Three African contenders for role of secretary general call for financial measures or reparative justice
The three candidates to be the next secretary general of the Commonwealth have called for reparations for countries that were affected by slavery and colonisation
The candidates from the Gambia, Ghana and Lesotho expressed their support for either financial reparations or “reparative justice”
as they made their pitches to lead the 56-country organisation at a debate hosted by the Chatham House thinktank in London on Wednesday
Calls for reparations for the harms caused by slavery and colonialism have grown since the murder of George Floyd by police in 2020 sparked Black Lives Matter protests globally and led many governments
institutions and individuals to examine how they had historically benefited from the slave trade
African and Caribbean countries formed an alliance last year to pressure former slave-owning states to pay for “historical mass crimes”
“Financial reparations is good,” said Shirley Botchwey
“Whether or not the Commonwealth has a role to play will depend on the heads of government
who will give the secretary general her marching orders.”
said he would not wait to get involved in the reparations debate
“I support the idea of reparative justice,” he said
“The Commonwealth has a long history of facilitating discussions around difficult issues
“We’ve dealt with racism, which was even more divisive than this,” he said, a nod to the organisation’s history in helping to negotiate an end to white-minority rule in Zimbabwe and later South Africa
said: “I am fully in support of reparatory justice
The Commonwealth can use its convening power to facilitate the dialogue and make it happen.”
The Commonwealth evolved from the ashes of the British empire
all but four of them former British colonies
King Charles is the ceremonial head of the organisation
having taken over after the death of his mother
All three candidates to succeed Patricia Scotland as secretary general batted off suggestions that it was a colonial relic
arguing that countries had made an independent choice to be a part of a grouping they said could advocate for action on climate change and youth unemployment
The leadership vote will take place at the Commonwealth heads of government meeting in Samoa from 21 to 26 October
Last week, a nationwide survey found that 98% of Australian teenagers report feeling anxiety or pessimism
and one in five rated their mental health as poor
While this challenge is certainly not lost on schools, governments and communities who are working hard to turn the tables, a growing body of research shows that intervention strategies and programs that target groups with behavioural indicators can have a profoundly positive impact
mentors and parents meet once a term to contribute their own insights about the student’s progress ensuring that school and homework as one in the best interest of the child
The school's one-on-one mentoring system
run by the Parents for Education Foundation (PARED)
uniquely pairs each student with a staff mentor for biweekly meetings
and social development while reducing bullying and offering essential learning and psychological support
Rita Sakr said the genesis of the mentoring program at Tangara School for Girls was influenced by several key factors
reflecting “a commitment to providing a holistic education and fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for students.”
“The program recognises parents as primary educators
aiming to align school and family values for holistic student development,” Sakr told The Educator
“It supports the ‘Education of the Whole Person,’ focusing on academic
Sakr said the need for individualised support drove the creation of the program
allowing students to receive personalised guidance
“Strengthening the school-home partnership was crucial
fostering communication and collaboration with parents,” she said
“The program emphasises character education
teaching virtues like integrity and resilience.”
Sakr said addressing mental health is also a big priority
providing a supportive system for stress management and resilience building
“The program aims to promote academic excellence
and encouraging students to achieve their potential,” she said
the school's vision for future growth includes creating adaptable support systems for changing student needs
with the mentoring program serving as a foundation for continuous improvement and innovation in student support.”
When asked about the changes she has observed at the school since the mentoring program was implemented
fostering a stronger school-family partnership,” she said
“Student attendance and punctuality have also improved
and bullying incidents have declined due to mentoring interventions.”
Sakr said enhanced student well-being is evident as mentors identify and address concerns
fostering empowerment and problem-solving skills
“Greater accountability among students regarding behaviour and responsibilities is apparent
alongside notable character development,” she said
Sakr said the mentoring program “reinforces virtues and personal excellence”
the program has significantly enhanced the school environment
ensuring students receive comprehensive support and guidance,” she said
“These changes demonstrate the program's effectiveness in creating a nurturing environment that supports students' overall growth and success
contributing to their development as well-rounded individuals who excel academically
aligning with Tangara School's commitment to holistic education.”
Another important benefit of the mentoring program
is that it has significantly strengthened school-parent relationships and collaboration
“Parents receive immediate support from mentors
fostering open communication and ensuring they are informed and involved in their child's education,” she said
“Regular meetings provide holistic feedback on academic progress and personal growth
Sakr said mentors prevent students from "falling through the cracks" by monitoring and addressing issues early
“They serve as primary contacts for both student development and parental support
Mentors align values and expectations between school and home
sharing insights into academic and social development,” she said
the program aligns with parents' desire for well-rounded children
Collaborative goal setting involves parents
Sakr said mentors offer practical parenting advice
“The mentoring system builds trust and mutual respect
Tailored approaches address individual needs
empowering students and ensuring successful outcomes through combined efforts of parents
Sakr said mentoring program emphasises personalised mentoring for academic and personal excellence by recognising individual needs
encouraging growth and development beyond a ‘one size fits all’ approach
“Mentors serve as positive role models
empowering students to become confident leaders and change agents,” she said
“The program integrates virtues and values education
Parent involvement is enhanced through information evenings and workshops
fostering a cohesive support system.”
Sakr said a focus on mental health and well-being includes training mentors in mental health first aid and promoting a supportive school culture
The program's vision includes expanding mentoring to provide emotional support and counselling services
promoting holistic student development,” she said
“This comprehensive approach strengthens Tangara School's culture of ‘Education of the Whole Person,’ preparing students for success in academics

“It is regrettable that we continue to witness a year-long period of devastation
oppression and terror against Gaza and the Palestinians
including the recent attacks on the Republic of Lebanon and the Islamic Republic of Iran
As we gather here the illegal occupation of Palestine and the attacks on Lebanon continue to be a source of immense pain and suffering
These unlawful acts not only undermine the prospects for a peaceful resolution of the conflict but also exacerbate the tensions within the Middle East region
and threaten international peace and security
The humanitarian catastrophe currently in Gaza and other Palestinian territories occupied by Israel are both profound and devastating
with far-reaching consequences not only for the region but for the Muslim Ummah and international community as well
The conflict disproportionately affects the most vulnerable populations
Many children have been orphaned or separated from their families
facing trauma and lack of access to education
which could have long-lasting effects on their development and the future stability of the region
Gaza's economy has been weakened by years of blockade and continuous destruction
affecting numerous infrastructure facilities such as roads
and farms that are critical to economic activities
This economic degradation not only deepens poverty but also impedes future recovery and increases dependence on international aid
The escalation of the conflict and tensions in Gaza
and areas along the Lebanon – Israeli border including Iran risks broader regional instability
the conflict could lead to a further polarization between different factions and states in the Middle East
complicating peace efforts and potentially drawing in larger international powers
The catastrophe in Gaza calls for an urgent and coordinated international response to alleviate human suffering
and foster a durable peace that addresses the root causes of the conflict
It is crucial for us to come together in full solidarity and unity to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those that are in need and work towards a sustainable political solution that promotes peace and security for all the people in the region
The Gambia continues to strongly condemn the genocidal and heinous acts
war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against the Palestinians by the Israeli occupying forces
These genocidal actions are in absolute violation of the Geneva Convention and other relevant provisions of International Humanitarian Law and all international and humanitarian norms
We also wish to express our deep concern over the recent enactment of laws by the Israeli Parliament (the Knesset) banning the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees
which is in total contravention of the UN Charter and International Law
my delegation underscores the fact that UNRWA operates under the mandate of the UN General Assembly
the Geneva Convention and other International Humanitarian Law instruments
as well as the facilitation of humanitarian access to those in need
especially during this prolonged conflict situation in Gaza and other parts of Palestine
The sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nation-States are fundamental principles underpinning the international order
as articulated in the United Nations Charter
the OIC Charter and other International Agreements
The consequences of not respecting these principles often lead to destabilization
crimes against humanity and human suffering
emphasizing the need for adherence to international norms and laws
The Gambia strongly believes that the Two – State Solution is a pre-requisite for stability and durable peace in the Middle East
we call for the immediate mobilization and deployment of joint Arab-Islamic resources
in collaboration with members of the international community to achieve a durable ceasefire and the unconditional release of all hostages
thereby paving the way for a lasting peace that respects the rights and sovereignty of all states and peoples
we reiterate our call for an International Peace Conference
for the achievement of a lasting solution to the Palestinian - Israeli problem
the best option for a peaceful and durable settlement of this prolonged dispute between the two States is a Peace Accord based on the Two-State Solution guaranteeing both states their legitimate and inalienable rights to full sovereignty and self-determination

which is probably one of the reasons why the Apple iPod and similar devices have fallen by the wayside in recent years
But sometimes you don’t want the distractions of a modern, internet-connected device with a touchscreen color display, so there are still some companies selling purpose-built portable music players. Tangara stands out as an unusual device that combines a classic iPod-like design with open source software and an open hardware platform (which means you can build your own or customize the design)
After previewing a crowdfunding campaign in December
the developers behind Tangara launched a campaign with Crowd Supply earlier this month and easily surpassed their $10,000 goal
more than 300 people have backed the campaign
The crowdfunding campaign runs through March 14th, and backers can reserve a Tangara device for a pledge of $249. Rewards are expected to ship in mid-September
The portable music player is a palm-sized device that’s easy to fit in a pocket
You can navigate the on-screen menus using a click-wheel with support for capacitive touch input and two hardware buttons
but it also supports Bluetooth 4.2 audio (SBC codec only)
allowing you to use wired or wireless headphones
There’s also support for WiFi 4 and a USB-C port for charging
It’s powered by a 2,200 mAh battery that the developer say should offer up to 20 hours of audio playback time
At the heart of the system is a 240 MHz ESP32-based microcontroller, a Cirrus Logic WM8523 digital to analog converter (DAC), and a Texas Instruments INA1620 amplifier
but features an SDXC card reader for media storage
There’s no touchscreen display, and this thing isn’t designed to run apps like Spotify or Pandora. It’s made for local audio playback, and Tangara’s open source firmware designed to play MP3
While the current firmware supports 16-bit / 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz audio
so it’s possible Tangara’s developers (or independent developers) could add support for higher-quality audio in the future

working time 50% old mechanic walkman analog
I have a basic Sony mp3 player that sounds fantastic
and sounds wayyyyyyyy better than my $200 Ipod 7th gen
not some unknown chinese crowd-funded knock-off
I don’t do crowd-funding or buy off-brands
it’s understandable; I’m very much inclined to agree
It is in essence pointless because the fiio m3 pro for instance exists
and while technically not open source it runs on ingenic linux kernel
they don’t do bad stuff and it has no wireless anyway so it can’t do anything bad
But if people want to throw money at a project that probably costs 30$ to put together… who am I to care
I’m more comfortable with it than apple’s 20$ rag or god knows how much per GB of storage
Still screams a bit “hipster scam”
My wife and I both miss our old click wheel iPods
The price is high enough that it’s not an instant-buy
hopefully it will enable them deliver a quality product and support it for some time to come
Did you know noise canceling devices have microphones
The devil uses microphones to blackmail people to betray
Bluetooth dacs and speakers have microphones
Lately a lot of devices come with apps that are run over telecom networks made outside USA where no laws can protect foreign spies from collecting sensitive information
Lol this thing is complete trash next to even $100 daps
Daps that size and price range almost always have dual DAC and amplifier chips
support for every audio file type imaginable
Shanling m1s is $25 cheaper than this but 10x better
They’re taking a bet that people don’t know daps still exist
I started looking further into the specs after I read this article the other day
I like the idea of an MP3 player with a simple interface
But if you’re looking at this device as an audiophile
the hardware and price probably doesn’t make much sense
it looks to me like the goal here isn’t to be competitive with other DAPs on the market
I think the goal is to support the open source project
and since it likely aims to be a low-volume product
mostly because the software is interesting to me
This is almost as bad as those 250 dollar gutted casio watches entombed in clear resin
All these tech buzzwords just to tell you that they cloned a product from 20 years ago
If you want an MP3 player with average sound quality and a 128px LCD screen go on eBay
there’s tons of used e-waste out there that you can buy for $5 tops
“But it’s open source this means I can 3D print a totally awesome bike clip to this barebones mp3 player holy crap!!!” then just buy a used MP3 player with a bike clip I don’t even know who the target audience for this thing is
audiophiles will be disappointed by the sound quality
people on a budget will just use their phone
and people with money will use a premium device from some known company
don’t manufacture the wooden wheel and market it as some stupid lifestyle thing
They used to have DIY kits for common household gadgets when I was younger
things like radios and telephones and motion detectors
I don’t know how common those are anymore
but since it looks like they exclusively used solder joints that can be made by hand
it might be something to sell to parents of kids who might have an interest in doing that
That being said…I really have to wonder if there’s more or less of kids who’d be interested in something like that these days
and if they’d be okay with a 3d printed case or if they’d demand a glass and metal sandwich
it can always be made into a liability if your peers all call you stupid for having it instead of an iphone
lol @ the audiophiles raging about weird-ass nerd protocols
we just want to listen to music and maybe write some lua to customize our stuff
open hardware made by one person who cares is always going to cost more
if you don’t like it go give another $1400 to astell & kern about it
This will be DOA if they don’t get 24/192 running though the onboard 3.5 output and add at least one of the Hi-Res BT audio codecs like LDAC or LHDC
All I see right now is something reminiscent of a gen 1 iPod with worse sound than any newer Android phone with a 35 dollar 7hz SeventyOne USB-C dongle DAC attached
24/192… JFC do you realize the very best
very young ears in the whole world can barely tell mp3 from flac past 160khz with modern algorithms
not to listen in the bus with 30-100$ iems
What’s the point of this if it doesn’t have a better DAC than what I can get at Best buy for fifty bucks
When it doesn’t even work with streaming services
Why couldn’t you have come out of the gate with audiophile quality sound
would be interested if the audio quality was much improved over the original
not a copy with Bluetooth and two terabyte capacity…I could just do that with my ipod
Audiophile quality sound would make this a must buy
This is pretty close to what I’m looking for
but I’ll probably stick to my original plan of using my RG Nano as a portable MP3 player
not quite as user friendly but I already own it and after looking into the creators of the Tangara… lets just say I’m on the polar opposite end of the spectrum
I’ll just do us all a favor and stay away 🙂
MP3 players can be purchased on Amazon for less than $50
Which is probably more in the realm of $800 adjusted for inflation
But since your mandatory tracking device known as a phone does the same thing these days
this thing really is kind of a pure luxury product
and it’s just not going to be a status symbol
The original iPod didn’t have much competition
and the competition was also expensive and poor quality
and while they’re not necessarily high-quality either
I’m not confident that this device will avoid that trap
it would probably work pretty well if they adopted a project like Rockbox as their firmware so it could support a lot of different functions
but I’m afraid we’ll see a pretty basic interface instead with the intent that someone else will write new software if they want to do something else
It is not in a similar situation as the iPod was
I would trust the Sandisk battery charging circuit more than a new company
Sandisk has a lot to lose if improper charging starts a fire
SanDisk 8GB Clip Jam $30. https://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-8GB-Clip-Player-Black/dp/B00VXMY262 Tips for Linux use: https://mfcallahan.blog/2023/03/24/how-to-mount-a-sandisk-clip-sport-plus-mp3-player-in-linux/
Circle controller ob ious piggybacking off of Apple e-waste designs
The parts for it cost at most $30 in total
Nothing explains the ridiculous price tag other than the crowdundee greed
I suppose part of it could be people who want an iPod-style wheel interface
which is quite popular with some people I know who still keep around iPods from a decade ago so they can have that interface
I’m not sure the firmware will be familiar enough for them to use it
but maybe that’s the feature they’re banking on
I don’t think any other manufacturer has adopted that interface on players they make
I love the fact that it uses full-size SD
I hope someone designs and sells a CNC milled aluminum housing for it
I hope they might consider adding the ability to have it act as a USB DAC through its USB-C port
reminds me of a pos Sony mp3 player bought in the 90’s… the only upgrade is possible not having DRM baked in… the irony is it is about the same price but the Sony was more compact and looked more futuristic
That’s a pretty stupid reason to not like a product
“It reminds me of something else that committed a mistake that this new product clearly will not”
the product’s sleek ergonomics gave me a panic attack
it is regurgitated hardware from the late 90’s but without the DRM
anything that reminds me of these companies drives me into fits of hate
e-waste and DRM are two huge reasons I am excited about Tangara
I hate how proprietary music players become ewaste because of a lack of continuing support and replacement parts
which has influenced a huge amount of our decision making whilst working on it
everything has been designed from the ground up to use easy to obtain components so that it can be easily repaired
Hope this helps clarify things a little more
I’m sure it is a great product and in many ways superior to an ipod
but the negative associations that comes with certain companies is enough to trigger a strong impulse to avoid having wasted money on big tech ewaste before
I’m so glad to hear that it uses the full-sized SD
This may be an odd question: was the possibility of using multiple full-SD slots explored
Either to increase the capacity to beyond 2 TB or simply to spread the load among
Or even using a compact USB drive instead of an SD
as that’s more affordable at a higher capacity
*Note: this should have been posted as a reply to jacqueline
I hope they go on to make something smaller
@liliputing_ fyi it’s a full size sd slot
@jacqueline @liliputing_ Whoops
I'm just so used to writing "micro" when I write SDXC these days

Almost $450 million will be spent on extending the life of Sydney’s decades-old Tangara passenger trains
giving the Minns government time to develop plans to build a replacement fleet in NSW and deliver on an election promise
The upgrade to the Tangara fleet will allow it to keep running on the city’s rail lines for about 12 more years – to 2036 – ensuring their service reliability until they are replaced by new trains

The 55 Tangara trains form a quarter of Sydney Trains’ rolling stock and face major reliability risks without the upgrade
They are the highest contributor to maintenance incidents on the city’s rail network
Sydney Trains’ data reveals that Tangara failures increased to 511 last year – up from 313 the prior year – resulting in 690 trip cancellations
The $447 million allocated in the state budget this month for the Tangara upgrade will be spent over the next three and a half years
The work is due to start early next year and be completed in late 2027
onboard passenger information screens will be installed

An extra $17.5 million will also be set aside in the budget to help develop a strategic business case to build the trains in NSW to replace the Tangaras
It comes after $10 million was allocated in the state budget last year for the replacement train project
Labor vowed in the lead-up to last year’s state election to build the Tangaras’ replacements in NSW and create at least 1000 long-term jobs
Its election commitment was to begin the procurement process for new trains in its first four years in power
Premier Chris Minns said building the new trains in NSW would take time
but the government was determined to do it
“We’ve had a decade of missed opportunities and thousands of jobs offshored while we purchased trains
Under Sydney Trains’ plans
the locally built Tangara replacements will enter service in the early 2030s
That means the Tangaras – recognisable to commuters for the name emblazoned on their carriages – will be more than four decades old by the time they are retired
Transport Minister Jo Haylen said the funding in the upcoming budget was the first phase of the plan to kick-start the state’s local supply chain
production capabilities and workforce to build trains in NSW
“That’s why the Tangara life extension work is vital – so we have a healthy fleet until the new locally built trains are ready,” she said
which began carrying passengers in the 1980s
have already had their lives extended by a decade and had been due to be retired by 2027
A final report from a government-commissioned review into repeated failures across the rail network identified the refit of the Tangara fleet as one of the challenges facing Sydney Trains over the next five years
The report – released in April – found that the fleet upgrade has been problematic and delayed by an “an inability to deliver the proposed scope of work
lack of configuration control and lack of support for outdated IT systems”
It warned that delays in upgrading the Tangara trains’ critical systems could threaten the rollout of digital systems on the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra line between Bondi Junction and Erskineville and between Sutherland and Cronulla in 2025
The digital systems project involves replacing old signalling and train control technology
which will allow trains to run more frequently

‘This Self-Snoozing Alarm Clock is a critical art about the culture of convenience
An alarm clock that’s design to snooze itself
using the blend of analog and digital tech components,’ notes Nico Tangara
Featuring a Raspberry Pi 2 at its core the alarm clock is connected to a servo
employing a unique mechanism wherein a hand extends from the box to manually activate the snooze button
This action activates a program which then enables the clock to snooze itself indefinitely
This alarm clock follows the designer’s past explorations of the interesting digital and analog realms to devise playful design solution
The Digitally Analog Polaroid Camera similarly employs a Raspberry Pi computer alongside the help of ChatGPT to combine the nostalgia of instant prints with the convenience of digital technology
playfully redefining the traditional wake-up call

Shake it like a digital picture—but not really
for its ability to immediately output captured photos on its display
The screen used in this project is a Waveshare 2.7-inch ePaper HAT
This HAT also sports a series of buttons off to the side
It snaps into place using the GPIO on the Raspberry Pi
Tangara uses one of the buttons to initiate a script that interacts with a camera module
the Pi processes it for the e-Ink screen and displays it
The HAT has a total of four buttons that can be programmed with custom functions
so Tangara decided to throw in a few extra features
one button can be used to clear the image from the display while another button is dedicated to showing the name of the project on the display
The case for the project was designed by Tangara, using Blender and Snapmaker. The final design was then 3D printed
It houses the Raspberry Pi 3B+ as well as the Camera Module
Although a Raspberry Pi 3 is used for this project
you could get away with using a Pi 4 or even something smaller like a Pi Zero

I spent 13 years of my life at Tangara School, the subject of last week’s Four Corners episode on ABC
I have spent months working with the program in their investigation into Opus Dei schools in Sydney
So it was incredibly disheartening to hear NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet — who I once knew personally — state: “A complaint against the schools in that program had never been made to that independent authority or the education minister’s office.”
A former student at Tangara School made contact with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) multiple times
immediately after she left the school and as recently as 2022 when our group first approached Four Corners
her concerns were dismissed and she was told that she would need to speak to the school itself
NESA’s requirements actually allow for independent schools to provide classes in addition to the curriculum
such as the religion and philosophy subjects taught by Opus Dei numeraries
This means that the student was unable to progress with a formal complaint
So what recourse is there for those receiving an Opus Dei education when the governance of the schools is also affiliated with Opus Dei
if students or parents find systemic issues within a school
where can they go for support when NESA is unwilling to investigate until they have taken it up with the institution
Perrottet also fundamentally misunderstood the silencing power of shame
we have collectively received hundreds of messages from former students at Opus Dei schools thanking us for speaking up
These messages run along similar lines: “I have been waiting for this for X years” — 10 years
I have wondered how it is possible that not one of these students has ever made a formal complaint
and it has taken me a long time to understand the damaging impact of my education
I have spent my entire adult life undoing the harmful self-beliefs instilled in me during my childhood and adolescence
As a family receiving fee relief at a private school
our financial status was leveraged against me when I questioned practices at the school
I was told by a teacher that we were a “charity case” and asked how my mother would cope if that fee relief was retracted
I was told repeatedly and by many different teachers
including the then principal and deputy principal of Tangara — both Opus Dei numeraries — that I was bad and going to hell
My principal compared me to Hitler during class
She said she would pray for me every day for the rest of my life but didn’t hold out any hope for me
This shaming usually happened publicly in front of my peers
who were told not to be friends with me because I was an evil influence
I was banned from class excursions because I was a disgrace to the school
many hours of class time on a bench outside the classroom or in the principal’s office
I was a devout Catholic until the age of 19
But I was singled out and branded as a troublemaker because I asked too many questions
particularly in our non-curriculum religion and philosophy classes
There was absolutely no room for discussion or debate at Tangara School
it affects their intrinsic sense of self-worth – and that is precisely the point
when they threatened me with eternal hellfire
it did not wash over me — I truly believed in hell
it would not even have occurred to me to complain
I didn’t tell my own mother what was happening to me at school
let alone consider going to an external body
there are no qualified counsellors that students can turn to for support
I was encouraged to confide in my Opus Dei mentor
who was also the principal of the school — the same person who was telling me repeatedly that I was going to hell for my behaviour
How would a child know how to go about contacting the education minister when they can’t even speak to a trusted staff member
What if they don’t feel comfortable informing their parents
And what if their parents are aligned with the values of the school
There simply doesn’t exist a clear avenue for students to voice their concerns and feel heard
A few days before the Four Corners episode went to air
I received a message from a former parent and employee at Tangara via my social media
She told me I was ungrateful and reminded me of the fee relief and other assistance my family had received
I still felt the pain of my teenage self being coerced into loyalty
just because complaints have not been raised
consider that there is a culture of shaming that has kept us silent all these years
International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad
Mamadou Tangara highlighted that the agreement
aims at facilitating travels between nations for individuals holding diplomatic or service passports.
“This agreement allows holders of such passports from either countries to enter
transit and stay in the territory of the other country without the need for visa
“It fosters closer diplomatic relationship and promotes cooperation between the Gambia and Indonesia and Azerbaijan
The National Assembly may review and ratify this agreement to ensure its compliance with national laws and interest,” he said
“This agreement signifies a significant step towards strengthening the diplomatic and bilateral ties between the three nations by exempting holders of diplomatic and service passports from visa requirement
It will not only facilitate smoother diplomatic exchange but also foster greater cooperation and collaboration in various fields including trade
tourism by removing barriers to travel for diplomatic and working level personals.”
expertise and resources between the two nations,” Dr
“The agreement can also facilitate business investment activities between these countries
This may lead to increase trade and investment opportunities and contributing to economic growth and development in both countries.”
both governments demonstrate their commitment to mutual respect
It serves as a symbol of cooperation and solidarity between The Gambia
Indonesia and Azerbaijan by reinforcing their commitment to positive diplomatic relations,” Tangara said
suggested that students and individuals going for medical checks should be included in the package
said looking at the geographical areas between Indonesia and Azerbaijan, “we have limited citizens of The Gambia traveling to these countries.” He thus appealed for the exemption to include all ordinary passport holders
the minister explained that “to get exemption requires lot of negotiation as we are aware the biggest challenge the world is facing is migration
taking such a decision to open up and allow each and every one to have access without visa will bring them major criticism to their countries.”
