A section of Danforth Avenue in the Birchcliffe-Cliffside area will be closed for the next week for GO service-related construction.
Metrolinx says Danforth Avenue will be closed between Eastwood and Warden avenues from midnight on Wednesday until 11:59 p.m. on Mar. 27 for “essential railway bridge work.”
The section of roadway will be fully closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Metrolinx is warning residents and commuters to plan for additional travel time.
Construction will take place 24 hours a day while the roadway is closed.
During the closure, “crews will install metal girders across the roadway between the bridge piers using a mobile crane.”
The girders are meant to support a wider bridge and a future fourth track along GO’s Lakeshore East line.

“Birch Cliff is just starting to see the warts that you see elsewhere in the city,” Ashton said last week of the lakefront area between Birchmount Road and Victoria Park Avenue
“It’s quite clear there are some issues and hot spots along Kingston Road in this community
but it’s nowhere near the epidemic people are talking about.”

The Kingston low-rises have Streets to Homes clients in 12 of their 100 units but if they weren’t there
City housing officials say the program gives the client tenants intensive support for a year through social workers
who make certain those units meet city standards
But Ashton said the city hasn’t offered help to tenants of another 28 units — supported by rent supplements or other programs — that may have led to problems
along with police and city inspectors met last week with building management
replacing broken intercom systems and locks
“We are doing our level best to keep the building very nice,” Debb said this week
adding “a lot of people,” including some who had vandalized the buildings
Debb also said most problems were not caused by tenants but “the people coming from the outside.”
Residents say storefronts on Kingston or a laneway to the north were converted to residences illegally
Ashton said he will do a complete inventory of all retail properties on the Birch Cliff strip and take what action he can
he’s established a community task force of about 25 people to talk about safety issues
