During the reconnaissance of equipment depots in Novoozerne village, agents of the Atesh partisan movement discovered occupiers' activity at a abandoned military facility
It is known that the military unit called Gorodok-7 remained deserted since the russian occupation of the Crimean peninsula
Ukrainian partisans managed to get the coordinates of the site: 45.3949607089
"Fearing strikes by the Defense Forces of Ukraine
Our agents recorded a significant number of camouflaged armored vehicles (armoured personnel carriers and KamAZ trucks) at the newly inhabited site," the statement reads
russians are also known to be dispersing equipment from a nearby warehouse throughout the site
The occupiers set up heated tents used by servicemen
"In an attempt to confuse Ukrainian forces
the occupiers have placed a large amount of old military equipment in places
the Defense Force of Ukraine will have relevant data," the Atesh stated
Earlier Defense Express reported that russian occupiers had trained African mercenaries and local teenagers at training ground in Crimea
When authorities decided in the 1920s to make Yekaterinburg the industrial powerhouse of the Urals
Several prominent architects were dispatched from Moscow and as constructivism was in vogue at the time
Yekaterinburg became the capital of the movement
Whole neighborhoods were razed to the ground and new ones were built from scratch; many of the neighborhoods were named after their residents’ professions: town of workers
called “gorodok chekistov,” with buildings 5-10 stories high
The most prominent of the buildings is the white horseshoe-shaped Iset hotel (Prospekt Lenina
only some parts of the building can be used
but there are plans for a complete restoration
After a contemporary art biennale took place there a few years ago
the Iset hotel became one of the new symbols of the city
Metenkov House is a small photography museum in a wooden mansion that once belonged to Veniamin Metenkov
one of the city’s first professional photographers
but there are always two or three temporary exhibitions on view
with everything from photos by Metenkov himself to cutting-edge contemporary art
Don’t miss the antique camera store on the first floor
Ulitsa Karla Libknekhta, 36 dommetenkova.ru
Since Yekaterinburg is unofficially “the capital of constructivism,” there are plenty of other architectural gems
Take an afternoon and just walk around to see what the city has to offer
Across the street from the Iset hotel is the City Center shopping mall
which used to combine the Construction Workers’ Club and Sverdlovsk Film Studio
Today the whole interior is made up of various stores
but you can still admire the stunning exterior (Prospekt Lenina
formerly the headquarters and printing house for several local newspapers; today it is the home of a night club
while the exterior sports the famous constructivist “ribbon” windows (Prospekt Lenina
Two other buildings worth checking out on Prospekt Lenina are the Central Post Office (#39)
where the first two floors are accessible to the public
the former home of the local Communist Party executive committee
Right across the City Pond from the Yeltsin Center is the sprawling Dynamo sports complex
built in the early 1930s (Ulitsa Vasilia Yeryomina
Dynamo includes both a sports club and a stadium and looks like a blue and white ship standing in the docks
Unit F (Yacheyka F) is a tiny museum that takes up just one apartment in a constructivist Gorpromural building designed by Moisei Ginzburg
the architect behind one of constructivism’s most iconic buildings — the Narkomfin building in Moscow
Gorpromural is the only place you can view Ginzburg’s ingenious two-story apartment designs
walk down the corridor occupied by local painters and even access the roof if you’re lucky
The Unit F museum is open all day on Saturdays and by arrangement the rest of the week
You can find plenty of background on Gorpromural construction
as well as stories of its original residents
many of whom were repressed during Stalin’s purges

Kamenniye Palatki (Stone Tents) on the outskirts of Yekaterinburg is the Ural region’s very own Stonehenge
Reachable by trams 13 and 15 (on Ulitsa Vysotskogo
these rock formations are located in a park that stretches all the way to Lake Shartash
The area around the lake is where the remains of the first prehistoric settlements were found
The jury’s still out on how much of Stone Tents was formed by nature and how much by human hands
There’s still debate even about the name — whether it refers to “tents” or the word polati
which means “bunk bed.” This is a popular picnic spot with locals and if the weather is good
spend a few hours wandering around the forest
It’s also a popular biking area and there are bike rental facilities — be sure to bring your passport
It’s a heavy machine production facility that takes up an entire district
constructivist ideas about communal housing and living were fully implemented
The symbol of Uralmash is the White Tower (Ulitsa Bakinskikh Komissarov
1) a long-legged water tower that looks like something out of “Star Wars.” Other interesting buildings include a combination factory-kitchen (a constructivist term for a self-sufficient cafeteria) and a cultural center (Bulvar Kultury
About half of the building was destroyed by a fire
with decorated columns and peeling burnt Sienna paint (Ulitsa Mashinostroitelei
All of these buildings are within walking distance of the Uralmash metro station

“Space and the technological marvels that surround it have an immeasurable resonance on our social and individual consciousness,” Martins says
“This is a topic that constantly draws us in
but which is perpetually out of reach.”
Seeing the spacesuit changing room brought on feelings of excitement and anxiety
“Excitement because since the age of 8 I had been obsessed with how spacesuits were stored
And anxiety because I knew I would have at most 20 minutes to photograph them and so wanted to make sure I did them justice.” Did he try a suit on
The photos can be seen at the Wapping Project Bankside in London until 29 May

Russia's Star City is so named not because it is home to movie stars or pop stars
the heroes of the Soviet and Russian space programs
Today Star City is a sort of space explorer's utopia
where cosmonauts of the past and present have lived with their families since Yuri Gagarin became the first human to visit space in 1961
Star City was highly guarded even by Soviet standards
the closed urban-type settlement is hidden in the woods some twenty miles northeast of Moscow
the need for a cosmonaut training center became evident and so Star City was born
And with the arrival of prospective cosmonauts and their families
the military facility became a legitimate city
and a couple of schools are all within the confines of Star City
The site even captured the imagination of sophisticated city-dwellers with rumors of its impressive selection of shops
the curtain of secrecy over Star City was lifted and the site was opened to the public
visitors could catch a glimpse of the tank where cosmonauts practice their space walks under water
or the gigantic centrifuge where the soon-to-be spacemen are swung around at dizzying speeds
experiencing forces eight times the force of gravity in the process
a handful of companies offer special tours of the facility and visitors can even jump into a mock-up space suit
or board a "zero-gravity" flight that simulates weightlessness through a parabolic trajectory
But for those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground
Star City also offers more down-to-earth activities
the cosmonaut simulation experience does not even require you to leave your seat at the planetarium
where you can learn to navigate using thousands of stars as your reference
the museum of space travel and exploration has an impressive collection of vintage spacesuits
capsules charred from reentering the atmosphere
which holds a book that is routinely signed by every crew before launch
And if you're fortunate enough to visit on the Fourth of July
you might experience Star City's celebration at the homes built for NASA personnel in the 1990s
Just look for the American-style tract houses among the sea of Khrushchev-era concrete buildings
Star City (Zvyozdny Gorodok) is located near Shchyolkovo
The nearest airport is Chkalovsky Airport and the nearest rail station is the Tsiolkovskaya stop off the Yaroslavl Railroad
This iconic Russian space museum sits on a landmark space production facility and houses the Vostok 1

The oldest serving astronaut of the United States
returned to Earth to celebrate his 70th birthday
after wrapping up a seven-month mission onboard the International Space Station (ISS)
The Soyuz MS-26 space capsule carrying Pettit along with his two Russian crewmates Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner made a parachute-assisted landing in Kazakhstan's steppe at 06:20 local time (01:20 GMT) on Sunday
As per the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
the astronauts returned after spending 220 days on board the ISS
After spending some time to adjust to gravity
who has now spent a total of 590 days in space in four missions
while Ovchinin and Vagner will head towards Russia's main space training base in Zvyozdniy Gorodok (Star City) near Moscow
The US space agency stated that Pettit was “doing well and in the range of what is expected for him following return to Earth.”
Pettit spent his time in space while conducting research about in-orbit metal 3D printing capabilities
exploring plant growth under varying water conditions
and investigating fire behaviour in microgravity
although Pettit is the oldest serving NASA astronaut
he is not the oldest person to fly in orbit
who flew on a NASA mission at the age of 77 in 1998

The space agency announced on March 25 that its plans had changed, “in part” due to a shortage of outerwear. “Koch had been scheduled to conduct this spacewalk with astronaut McClain, in what would have been the first all-female spacewalk,” the space agency said in a statement
after consulting with McClain and Hague following the first spacewalk
mission managers decided to adjust the assignments
due in part to spacesuit availability on the station.”

McClain took part in a spacewalk last week
“McClain learned during her first spacewalk that a medium-size hard upper torso – essentially the shirt of the spacesuit – fits her best,” the agency said
“Because only one medium-size torso can be made ready by Friday

Koch will be the 14th woman to take part in a spacewalk – with her male colleague Nick Hague
McClain is now “tentatively scheduled” to perform her next one on April 8
The first woman to complete a spacewalk was cosmonaut Svetlana Savitskaya in 1984
spacewalk teams have either been all-male or male-female
213 spacewalks have been carried out to test new equipment
both McClain and Koch were part of the 2013 NASA class that was 50 per cent female

Shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022
the country began to forcibly remove children from occupied territories
assimilating them into Russian life and creating barriers to reunification with their families
According to the Ukrainian project Children of War
The Belarusian Investigative Center (BIC), an investigative website run from outside the country, published on Monday an extensive report which names the officials involved
including members of the family of the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko
The investigation finds Belarus to be an accomplice to Russia in the children’s abductions and their subsequent indoctrination
in its first warrant in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine
the International Criminal Court (ICC) called for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s arrest on suspicion of unlawful deportation of children and unlawful transfer of people from the territory of Ukraine to the Russian Federation
The abduction of children from the occupied territories to Belarus is not even kept a secret
this activity is paid from the ‘Union State’ budget
from the state budgets of Russia and Belarus
29 million Russian roubles (at the time equating to nearly €500,000) were allocated from the Union budget for the “rendering of humanitarian assistance” in the occupied territories
Some of this money was allocated for the “care” of Ukrainian children in Belarus
The Kremlin calls the abduction of children “evacuation” and “rescue”
the official press paints a picture according to which the country’s authorities do their utmost so that orphan children would remember “their childhood the way it should be: calm
Reportedly abducted children have been sent to the Dubrava camp
owned by the giant fertiliser company Belaruskali
a Belarusian state-controlled media wrote an article about Dubrava and camps at the Ostroshitsky Gorodok sanitarium
the Zubrenok national children’s educational and health centre in the Minsk region
and the Golden Sands sanitarium in the Gomel Region
over 2,000 children from Ukraine arrived at those camps since September 2022
“It was possible to bring more than a thousand Ukrainian schoolchildren to Belarus in April-May of this year thanks to the instructions of Alexander Lukashenko,” Belarus Today highlighted
BIC obtained a letter signed by Dmitry Mezentsey
according to which the hosting of children from Ukraine takes place upon instructions of Putin and Lukashenko
Among the institutions involved are the state railroads and charitable foundations such as the Talai Fund owned by Paralympian Aliaksei Talai
It is under Talai’s leadership that Ukrainian children are reportedly entertained and ideologically indoctrinated in Belarus
“Having received the consent and support of the president
we began to work out the possibility of recreation for the children of Donbas in Belarus,” Talai said on the Belarusian state-owned news agency BelTA YouTube channel in June
children were taken to the Belarusian Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the security centre of the Ministry of Emergency Situations
Pro-government Belarusian media reported that servicemen organised an exhibition of weapons for the Ukrainian children and held for them masterclasses in shooting with military unit 3214
The same unit is known for violent crackdowns on protesters in March 2006 and August 2020
led by former unit commander Dzmitry Paulichenka
Concerts were also held for children from the occupied Ukrainian territories
They were reportedly hosted by pro-government artists such as the Gruzdev sisters
they called the children “chosen ones” and “lucky ones”
They also made this statement: “Hope Biden dies
And may Putin thrive and take control of all of Ukraine”
Some children from Ukraine were taught to play hockey by former star Dzmitry Baskau
Another group was sent to watch a match with in which Lukashenko himself was the star hockey player
Members of the Lukashenko family are involved in organising events for children who were brought to Belarus through Rostov-on-Don
an activist with the pro-government association Patriots of Belarus
sister of the president’s son Dzmitry Lukashenko’s wife Anna
Dzmitry Lukashenko is also involved in the indoctrination of Ukrainian children in Belarus
who runs an Instagram account under the name Olga Pidgaina
thanked him personally as well as everyone who “fills every day of the children’s stay with warmth and care”
One of the Talai Foundation posts says the arrival of children in Belarus was organised with the help of the Presidential Sports Club
and personally the chairman of the organisation
More names of officials involved in the abductions can be found in the original article by BIC

Just 15 miles (24km) northeast of Moscow lies Zzesdny Gorodok
which has been home to the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (GCTC) since the 1960s
Cosmonauts of the past and present have lived there with their families since Yuri Gagarin became the first human to visit space in 1961
Star City was born as the Soviet space program developed and the need for a cosmonaut training center became evident
and Training Centre’s personnel live in Star City with their families
and a museum of space travel and human exploration
the space training center was in the jurisdiction of the Soviet and then Russian military
the center became subordinated both to the Ministry of Defense and to the Roscosmos (Russian Federal Space Agency)
This double status remained in effect until October 1
when the center was re-organized and subordinated directly and solely to the Roscosmos
the status of the territory of Star City was changed from military to civil
and the territory itself was incorporated as a closed administrative-territorial formation of Zvyozdny Gorodok
as an inhabited locality with the status of a work settlement
A proposal to officially name the work settlement as Zvyozdny Gorodok was submitted to the federal government on October 29
but as of 2011 has not yet been officially approved
Visitors can put on a real 320 lbs (145kg) space suit and be lowered into a massive pool with submerged models of the Russian Space Station and Soyuz Spacecraft
Star City houses the world’s biggest centrifuge at 59 feet (17m) long and weighing 300 tons
though tourists are only allowed to experience a maximum 4G’s
which is exactly what astronauts experience during a shuttle launch
It also houses a number of other attractions
including; a simulation of the Russian Segment of the ISS (which serves
for training living in a confined space and for completing scientific and technical experiments)
the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (which serves for the training of cosmonauts/astronauts to work in outer space
Zero G Flight (takes you up to 20,000 feet (6000m) in a special airplane designed for astronaut training)
The Landing Wood Survival (teaches you to endure
in case your space capsule should miss its mark) and Simulator of the Mir Space Station
which successfully worked in space for more than 15 years
and a replica of Gagarin’s office are on display at the museum of space travel and exploration
There is also a statue of the “space dog” Laika
