Tonight we’re introducing a new feature: Drunk Museum Reviews
Why not combine the two for the best weekend plans there are
and me drunk-flying a pterosaur to its doom
I decided to start with a museum that I’ve been to before and already love: the American Museum of Natural History
Joining me as museum expert and camerawoman was my roommate
who loves that place more than almost anyone
Which was important because I needed her guidance the whole time
The drinks: Our goal was to beat the weekend crowds
planning to get to the museum shortly after 10 AM
Our second mistake was choosing to go on a Sunday
meaning we ran afoul of New York’s alcohol laws
where you can get a good drunk on starting at 6 AM
while I had dreams of inaugurating this adventure with some classy
we had to make do with mimosas made with the cheap champagne we had in our fridge
And the only drinking vessel we could find: A mug with an upside-down PNAS cover printed on it
we moved on to drinking rum straight from the bottle
we’re going to go on different days or go later
as I topped up my mug of improvised mimosa for the third time in half an hour at a time of day I haven’t seen in months
I really started to question my life choices
The Museum: We went to the American Museum of Natural History
we went to “Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs.” It has an interactive component
and that seemed like an excellent way to figure out our exact levels of drunkenness
The first thing you discover when drunk at a pterosaur exhibit is just how difficult it is to read the names
Why did I think there was an ‘L’ in that
but I guarantee I said it like I was a Power Ranger
Jeholopterus ningchengensis: The second part went “Ning-cheng-ensis
tapejara: I legitimately just started talking about tapas at this point
The second thing we did was go to the interactive simulation in the exhibit
At AMNH right now are three Kinect-like apparatuses that allow you to maneuver a flying pterosaur
I think I over-empathized with my virtual pterosaurs
I was somehow under the dual impressions that A) I was the pterosaur and that B) ducking and jumping was a more effective way of flying that just moving my arms slightly
Let me say that these things are fucking difficult
it says you have to flap you arms to start
but it started immediately after I stepped in front of it
This is where my over-empathy kicked in because I started yelling “NO!” and trying to get the creature safely to some lunch
only for me to hit the surface seconds later
unable to even see the splashes that indicated fish
I celebrated like I’d won the Super Bowl
One lesson taught clearly in “Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs” is that if you’re going to be a pterosaur
I also had an insane habit of flying right at a dragonfly and then
Though I maintain it was not my fault: at the end of the video below
Here’s me crashing these things all over the place and jumping like an idiot
Did you catch the part where I say “I’m just want a bug
My drunk brain had clearly decided that I was one with the pterosaur
Hence the “tapas” disaster earlier
a father pointed me out to his young child and said to watch me
at that point in no shape to be a child’s role model
and my “strategy” was to flap my arms like a hummingbird
but watching the video I realized she was more patronizing to me than any of the parents there were to their kids:
where we came face to face with this horror:
What. The. Fuck. That isn’t a real creature. That’s a Reaper from Doctor Who
And it wasn’t even the scariest one of these so-called “kites.” (The picture of the other one came out really blurry – sorry about that.) That was it for my drunken brain
I’d looked at some beautiful fossils
killed some virtual pterosaurs through incompetence
and had the crap scared out of me by a kite
Conclusion: Beyond recommending the exhibit generally
I even think that all that flapping and jumping helped burn through the alcohol
I’m also quickly coming to the conclusion that anything children love is perfect for drunks

A new, free update has hit Ark: Survival Evolved and it comes with two new critters
and The Center fantasy map has expanded today to now include 13 new mini caves
The mini-caves are explorable and located near the Edge of the World where there are more penguin spawns
The area was created by modder Ben Burkart and first released in May 2016 as part of the Ark Official Mods Program
It more than doubles the in-game geography making it a playable 70 sq. kilometers.
The new dinosaurs are the Tapejara and Archaeopteryx which are small, flying creatures. When the latter is tamed, it can be used to collect sap, or held overhead for players to “glide” over long distances.
Those who tame the Tapejara can ride the mid-size pterosaur which can strafe while in the air, cling onto walls, and carry up to two riders.
And then there's the addition of Night Goggles as mentioned above, along with the usual fixes, a re-work of the weather system, and more.

Pterodactyls may have gone extinct millions of years ago, but a newly designed spy plane could bring the flying reptiles to life, albeit replacing blood and guts with carbon fiber and batteries.
"The next generation of airborne drones won't just be small and silent," the design team announced recently. "They'll alter their wing shapes using morphing techniques to squeeze through confined spaces, dive between buildings, zoom under overpasses, land on apartment balconies, or sail along the coastline."
Called Pterodrone, the spy plane is about the size of a crow but with a much larger wingspan that reaches nearly 32 inches (80 cm).
Its design will be inspired by one of the savviest movers of the Cretaceous, a pterosaur called Tapejara wellnhoferi. This ancient reptile was a morphing machine. On land, Tapejara walked on four legs before rearing up on its two back limbs and running to reach takeoff speed. Once airborne, the beast could cruise at some 19 mph (30 km/h), according to the researchers.
Then, to snap up fish food, the reptile would bend the tips of its wings up to form a three-mast sailboat structure with its body. The membranous crest atop its head would have served as the third sail, used as a rudder for steering, said Sankar Chatterjee, a paleontologist of Texas Tech University who is working on the bio-inspired craft.
Similarly, the Pterodrone will sport morphing wings and a head crest made of carbon fiber and nylon for such multimodal locomotion.
"The crest is analogous to a vertical tail on an aircraft. However, a vertical tail is actually destabilizing if it is placed on the nose instead of the rear, said design team member Rick Lind, a mechanical and aerospace engineer at the University of Florida. "We are investigating the tradeoff such that the crest provides better turn performance and sensor pointing but also requires the wings to compensate and provide stability."
Get the world’s most fascinating discoveries delivered straight to your inbox.
While the real deal had blood vessels and nerves that served as sensors for temperature, pressure and wind direction, the Pterodrone will be equipped with gyroscopes and a GPS.
"We are trying to build a vehicle that can mimic the motion of the pterosaur, but we are not trying to mimic its nerve/sensory system," Lind told LiveScience.
Pterodrone is in the design phases right now, but its designers hope to complete a walking, flying and sailing prototype in the near future, depending on funding.
The reptile-inspired concept will be detailed in a presentation this week in Houston at a joint meeting of the Geological Society of America, Soil Science Society of America-American Society of Agronomy-Crop Science Society of America, and Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies.

ARK: Survival Evolved finally has a new prehistoric dino called the Tropeognathus
we outline a few spots where this creature spawns
tell you how to tame it and illustrate the best reasons to have one in your tribe
it should be noted that players will need to be at at least level 65 if they'd like to take full advantage of everything the Tropeognathus has to offer
If you're still searching for a Tropeognathus spawn
as this creature seems to be pretty difficult to find on all the maps it's available
On PC the Tropeognathus is currently exclusive to the new Crystal Isles mod map
but console players can locate one on all maps that support flyers
PC spawn locations: As noted in its official dossier
the Tropeognathus is found on the coastal areas of Crystal Isles
here are a couple estimated coordinates that might point you in the right direction
a Tropeognathus should show up on Crystal Isles
Console Spawn Locations: Despite appearing on more maps on console, the Tropeognathus can still be hard to find. The coastal tip from the dossier still applies, but it might also help to know that the Tropeognathus appears to spawn in the exact same locations as the Tapejara. So, looking at the Tapejara spawn maps on the ARK wiki may be helpful for those who need a detailed visual
It's also worth noting that you may need to kill nearby Tapejaras to make the Tropeognathus appear
The Tropeognathus is a very rare spawn in general
so don't get frustrated if you don't find one immediately
Once you've got a Tropeognathus in your sights
the best way to tame it is to use a Ballista Turret with Chain Bolas to take it down
The Spear Bolt may also be a viable option at level 29
but you'll need more of them to finish the job
All you've got to do is hit a Tropeognathus with your turret a couple times
walk over to it and start feeding it Raw Prime Meat
Raw Mutton or Exceptional Kibble depending on what's in your inventory
Especially if you're playing during the Anniversary Event
that offers fireable grenades and a gas-powered jet engine
the saddle is not a requirement for riding it without those trappings
On its own the Tropeognathus is fairly average with decent speed and a basic bite attack
and your basic propulsion is just a button press away
There's also an option for faster speeds that consume more gas as well
It's able to do quick aerial turns while in standard mode to offer improved maneuvers
just place them in the saddle's inventory and fire away
If you see the phrase "drafting available" in the corner of your screen
that means the Tropeognathus is in range to get a boost from nearby flyers
you get some extra speed that doesn't consume resources
If you'd just like to mess around with the Tropeognathus without the hassle
it's possible to enable admin command cheats to both spawn and tame it
Press the following buttons to open the admin command menu:
you may need to type the "enablecheats" command if not done already
That's all you need to know about the Tropeognathus in ARK: Survival Evolved
What do you think of the Tropeognathus so far

MenuEntertainmentThe 6 Coolest Dinosaurs That Aren’t in the ‘Jurassic Park’ FilmsForget the T-Rex and velociraptors
these dinos deserve their moment in the spotlight
These ostrich-like dinosaurs roamed the earth over 70 million years ago but were only discovered by scientists in the last decade
they have become a favorite among the dino-loving community
Because the Deinocheirus was an absolutely massive dinosaur
They were 33-feet long – including eight-foot long arms – and weighed an estimated 1,200 pounds
They may not look as frightening as a Velociraptor but who wouldn’t love to see a pack of Deinocheirus’ wreaking some havoc in the Twenty-First Century
Don’t let the boring name fool you, the Palaeophis is a badass marine snake that scientists believe could have been up to nearly 30 feet long (Urban legend used to claim that these dinos could be over 100 feet long
how is it possible that there have been five Jurassic movies and not one of them have featured a scene of one of these impossibly massive snakes chowing down on an unsuspecting scuba diver
This needs to be fixed as quickly as possible
Psittacosauruses might not be the scariest dinosaurs on the list but they are likely the most well-known, at least in the paleontology community. These creatures, which are believed to be ancestors of triceratops
are one of the oldest dino species ever discovered and they have been researched extensively by scientists
Throwing these guys on screen would be a fun nod to true dino die-hards and it doesn’t hurt that
If the insane photo above isn’t enough to convince you that these dino bats need to be on the big screen as quickly as possible, allow us the opportunity to present a few more facts to officially get you onboard. They were tiny (their wingspan is estimated to be about 14 inches long) but vicious hunters
as scientists believed that they used their small size and advanced vision to stay out of sight until it was too late for their prey
Gigantoraptor is inarguably the coolest name in the dino universe but are the actual creatures themselves as cool as their name? The answer is a resounding yes, as their name gives a pretty perfect description of these large and terrifying dinos
Gigantoraptors are pretty much like Raptors except for the fact that they’re
while a tall Velociraptor could grow up to seven feet tall
They were believed to have been less intelligent than their smaller counterparts but made up for it with sheer size
In case you still aren’t convinced, just read this quote from Mark Norell, a paleontologist of the American Museum of Natural History in New York, who said
“I was just flabbergasted when I saw it [a Gigantoraptor] because it was so big.”

ARK Survival Ascended is Studio Wildcard's latest title in the series
where taming animals take center stage among other core systems like crafting and gathering
The latter two are a staple in the survival-craft genre
while the former is unique to the ARK series
enticing you to explore different facets of the gameplay for optimal progression
where each creature requires a different method and feed to tame them
Locating a particular animal on the vast Island can also be arduous
Here's how you can tame this incredible flying mount in ARK Survival Ascended
Tapejara are flyers in ARK Survival Ascended
found around cliffs and the Redwood forest
These creatures have a skittish temperament and will flee at any sign of danger
In appearance, the Tapejara can be mistaken for a Pteranodon, another tameable flyer
allowing it to carry two additional passengers along with the rider
making it an exceptional war mount in group PvP
You can find a Tapejara around the Island, especially in high-altitude areas. However, it prefers a temperate climate and won't venture into the Snow biome. If you can't find one, remember that you can use console commands to reset its spawn when you are the host or playing in single-player mode
A flying mount like the Tapejara can carry other creatures
Transportation of other animals is necessary for harvesting and carrying resources
as they provide benefits like greater yield per action and reduced weight of the desired resource
Here are the creatures that a Tapejara can carry in ARK Survival Ascended:
This concludes our guide to taming Tapejara in ARK Survival Ascended

Tapejara is one of the more complex tames in Ark Survival Ascended
This beast is small and can carry small dinosaurs and players but is slightly slower than other dinosaurs in the game
The best thing about Tapejara is that it can stick to walls
which makes traveling through rough terrain easy
The saddle on its back has enough space for two players
making activities that need team participation easier
Tapejara also offers extreme maneuvering and is an agile flyer. It can be tamed by beginners in the game's earlier stages for traveling and exploration

ARK Survival Ascended is the latest installment in the survival-craft genre that allows you to tame a diverse range of prehistoric creatures
remastered from its predecessor — ARK Survival Evolved
where taming creatures like Giant Bee can aid you tremendously in surviving the harsh conditions of your environment
taming the Giant Bee in ARK Survival Ascended is one of the most frustrating and difficult tasks
as it requires significant effort and planning
you can simplify this process and get access to an abundance of honey
A cluster of an Apis Queen and its drones is collectively known as the Giant Bee in ARK Survival Ascended
The Queen is generally at the center of this entity
This entity is territorial and will attack anyone if their beehive is destroyed
Taming it is essentially taming just the Apis Queen
The Apis Queen requires a non-violent taming method, which necessitates a Ghillie Suit, Bug Repellant, a tamed Tapejara
and a preferred food item that can complete the taming process
The complexity of this process arises from the amount of setup necessary just to be able to feed this Queen Bee
Use one of the following food items to tame an Apis Queen in ARK Survival Ascended:
Simple Kibble is the optimal food item to tame an Apis Queen
These food items require the lowest taming duration and quantity for this process
