an attorney representing the family of Donta Taylor
a Black man who sheriff’s deputies shot and killed in 2016
is arguing in a wrongful death claim that the “identities of the group’s members among the 163 deputies at the Compton station … be known.”
He said as many as 20 other deputies at the Compton station have the same tattoo.”
Of course, this behavior is not unique. PBS reports:
As far back as 1999, the LA Times reported on the proliferation of white supremacists with gangs within the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department
so this song and dance about “investigations” to determination the veracity of claims against them is almost insulting

While fans were likely disappointed by the exclusion
it didn’t completely dismiss the possibility that Newt and the gang would visit South America
Last week, Brazilian soap opera actress Maria Fernanda Cândido announced on her Instagram that she would be playing a character named Vicência Santos in Secrets of Dumbledore
Cândido didn’t provide any additional details regarding her character
Aside from landing a huge acting opportunity
it seems she was most excited about “representing Brazil” in the Wizarding World
A post shared by Maria Fernanda Cândido (@mariafernandacandidooficial)
Aside from the addition of another lovely actor to the Fantastic Beasts franchise
we can formulate two theories regarding whether or not Brazil will be featured in Secrets of Dumbledore
The most desired outcome is that our heroes do in fact travel to Rio de Janeiro and meet up with Vicência Santos
but that would still likely be a valid story direction
is that Cândido’s Vicência Santos will be the one to rendezvous at any of the confirmed destinations acting as a Brazilian presence
perhaps even literally as the Brazilian delegate to the International Confederation of Wizards
It would make sense for the organization to convene to discuss Grindelwald’s proclamation of war with Muggles
it’ll be both and the International Confederation will meet in Rio de Janeiro
the highest hope is the chance to see Castelobruxo
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore hits theaters on April 15
Do you believe that Cândido’s casting means that we will be visiting Brazil in Secrets of Dumbledore

A superior court judge has ordered Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials to reveal whether it knows the names
deputies with matching skull tattoos believed to be linked to a secret society at its Compton station
The allegations are currently at the center of a wrongful death suit filed by the family of Donta Taylor, a Black man fatally shot by deputies back in 2016, The Los Angeles Times reported. An attorney for the family argues the shooting was carried out by members of a racist deputy clique that targeted the county’s African-American residents

Members of the alleged group are thought to have matching ink featuring a skull with a rifle and military-style helmet with flames all around it
Vicencia last month stopped just short of ordering the department to force its deputies to bare their skin
proving they don’t have the infamous tattoo
he left open the possibility that deputies might be forced to answer a few questions about the tattoos they do have
“I’m not saying you shouldn’t get the information,” Vicencia told Taylor family attorney John Sweeney at the hearing in Long Beach on Oct
Rumblings of a police secret society first emerged 30 years ago after an L.A
judge accused deputies at the Lynwood station of running a “neo-Nazi
white supremacist gang” called the Vikings
city leaders feared a new clique of deputies who bonded over their violent
police work had formed at the department’s Compton station
One of the deputies involved in Taylor’s shooting
admitted in a deposition earlier this year to having the skull tattooed on his calf
Aldama said there are as many as 20 other officers in the Compton station branded with the same ink
wasn’t thrilled about the idea of questioning deputies about their tattoos
arguing it was “inappropriate” and an invasion of privacy
He told Vicencia last month that the county hasn’t conducted any surveys about which deputies have the matching tattoos
We never sent an email asking for that,” Parker said
“There was never a broad inquiry by [Compton station] Capt
[Michael] Thatcher or anyone for deputies to reveal themselves.”
“I don’t believe for one second that they don’t know who has these tattoos,” he said
Vicencia told Sweeney he can file what’s called a Pitchess motion requesting access to an officer’s personnel file
The process would allow Compton station officers to object before any information about the tattoos is revealed
members of the department’s civilian oversight commission have since agreed to launch an ad hoc committee to address the issue of secret societies
