The 39-year-old businessman had initially planned to scare the teen but lost his cool after a brief conversation
Footage showed the raging dad confronting his daughter's boyfriend at a mobile phone accessory store
threatening him and pushing a counter into the teen
The frightened teen managed to escape the confrontation and ran down the street with the crazed father close behind him
Security video captured the moment the dad fired a shot into the air
The man's lawyer, Luiz Augusto Cardoso Batista, told Brazilian media outlet G1 that the businessman acted for his daughter's honour
He also claimed that the boy was controlling the girl and putting psychological pressure on her.
He said: "The father went to talk to him and lost his head."
The father also gave the same version of events to the police.
The shooting incident happened in Vianópolis, a municipality in Goiás, Brazil
The businessman was arrested on suspicion of shooting the weapon in the air after he was found 49 miles away in the town of Anapólis
The Military Police reported that he was taken to the police station
and the case was registered by the Civil Police
he presented an air gun but it was later revealed that he had purchased the air gun after chasing the teen in an attempt to deceive the police
Police found a .22 calibre revolver inside the car
The father confessed to the police that he used the gun in the crime
Police said the 16-year-old boy was not shot

The shocking incident took place on a motorway in Boituva near São Paulo, Brazil
identified as businessman Adriano Domingues da Costa
named as Gabrielle Gimenez and William Isidoro
followed the suspect along the motorway until he slammed on his brakes and confronted them face-to-face
The clip shows Domingues da Costa approaching their vehicle with what appears to be the weapon concealed behind his back
he appears to fire five shots before getting back in his SUV and driving off
