process for sale of RFAP
the operator has yet to reveal a timeline for when that process might begin
Official details regarding the status of sale processes for REGAP and LUBNOR also have yet to emerge
While the downstream divestment program remains ongoing
Petrobras said on May 24 it is proceeding with a program to prepare its remaining refining assets for an open
as well as for the transition to a low-carbon economy
the program consists of a set of initiatives that seek to implement improvements to increase efficiency and operational performance of Brazilian refineries not involved in the divestment portfolio
Alongside initiatives to increase the refineries' energy performance by enabling better reuse of inputs such as natural gas
and steam generated by Petrobras’s own operations
the planned $300-million RefTOP program also will promote the use of digital technologies
and robotization throughout the refining complexes
including expanding existing use of digital twins
Another important driver of the program is increasing production of high value-added products such as diesel and propylene
the latter of which will serve as feedstock for the petrochemical industry to help meet rising demand for plastics
Petrobras said the program will help the refineries leverage processing of Brazil’s own low-sulfur presalt crudes
achieving competitive advantages and opportunities for increasing margins by favoring production of low-sulfur S-10 diesel and bunker fuel
Robert Brelsford joined Oil & Gas Journal in October 2013 as downstream technology editor after 8 years as a crude oil price and news reporter on spot crude transactions at the US Gulf Coast

Balloons found in sea: Father Adelir Antonio de Carli takes off (Reuters)
Link copiedShareShare articleShips and planes are searching along the coast of Brazil for a priest who disappeared after drifting out to sea suspended from hundreds of helium-filled party balloons, authorities said.
Rescue workers said they had not given up hope of finding Father Adelir Antonio de Carli even though bunches of the multicoloured balloons had been found floating on the sea.
The adventurous clergyman staged the stunt to help raise money for a chapel for truckers in his highway parish.
Fr de Carli told friends in his last mobile telephone call on Sunday night that his contraption made of 1,000 balloons would soon crash into the Atlantic Ocean.
He had left from the southern port of Paranagua and wanted to fly 20 hours due west but winds unexpectedly carried him out to sea in the opposite direction.
"The search area has broadened and there are more planes and ships involved today," Alfredo Moraes de Araujo, fire brigade commander in the coastal town of Sao Francisco do Sul, told Reuters.
Rescue workers will search one of the islands off the coast of Santa Catarina state, where they believe the 42-year-old Roman Catholic priest may have washed up, Araujo said.
Bits of balloon were also found near Porto Belo, roughly 150 km south of Fr de Carli's last phone contact, he said.
Friends said remaining balloons or flotation chambers in his harness-like seat may have helped Fr de Carli float.
"We certainly have lots of hope he will turn up; they found 50 balloons. He still has lots; there were 1,000," said Eliana Aparecida dos Santos at the parish where Fr de Carli worked.
Mr Araujo said the priest may have been reckless.
"He wasn't prepared for an emergency at sea; he didn't wear a life vest or anything of the sort," he said.
The chaplain, who reached an altitude of more than 5,000 metres at one point in this latest flight, was blown across Brazil's border with Argentina during a test flight in January.
