Forward Ella Stevens returned to Gotham FC’s starting lineup to face her former team, the Chicago Stars, this afternoon at Sports Illustrated Stadium. Stevens, who is making her fifth start of the season, represents one of two changes to coach Juan Carlos Amóros’s lineup following last Saturday’s 3-0 win at Washington, with Taryn Torres also joining the midfield. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET in Harrison, New Jersey, with CBS carrying the national broadcast. Stevens, 27, has an assist this season, a cross headed in by the league’s leading scorer, Esther González, in the 3-1 win over North Carolina. Last year, the Georgia native scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over Chicago, heading in the finish in the 90th minute. The 26-year-old Torres will start for the fourth time this season and 14th in her NWSL career, all with Gotham FC, the team that selected her in the 2021 NWSL Draft. She has registered 263 minutes through her first five appearances, including 90 in the resounding victory at Angel City. With Stevens and Torres moving into the starting lineup, Nealy Martin moves to defense. The versatile Martin, who will wear the captain’s arm band, is making her seventh start and eighth appearance this season. Stevens steps in for the injured Gabi Portilho, who is out with a hip ailment. Brazilian star Geyse pairs with González and Stevens across Gotham FC’s front line. It will be her second consecutive start – and fifth appearance – since joining the club via loan from Manchester United. The 27-year-old has been a menace on the flanks, scoring a goal and being involved in a handful of other goal-creating moments. González, the NWSL Player of the Month for April, is on a goal-scoring tear, with seven scores in four matches thanks to three braces (two goals in a match). The NWSL MVP candidate has finished in a variety of ways – with her head, off set pieces, in the run of play and from a penalty. Jaelin Howell and Sarah Schupansky, who have both started every game this season, once again line up together in the midfield with Torres. Howell has played every minute, while Schupansky scored her first professional goal last week in Washington (and added an assist). Emily Sonnett and Lilly Reale, two NWSL Best XI of the Month for April selections, will anchor the defensive corps with Martin and Brazilian fullback Bruninha, who is set for her fourth start. Reigning NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year Ann-Katrin Berger takes up her usual spot between the posts, aiming for her fourth shutout of the campaign. In welcome news, goalkeeper Ryan Campbell, defender Mandy Freeman and midfielder Sofia Cook – all previously injured and out – are available and on Gotham’s substitutes bench. Forward Midge Purce is also in the subs group after making her Broadway debut this past week. Goalkeeper Michelle Betos; defender Emerson Elgin; midfielder Stella Nyamekye; and forwards Khyah Harper and Mak Whitham round out the Gotham FC substitutes list. Goalkeeper Shelby Hogan; defenders Jess Carter and Tierna Davidson; midfielder Rose Lavelle; and forwards Portilho and Jéssica Silva were previously listed as out for today’s match via the NWSL availability report. Substitutes: 12 – Ryan Campbell (GK), 33 – Michelle Betos (GK); 17 – Mak Whitham, 21 – Sofia Cook, 22 – Mandy Freeman, 23 – Midge Purce, 24 – Emerson Elgin, 34 – Khyah Harper, 90 – Stella Nyamekye The New York congressman sparred with Mayor Eric Adams who said he had no authority to cancel the performance Kehlani at the Fashion Trust U.S Awards 2025 held at The Lot at Formosa on April 08 Rep. “DISMANTLE ISRAEL ERADICATE ZIONISM,” and calling Zionists “the scum of the Earth.” The performer has also reposted content expressing support for “resistance in all of its forms,” describing Zionists as “evil,” saying that “no one should feel comfortable or safe until Zionism is extinguished” and characterizing all Israelis as settlers “There is only one solution Intifada revolution” and “Long “Our public institutions have a duty to ensure that taxpayer dollars are never misspent on subsidizing or sanitizing antisemitism — especially under the banner of a Pride Event.” adding “her rhetoric flatly contradicts the spirit of Pride Month which is and must remain a celebration of love and inclusion — not hate and exclusion.” Torres has also traded messages with Adams about the event on X.  Adams said that the Parks Department “does not select and does not fund the City Parks Foundation at all” and that the only city funding it receives is allocated by city council members not by the mayor or divisions under his supervision “Your letter should be addressed to Speaker Adams and her councilmembers who have control over their own discretionary funding,” Adams wrote “Our administration will not fund organizations that promote antisemitism or any other form of hate.” Torres himself allocated funding for the City Parks Foundation.  “The City Charter grants the Mayor the authority to impound city funds You unquestionably have the power to withhold city funding from any organization or event that provides a platform for antisemitism,” adding “I find it hard to believe that the most powerful elected official in New York City is powerless to act on a city matter involving city funds.” The Parks Department, which falls under the mayor’s supervision, also has a contract with the City Parks Foundation to permit festival operations in Central Park Torres said he also planned to reach out to Capitol One Copyright © 2025 · All Rights Reserved · Jewish Insider Race Walking Tour Gold meeting – on Sunday (4) A third 2025 duel between Paula Torres and Kimberly Garcia produced a hat-trick of wins for the Ecuadorean - but this time by just one second the result was in doubt until the last 50 metres when Torres squeezed out all she could to break the tape just ahead of the two-time world champion Garcia kept striving to make the all-important gap Even when both shrugged off the challenge from Viviane Lyra with 3km to go there was never more than a stride between them until the finish recorded by Torres in 1:28:29 with Garcia only a couple of strides behind but for a long time she more than held her own against the other two with a blue kinaesthetic strip protecting her right quad and right arm augmented by Ecuador’s Magaly Bonilla followed a few metres back by double world silver medallist Katarzyna Zdzieblo The initial pace was moderate for a quartet with PBs all comfortably under 1:30:00 but by 3km Zdzieblo was already a distant fourth with the rest of the small field fighting for the minor places A small increase in tempo was too much for Bonilla Torres carved the smallest of gaps just past 6km but the other two quickly closed the gap with all of them detouring past standing puddles left by overnight rain A 31:18 clocking at 7km was significantly faster and this time Lyra and Garcia were the pair forcing the pace It was 44:40 at halfway to underline a race getting serious a fading Bonilla provided a welcome target for Zdzieblo at 14km The Pole passed the Ecuadorean to take fourth albeit more than a minute behind the leading three which proved too much for Lyra despite having race walked faster than the other two this year while Torres and Garcia upped the gears to the finish and it stayed that way over the final scintillating lap with Torres taking victory in 1:28:29 to Garcia’s 1:28:30 the men’s race was a comfortable stroll for Toshikazu Yamanishi in 1:20:48 the result was done and dusted very soon after 5km the new world record-holder put the hammer down and all but disappeared into the distance but the Japanese lead increased from there to the finish – albeit slowly and Yamanishi’s teammate Kazuki Takahashi was more than two minutes back in distant third having covered the rest of the race solo from that 5km split A bonus for race organiser and race walking great Robert Korzeniowski was greeting Maher Ben Hlima in fourth place fresh off a Polish record of 2:27:51 over 35km in Dudince in March and although the pace wasn’t blazing fast Koga was a casualty just after 3km and quickly went backwards Takahashi detached almost immediately; Bonfim gave chase and just about held the initial gap to about 15 metres the second group had absorbed Koga with fourth place now up for grabs the world record-holder was away and comfortably gone A glance across as he rounded one of the two 180-degree turns told him all he needed to know as early as 8km Bonfim wasn’t going down with a fight The lead was indeed extending metre by metre but it was still only 11 seconds at 11km Takahashi was isolated in third 1:04 further back and Ben Hlima was 1:44 behind towing Germany’s Nathaniel Seiler and Harun Bilir (Turkiye) which left the Pole and the German a free ride to fourth and fifth places The metronomic leader hit his watch at 15km (1:00:22) 21 seconds in front of Bonfim and 1:36 ahead of Takahashi Ben Hlima was forging a gap over Seiler – and that final move decided the first five places Women1 Paula Torres (ECU) 1:28:292 Kimberly Garcia (PER) 1:28:303 Viviane Lyra (BRA) 1:28:544 A handful of those dates went ahead as planned, but on Sunday (May 4), Baker posted a statement on her Instagram confirming that the rest of the tour has been called off in order to prioritise her well-being. “Due to recent events, Julien Baker is prioritizing her well-being and taking time to focus on her health,” she wrote. “Therefore, the Julien Baker & TORRES ‘Send A Prayer My Way’ Tour has been canceled. before halftime with goals by Cal Jennings (24′) and Juan David Torres (38′) Charleston added two more via Houssou Landry (56′) and Torres (64′) to secure their fourth consecutive league win A pass back to goalkeeper Christian Garner resulted in the ball crossing the byline and granting Hartford a corner kick The visitors converted the ensuing corner kick via Jordan Scarlett to take a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute Charleston battled back despite the early deficit and pressed for an equalizer That pressure led to the first golden opportunity midway through the half when MD Myers was taken down in the box by Scarlett in the 22nd minute Cal Jennings stepped up to take the corner and buried it to the right side after sending goalkeeper Antony Siaha the other way leveling the score at 1-1 in the 24th minute It was also the seventh first-half goal scored by the Battery so far this season Charleston’s command on the game began to grow as the team peppered shots at Hartford through the half-hour mark Emilio Ycaza and Jennings drew blocked shots and the visitors were held without a shot since their opener for the rest of the half Torres produced a moment of magic to give the Battery a 2-1 lead in the 38th minute scoring from outside the box with a laser to the near post that Siaha could only watch go into his net Arturo Rodriguez found Torres with a switch and the Colombian was given a wealth of space by Hartford to tee up his shot The goal was Torres’ second of the year and the assist was Rodriguez’s first Charleston effectively erased Hartford’s quick start by taking the 2-1 lead into halftime The Battery outshot Hartford 10 to two and held 70% possession in the first stanza Play resumed for the second half with the Battery beaming with confidence in search of a third goal quickly advancing forward into Hartford’s defensive third Houssou Landry was the man of the moment who added to the Battery’s lead in the 56th minute to make the score 3-1 The play was created by Torres at the top of the box who patiently waited for Houssou to make a run toward goal before chipping the ball over the top to the Ivorian Houssou then gathered the ball and delivered a strike from the edge of the six-yard box into the goal The goal and assist were Houssou’s first and Torres’ fourth were gifted a way back into the game in the 61st minute when Emilio Ycaza was called for a foul on Sebastian Anderson in the box Michee Ngalina converted from the spot a minute later Despite Hartford’s apparent bid for a comeback the Battery swung momentum back in their favor by putting the visitors on the ropes immediately Jennings nearly struck again in the 63rd minute but his attempt was saved and went out for a corner kick Torres took the ensuing corner kick and uncorked a world-class delivery for the Olimpico goal in the 64th minute while hitting Adrián Diz as it was already crossing the line As the match wore on after the Battery made the score 4-2 Charleston began to tighten their grip to secure the win Hartford would not record another shot on target again until the 89th minute a strike by Deshane Beckford that was saved by Garner making his first appearance at Patriots Point nearly scored the Battery’s fifth in the 73rd minute with a strong shot that Siaha saved Defender Joey Akpunonu asserted his presence in the final stages of the match making strong interventions in the 76th and 87th minutes to deny his former club a way back into the match Charleston secured the 4-2 victory over Hartford to kick off the new month The win was the Battery’s fourth with four clearances Cal Jennings is now tied for the league’s Golden Boot race with six goals forward Cal Jennings and midfielder Juan David Torres addressed the media after the match Coach Pirmann on his overall thoughts about the win… whether it was central areas or overloads in the wide spots Excellent by Cal and MD to draw the penalty a great goal going from Arturo to Juan David Aaron and Houssou at new positions in tough spots in the back line when they’re going and they’re pushing and pressing and working we’re tough to play against and that can turn some things over and go in our direction I give a lot of credit to Douglas Martinez eight different positions in the last eight or nine days Coach Pirmann on the importance of the fans’ support at home… We’ve had a tremendous record over the last year and a half in this stadium and it’s because of that we roll with them Even if things go badly or a guy can’t play or whatever it is these fans push us and that’s what it’s all about Jennings on the team’s ability to come back for the win… But I felt like we responded great and realized that we can get right back in it.’ And we did just that And MD did a great job getting on the end of it and drawing [the penalty] A guy like Houssou getting a goal is a fantastic reward winning balls and he does so much beating the press Torres on his performance against Tickets for the game are on sale now via SeatGeek.com the club’s exclusive digital ticketing provider Julien Baker has cancelled her tour with Torres Boygenius star Julien Baker has cancelled the remainder of her joint tour with fellow indie rocker TORRES in order to “focus on her health” A statement posted on Baker’s Instagram page yesterday (4 May) confirmed that the remainder of the Send A Prayer My Way Tour will no longer go ahead “Due to recent events, Julien Baker is prioritizing her well-being and taking time to focus on her health the Julien Baker & TORRES ‘Send A Prayer My Way’ Tour has been canceled,” the post reads Refunds and ticketing information will be provided by the original point of purchase.” Baker’s announcement rounds off by thanking her fans for their “continued support and compassion” Baker and TORRES were meant to perform at the Stable Hall in San Antonio last night but the show was pulled several hours before it was scheduled to go ahead when they performed to a sold-out crowd at Tipitina’s in New Orleans The queer music duo released their debut collaborative country project Send a Prayer My Way on 18 April with the corresponding US tour kicking off in Richmond on 23 April While the statement didn’t expand on the “recent events” which led to the tour cancellation the news comes weeks after the pair were forced to pull out of two shows in March due to an unnamed band member suffering concussion Baker and TORRES were set to perform and speak at Ohio University and at Knoxville’s Big Ears Festival A statement published on Instagram at the time read: “Over the weekend one of our key members sustained a concussion and will need to take the next few weeks to recover Due to this we are forced to cancel the Julien Baker & TORRES’ appearance at Ohio University.” According to Baker’s website she and TORRES will resume playing live with a string of festival dates this summer beginning on 20 June at the Green River Festival in Greenfield Julien Baker is one third of Grammy Award-winning indie super group Boygenius, alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Baker’s recently confirmed partner, Lucy Dacus.Share your thoughts and remember to keep the conversation respectful About us Contact us Advertise Work for us Terms and conditions Privacy policy Puerto RicoHigh School:Rock Ridge HSDeals: BioStatsMediaBioBioStatsMedia2023 (Sophomore at Creighton) • Daughter of Jessica Richardson and Jesus Torres • Majoring in international relations - Ileana Garcia, R-Miami-Dade, and HB 81 from Reps Jim Mooney R-Lighthouse Point ― would have dethroned the mockingbird from its perch and designated the American flamingo as our state bird and designated the Florida scrub jay as our state songbird This is the eighth time someone has filed a bill trying to replace the mockingbird as state bird I hope one of our legislators files something to prevent the bird from ever being replaced Harper Lee explained why mockingbirds were so special in her iconic novel we all read in high school, To Kill a Mockingbird "Mockingbirds don’t do one thing except make music for us to enjoy they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” It would be a sin to replace them as our state bird too Contact Torres at jtorres@floridatoday.com. Scott from Macon Georgia—and were raised in ultrareligious households Both also identify as members of the LGBTQ community and grew up struggling with their identities Baker absorbed a lot of Merle Haggard and George Jones while visiting her mother’s family in East Tennessee it was church music and the nineties country she heard in her brother’s and sister’s cars with a few “secular” CDs allowed as she got older “I recognize in Julien that thing that I have which is always sort of trying to carve out a different way of doing things,” Scott says “Not just being queer sexually but queer in the larger sense of just being at odds with the environments that we were in.” There aren’t any honky-tonk rave-ups on Send a Prayer My Way Baker’s vocals on “Dirt” wrestle with addiction—she has been open about her own battle with substance abuse “Spend your whole life getting clean / Just to wind up in the dirt,” she sings Scott numbs her loneliness at the corner bar in the heart-tugging “Bottom of a Bottle,” as the pair’s harmonies flutter angelically overhead In the folky twang of “Tuesday,” one of the album’s centerpieces Scott laments the dissolution of a potential relationship because the other woman’s mother disapproved It’s a song she had attempted to write for years it came out as stupid young person stuff,” she says “But finally getting it out made me feel much better like I never [have to] think about that experience anymore.” Baker and Scott hadn’t spent much time together in person prior to the recording sessions in Marfa they sensed something special was happening Baker plays various string parts on “Tuesday,” layering them over Scott’s loneliness “I put a freaky Dobro part over the song while she’s baring her soul in one of the most difficult experiences that has ever happened to her,” Baker says it was a big step for them to become vulnerable with each other given that they’re both admittedly guarded their conservative upbringings and shared struggles came to the fore and turned into the bones of the album with a follow-up stint in Brooklyn because Baker would often take the sound files and add a banjo solo on a track like the dreamy “Downhill Both Ways.” But the words didn’t need much polishing “We had to ensure that the lyrics were bulletproof,” Scott says In the five years since Sierra Hull’s last album the mandolin wiz joined Sturgill Simpson’s bluegrass band and collaborated with Béla Fleck That experience shows on A Tip Toe High Wire where her songwriting rises to meet her musicianship but on highlights like “Spitfire” and the funky opener “Boom,” she lets the soaring melodies and introspective lyrics take center stage Matt Hendrickson has been a contributing editor for Garden & Gun since 2008 he’s also written for Fast Company and the New York Times and currently moonlights as a content producer for Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service in Athens The superstar talks with G&G about the inspiration behind his arresting new album and why he’s never afraid to explore fresh territory Twelve years after suffering a devastating stroke the legendary country musician is back on tour to discuss making music with the help of AI and the healing power of horses her forthcoming Biscuits & Banjos Festival The future of conservation in the South just got a little bit brighter—and not just for salamanders but they’re the craftsmanship of local crustaceans called lawn lobsters The drawls are receiving a lot of flak across the internet but a North Carolina linguist argues they’re actually pretty accurate The comedian and absurdist on his favourite letters and colours and least favourite shapes I thought Shawn Mendes was an intern’The comedian and absurdist on his favourite letters and colours and least favourite shapes There’s a rigidity to it that I find displacing What’s the oldest thing you own and why do you still have it I was just going into what I refer to as the forbidden closet in my apartment And I saw in there a picture of the inside of a church that my mother took when she was in college There is something eerie and mysterious and evocative about the photo I like thinking of her as a young creative What’s the strangest thing you have in your fridge right now strange patterns that mould creates over takeout What is your most controversial pop culture opinion I am a big fan of the film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, starring Cara Delevingne, Dane DeHaan and Rihanna. It’s a Luc Besson movie. It is apparently France’s most expensive film and it was not well received It sort of came and went but I really liked it Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Photograph: Moviestore/Rex/ShutterstockWhat is your most cringeworthy run-in with a celebrity [This happened] when I worked at Saturday Night Live no one was harmed – but I did think that Shawn Mendes was an intern what is this intern doing just like strolling the halls I just looked at him and hesitated a little bit I think I was confused by his very confident presence these NYU kids just think they own the place [I only realised] when I saw him through the monitors rehearsing his musical performance What has been your biggest fashion crime to date The brief period in my life where I wanted to wear what everyone else was wearing What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten I’m vegan and I am not adventurous with food so I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything that exciting in my life I never strayed away from the four main kinds of meat that most people eat That’s the weirdest thing I’ve never eaten I like Ss and I like Vs and I like Zs and I like Ys and I like Is. I like Qs. I don’t like Ps, which it’s strange because my first and only movie so far [Problemista] has a title with a P It’s basic and in a way that’s not even like comforting It’s not like the letter A – that’s also basic They seem very happy to be there and apologetic If you could remove one colour from the rainbow But if I could add one colour to the rainbow Julio Torres performs his show Color Theories at Melbourne international comedy festival from 15 to 20 April He came out of the gate hot as a rookie and was never too short on slug Gleyber Torres and the New York Yankees fan base developed a relationship full of complications and frustration across seven years together Those negative feelings reached a fever pitch in 2024 when Torres bluntly refused to switch to third base and forced Jazz Chisholm Jr That was probably for the best — Chisholm is a much better defender — but Torres did not always express the team-first goal-oriented ideals more traditional baseball fans espouse When it came time to test the free agent market, Torres' departure was practically a foregone conclusion.
