Metrolinx says Danforth Avenue will be closed between Eastwood and Warden avenues from midnight on Wednesday until 11:59 p.m. on Mar. 27 for “essential railway bridge work.” The section of roadway will be fully closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Metrolinx is warning residents and commuters to plan for additional travel time. Construction will take place 24 hours a day while the roadway is closed. During the closure, “crews will install metal girders across the roadway between the bridge piers using a mobile crane.” The girders are meant to support a wider bridge and a future fourth track along GO’s Lakeshore East line. At a shade over $3M this property includes a driveway with enough space at the rear to execute a three point turn (I dunno apparently that's important) and an entire forest's worth of exposed wood inside $2,800,000 in The AnnexThe realtor calls this an "An Irresistible Jewel In Heart Of The City," and it certainly is pretty nice The taxes on this place might equal the rent on a $1,100-a-month apartment but at least the lucky millionaire buyer can console themselves with oak herringbone floors You think the nanny room might be a bit of a waste $2,645,000 in the AnnexAt $355,000 under the budget promised by the title of this post 22 Cottingham is included for the budget conscious millionaire This custom build is lined with walnut plank floors and quartz countertops even if it looks a bit like a squat office building from the street There's a strange abundance of flat screen TVs in this home (even the baby's room has one suspended from the ceiling,) but I will admit that the rooftop deck does look cool $2,995,000 in RosedaleThis Rosedale house has designer chops. Architect Francesco Scolozzi built this place in 1988 around what he calls a central Roman-inspired "urban court." Follow him on Twitter at @chrisbateman Scenes from the Birtchcliff nieghbourhood in Scarborough along Kingston Road Many of the storefronts their windows covered by paper and appear closed is alarmed over an “invasion” of street prostitution and crack cocaine residents told their local city councillor and police this month Community meetings drew at least 200 people to St Nicholas Anglican Church on May 13 and June 10 to complain about the local spread of crack They put pressure at the latest gathering on Ward 36 (Scarborough Southwest) Councillor Brian Ashton who says he is working with Toronto Police city staff and management of some Kingston Road apartments to lessen Birch Cliff’s problems But Ashton and veteran police in the district say drugs and prostitution are a deeply-set pattern along Kingston Road and that residents are wrong to blame the city’s Streets to Homes program for a recent spike in crime “Birch Cliff is just starting to see the warts that you see elsewhere in the city,” Ashton said last week of the lakefront area between Birchmount Road and Victoria Park Avenue “It’s quite clear there are some issues and hot spots along Kingston Road in this community but it’s nowhere near the epidemic people are talking about.” People seized on social housing placements at the church meetings particularly at a group of seven low-rise apartment buildings near Warden Avenue While acknowledging some drug dealing has long been present in Birch Cliff an organizer of the meetings suggested crime got worse after clients of Streets to Homes a city program to house and integrate the homeless “They saturated the place with them,” argued the man who said he doesn’t want his name published because he lives and works in the area and fears reprisals from dealers break-ins multiplied and prostitutes started coming into businesses along Birch Cliff’s commercial strip to ask for change adding he doesn’t blame the city clients but “the people they brought with them.” The local Neighbourhood Watch also noticed a rise in thefts and circulated a petition signed by 400 people and presented to Ashton this month “We are angered that our community is becoming a place we no longer recognize,” it said while admitting to some increases in crime said the meetings spread misinformation on what are really just symptoms of a city-wide problem with crack “There’s a lot of fiction and not fact.” The Kingston low-rises have Streets to Homes clients in 12 of their 100 units but if they weren’t there City housing officials say the program gives the client tenants intensive support for a year through social workers who make certain those units meet city standards But Ashton said the city hasn’t offered help to tenants of another 28 units — supported by rent supplements or other programs — that may have led to problems along with police and city inspectors met last week with building management replacing broken intercom systems and locks “We are doing our level best to keep the building very nice,” Debb said this week adding “a lot of people,” including some who had vandalized the buildings Debb also said most problems were not caused by tenants but “the people coming from the outside.” Residents say storefronts on Kingston or a laneway to the north were converted to residences illegally Ashton said he will do a complete inventory of all retail properties on the Birch Cliff strip and take what action he can he’s established a community task force of about 25 people to talk about safety issues And though Ashton said it’s not necessary another community meeting at the church is scheduled for Tuesday “John” sweeps and stepped-up police patrols in the area have made a difference residents say they can see But getting drug-addicted women out of prostitution is more difficult than people think Wade Alphonso of the 41 Division Community Response Unit Often “we lose them for a month” as they get pushed to the next division adding police and agencies are setting up an outreach program to give prostitutes a chance to restart their lives out of the area The police are closely watching a local home residents have identified as a crack house “We have arrested many people out of that house.” Here’s how Scarborough’s housing market performed by neighbourhood in April 2024 Birchcliffe-Cliffside and Oakridge home prices averaged $1.08 million
