ACCIONA has just completed construction of the tunnel for the future Line 6-Orange of the São Paulo metro
in one of the most important milestones of the project
connecting the 15 future stations of the new line
Since leaving the Tietê ventilation and safety shaft in December 2021
the TBM has traveled nearly 8.9 kilometers
achieving daily averages of more than 25 meters and even setting an operational record last October when it dug 41.3 meters in just 24 hours
The project’s two TBMs have excavated more than 60 meters of tunnel per day
requiring another logistical feat of 840 truck trips to transport more than 6,500 cubic meters of excavated material
ACCIONA has built more than 14 kilometers of tunnel with the South and North TBMs
Work is currently underway on the 15 stations
the Morro Grande Yard and the 18 ventilation and safety shafts
10 stations have already been excavated and 2.4 kilometers of tunnels have been constructed using the conventional method
With a committed investment of more than 19 billion reais (€3.106 billion) Line 6 is the largest infrastructure project underway in Latin America
The project has already benefited more than one million people
including professionals and members of the community
through various social initiatives carried out during the construction period
It is also promoting the role of women in the infrastructure sector
with São Joaquim station in the city center and will carry more than 630,000 passengers per day
which currently takes about one and a half hours by bus
The line between Brasilândia and Perdizes will be completed by the end of 2026
The section between Perdizes and São Joaquim will be operational in 2027
ACCIONA has been present in Brazil for more than 25 years
it has developed several emblematic infrastructures
such as Terminal 2 of the Port of Açu (State of Rio de Janeiro) and the transformation of the historic Júlio Prestes railway station in São Paulo into a world-class concert hall
In terms of experience in sanitation and water treatment projects
the company has extensive experience in the country through projects such as the sanitation system
pumping stations and ETE (wastewater treatment plant) of the Alcântara basin
the second largest city in the State of Rio de Janeiro; the design
construction and operation support for the Santa Cruz do Capibaribe wastewater treatment system
in the Pernambuco region (in the northeast of the country)
ACCIONA was awarded the tender by Sanepar (Paraná Sanitation Company) for the concession of sewerage services in 48 municipalities in the western and central-eastern micro-regions of the State of Paraná
operated and maintained the energy cogeneration system at the Arrudas wastewater treatment plant in the State of Minas Gerais

BRAZIL (AP) — At the Word of Faith Fellowship churches in the Brazilian cities of Sao Joaquim de Bicas and Franco da Rocha
the signs of broken families are everywhere: parents separated from their children
grandparents who wonder if they will ever know their grandchildren
the U.S.-based mother church took command of both congregations in Brazil
applying a strict interpretation of the Bible and enforcing it through rigorous controls and physical punishment
Many of the more than three dozen former members interviewed by the AP in Brazil said they live in perpetual fear of retribution
Others ask themselves how they put up with the abuse for so long
Former member Juliana Oliveira remembers when life was normal in the Sao Joaquim de Bicas church
Before the Brazilian traditions were stripped away
you don't know you are in a cult because little by little it all becomes 'normal,'" said Oliveira
The examination of Word of Faith Fellowship's spread into Latin America's largest country is part of the AP's lengthy ongoing investigation into the evangelical church
Based on exclusive interviews with dozens of former members
the AP reported in February that congregants in the U.S
punched and choked to "purify" sinners by expelling devils
The AP also has detailed how Word of Faith Fellowship funneled a steady flow of young Brazilian members to the United States on tourist and student visas and forced them to work both at the church and companies owned by sect leaders
Neither Whaley nor the pastors at both Word of Faith Fellowship branches in Brazil responded to requests for comment
The church has nearly 2,000 members in Brazil and Ghana and its affiliations in Sweden
in addition to 750 congregants in Spindale
the takeover of the two churches was a slow evolution that culminated in drastic rules dictating almost every aspect of congregants' lives
Many of the edicts echoed Whaley's mandates in North Carolina
such as a ban on wearing jeans and children talking to members of the opposite sex without approval
former members said Whaley prohibited soccer as Brazil was getting ready to host the 2014 World Cup because she felt the church's young males were focused on the event at the expense of God
"We just dealt with a major 'soccer devil' down in Brazil two weeks ago," Whaley told the Spindale congregation in a sermon transmitted to branches in Brazil and Ghana that was viewed by the AP
When Oliveira was a teenager in the late 1990s
the evangelical school she attended was "strict but normal," she said
The Bible was the guiding principle at Ministerio Verbo Vivo (Live Word)
but general subjects were taught just like at any Brazilian school
By the time she returned from college to teach at the school
life at Verbo Vivo was barely recognizable
Schoolbooks reviewed by the AP show heavy redactions
the life cycle is taught via plant reproduction
"The influence of American pastors was getting stronger and stronger in the school and church," Oliveira said
wiping away tears during an interview at her home in nearby Betim
"They stopped emphasizing the teaching of Portuguese
It turned into mostly Bible study and a lot of abuse."
Students deemed as "rebellious" were isolated from others during the school day
made to read the Bible or shouted at for hours to "expunge devils," according to many former students and their parents
the long palm tree-lined driveway from the gate to the school provided plenty of time for school employees to pull out regular books and make things look "normal," Oliveira said
former members say the Brazilian churches introduced physical assaults and "blasting" — a Word of Faith Fellowship practice where ministers and congregants surround members and scream in their faces for hours to drive out demons
Flavio Correa said his oldest son was slapped so many times during a blasting session by pastors at the Franco da Rocha church that he suffered several cuts on his face
who left the church last year after 23 years
"But I confided in them and you start to think it is good for the person
Word of Faith Fellowship's reach into Brazil began with John Martin
an American missionary who arrived in the late 1970s
married a local woman and served as pastor at a Baptist church near Belo Horizonte
Former members say Martin met Sam Whaley on an airplane in 1986
sparking a relationship that led both Whaleys and other ministers from Spindale to begin visiting Martin's church
Martin founded Verbo Vivo in Belo Horizonte in 1987 and
the Americans began to gain control of the parish
Martin moved his church to Sao Joaquim de Bicas
dozens of church families moved to a large plot of land in Betim
Though land was cheaper outside Belo Horizonte
former members cite another motivation: Isolating the flock from the outside world
Children attended school on church land — property ringed by an 8-foot-high fence topped with barbed wire — and returned home to a neighborhood with a manned gate and its own 8-foot-high fence
Adult members had little contact with the outside world
going to work and returning straight home to the community
Current congregants and former ones pass each other daily without speaking
Former members say evangelical pastors Solange Granieri and Juarez De Souza Oliveira
met the Whaleys at a religious conference in Sao Paulo in the mid-1980s
De Souza Oliveira opened Ministerio Evangelico Comunidade Rhema
in the Sao Paolo suburb of Franco da Rocha
congregants in the second branch were encouraged to buy land in a remote area outside the city
there was an emphasis on building close-knit communities modeled after the original sect in North Carolina
almost two decades after the founding of Verbo Vivo
the increasingly harsh treatment and strict rules imposed by the Americans led to a revolt by dozens of congregants in Sao Joaquim de Bicas
contending in television interviews that Martin and the other American ministers who periodically visited were "brainwashing" and controlling congregants at Whaley's behest
Their departures created a rupture so great — and led to so many complaints — that the human rights committee in the Minas Gerais state legislature held hearings
Two dozen ex-members testified about abuses
from forced isolation to being shaken and hit during services and at the church school
Former students recounted being spanked with wooden spoons and yelled at for extended periods in front of their classmates
testified he had been taken to Spindale four times as a teenager
He said he was not put to work during the first trip
instead spending his days praying and learning the church's doctrine
everything for the sake of the sect," he testified
Morais de Oliveira stood by his testimony but declined to be interviewed
Parents also testified that their children were sent to the U.S
and indoctrinated to the point that they turned against their families
said his 19-year-old son and 22-year-old daughter had broken off contact after traveling to North Carolina
don't try to speak to us anymore," Gonzaga recounted them telling him during a phone call from Spindale on Father's Day
All future communication must go through church leaders in Spindale
Gonzaga testified that he tried repeatedly to reach his children
Many of the abuse allegations came down to the word of former members against church officials
similar to the way investigations at the North Carolina parent church have stalled over the decades
denied the allegations and called the disciplinary rules "guidelines and not prohibitions," according to news media reports at the time
He declined to offer fresh comment to the AP
The turmoil did lead to at least one change: Former members said there was a sharp drop in Martin's congregants
While the Franco da Rocha branch did not suffer the same internal strife
congregants who left in recent years estimate that the number of members there dropped from 700 a decade ago to 250 now
a member of the Franco da Rocha church for a quarter-century
said the dramatic changes in the church made her want to leave a decade ago but that she mustered the courage only last year
was a conversation with Jane Whaley about her teenage son
who liked a fellow congregant but was not allowed to talk to her because the sexes are strictly separated
feels full of regret — from the birthdays not celebrated
had doubts about the church and argued for years that they should leave
citing cutting off contact with friends who are not members
"Then you are like a caged animal that no longer knows how to live outside," she said

They are the cloudiest cities in the world
According to World Atlas
these three locations receive less than 1,065 hours of daylight each year
Torshavn records an average of 2.4 hours of sunshine per day
This is a much-needed perspective because while some areas around Texas are stuck in the clouds
Data compiled by Weatherspark.com illustrates the percentage of time an area has any particular cloud cover band
February features nearly consistent cloud cover in Dallas/Ft
The sky is either overcast or mostly cloudy 45% of the month
The highest chance of overcast or mostly cloudy conditions is on February 24
A clear sky becomes more persistent during the summer
Another way to look at the cloudiness during February is through the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, IEM
IEM collects data from weather stations all over
Researchers compile data to understand the weather around us better
The following figure illustrates when the sky above an ASOS METAR station
While there is a lot of information to take away from this figure
it's easy to see that during February 2020
That theme is consistent year after year.
October 5 is considered the clearest day of the year
Similarly, Austin experiences mainly cloudy conditions during February. Weatherspark.com concludes that the sky in Austin is cloudy
or overcast for 44% of the time throughout February
The clearest day of the month is February 2
or partly cloudy conditions occur 57% of the time
IEM data from 2020 showed more grey days on the figure below than clear days during February
IEM data showed more clear days than grey days
The clearest day of the month is February 21
or partly cloudy conditions occur 58% of the time
IEM data that goes back to 1947 showed more cloudy days than clear days during February 2020
June 11 is the clearest day of the year

2017 photo shows the Word of Faith Fellowship church in Sao Joaquim de Bicas
the U.S.-based mother church took command of this and another congregation in Brazil
Albuquerque traveled to the Word of Faith Fellowship church in Spindale
from Brazil 11 times over the course of more than a decade
she said she witnessed so much screaming and shoving to “expunge devils” that she began to see the behavior as normal
An Associated Press investigation has found that the church used its two branches in Latin America’s largest nation to siphon a steady flow of young laborers who came on tourist and student visas to its 35-acre compound in rural Spindale

Word of Faith Fellowship absorbed two churches in Brazil
in the southeastern cities of Sao Joaquim de Bicas and Franco da Rocha
This undated photo provided in 2017 by a former member of the Word of Faith Fellowship from Brazil shows founder Jane Whaley with children at the church in Spindale
Members visit the Spindale compound from around the world
but Brazil is the biggest source of foreign labor and Whaley and her top lieutenants visit the Brazilian outposts several times a year
Thiago Silva speaks during an interview at his home in Marlborough
The former member of the Word of Faith Fellowship said he was excited when he boarded a plane in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte to fly to the church’s youth seminar in North Carolina in 2001
He was 18 and expecting to use his tourist visa to meet new people and visit the U.S
that there would be “no happiness.” “Brazilians came here for labor
He called the treatment “a violation of human rights.” (AP Photo/Rodrique Ngowi)

his passport and money were confiscated by church leaders _ for safekeeping
he said he was forced to work 15 hours a day
first cleaning warehouses for the secretive evangelical church and later toiling at businesses owned by senior ministers

Ana Albuquerque explains how she was spanked during an interview in Belo Horizonte
Albuquerque says church founder Jane Whaley and another member repeatedly spanked her with a flat piece of wood while screaming that she was “unclean” and possessed by the devil when she was 16
(AP) — When Andre Oliveira answered the call to leave his Word of Faith Fellowship congregation in Brazil to move to the mother church in North Carolina at the age of 18
his passport and money were confiscated by church leaders — for safekeeping
Any deviation from the rules risked the wrath of church leaders
ranging from beatings to shaming from the pulpit
They needed labor and we were cheap labor — hell
visitors on tourist visas are prohibited from performing work for which people normally would be compensated
Those on student visas are allowed some work
under circumstances that were not met at Word of Faith Fellowship
three ex-congregants told an assistant U.S
attorney that the Brazilians were being forced to work for no pay
according to a recording obtained by the AP
“And do they beat up the Brazilians?” Jill Rose
“Most definitely,” one of the former congregants responded
Ministers “mostly bring them up here for free work,” another said
Though Rose could be heard promising to look into it
the former members said she never responded when they repeatedly tried to contact her in the months after the meeting
is one of 16 Brazilian former members who told the AP they were forced to work
The AP also reviewed scores of police reports and formal complaints lodged in Brazil about the church’s harsh conditions
How can you do that to people — claim you love them and then beat them in the name of God?”
The Brazilians often spoke little English when they arrived
Many males worked in construction; many females worked as babysitters and in the church’s K-12 school
One ex-congregant from Brazil told AP she was only 12 the first time she was put to work
Although immigration officials in both countries said it was impossible to calculate the volume of the human pipeline
at least several hundred young Brazilians have migrated to North Carolina over the past two decades
The AP made repeated attempts to obtain comments for this story from church leaders in both countries
Word of Faith Fellowship grew from a handful of followers to about 750 congregants in North Carolina and a total of nearly 2,000 members in its churches in Brazil and Ghana and its affiliations in Sweden
Former member Thiago Silva said he was excited when he boarded a plane in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte to fly to a Word of Faith youth seminar in North Carolina in 2001
He called the treatment “a violation of human rights.”
recounted being among a group of Brazilians working alongside Americans — the locals were paid
Silva and others also said Whaley took complete control of congregants’ lives on both continents
mandating such daily staples of life as where they lived and when they could eat — and even forcing some into arranged marriages to Americans so they could stay in the country
said he could phone his parents from the U.S only if someone who spoke Portuguese monitored the call
Whaley would tell the Brazilian members of her flock that they could improve both their lives and their relationships with God with a pilgrimage to the mother church
The Brazilians’ brand of worship was inferior
In addition to being promised a higher standing in the church
some said they also were enticed with the chance to attend college
Others said they felt they simply had no choice
the strict rules in place in Spindale were being imposed in Brazil
leading to complaints to police reviewed by the AP and a legislative hearing in 2009
But Word of Faith never faced any official censure — many of the allegations came down to the word of ex-members against the church — and the human pipeline continued to flow
even as Brazilian parents said they were being completely cut off from their children in North Carolina
Labeled a “rebel” because she talked back to pastors as a child
told the AP that she was frequently kept in isolation for days at a time in various ministers’ homes in Sao Joaquim de Bicas
She said she was 12 when she made her first extended trip to Spindale and was immediately put to work
She helped out in the school during the day
then sewed clothes and babysat in the evenings
Now 21 and studying medicine in Belo Horizonte
Oliveira said she broke with the church after her eighth trip to Spindale
that I would die on my own in the world and go to hell.”
Ana Albuquerque traveled to Spindale from Brazil 11 times over the course of more than a decade
she joined a group of two dozen other Brazilian teens staying up to six months under tourist visas
‘You will get to know the United States of America
You will get to go to the malls,’” she said
said she worked full time without pay — as a teacher’s aide at the school during the day and then babysitting congregants’ children at night
Albuquerque said Whaley and another minister repeatedly spanked her with a flat piece of wood while screaming that she was “unclean” and possessed by the devil
“Pray for it to come out of you!” Albuquerque recalled being exhorted during a session lasting 40 minutes
Albuquerque said she endured days of forced isolation
threats of being placed in a psychiatric ward and refusals by Whaley to let her call her parents
She finally was allowed to return to Brazil
Luiz Pires said he was 18 in 2006 when he was encouraged by ministers in the Sao Joaquim de Bicas church to travel to North Carolina for his spiritual betterment
he said he found “horrific” living conditions
with eight people crammed in the basement of a church leader’s house
forced to work long hours at church-related businesses
despite the fact that he and others cleaned and did yard work at the member’s house where they lived
Former congregant Jay Plummer supervised remodeling projects for a church leader’s business and confirmed that his fellow American workers were paid while the Brazilians who labored alongside them were not
and they did not have a choice,” Plummer told the AP
“And when they would not want to work and vocalize that
Paulo Henrique Barbosa had heard the horror stories about life in Spindale
But the sect’s influence was so great that he said he felt he must comply when church leaders in Franco da Rocha — supported by his parents — told him to travel to Spindale in 2011
Pastors told him he would violate God’s will if he refused
“Everybody knew these trips were not about tourism,” said Barbosa
now 23 and working in information technology in Sao Paolo
he helped in the school in the mornings and worked in construction in the afternoons and evenings
music and certain brand-name products all were off-limits
Barbosa said he also slept in a church member’s basement
Anyone in the bathroom for more than the mandated five minutes was suspected of committing the “sin” of masturbation
and Whaley would be called to the house to decree the punishment
If any of the males appeared to be having an “impure dream,” Barbosa said
ordered to surround him and repeatedly shake him and shriek into his ears to “expulse the devils,” a Word of Faith practice called “blasting.”
Barbosa said he asked to return to Brazil many times “but they always told me no
He knew no one outside the church and did not speak English
He was allowed to return to Brazil only when his six-month tourist visa was set to expire
you are trained to believe that leaving the church will mean you go to hell
The AP investigation documented repeated abuses of the tourist and student visas obtained for Brazilian church members
Brazilians most often first arrived in North Carolina on six-month tourist visas for church functions
Some Brazilians would leave after a few weeks; others would stay the duration
Perhaps to circumvent the rules against employment
church leaders sometimes referred to the forced labor projects as “volunteer work,” according to Brazilians interviewed in both countries
Such work included ripping out walls and installing drywall in apartments owned and rented out by a senior church minister and family members
Ross Eisenbrey of the Economic Policy Institute
said rental properties are “for-profit businesses for which the immigrants cannot volunteer” under the Fair Labor Standards Act
Some of those interviewed said they’d been lured to the U.S
in part by promises of obtaining a college education but were unable to study or attend classes because of their punishing work schedules
“There were times I would get done at 4 in the morning and I knew I had to get up by 8 to go to work
You’re just too tired,” Andre Oliveira said
Former congregants said far more Brazilians came on tourist visas
with several hundred teenagers staying for extended periods
he said it took him months to obtain permission to return to Brazil
he said he and others were forced to move into a minister’s house
where he worked as a cleaner for months until he was told “it was the will of God to visit Spindale — this time
ministers again took his passport and put him to work in companies owned by church ministers
“A typical day would start like this: I’d start work at 9 in the morning and it would end 15 or 16 hours later — sometimes longer,” he said
“We didn’t stop.” 'Oliveira and others said they had little choice but to follow orders
“We knew what would happen: We would be screamed at
who grew up in the church in Brazil and visited the U.S
about 10 times for religious functions and trips with her family
but she said things were far different when she moved to Spindale on a student visa in 2009
Jane said it was the will of God,” she told the AP
Melo said her passport was taken and she was quickly put to work
church officials were clear that school was not to be her focus
Student visas were just a “means for us to be here legally,” she said
Whaley’s brand of “love” also played a key role in enticing Brazilian males to Spindale — and keeping them there once their visas expired
according to 10 former members of the church
Some of those interviewed spoke of male Brazilians — as well as church members from various other countries — obtaining green cards for permanent residency and being able to legally work by being “married off” to female American congregants
It is illegal to enter a sham marriage for the purpose of avoiding U.S
The arranged marriages also addressed the fact that the Spindale congregation has more unmarried females than males
congregants aren’t allowed to date outside the church
“I can count at least five or six Brazilian guys that moved here to marry an American girl,” Melo said
ever consider letting you date somebody outside of the church.”
Silva said that Whaley often told people that she heard from God who they should marry or used her iron grip over members’ lives to arrange relationships
Silva recalled a young Brazilian couple in love who would be unable to stay in the U.S
Whaley wanted to keep the man in Spindale so she told him it was the “will of God” for him to marry an American
Andre Oliveira said church leaders found him a bride
It wasn’t long after former member Kim Rooper joined the Spindale church that she said she was asked to marry a man from Ecuador whose visa was expiring
said she was coached on how to make the marriage look legitimate to immigration authorities
it came time to consummate the marriage and I struggled with that,” she said
“I had a hard time because I didn’t love him
Church leaders told her it was the “will of God” to submit to her husband
“And that’s when I knew I had to escape,” she said

Gathering people at the table symbolizes congregation and bonding
September is especially marked by this feeling of sharing and celebrating
a recipe that is a mix of food and affection
African and Portuguese cultural-gastronomic syncretism
The caruru is offered at the celebrations of St
It permeates all socioeconomic classes and has no religious boundaries
We have gathered curiosities that will tell a little of this story
you’ll write on your timeline: “I accept invitations for caruru”
and will start receiving calls from friends
your meal will now become a gastronomic immersion
According to the book “Cozinhando Histórias – Receitas
Histórias e Mitos de Pratos Afro-brasileiros” (Cooking Stories – Recipes
Stories and Myths of Afro-Brazilian Dishes)*
many of the Afro-Bahian dishes served today – especially on celebrations – and restaurants have their origins in candomblé religious foundations
Cosmas and Damian are Catholic saints syncretized with the Ibejis twins of Candomblé
Thus was born the September tradition of offering the “complete caruru”
Afro-Brazilian culinary expert Marlene Jesus da Costa and griot Nancy Sousa
In short: every time Xangô went to eat his amalá (food similar to caruru
Xangô got so angry that he made the earth shake
One of them proposed a challenge for Exu: a dance dispute in which if Exu stopped dancing before him
he would never eat his father Xangô’s food again
Exu didn’t know they were twins and when the dance started
The brothers took turns playing the Batá (African percussive instrument)
This lasted for a long time until Exu fell exhausted and lost the challenge and never ate Xangô’s amalá anymore
the Ibejis asked that whenever there was amalá to eat
a portion was prepared without pepper and meat for them
the caruru is an offering called the “caruru of promise” or “caruru of the seven boys”
In memory of the event where the Ibejis deceived Exu
The book tells that all the orixás participate in this party and their food is also served
The okra is for Xangô; black beans and popcorn for Omolú; the fried banana for Oxumaré; the acarajé is for Iansã; the abará and mulukun for Oxum and the cooked yam for Oxalá
then to the seven boys who eat together with their hands
Ibeji is the Yoruba word meaning twins – “Ibi” means born and “eji”
The first twin is named Taiwo and the second
Ibeji are children who enjoy games and sweets
who bring harmony and happiness to their environment
They are sons of divinities Xangô and Iansã
They are syncretized with Saint Cosmas and Damian
The day on which most caruru parties take place is September 27th
Syncretism is believed to exist only because both religions celebrate twin brothers
Cosmas and Damian were doctors and lived in Asia Minor
Their holiness is attributed to the fact that they practiced medicine without charge
and performed miracles provided by their prayers
victims of a persecution of the Roman emperor Diocletian
Offering caruru to many people is to attract joy and renewal
the Bahians in particular have the tradition of celebrating baptisms and birthdays offering a caruru to the guests
The desire is that child joy always exists in you
and that happiness will remain in you the rest of the year
the Feast of Santa Barbara and Iansã is celebrated
The streets of Pelourinho are taken by the red color
used in the devotees’ clothing and also in the flower petals that cover the floor where the procession goes
When the image of the saint passes in front of Filhos de Gandhy headquarters
It all starts very early with an outdoor mass in Largo do Pelourinho
from where the image comes from the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary of the Black People in procession to the Barroquinha Fire Department barracks
Among the most traditional carurus there are the one at Santa Bárbara Market and the one at São Miguel Market
1- The recipe is made with okra cut in small pieces
Tradition says that anyone who finds an entire okra on the plate should offer a caruru next year
2- Traditional caruru is served in clay nagés
a ceramic bowl commonly used for food offered to orixás
3- Who offers the caruru must cut the first okra and
put the food at the feet of the saints in new containers and make a wish
4- The chicken used for the xinxim cannot be bought dead
The person who cooks should cut the animal
For those who have already written in the networks the phrase “I accept invitations for caruru” but hasn’t been invited to eat the caruru in anyone’s house yet
we suggest three very cool places to eat the darling dish of September
there is an option called “Banquete dos Ibejis”
For dessert there is also tapioca ice cream with rapadura syrup
Dona Mariquita restaurant prepares a dish with twelve items
which is served throughout the month of September
If you are looking for an immersive experience
our tip is to go to one of the most classic carurus in the city
This caruru has been offered there for over 20 years
The Chapéu de Couro stand – which sells artifacts
leaves and images of the sacred rites – starts serving from noon on
Take the opportunity to talk to André Nery
the merchant and babalorixá who has many stories to tell
Important: The market is currently being refurbished
so it may be more complicated to move around
Two very cool places to buy the ingredients
or to learn more about Bahian gastronomic culture
are the free markets: Feira de São Joaquim and Mercado de Itapuã
Feira de São Joaquim is the largest free fair in the city of Salvador
it is the main distributor of clay handicrafts (pots produced in the Bahia recôncavo)
and place to sell products for candomblé rituals
This fair is also the darling place for photographers eager for everyday images of an original Bahia
full of characters and workers who represent the majority of this land’s people
dehydrated shrimp and objects such as beaded necklaces
baskets and African fabrics make the colors of this place a symbol of a real Salvador

Besides having a structure to sell fair products such as fruits

which house from modern sea-view restaurants to shoemakers
Take advantage of the tour to meet other interesting points in the neighborhood

Print RIO DE JANEIRO — In a rare moment shielded from the world’s eyes
Pope Francis on Friday privately counseled young prisoners from several Rio de Janeiro jails
who in turn used the visit to draw attention to one of the most notorious massacres involving authorities in recent Brazilian history
it was a profoundly personal act in his very public weeklong pilgrimage to the world’s largest Roman Catholic country
it was an eager moment to draw attention to human rights abuses
The celebrations here marking World Youth Day are being attended by hundreds of thousands of faithful
and later Friday included the symbolic reenactment of the crucifixion of Christ on the glistening white sands of Copacabana beach
Down the beach from where the Stations of the Cross would be walked
men and women in skimpy bathing suits were spiking volleyballs
skateboarding and sipping juice from green coconuts
He’s happy and this is a happy place,” said Ana Karina Fuentes
a 24-year-old medical student hoisting a gigantic flag from her native Chile
the pope prayed with the eight young inmates
“The pope had strong words of encouragement for each one,” his spokesman
and they presented him with a rosary that was inscribed with the words
a group of gunmen that included police opened fire on homeless children who had sought shelter in the Candelaria Roman Catholic Church in Rio
The session completed the Pope’s effort to address a triumvirate of key themes
young men and women in the throes of drug addiction and recovery
to decry corruption and urge officials to do more to help their people
The prisoners represented youth in distress
Lombardi also revealed that the former Cardinal Jorge Maria Bergoglio of Argentina
has continued to telephone a group of inmates in a Buenos Aires detention center every two weeks
“He is their shepherd … their friend,” Lombardi said
The Vatican did not say what crimes the prisoners who met with the pope were charged with or convicted of
although there was a hint some might soon receive a pardon
There has been a movement in some Brazilian government circles
to lower the age at which suspects can be tried as adults
prone to deadly riots and rife with disease
Francis started Friday by celebrating Mass with his fellow Jesuits and then hearing the confessions -- in Portuguese
Spanish and Italian -- of five people chosen by raffle
help us to interpret God’s plan for each of us,” one of the five
the pope lunched with 12 young people from around the world
not one of the more Catholic countries on the planet
“There is a joke in Russia: It is easier to take all the Catholics in Russia to the pope
than for the pope to go to Russia,” said Polina Grigorieva
a contrast to his more erudite and sometimes esoteric predecessor Pope Benedict XVI
Francis went off script and chatted with pilgrims from his native Argentina
telling them it was time to give the church status quo a run for its money
“What do I expect from World Youth Day?” he said in a hastily arranged meeting with the Argentines on Thursday
he said the religious must get out into the streets and shake things up
a culture that worships money like a god allows a “hidden euthanasia” of the elderly and a marginalization of the young
that special attention must be paid to the two extremes of the human chronological experience
have been repeated in the pope’s remarks and thoughts
In his Angelus prayer on Friday from the balcony of the St
“How important grandparents are for family life
for passing on the human and religious heritage which is so essential for each and every society,” the pope said
“How important it is to have intergenerational exchanges and dialog
especially within the context of the family … This relationship and this dialog between generations is a treasure to be preserved and strengthened.”
Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes on Friday accepted responsibility for less-than-perfect logistics during the pope’s visit
including snags in public transportation and failures of electricity and water distribution
This came after heavy rain and cold temperatures forced organizers to shift the location of the pope’s final events from a field outside Rio back to Copacabana Beach
there was grumbling about wasted money invested in preparations of the Guaratiba Field
Government spending is an especially sensitive issue in a country roiled recently by raucous protests over the high costs of events like next year’s World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games
Just draining one river at Guaratiba cost about $2.7 million
the Brazilian daily Folha de Sao Paulo reported
the papal visit is believed to be costing around 20 times that
And transferring massive events back to Copacabana hopelessly clogs one of Rio’s most iconic and busy neighborhoods
“Things aren’t perfect; we have an obligation to be perfect -- that’s my job,” the mayor said

BRAZIL: The state of São Paulo has signed a formal agreement transferring the concession to build
operate and maintain São Paulo metro Line 6 from the Move São Paulo consortium to the Acciona-led Concessionária Linha Universidade
with the aim of restarting the project which has been at a standstill since 2016
The PPP contract for construction of the 15·3 km north-south Line 6
was awarded to the Move São Paulo consortium in mid-2013
but was suspended in September 2016 when the concessionaire ran into financial difficulties
In December 2018 the state government decided to formally end the contract
but the parties agreed that the consortium would continue to work on site
initially until August 2019 and then until May 2020
This provided time for the state to begin negotiations in November for Acciona to acquire a majority stake in Move São Paulo
Line 6 will run from São Joaquim station on metro Line 1 in the city centre to Brasilândia in the northwest
with 15 stations serving destinations including several universities
Around 15% of the construction has so far been completed
and work is expected to take a further five years
This will be followed by 19 years of operation and maintenance of the infrastructure
Announcing the transfer of the concession on October 5
Acciona said the R$15bn Orange Line was the largest public-private infrastructure project under development in Latin America
and the largest infrastructure project the company has taken on in its history
It said it had the technical expertise and experience of urban transport projects needed for Line 6
having undertaken 44 projects in seven countries
built more than 3 000 km of railway and metro track and completed 600 km of tunnels
BRAZIL: São Paulo metro Line 6 PPP consortium Concessionária Linha Universidade has closed a R$6·9bn financing deal with development bank BNDES
Stoa (12·3%) and Transdev (1%) said the R$18bn public-private infrastructure project to build the 15·3 km line ..
BRAZIL: A one-stop extension of São Paulo monorail Line 15 from São Mateus to Jardim Colonial was inaugurated on December 29
taking the operational length of the line to 13∙4 km
Initially the station is only open between 10.00 and 15.00 each day
BRAZIL: The ViaMobilidade joint venture of CCR and RuasInvest has selected Alstom to supply 36 eight-car Metropolis trainsets for São Paulo suburban lines 8 and 9
which it is to take over from CPTM in January 2022 under a 30-year operating and maintenance concession

e a 2ª maior nevasca do nosso país e a maior do nosso estado

caso o órgão ministerial confirme o trabalho escravo
