Real estate investment and development firm Aurea Finvest has announced plans for an 800MW data center project in Sumaré in the state of São Paulo
which will see R$5 billion (US$830.3m) of investment
is set to span 500,000 sqm with 300,000 sqm of built area
Aurea Finvest told DCD that construction is expected to begin in around 18 months
Further specifications and details have not been shared
The company is in talks with regulatory bodies concerning energy capacity
The announcement is part of Aurea Finvest’s strategy to focus on data center investments. In December last year, the company sold the land that is now set to house Tecto’s 200MW data center
“Brazil has stood out on the international stage as one of the most promising markets for data center infrastructure
The combination of renewable energy sources
and favorable geography positions the country as a strategic hub for global operations,” said Marcelo Hannud
He added the company chose Sumaré because of its robust infrastructure and proximity to important power transmission networks
Aurea Finvest has more than 35 years of experience in the real estate sector
The company says it manages all asset development phases

For the fourth release on their newly established Jazz Is Dead label
composers Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad team up with Azymuth
It’s a partnership forged through a mutual appreciation of groove
where the starting point is the relentless momentum of the trio’s samba-driven sound
bring the sharp edge of hip-hop and the futuristic whir of electronics to bear
Their background in syncretism perhaps helped to actualize the gospel-blues intro
jazz organ and Latin syncopation on “Friendship Samba.” And who knew that the melée of scratchy synthesizer
disco rhythm guitar and shifting time signatures would prove to be so much fun on “Apocolyptíco”
the rhythmic engine for this ambitious undertaking
continues to distinguish itself as a creative force decades after its founding
On “Cat Jump” and “Fall Afternoon,” Alex Malheiros’ sleek electric bass provides just the right amount of tensile strength to hold the throaty sax
legato synth and forceful drum parts together
And keyboardist Lincoln Kiko Continentino displays not just a cool
modern sensibility through long-sustained chords and looping phrases on “Ao Redor Do Samba,” but a deep capacity for lyrical melodies on “Pulando Corda.” Drummer Ivan “Mamão” Conti
shoulders most of the responsibility for the album’s complex feels: the retro funk of “Sumaré,” the polyrhythmic swing of “Quiet Storm.” Throughout the album

Company looking to expand existing São Paulo Azure cloud region
Microsoft is planning a new data center in São Paulo state
Liberal reports that Microsoft is developing a new data center in Sumaré
likely to expand its existing São Paulo Azure cloud region
The facility will be located on the banks of the Venâncio Calegari Municipal Road
The project has already received approval from Cetesb (Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo)
Microsoft launched a São Paulo Azure cloud region – known as Brazil South – in Campinas in 2014. It was expanded to three availability zones in 2021
The company announced plans for a second Brazilian region – Brazil Southeast – in Rio de Janeiro in 2020
The site is no longer listed on the company’s site and has been re-classified as a ‘reserved access region’
Microsoft has previously said such secondary locations are “optimized for disaster recovery that can support scenarios such as helping meet data residency requirements or specific risk & regulatory compliance needs for geographic isolation.”

If you aren’t a frequent visitor to 7-Eleven Hawai‘i
They have been killing it with their ready-to-eat food offerings
pho and saimin and trendy local items like Spanish rolls from Nanding’s Bakery and Pomai Kūlolo from Kapa‘a Quarry Road
Now this list includes dim sum from Yung Yee Kee
I learned this from a post on Yung Yee Kee’s Instagram announcing a collaboration with 7-Eleven Hawai‘i
some of the restaurant’s most popular dim sum items are being sold at 65 7-Eleven stores statewide
since as far as Honolulu’s dim sum restaurants go
I had to find out: Can these convenience store versions make the transition from yum cha to oh yeah
Located on Kapi‘olani Boulevard in front of Ala Moana Center
Yung Yee Kee has been drawing crowds since opening in early 2020
formerly of Chinatown’s Legend Seafood
meat dishes and signature salted egg custard bun are consistently well-executed and delicious
SEE ALSO: Upscale Dim Sum Is Now on Kapiolani and It’s Excellent
Not all of Yung Yee Kee’s dim sum is at 7-Eleven
durability and ability to maintain quality:
these items are not identified with any mention of Yung Yee Kee; in fact
they’re mixed in with similarly unlabeled bao buns and other manapua from Warabeya USA
so even store clerks may not know the difference
And they’re in both the heated manapua case and the refrigerated section
I bought these items from the chill box and reheated them at home
The sticky rice is the most enjoyable of the three and provides a near-restaurant flavor
the packets of mochi rice studded with plant-based meat
dried shrimps and Chinese mushrooms retain their moistness after being microwaved for 75 seconds
I could eat just these for lunch with a small dish of chili crisps and shoyu for dipping
The same can be said for the thin-skinned Chiu Chow dumpling
a vegetarian offering filled with colorful succulents and crunchy bits
Note that these dumplings need to be eaten soon after being reheated
as the wrappings tend to harden when cooled down
heat one package at a time to get the best result
but microwaving makes the steamed bread a little gummy and overly chewy
get this one from the store’s steam box or steam it at home. The filling holds up to reheating and maintains that distinctive salty-sweet flavor and velvety molten texture that made me such a big fan
Yung Yee Kee’s convenience store dim sum is quite enjoyable
another solid success for a quick 7-Eleven meal or snack
Next time hunger strikes and you’re near a 7-Eleven
And don’t forget to let us know what you think

The state of São Paulo is often referred to as the “the locomotive of Brazil”
It is the most populous with over 43 million inhabitants
and this is the location where Yara runs its most modern operations in Brazil
which is heavily influenced by Yara’s Brazilian operations
is quite small compared to other Brazilian cities
wearing a white helmet with a well-known Viking ship on the front
the result of a BRL (USD 45) 115 million investment
has a warehousing capacity of 115 thousand tons and state of the art process automation for product quality and safety
It strengthens Yara's commitment to Brazil and the development of agriculture in this key market
"This opening ceremony marks the consolidation of Yara's strategy of shaping the standard of the fertilizer market in the country," said Yara Brazil President Lair Hanzen
"The blending unit in Sumaré is next to important highways that connect the region to the main farming areas and the Port of Santos and railway systems - which will speed final product deliveries and raw material arrivals."
The location of the unit will allow Yara to take advantage of the Rumo transport and warehouse terminal
using trucks arriving with crops to return carrying fertilizer to agricultural regions
"Another advantage is Sumaré's dry weather
and delivers a high quality product," Lair says
The ceremony was attended by Norwegian dignitaries from the local embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
as well as President and CEO Torgeir Kvidal and Head of Downstream Egil Hogna
a sign of the importance of the Sumaré launch - and of Brazil for Yara's growth strategy
CEO Kvidal spoke about exactly this strategic importance at the launch
and also highlighted the primary importance of safety to Yara
"Safety is always our top priority and we work every day to improve it."
"Adding to what the CEO said about the importance of Brazil to Yara as a global fertilizer company - we are also mindful that agriculture is a major driver for the Brazilian economy," Egil said
"Brazil has increasingly grown its share of world agriculture
specialization of producers and increasingly judicious choice of products that help increase farming productivity and profitability," he added
The new facility's cutting edge features include a chemical analysis lab

3M is investing in R&D and creating its own metrics to drive innovation
at left with some of her team in Sumaré (SP)Léo Ramos
Using science to improve peoples’ lives while at the same time constantly working to update the product line
These directives guide performance of the 8,200 professionals employed worldwide by the research and development unit (R&D) of the US company 3M
the company has a world-class facility in Sumaré
a city some 100 kilometers away from São Paulo
“It’s 3M’s main research laboratory in the southern hemisphere,” says Camila Cruz Durlacher
the unit’s 42-year-old R&D director in Brazil
The company makes a diversified product line that includes adhesives
stethoscopes and power transmission cables in addition to the ubiquitous Post-It Notes
Proof that innovation really is a strategic guideline for the company’s business is the fact that 35% of its global sales come from products introduced in just the last five years – a percentage that is a bit lower in Brazil (28%)
“Our global objective is to raise this rate to 40% by 2020
Aggressive product renovation is one of our trademarks,” says Durlacher
who earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Campinas (Unicamp) and her master’s degree in materials science and engineering from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar)
The internal metrics that drive innovation at 3M was christened the New Product Vitality Index (NPVI)
which measures the percentage of total sales from innovative products introduced all over the world in the past five years
Created by company technicians in the 1980s
today it is used by other companies such as Apple
as a way to measure a company’s level of innovation
Constant renovation of the portfolio is rooted in new R&D investments
The outcome of this investment translates to the launch of 80-100 new products in Brazil every year
we’ve applied for 5,800 patents (most for products developed in other countries) in Brazil
we’ve accounted for an annual average of 47 patents and industrial design registrations – nearly four per month,” says Durlacher
the company registered its 100,000th patent in 2015
The company’s ongoing effort to create new technological solutions has been widely recognized
according to the Best Innovator survey conducted annually by the A.T
“3M Brazil is a source of new products for the firm’s subsidiaries elsewhere in the world
The company doesn’t just develop products; it develops complete systems around them,” wrote the editors of Best Innovator during the award presentation
Léo RamosAnalysis of microorganisms in food security laboratoryLéo Ramos
Innovations at 3M are classified as one of three categories: incremental
Those from class 3 related to incremental innovation includes examples of a new version of Scotch-Brite that works better
are existing products or technologies that have undergone some sort of modification or are now targeting a new market
This can take the form of an industrial filter
developed by the company based on existing filters in their portfolio
but targeted to the Brazilian oil and gas market
The class 5 category related to radical innovation represents brand new items created to serve a market segment in which the company had not yet been active
new products are developed by a team of 162 professionals made up of chemists
Half of them have completed or are pursuing graduate studies – 10% have doctorates
7% are pursuing master’s degrees and 8% are pursuing MBAs
The R&D team supports the company’s 23 business units in Brazil
the largest of which have dedicated laboratories
The group has five plants in São Paulo and one unit in Manaus
Léo RamosTest for characterization of mineral particles used to develop abrasivesLéo Ramos
3M was established in the United States in 1902 as Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co
The mining business failed to prosper so a few years later
3M began to manufacture abrasive materials
These were the first products for the company that today owns a portfolio that comprises over 55,000 items
Organizational changes R&D operations in Brazil are some of the company’s oldest – commencing shortly after the 1946 establishment of 3M’s first plant in Brazil
“In the seven decades in which 3M has operated here
what changed was the way we organize R&D
Then it started to report to the business divisions and then in the late 1990s
it was finally set up as an executive office of R&D,” Durlacher notes
Léo RamosMorphological assessment of double-sided tapeLéo Ramos
An important event in the trajectory of the multinational in Brazil occurred in 2008 with the inauguration of the Research & Development Laboratory in Sumaré (SP)
which essentially brought together the innovative activities that had been carried out at the plant and became part of the global 3M R&D network comprised of 35 units
the Brazil laboratory is now considered world-class
no longer focusing exclusively on the creation of products based on local demand
the company invested US$13 million to expand the R&D Laboratory and its Customer Technical Center (CTC)
“The CTC is the link between R&D and the customer,” explains chemical engineer Edmilson Silva Cavalcanti
in charge of developing new product applications for the industrial tapes and adhesives division
“There we do quality control on our products before final delivery
train customers and conduct validation tests,” says Cavalcanti
Vale and Santander are among the multinational’s main customers
along with such companies as automobile and home appliance manufacturers
Noteworthy among the hundreds of innovations developed by 3M in Brazil is a dust control liquid aimed at the mining industry
The product is sprayed on the open iron ore freight cars
forming a protective film that retains dust and prevents the loss of material along the way during train travel
“We created this product for the local market
it’s now produced and sold by other subsidiaries today,” says chemist João Roberto Talamoni
he is technical coordinator of one of 3M’s laboratories devoted to polymer synthesis
Another distinctive product developed in Brazil was a high-flow industrial filter designed for the oil and gas market
Local development was driven mainly by national content regulations in oil and gas market concession contracts
enacted for the purpose of increasing the domestic industry’s ability to participate on a competitive basis in exploration and production programs
Mexico and Singapore,” underscores chemical engineer Rosana Emi Tamagawa
“The product was born out of a need in the domestic market
but today it’s available all over the world.” Overseeing the laboratory that supports the 3M business division
Tamagawa is a graduate of the Lorena School of Engineering
earned master’s and doctoral degrees from Unicamp
as well as a post-doctorate from the Institute for Technological Research (IPT)
The team of Brazilian scientists has also been involved in developing a new generation of double-sided acrylic tapes known as VHB (very high bond)
The product has superior bonding capacity for securing various materials
parts in aircraft cabins and structural components in major home appliances
I went to South Korea to meet with the global team involved in developing the new VHB tapes
scheduled for market launch in the second half of this year,” says 37-year-old chemical engineer Márcia Ferrarezi
who leads the project in Brazil and holds master’s and doctorates in materials sciences and engineering from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar)

Two days after the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) announced formation of Frontier Naga Territory for the six districts under Eastern Nagaland; a rally was organized by the Sumi inhabitants of Kiphire and Shamator districts under the aegis of Eastern Sümi Hoho at Seyochung town demanding exclusion of Eastern Sumi territory from the purview of the new arrangement.
The Sumi inhabitants of Kiphire and Shamator districts are unhappy that the ENPO has projected Eastern Nagaland as belonging only to the seven tribes comprising Sangtam, Yimchunger, Chang, Phom, Khiamniungan, Thikir and Konyak while excluding Sumi tribe, which also claims to be one of the major tribes in Kiphire district with Sangtam and Yimchunger.
It is now demanding that all Sumi inhabited area under the two districts of Eastern Nagaland be placed under the Nagaland state administration and not under the recently accepted arrangement of Frontier Naga Territory.
The rally which began at the public ground with a brief programme saw hundreds of Sumi people from Kiphire and Shamator area in attendance, it is learnt. The people later marched to the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Seyochung and handed over a memorandum addressed to Nagaland Chief Minister.
Placards which read ‘we will live under Nagaland state administration,’ ‘our land and territory and population shall not exist with ENPO,’ ‘we demand Eastern Sumi territory, population census and electoral be merged with Zunheboto district which is the immediate district with land continuity,’ ‘Our right to live is our choice,’ etc were displayed during the rally.
According to the memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, the Eastern Sümi Hoho reiterated the Eastern Sumi public resolution dated 25th October 2022 at Nikiye village to continue to exist politically, economically, and administratively with present state of Nagaland in the event of any negotiated solution is made between GoI and ENPO.
It demanded exclusion of Eastern Sumi territory, population census, and electrical roll from the purview of the demand or negotiation or solution/settlement that may take place between GoI and ENPO and to merge the Sumi areas/villages under Kiphire district to Zunheboto district Nagaland which is the immediate district with land continuity.
“The right to life and personal liberty is a fundamental right guaranteed to all the citizens of India. Our choice is to be respected and honoured,” the memorandum asserted.
Eastern Sümi Hoho general secretary, Bothuka speaking to The Morung Express said since the ENPO began talks for Frontier Nagaland and leading to the present arrangement; the Eastern Sumis has been excluded from all the talks and negotiations. “We don’t know what kind of arrangement they have made, we were not made privy to any of it,” the general secretary said.
“Therefore whatever solution they are getting, we are happy for them but we don’t want to be a part of them,” Bothuka said. He also informed that more than a thousand people from all walks of life participated in the rally on Thursday.
Do you think social media platforms are strengthening or weakening journalism in Nagaland? Why?
The Morung Express is a people-oriented alternative newspaper based in Nagaland that was conceived from the Naga people’s historical realities and is guided by their voices and experiences. It emerged from the well-recognized concept that the core of a free press is based on “qualitative and investigative” journalism. TARK Taproom, a sports bar located in SCBD's Elysee Lot, makes its case for being the merry oasis for all kinds of sports aficionados.
Sports bars are nothing new in Jakarta. Finding an authentic one, however, is a different matter altogether. After all, a bar might not easily be identified as a sports bar simply because it has pool tables and a colossal plasma screen playing Champions League from opening hours until closing time.
Yoyo Hart, the marketing director of STARK Taproom, took pride in his bar for being the exception to the rule. From his point of view, the key to running an authentic sports bar lies in its universal appeal. In other words, whether the bar in question would be able to appease all kinds of sports aficionados -- whether they are soccer ultras, racing tifosi or cycling buffs.
"Ideally, a sports bar should be able to embrace all kinds of contents -- because there are so many sports contents out there, all year long. Also, each content gathers its own, distinctive crowd," explained Yoyo to The Jakarta Post on Aug. 3.
He continued, "That's why we [sports bars] shouldn't have to think too much about it. If this were a bar with a general concept, we should think about how to gather the crowd. But here? We created this bar by understanding that we should strongly root ourselves within the communities -- not just the sports community, but also the lifestyle community. STARK Taproom was built in those communities."
Located in Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD)'s Elysee Lot, STARK Taproom was the brainchild of Indonesian premium-craft beer-brand STARK and Mitra Karya Adiperkasa. From expansive dim sum variations to even more expansive beer selections, STARK Taproom strives to be the late-night refuge for all Jakarta urbanites -- regardless of whether they are a fan of Liverpool, the Chicago Bulls or Max Verstappen.
The plan to open a sports bar was concocted in 2018, with the bar's construction taking place the following year. STARK Taproom opened its doors to its first customers in December 2019, though its official opening was held in March 2020.
Yoyo divulged that one of the reasons Elysee Lot was chosen as the bar's site was due to an inclination to build an "ecosystem", considering Elysee Lot also serves as the site for Mitra Karya Adiperkasa's other pubs: LBRTY Jakarta and Embassy Jakarta. How the Elysee Lot is situated in the heart of the SCBD complex was also of crucial importance.
Yoyo further added, "Traffic flow-wise, if anyone is departing from SCBD complex and heading for Gatot Subroto street, they would be able to see [Elysee Lot] clearly."
Serving as the marketing manager of STARK Taproom, Ang acknowledged that, over time, Jakarta's bar scene has become more competitive due to "the abundant number of bars”, he later noted. That said, he remarked that such competition had never put him or STARK Taproom in disarray.
"Because we're different [from most bars]," voiced Ang. "We have our own uniqueness. And there has yet to be any bar in Jakarta that has a Videotron like ours so that the patrons get to watch soccer or basketball properly. The patrons can also smoke indoors [here] and we serve lots of flavored beers."
Running a bar during a global pandemic has been a herculean challenge for bars and other food-and-beverage establishments -- STARK Taproom included. Yoyo credited the bar's staff for exhibiting "great dedication" during those trying times. To keep the bar afloat, he further divulged that the bar mostly relied on online delivery.
Once the pandemic seemed to have petered out, however, things were starting to look up.
"Fortunately, the patrons who had frequented our bar have also longed for us -- especially our food and drinks," Yoyo said.
The year 2022 became STARK Taproom's much-anticipated epoch to optimize its fullest potential. The bar's Champions League Finals viewing party, taking place in May, was a full-house euphoria, Ang noted.
A karaoke party is set every Monday whereas an acoustic, live-music session dubbed "The Broken Heart Club" is scheduled every Wednesday, aiming at patrons who "just left the office and want to chill out", Ang pointed out.
During the weekends, STARK Taproom holds a brunch event dubbed "Uptown Bike" that caters particularly to Jakarta urbanites who enjoy cycling on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The bar is also pet-friendly; an event dubbed "Doggy Date Day" would be held regularly on Sunday.
"Every patron who brings their dog [on Sunday] gets a 10-percent discount," Ang highlighted.
There are no limitations when it comes to which sports tournament could be considered for STARK Taproom's next viewing parties -- some of the viewing parties the bar has thrown include, but are not limited to, Formula 1, NBA Games, Thomas Cup and Australian Rugby League.
To Ang's and Yoyo's delight, the bar's viewing parties, soccer-related or not, have been a lively function among the patrons.
"Thanks to social media, sports communities have become stronger than ever. That's why we wanted this bar to become a receptacle for these communities," said Yoyo.
"We would partner up with them and come up with something that all of us can do together."
The key players behind STARK Taproom were also meticulous when it comes to the bar's menu. For instance, while beers are a typical staple in every sports bar, STARK Taproom decided to elevate its beer collection -- that is, by also serving imported beers, STARK beers and the beers produced by the "local heroes", as Yoyo put it.
"We strongly support the local brewer community," said Yoyo firmly. "We have around 21 [beer] taps and we wish to fill them with beers of local brands -- the ones that can be considered 'home industry' type. We wish to bring them here and we wish to blow them up."
Food-wise, Ang described the STARK Taproom's menu as "Asian fusion". The bar, case in point, fixes varied options of the so-called 'Asian Pizza' such as Stark Hogs pizza that comprises char siu pork, plum sauce, feta cheese and a mix of herbs.
One of the bar's more popular dishes, as it turns out, is the dim sum platter: an assortment of steamed and/or deep-fried dim sum that include, but are not limited to, rainbow dumplings, hakau and siew mai. For patrons who are looking for a heavier plate -- and do not mind consuming pork -- nasi campur STARK is a must-try.
For the ladies who might not frequent STARK Taproom for the sports match, Ang personally recommended that they visit the bar during "apperitivo hour": A buy-one-get-one-free happy hour scheduled every day from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
As for the cocktails, Ang recommended a glass of Americano: A spiritous concoction made of Italian liqueur Campari, sweet vermouth and carbonated water.
Another cocktail that he recommended for the ladies is Garibaldi, which is a blend of Campari and orange juice.
For the younger crowd, Ang and Yoyo recommended the bar's very own BTS: Beer with added soju. It is served in three different flavors: Original, lychee or mango. Desserts such as gui ling gao and mango puree sago ice cream are the bar's features to draw in the sweet-tooth and patrons who implement a sober lifestyle.
Adrian, an entrepreneur and a regular at STARK Taproom, noted the "videotron, beer and the vibes" as the bar's strengths and most appealing elements.
"I like the food and the people. Also, the ambiance and friendliness of the staff," he summarized.
STARK Taproom opens every day. On weekdays, the bar opens from 11:30 a.m. until 2 a.m. On weekends, the bar opens from 7 a.m. until 2 a.m. Patrons under 18 years old are allowed to dine in. The bar is also available for private parties upon request, including catering services.

WOKHA — The Tsungiki-Philimi community fishing event brought together people from 18 villages belonging to the Sumi and Lotha communities on Friday. This longstanding tradition of community fishing has been practiced for the past 24 years as a way of strengthening brotherhood between the two communities.
In attendance were several ministers and legislators, including Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Tovihoto Ayemi, Kazheto Kinimi, Mhathung Yanthan, S. Kiusumew Yimchunger, Picto Shohe, Dr. Neisatuo Mero, YM Humtsoe, Dr. Sukhato and Hekani Jakhalu.
During the event, people from the two communities gather at the river and pound on bundles of piscicidal tree barks and roots (poisonous to fish) placed on logs or rocks in the flowing river, creating foam.
The fish that float due to intoxication are collected and cooked for a feast, signifying unity and brotherhood.
Addressing the gathering during a brief programme at the Doyang River, near Coco Bridge, Patton termed the age-old tradition of community fishing as a means to strengthen relationships between the Sumi and Lotha communities. He encouraged the continuation of this practice and urged other communities in Nagaland to foster cordial relationships for peace and prosperity.
He also took the opportunity to endorse the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) consensus candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the state, Dr. Chumben Murry, stating that he is a suitable representative of the people.
He went on to state that a candidate from the Lotha community is contesting in the parliamentary election for the first time since Nagaland attained statehood in 1963.
Also speaking at the event, the first women minister of Nagaland, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, lauded the event for promoting friendship between the two communities. She said that all Naga communities should have such cordial relationships so that they can grow and progress together.
She also urged the communities to vote for the PDA candidate in the interest of Nagas.
The programme included speeches by Vikikhe Assumi, Head GB of Philimi Village Council (PVC), and Janthungo Kikon, chairman of Tsungiki Village Council (TVC), with a vote of thanks delivered by Hakiye Assumi, GB Doyang Union Chairman.
The event was chaired by E Chenithung Kikon, community secretary of TVC, with an invocation prayer led by Vikashe Ziho, pastor Philimi Baptist Church.
